Biography
Yuzuru Tachikawa was born in 1981 in Iruma District, near the major cities of Saitama and Kawagoe[1]. He later studied at the Nihon University College of Art (日本大学芸術学部), before joining animation studio Madhouse (マッドハウス)[2].
He debuted in 2007 by animating the final episode of Kiba (牙-KIBA-); whereupon he became a freelancer[3]. In 2012, Tachikawa was the director of OVA Arata-naru Sekai (アラタなるセカイ)[4]. The following year, he directed movie Death Billiards (アラタなるセカイ) for Madhouse, which ended up becoming a series; later on, he directed Death Parade (デス・パレード), which was his first attempt at TV animation direction[5][6].
Since 2016, he is the director of anime series Mob Psycho 100 (モブサイコ100), which has received many nominations at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards: the 1st season won the "Best Fight Scene and Best Action"[7]; the 2nd season won the "Best Animation and Best Opening Sequence"[8]. In addition, he was also nominated "Best Director" for anime Deca-Dence (デカダンス)[9][10].
When attending Otakon in 2013, he was approached by Detective Conan chief producer Michihiko Suwa, who asked if he would like to work on Magic Kaito 1412. Tachikawa declined as he was busy with other projects. Nevertheless, Suwa then introduced Tachikawa to Detective Conan production committee.[11]
In 2017, he was announced as director for Movie 22: Zero the Enforcer, and he was later announced on November 30, 2022 to direct another Detective Conan movie titled Movie 26: Black Iron Submarine.
