Junichi Suwabe (諏訪部 順一 Suwabe Jun'ichi?), born March 29th, 1972 in Tokyo, is a Japanese voice actor. He has won several Seiyu Awards, including two Best Actors in Supporting Roles Award.

In Shin Samurai-den Yaiba he is the voice of Musashi Miyamoto.

Biography

Junichi Suwabe got involved in media and the arts early on. During elementary and junior high, he worked as a school broadcaster. In high school and college, he joined a film club and originally dreamed of becoming a movie director. After college, he tried out different jobs before joining the Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Society (Haikyo). There, he performed on stage and trained as a voice actor at Haikyo Voice.

Starting in his twenties, Suwabe took on narration jobs for TV shows and commercials, and also worked as a radio DJ. His big break came when he voiced Keigo Atobe in The Prince of Tennis anime. One of the character songs he performed reached number 9 on Oricon’s weekly CD chart in April 2005, the first time a male character song had ever broken into the top 10.

Over the years, Suwabe built a strong reputation as both a singer and voice actor. He won several awards. In 2012, he won the Singing Award at the 6th Seiyu Awards as part of the group ST☆RISH. He got the Supporting Actor Award at the 7th Seiyu Awards in 2013 and again at the 12th Seiyu Awards in 2018. At the 13th Seiyu Awards, he was honored with the Personality Award. In 2017, he also received the Yahoo! Search Awards in the Voice Actor Category. More recently, he was given the Kei Tomiyama Memorial Award at the 17th Seiyu Awards in 2023.

  • He has a dog named Zero the Lord Destroyer.
  • As of June, 2005, the Lotus Elise is his favorite type of automobile.
  • While working on the X TV series from 2001 to 2002, Junichi sang a song as his character, Fûma Monô. The song, called Yakusoku (which means "Promise" in English), was also recorded by his co-star Kenichi Suzumura. Both versions were released as CD singles to promote the show's first episode, which came out on DVD before the rest of the series aired. Even though the song wasn’t part of the anime itself, it became a fan favorite and sold well.
  • Junichi performed a song and voiced his character, Sting Oakley, in the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny Suit CD Vol. 7 drama CD. The track, titled Eden of Necessity, was created specifically for the character, but it wasn’t featured in the anime itself.
