Starting 2012, the Detective Conan production team irregularly produces special educational animation, featuring content pertaining to space and astronomy, whereby these are aired in several technical museums in Japan, hence the name "Planetarium Special".
Additional concept
The airing time is a lot dependent on the science museum; in fact, these specials are mostly aired in Toyota Science Museum in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture; Subaru Planetarium in Tondabayashi, Osaka Prefecture; Hamagin Children's Space Science Museum in Yokohama; Children's World Children's Museum in Gunma Prefecture; Science Museum in Gifu City; Children's Science Museum in Wakayama; Youth Science Museum in Kobe; Youth Science Museum in Fukuoka Prefecture; Space Science Museum in Saga Prefecture.
The specials can be regarded as a planetarium version of the "Detective Conan Plus" series. The production company is D&D Pictures, a company that makes animations exclusively for planetariums.
