Case 1: The Famous Movie Director Murder Case
Cast
Situation
Shinichi, Ran and Sonoko are going to ask the famous director Akihiro Nagata to help them with their school play. Director Nagata appears to be a very strict person. While they are filming, Nagata asked Shinichi to act in a scene with Saori Kisaragi. During the scene, Saori almost kisses Shinichi, causing Ran to get angry and shove Saori out of the way.
Suddenly, Nagata feels pain, and Mamoru Kashiwagi gives him a towel. Kana Ishihara, the assistant of Chisato, Nagata's wife, is asked to make tea as Nagata asks the group to take a break. Nagata takes everyone to a sitting room and tells the group to pick out their own teacups for tea. Before Nagata can drink his tea, Chisato uses his spoon to add a sugar cube from her purse into her tea. As Nagata drinks his second cup of tea, he collapses to the floor dead from being poisoned.

Kogoro suspects Kana who made the tea, Chisato who brought the sugar; and Kashiwagi who lent the victim a towel, but all of his deductions are wrong. Meanwhile, Shinichi remembers an article about an actor who committed suicide because of Nagata's criticism, with a picture of him and his girlfriend (the girlfriend's face is censored).
