@moho: i think its the other way around, hiraganas have several meanings depending on the way they're used, but kanji have only one meaning some japanese words sound the same but are written differently in kanji such as 雲/くも (kumo -> cloud) 蜘蛛/くも (kumo -> spider)

i think they use it based on their meanings, they use the kanjis as much as possible
