justwantanaccount Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 I hope this hasn't been thoroughly discussed already - Akai does a few strange things in the manga, and I wanted to ask what your takes are on why he did what he did. In Sato's Matchup case (File 329), Akai is seen leaving, apparently because 'it was the wrong person.' Akai was presumably checking up on Vermouth, since the FBI already knew that Vermouth was disguised as Araide at this point - my question is, why did Akai leave before Vermouth did? Why did Akai say that 'it was the wrong person', when clearly he knew back then that Vermouth was Araide? Also, at the end of the Bus Jack case (File 289), Akai says, 'February 23: due to unexpected circumstances tailing cannot be continued; the target did not appear, investigation will re-start later; that's all.' So Akai and Jodie were tailing Araide/Vermouth, right? But why did Akai say that 'the target did not appear'? Was the target someone else? Let me know what you think, because I can't make heads or tails out of this thing.

Let me know what you think, because I can't make heads or tails out of this thing. At Sato's matchup case he used the excuse that he was looking for someone in order to get into the restaurant and look for Vermouth/Araide. After verifying that she wasn't making a move on Sherry or Ran or anyone else he left before he was discovered. The target on the Bus Jack was Sherry. By "target", he was referring to Vermouth's target. It can't be Vermouth because he knew she was in disguise as Araide at the time, so all that's left is Vermouth's target.
justwantanaccount Posted June 10, 2011 Author Report Posted June 10, 2011 Ah, that was quick. I see, that makes sense. I forgot that the FBI (well, at least Akai) was interested in Sherry/Haibara, too.
kaRAN Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 well it was actually that he din't wanted to get discovered and his job was done to ensure what she was doing
Scar Akai Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 But wasn't Vermmy's target Ai? Then why did Akai say that she didn't appear? Or did he just not know about the "shiho=ai" thing?

He didn't know Shiho was Ai. The moment he found out was after Ai bailed Conan out from the locker after Black Footprint. He saw her with Conan and thought to himself "No way!" if I remember correctly.
Tsukiko Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 He didn't know Shiho was Ai. The moment he found out was after Ai bailed Conan out from the locker after Black Footprint. He saw her with Conan and thought to himself "No way!" if I remember correctly. In Finnish translation he thought "Hmm?" ... Unfair, so many differences...
justwantanaccount Posted June 23, 2011 Author Report Posted June 23, 2011 ^ *Checks raw* The original Japanese was まさかな・・・, which would be closer to "No way!" than to "Hmm . . ."
Scar Akai Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 Unfair... That's why!!! Read DCTP's translations!!!
Tsukiko Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 That's why!!! Read DCTP's translations!!! I am reading them! (but only the newest ones)
