About the character designs and the movie posters

1. A girl asked whether the "horn" on Ran's head is a bone. Gosho laughed and said that it's not a bone, it's just the hair style. He also emphasized that Ran wouldn't be Ran if she didn't have the "horn" on her head. And Conan wouldn't be Conan if he didn't have the hair strands that gone straightened up at the back of his head.

2. About the origin of Shinichi's birthday (May 4), Gosho said that it's the day that Holmes and Prof. Moriarty died at Reichenbach Fall, which would make it look like Shinichi is the reincarnation of Holmes, however, Holmes never actually died...

3. Gosho said that when he designs the characters and draws the manga, the principle that he sticks to is: Boys must look handsome and girls must look cute (男の子はカツコよく、 女の子は可愛く). He always reminds himself to think and draw seriously.

4. Gosho draws the movie posters, but the texts on the side are not written by him.

About ShinRan

I (the poster) helped a friend ask this: Shinichi has already confessed to Ran back in London. What will their development in the future be, will they have a kissing scene like Takagi and Sato ?

Gosho answered that there'll definitely be a development, he wasn't sure how much he should spoil, but he said that we can expect the "kiss" thing, there will be that part.

About Kaitou Kid and Magic Kaito

1. Basically Gosho said that there is a reason behind Kid and Shinichi's resemblance and he purposely made it like that. That reason may be brought up in the future if he has the chance to draw, but maybe not if he's too busy.

2. A fan asked that: In "Magic Kaito" where Kaitou Kid is the main character, the first Kid (Toichi) was killed by a mysterious organization. Kaitou Kid both find the "Pandora" and hunt the enemies who killed his father at the same time. But in the "Mystery Train" arc, Kid showed up to help Conan. Will Kaitou Kid's story be relevant to the Black Organization because of this ?

Gosho said because that was a special case, so [he] let Kid appeared and have an encounter with the organization. However, Kid has his own story plot, which may be developed in "Magic Kaito", so Kaitou Kid will probably not have any intersection with the BO in the future.

He also said that he really wants to draw MK, at least one volume per year, but since he's too busy with Conan's releases, especially with the "Mystery Train" thing, he never had the time.

About the Black Organization

1. Gosho said that after Amuro there'll also be a new member/new members. Even though he didn't say clearly, but it seems that there won't be only one.

2. A fan asked: All BO members have alcoholic code-names. Does Gosho like alcohols ? Will his most favorite alcohol be The Boss' code-name ?

Gosho said he doesn't really drink, he just picked up the alcoholic names that he thinks are cool. The cool code-names are almost used up now, maybe there's only Whiskey or something... left. [Black Demon: I find this strange because Rye and Bourbon are already whiskeys.]

The Boss doesn't need to have a code-name because (he/she) is the "boss", of course the member's code-names are all come up by The Boss.

3. A fan asked whether Gosho has already come up with the name and character design/setting for The Boss ?

Gosho gave out an ambiguous statement: The Boss has already been come up with/has already appeared; the name also has already been come up with/has already appeared. But which option is the correct understanding, everyone has their own opinion.

However, Gosho stated that it's not Agasha Hiroshi, to which the audiences clap enthusiastically.

4. A girl asked about the "Sherry naked" thing, that why does Gin always think about her without clothes, what exactly is their relationship ?

Gosho answered that they indeed had a relationship, but it wouldn't be interesting if (he) revealed it there, so please wait for it. The poster also mentioned that Gosho had a trolling (or something like that) laugh/smile at the time.

5. From what I (BD) understand here is that a fan asked why Gosho didn't name Amuro directly after Tohru Furuya but had to use a character that has the same pronunciation (透 vs. 徹). Gosho said that it would be too obvious if he did that. [Except it's still very obvious :P ]

The poster asked about the ending and Gosho's answer is basically the same as in the past: It may not end just yet, but he also said that doesn't mean (Conan) doesn't have any ending. [So what I understand here is that there may or may not be a ending, and Gosho is also not certain about when will he write the end either.]

When/how/did the boss of the Black Organization appear? Sources 1,6,7, report Gosho said the boss has appeared in some form a "long time ago", but Gosho may have implied the boss could have appeared "recently". Contrast with Source 5 who does not report the part of the answer that the boss has appeared recently. Q: Has the boss appeared? A: He has. Long ago, recently, I wonder when?/I wonder if he appeared long ago or recently (laughs)) The different sources extracted different meanings from this statement. One of the sources (which one?) thought Gosho was taunting, so the phrase may be misunderstood. Source 5 notes Gosho was being vague about what form the boss appeared in. Q10. In the manga he's written as "Haneda" but in the anime is name's ruby reads "Hada" in the anime. What does that mean?

A. That's a mistake from their part. I forgot to tell them. Kouji comes from Tanigawa Kouji (a real-world shogi player).

A. Amuro is good. Akai learnt from Yukiko and has gotten better but his stew could be improved. I guess Amuro's the one who's more skilled at cooking.

A. Red Baron?

A. No, that's not it. The inspiration is Edogawa Ranpo's "Golden Mask".

A. Various women buy those clothes. I used "JJ" or "anan" as reference before.

Q28. Who told you about the Chuubu earthquake?

A. I was sleeping and one of my assistants woke me up. I was surprised that the TV said "Beika City" when reporting the earthquake.

A. He won't. But maybe he'll show up in the manga. Since he's in the same high-school as Momiji.

A. In Touichi's case I wanted Mr.Ikeda to be his VA. Akai is Ikeda. Shinichi comes from Hoshi Shinichi. Furuya Rei's "Rei" is unrelated. Heiji is also unrelated.

Q33. Is there a love episode for Haibara?

A. She likes that soccer player. She's attracted to him.

Q34. In the "Visual Book" it says that Shinichi... was born in the US? And that he lives in the US?

A. Tha'ts wrong. He's born in Japan.

Q35. There are a lot of "strong types" amongst the female characters, do you like that type of character?

A. I like "tsunderes".

A: Aa, you noticed! Sorry. And if you want more details, I wanted Toichi to be voiced by Ikeda Shuichi, so he was named Toichi, who gave him the voice. Akai Shuichi goes without saying. Shinichi is a little different. He was named after Hoshi Shinichi-san.

Due to a typo it ended up being "omae (you)" instead, and so I fixed ASAP

Questioner: I’m a fan of aiko, and I go to her live shows. I also watched the behind-the-scenes video from the NHK’s Kōhaku. Did seeing Aiko-san ever inspire you to come up with a murder case?

Q. Could you share a New Year’s Day memory from when you were little?

Aoyama: You know, it doesn’t really ring anymore these days—since everything’s become smartphones. But if there’s an opportunity, I’d like to let you hear it again.

Q: In Detective Conan Volume 33, when Shinichi received Valentine’s chocolate from Ran, someone asked whether Conan said anything in return, and the response was, “I can’t say something like that when I can’t even see her.” I really loved that line. Later on, Shinichi ends up confessing in London… So I was wondering—within Shinichi, or within Conan, is there any inner conflict about having said something like that back then, even though he couldn’t see her?

Aoyama: That part… I’d forgotten about it (laughs).

(Audience laughter)

Aoyama: Huh? That was a long time ago, wasn’t it?

Questioner: Yes—Volume 33 (laughs).

Aoyama: I’ll have to reread it… (laughs). I’ll keep it in mind.

Q: I’m actually from Hokuei Town, and I was wondering… when will Tottori Prefecture finally get blown up in a movie?

Aoyama: No, no, no, no! (laughs)

(Audience laughter)

Aoyama: I see—Tottori, huh. You know, it’s kind of hard to blow up (laughs). And then there’s the Tottori dialect—if I write it properly, it just becomes incomprehensible (laughs). So it’s a bit tricky to work with… but, well… if I can make it work (laughs). By the way, is there any particular area you’d want me to use?

Questioner: Uh… that’s a tough one (laughs).

Aoyama: See? It is tough, isn’t it? (laughs).

Q: From Hagi’s point of view, it seems like his best friend is really into his older sister. How do you think Hagi felt watching that, or what kind of feelings did he have?

Aoyama: You know, I even wrote once in Animal Crossing something like, “Tonight’s Christmas Eve, Jinpei-chan.” I wrote that with the meaning of, “It’s Christmas Eve tonight, so do your best, Jinpei.” So… I’m cheering him on.

Q: Taka'aki-san was really wonderful in last year’s movie. Will his bangs be blowing in the wind in the manga again in the future?

(Audience laughter)

Aoyama: Ahh—ha ha ha (laughs). Blowing in the wind? (laughs) Well, if he appears again, then I’ll probably let them blow (laughs).

Q: Did you like detective manga ever since you were a child, Aoyama-sensei?

Aoyama: Yes, I did. Is that the end? (laughs) Well, rather than manga, I really liked Sherlock Holmes.

Q: I was thinking that Inspector Yokomizo Jūgo might be active in this year’s movie, but Inspector Yokomizo Sango—who’s been appearing for quite a long time now…

Aoyama: Ah—yes, yes, yes (laughs).

Questioner: I was wondering whether, in various ways—not just this year, but in general—there might be opportunities for him to be more active in the future…

Aoyama: Well then… I’ll think about it (laughs). Sango, huh? (laughs).

Q: In a recent movie (Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram), it was revealed that Kid and Shinichi are blood-related. Since when had you been thinking about that setting, Aoyama-sensei?

Aoyama: Ah—quite a long time ago. I had already decided that Toichi and Yusaku would be brothers, so… quite a while—really, a long time ago (laughs). I might have even told my assistants before, like, “Actually, this is how it is…” (laughs).

Questioner: Sorry—personally, that ending really surprised me…

Aoyama: Ah, I see. Yes, that’s understandable. I’d been thinking about it for quite some time, but I never really found the right moment to say it. Then this movie felt like the perfect opportunity, so I revealed it there. But the idea itself goes back quite a long way.

Q: Regarding Furuya-san’s hair color and skin tone—there was a manga that used to run in Hana to Yume where a character born to an Indian mother and a Japanese father had hair and skin like Furuya-san’s. So that made me wonder… is Furuya-san actually mixed-heritage?

Aoyama: Ah—well, he is mixed, but whether he’s Indian or not… I don’t know (laughs). Let’s keep that part a secret (laughs).

Q: Could you tell us Heiji-kun’s and Kazuha-chan’s birthdays?

Aoyama: Well—(laughs) I don’t know yet (laughs). I haven’t decided them. I’ll probably choose suitable dates when that kind of topic comes up in the story (laughs).

MC: You get questions about birthdays and blood types every year, don’t you?

Aoyama: As for Kazuha-chan, maybe her name comes from a model of sorts… My assistant’s wife is named Kazuha, so I might take it from her (laughs).

Q: You mentioned earlier that you usually don’t reveal characters’ birthdays, but recently Aoko-chan’s birthday was decided. Why was that?

Aoyama: Just… somehow (laughs). I felt like, “Maybe I’ll decide it now,” and so I did (laughs). Kaito’s birthday is already set, after all. Oh—and Shinichi’s too, come to think of it (laughs).

MC: So it was decided on a whim—just a sudden inspiration?

Aoyama: I thought, “Yeah, that works!” and decided it (laughs).

Q: Detective Conan has many elements that are closely connected to alcohol. Among the characters, who do you think is the strongest drinker, and who is the weakest?

Aoyama: Eh—? The strongest drinker? And the weakest? Hmm… who would that be? (laughs) Umm… hey—who do you think?

Questioner: Eh?! Well… Akai-san seems like he’d be incredibly strong…

Aoyama: Ah—that’s a good one! Then let’s go with Akai (laughs).

Aoyama: As for the weakest… who seems weak?

Questioner: Kogoro (Ojisan) drinks a lot, but he’s actually really weak, right?

Aoyama: Ah—yes, that’s true (laughs). Then let’s say Kogoro Ojisan (laughs).

Questioner: Is that okay? (laughs)

Aoyama: It’s fine (laughs).

Q: My kids love drawing and often copy manga illustrations. At about what age did you start drawing, and how did you get so good at it?

Aoyama: Well, I really liked Nyārome by Fujio Akatsuka-sensei from when I was very young—back in kindergarten—and I kept drawing it all the time. So I’ve been drawing since kindergarten.

Questioner: In that case, if my kids keep drawing, maybe they can become as good as you someday…

Aoyama: They might. If they keep drawing, they just might. Please encourage them and keep at it.

Q: I really love Vermouth’s line, “A secret makes a woman woman.” Was this line born from Vermouth’s own way of thinking, or was it influenced by someone else?

Aoyama: It’s Vermouth. It’s something Vermouth herself came up with and said.

Questioner: Thank you very much.

Aoyama: And then there’s the story that Jodie-sensei remembered it and ended up using it.

Questioner: I see. Thank you very much.

Aoyama: Make it your motto (laughs).

Questioner: Thank you—I will (laughs).

Q: Among the stories in which Ai Haibara appears, is there one that you personally like the most or that left a strong impression on you?

Aoyama: Well, the one where she gets shot by Gin… (laughs). That story left a strong impression on me personally. I think that one was pretty good. (Detective Conan Volume 24)

Q: In Animal Crossing, Aoko-chan appears in Clover-kun’s house and even on his suit, but does Kaito-kun ever make merchandise, or carry Aoko-chan’s photo when he’s acting as Kid?

Aoyama: That’s a bit… (laughs). That’s something exclusive to Animal Crossing only (laughs).

Q: Do you have any plans to draw a story set in Okinawa in the future?

Aoyama: If the opportunity comes up, I’ll think about it (laughs). I watch Kenmin SHOW quite a lot, so the dialect and the way people speak are interesting, aren’t they?

Q: About thirteen years ago, there was a movie set in the Maritime Self-Defense Force (Detective Conan: Private Eye in the Distant Sea). I actually served in the Air Self-Defense Force.

Aoyama: Oh! That’s amazing!

Questioner: So I was wondering if you might be able to create a story involving the Air Self-Defense Force as well… (laughs)

Aoyama: Oh! (laughs) If the opportunity comes up, I’d really like to do that. There was that line, “Clean it up before the Air Self-Defense Force arrives,” but the ASDF itself hasn’t actually appeared yet. So if there’s a chance next time, definitely (laughs).

Q: This is a question about the Mystery Train arc. The way Amuro said to Shiho—well, actually to Kaitō Kid—“Bourbon… that’s my codename…,” and the way Ai said to Conan, “Sherry… that’s my codename…,” are phrased the same. Was that an intentional parallel?

Aoyama: No, that was a coincidence (laughs). Hearing it now, I’m like, “Oh, I guess that was the case” (laughs). Sorry about that.

Questioner: Even if it was a coincidence, I’m really happy they match like that. Thank you very much.

Q: My favorites are Conan-kun, Matsuda-san, and Chihaya-san, so I’m really looking forward to this year’s movie… (crying)

Aoyama: Oh—then you’ve got a lot to look forward to.

Questioner: Will these three continue to be active in the future as well?

Aoyama: Recently… you know, Matsuda—did you see it? Sunday?

Questioner: I did (crying).

Aoyama: That’s good.

Questioner: I cried.

Aoyama: That’s not a question (laughs).

MC: So the question is whether they’ll continue to be active in the future.

Aoyama: Ah—(laughs) well, I’ll do my best (laughs).

Q: This is about that infamous case where Rum, Camel, and Wakasa-sensei all crossed paths. There were two murder cases in quick succession, a car crashed into the apartment building, and there was that very unlucky landlord who made you think, “Maybe they should go get an exorcism.” If you were in the landlord’s position, would you quit being a landlord? Or would you keep going, thinking something else might happen again?

Aoyama: I’d use it as a selling point and recruit tenants that way (laughs).

Aoyama: It was fun.

Q: I believe Scotch was also working undercover, so I’d really like to know his alias…

Aoyama: Ah—yes, yes, yes. Right. Okay, I’ll think of something good. Did I ever say his alias before. An alias, huh… what should it be? (laughs)

Q: In previous movies, Vermouth was collecting items from the Fusae Brand, so I was wondering—do those two have any kind of relationship?

Aoyama: Umm—you mean whether Fusae Campbell and Vermouth are connected?

Questioner: Yes.

Aoyama: They’re not related (laughs). She just wanted them because the designs were nice—that’s all.

Questioner: I see—thank you very much.

MC: Everyone really reads deeply into things, don’t they?

Q: If there are any Magic Kaito episodes you’ve been wanting to draw, or ideas you’ve been saving up, could you tell us?

Aoyama: Magic Kaito? Well, of course—a dance party (laughs).

Questioner: Eh?! I want to see that!

Aoyama: You want to see it?

Questioner: I do!

Aoyama: Well… if the editorial department allows it, I’ll draw it (laughs). I don’t know when that’ll be, though (laughs).

Questioner: My daughter really loves Taka'aki, and because of her influence, I (as her father) ended up liking him too.

Aoyama: Ohhh~

Questioner: She didn’t get selected this time, so only I was able to come… (laughs)

Q: There’s a novel (Manga) written by a classmate called “2-A Class, Komei-kun!” (from Detective Conan Volumes 65–66). Do you have any plans to turn that into a manga someday?

Aoyama: Eh—? (laughs) I hadn’t really thought about that (laughs). But if it’s something that worries you that much…

Questioner: Apparently, that part really bothers her.

Aoyama: Eh—seriously? (laughs) Well, I don’t really know… whether I’ll do it or not… well… (laughs). Please give my regards to your daughter (laughs).

Q: At the 2019 Let’s Talk DAY event, you mentioned that you were planning to draw the story of how Hagi and Jinpei first met as children—and ever since then, I’ve been waiting—this whole time!

Questioner: How much longer do we need to wait?

Aoyama: Well, well—please wait a little longer (laughs). It only just came up recently, after all (laughs).

Questioner: Alright, I’ll wait. Thank you very much!

Aoyama: I see, their childhood, huh… yes, yes, yes (laughs).

Q: Around what age did Furuya-san start living on his own for the first time?

Aoyama: Huh? Living alone?

Questioner: Yes.

Aoyama: Hmm… well… he didn’t really have much parental supervision at all, did he?

Questioner: Right.

Aoyama: I think it was probably pretty early—maybe right after graduating high school… Or possibly even during high school? I’m really thinking hard about it right now… (laughs). I imagine he was already living on his own as a high school student, and maybe inviting Hiro over and things like that.

Questioner: He just wouldn’t say much… And during the signing session, you draw your personal mark as part of your signature, right?

Aoyama: Ah, yes.

Q: Could you tell us the order in which you draw your personal mark?

Aoyama: The glasses.

Questioner: Starting with the glasses.

Aoyama: I start with the glasses… then draw the outline, then the eyebrows… after that, the line on top of the head, the little stem, and finally the mouth—and that’s it.

Aoyama: Is that really okay?! (laughs)

Q: I always read Sunday, and the recent flashback story about Chihaya-san and Matsuda-san was really wonderful. I was a bit curious—does Chihaya-san have some reason for stubbornly not responding to Matsuda-san’s feelings?

Aoyama: His attitude of “Of course she’ll become my girlfriend” was annoying (laughs).

Questioner: I see (laughs).

Aoyama: You know, Chihaya back in middle school… she kind of seems like she’d be easy to win over, right? (laughs) The fact that she looks like she might fall for him if he pushed just a little—that’s kind of what makes it good, I think (laughs).

Questioner: And Matsuda-san was thinking that way too?

Aoyama: Yeah—he was thinking that (laughs).

Q: On the cover of Detective Conan BLACK PLUS SDB (Super Digest Book), Conan is shown in a Takaaki-style version. Is there any particular reason for using that? And if that’s something you can’t answer, then could you tell us what kind of alcohol the three members of the Nagano Prefectural Police like?

Aoyama: Well, there’s really no special reason… To be honest, I’ve kind of forgotten what the Super Digest Book was like, so… that’s that. As for favorite alcohol? Hmm, favorite drinks… I guess they probably like Nagano’s local sake, don’t you think? Naturally.

Questioner: All three of them?

Aoyama: Yeah, I think so. But Takaaki alone—he kind of seems like he’d like wine or something, doesn’t he?

Q: In the final car-chase scene of the movie Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback, was the car that Takaaki was driving actually his own? Or was it something like a rental car? It was different from the original manga, so I wanted to ask about that.

Aoyama: Right, I see. Well, we thought that if it wasn’t a convertible, Ran wouldn’t be able to stand up and relay Takaaki’s instructions to Conan. So we made it an open-top car. Based on that, I think we chose the type of car accordingly.

Q: A friend of mine who couldn’t make it today really wanted me to ask this, so this is on their behalf. It’s about the birthdays that have been mentioned several times already…

Aoyama: Ah (laughs), yes, yes, yes (laughs).

Questioner: My friend wants to celebrate the Police Academy group on their birthdays rather than their dates of death…

Aoyama: Birthdays, huh… (laughs). The dates of death are pretty much set, you know.

Q: My hometown is Chizu Town in Tottori Prefecture—it’s a small town a bit off to the side. Is there any chance that someday a case set in Chizu Town might happen?

Aoyama: Chizu, huh? (laughs) I’ll keep it in the back of my mind.

Q: Inspector Yamato is extremely sharp-minded, but I feel he’s rather insensitive when it comes to romance. Is he aware of his own feelings toward Yui-san?

Aoyama: Ah… hmm, I wonder? Maybe he’s noticed. Hmm…? Well, I suppose so. How should I put it? (laughs) But he hasn’t noticed at all that Yui likes him. Definitely not (laughs).

MC: So that part is absolutely definite.

Aoyama: That part, he absolutely hasn’t noticed. Because he’s an idiot(laughs).

Q: In Detective Conan Volume 107, when the Police Academy group was interacting with Shinichi and Ran, they were playing baseball, right? Will you draw any baseball-related stories in the future?

Aoyama: A baseball story? (laughs) Well, sure—if I feel like it, I could draw one. If I come up with a good idea for it, I’d like to draw it.

Q: There have been many theatrical films so far, but I was wondering if there’s one movie you feel especially attached to—or perhaps your favorite movie—that you could tell us about.

Aoyama: The one I feel the strongest attachment to is the very first one (Detective Conan: The Time-Bombed Skyscraper). When we made that, I honestly thought, “If this doesn’t work, then this will probably be the end of the movies” (laughs). Because of that, I’m very emotionally attached to it.

Questioner: Thank you very much. I’m looking forward to what comes next as well.

Q: Lately, it seems like you’ve been appearing on television more often. Do you accept every offer that comes your way, or are there some that you turn down?

Aoyama: Ah, yes—there are (laughs). If I were to say which ones I declined, it would feel sorry for those programs, so I can’t say—but there have been various ones.

Q: Do you have any kind of goal for how much longer you’d like Detective Conan to continue?

Aoyama: Not really (laughs). Well… that’s a bit hard to say (laughs). That’s a difficult question. For now, please continue to enjoy it (laughs).

Q: I really love all the couples that appear in Detective Conan, but looking ahead, which do you think will become an official couple first—Kaito and Aoko, or Kansuke and Yui?

Aoyama: Ahahahaha (laughs). That’s a tough one (laughs). No, no—that really is difficult (laughs). Please look forward to it.

Q: I feel like we’ve hardly seen any stories about Heiji and Kazuha’s childhood so far—aside from that time they were handcuffed together. Are there any plans to depict how the two of them first met, or stories from when they were in kindergarten or elementary school?

Aoyama: Ah—if the opportunity comes up, sure. I’d like to draw that. They’re childhood friends, so there’s all kinds of things I could depict.

Q: I really love Rei Furuya, so could you tell us if he has a morning routine?

Aoyama: A routine?! (laughs) What would it be, I wonder? In Zero’s Tea Time (Detective Conan: Zero no Tea Time), he was spending time with Haro, after all. I’ll leave that up to your imagination (laughs). You see, from Conan’s perspective, Furuya’s private life is still a mystery. So—use your imagination… (laughs).

Q: Are there any plans to create a story that focuses on Heiji’s and Kazuha’s fathers?

Aoyama: Their fathers, huh… Well, yes—if the opportunity comes up, I’d like to draw something like that (laughs). We’d end up having more and more of those, wouldn’t we? (laughs) Ah—but wait, Abeno Harukas… no, that’s not it. Naniwa Harukas—that’s when Kazuha’s father appeared, right?

Questioner: Yes, I’d like to see a bit more of that.

Aoyama: Alright. Got it. I’ll think about it (laughs).

Q: In Detective Conan Volume 107, the childhood of the Nagano Prefectural Police was depicted. What did Yui-san call Takaaki back then?

Aoyama: Probably “Kō-kun.”

Questioner: “Kō-kun.”

Aoyama: Yes—Kan-chan and Kō-kun, I think.

Questioner: I wondered if, under Kan-chan’s influence, she might have called him “Kōmei-kun” or something like that…

Aoyama: No—definitely “Kō-kun.”

Q: The newly drawn illustration of Ran and Conan for the Sunday Culture Festival left a strong impression on me. I work as a childcare worker, so seeing Ran as a childcare worker made me especially happy. Could you tell us what inspired that idea, or how it was decided?

Aoyama: Sorry, but, um… that idea actually came from the editorial staff (laughs). They suggested making her a childcare worker (laughs). Funamoto Riaru-san is actually quite like that in real life (laughs).

Questioner: I see—thank you very much.

MC: That was the case last year too, wasn’t it? It’s not like the sensei decides everything entirely on his own.

Aoyama: Right—there are lots of ideas. They said, “How about making her a childcare worker?” and I was like, “That sounds good!” (laughs).

Questioner: Yes—rather than just one-sided lines like “so-and-so said this,” I want to see an actual conversation between the two of them.

Aoyama: Um… you mean memories from the past, right?

Questioner: Yes!

Q. Why is Ran's hair pointy?

Aoyama: Ah, is that so? But that's how it is. I thought of it a long time ago... I figured I'd never have the opportunity to bring it up, so I decided to reveal it in the movie since it was perfect timing. But the actual concept was from a long time ago.

Q. I have a question related to the colour of Furuya-san's hair and skin. In a manga that used to serialize in Hana to Yume, there was a character with an Indian mother and Japanese father that had the same colouring as Furuya-san. So I was wondering if Furuya-san is half-Japanese after all...?

Aoyama: Ah, well, he's half-Japanese, but whether he's half-Indian... I don't know (haha) That's a secret (haha)

Q. As you mentioned earlier, you don't often reveal character birthdays, but why did you decide on Aoko-chan's recently?

Q. In Animal Crossing, Aoko-chan often shows up in like Clover-kun's house and wears a suit. Does Kaito-kun also make merch, and bring photos to Aoko-chan as Kid?

Q. In a previous movie, Vermouth was collecting Fusae branch jewelry. Are they connected in any way?

Aoyama: Do you mean Fusae Campbell and Vermouth?

Aoyama: I mean it wasn't... I've kind of forgotten what the super digest books were... putting that aside... what kind of alcohol they like? The alcohol they like, huh. They probably like alcohol from Nagano.

Aoyama: Yes. But Koumei alone seems like he'd like wine.

Q. I believe Scotch was an undercover operative as well, but I'd love to know his alias...

Q. In Detective Conan Movie 28: The One-eyed Flashback, was Takaaki-san driving his own car in the final car chase scene? Or was it a rental or something? Since it was different from the manga... I wanted to ask about that.

Aoyama: I see, that. They said it needed to be a convertible so Ran could stand up and give Conan Koumei's orders through her, so that's what it became. I think they then decided on a car brand based on that.

Q. As you've been writing Conan all this while, have you ever wanted to write something else instead?

Aoyama: I do a lot. And every time I do... I suppose I want to continue YAIBA? But every time that happens, I end up writing the story I want to write in Conan instead, and that satisfies me (haha)

Q. The movies and manga have been set in a large variety of places, but are there any prefectures you'd like to feature in the future?

Aoyama: Huh? What would you like me to feature?

Questioner: I came from Toyama, so.

Q. I'd like to know how the Wild Police Squad spends their days off.

Aoyama: Huh, I wonder? I think... they probably watch movies and such... (haha)

Q. There's been many Detective Conan movies, but I'd like to know the movie you have the most emotional attachment to... the one you like the most, if any.

Aoyama: The movie I have the most emotional attachment to would be the very first one [Detective Conan Movie 1: The Time-Bombed Skyscraper]. When I worked on that one, I thought that this would be my last movie, after all (haha) So I have a lot of emotional attachment to it.
