Akitaro Daichi (大地 丙太郎 Daichi Akitarō?), born 13 January 1957, is a technical director and film director. He is the director of the Detective Conan spin-off story The Culprit Hanzawa, whilst serving as storyboard in all episodes as well.

Biography

Akitaro Daichi was born in Gunma Prefecture[1], and graduated from Salesian Polytechnic (サレジオ工業高等専門学校) in 1976; then Tokyo Polytechnic University, Junior College Department (東京工芸大学短期大学部) in 1978. He wanted to become a stage photographer, but he joined the animation filming company Tokyo Animation Film (アニメフィルム) (established by Tatsumasa Shimizu) in the same year. After that, he got his first job to film the animation Future Boy Conan (未来少年コナン)[3]thereupon he continued to work as an anime photographer for about five years, despite the fact that there was also a period when he changed jobs and decided to film live-action videos (for karaoke) at certain video production company.

In 1991, for some reason, he quit his former job and started working at a game production company, but returned to his original company after six months[3]. After his return to the anime industry, he studied under fellow animator Tetsuo Yasumi (やすみ 哲夫); he then switched into directing.
