Gif Addition

Hello, I've come up with a gif for the episode "The Desperate Revival - Third Choice" in this page and was wondering if gifs are allowed. I've tried uploading it but an error message comes up. Please let me know if it is prohibited.

I uploaded a gif just fine at prototype antidote. There might be a file size limit though. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 04:56, 31 July 2014 (CEST)
Honestly with all the cease and desist warnings floating around directed to DCTP during the past year I think we shouldn't have any animated gifs. We're risking enough as it is with all the pictures we do have.--Skyechan (talk) 06:45, 31 July 2014 (CEST)
Thanks, Chekhov MacGuffin... I tried it again, and like you said, there is a limit so had to cut some...So no more gifs?... got it... Should I restore the pictures that have been replaced?--Mike Croft (talk) 17:35, 31 July 2014 (CEST)
I'd advise replacing the gifs with still images, yes. --Skyechan (talk) 00:35, 1 August 2014 (CEST)
Ok, I'll get on to that in the next few days--Mike Croft (talk) 9:21, 1 August 2014 (CEST)
This gif copyvio concern is unfounded. Gifs are only a small portion of the work and are protected by fair use the same way still images are. Obviously, there would be a problem if you reconstructed an episode with gifs (or lots of still images), but that is unlikely. The main problem is more practical: gifs are kind of bulky, so too many on a page will consume a lot of memory. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 21:40, 3 August 2014 (CEST)
Sorry for the late reply... In that case, I'll keep the the gifs that are already on the page and just improve them... I guess the reason I resorted to the use of gifs was that I thought they might explain certain events better than an image...and yes, the memory problem is there, too, so images for now...--Mike Croft (talk) 21:47, 8 August 2014 (AEST)
