Raccoon Dog Profile

Manaka Iwami (石見 舞菜香 Iwami Manaka?), born April 30th, 1998, is a Japanese voice actress. She won the Best Supporting Voice Actor award at the 18th Seiyu Awards in 2024 and the Best New Actress award at the 13th Seiyu Awards in 2019.

In Shin Samurai-den Yaiba she is the voice of Sayaka Mine.

Biography

Manaka Iwami decided she wanted to become a voice actress after watching Ai Kayano’s performance in Anohana when she was in middle school. Since she wasn’t very good at expressing herself as a child, she believed she needed to start training earlier than most to have a real chance at becoming a pro. She convinced her father to let her go to voice acting school by saying she wouldn’t go to high school otherwise.

In 2016, she passed an audition and got the lead role of Maquia in the movie Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms. It was the first film directed by Mari Okada, who also wrote Anohana. Interestingly, Ai Kayano—her inspiration—also had a role in the same film, allowing Iwami to meet the person who motivated her to become a voice actress.

Although she was chosen for Maquia in 2016, the movie didn’t come out until 2018. Because of that, Iwami’s first on-screen appearance happened in 2017 in the TV anime Tsuki ga Kirei.
