Career
In 2013, Mrs.Vinci was formed in Tokyo by Daiki Tsuneta[2], but would be renamed to Srv.Vinci shortly after[2]. The band released their first song, titled "Abuku" (泡). In 2017, the band decided to rename itself to King Gnu[2][3]. The name was inspired by the animal of the same name, known for gathering in large herds in the spring. The band would later perform under that name at the 2017 Fuji Rock Festival and at the 2018 edition[4]. Their first album, "Tokyo Rendez-vous", was released on October 25, 2017[5].
The band released "Sympa" in 2019, their first song with a major label, after signing with Ariola Japan. Their next single, Hakujitsu, released only a month later, peaked at 2nd on the Japan Hot 100 chart in 2019-2020[6]. In 2020, their third album, "Ceremony", would receive platinum certification after making more than 1 million sales[7]. The band scheduled a nationwide tour for 2020, but it was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic[8]. Their first song to be used in an anime is "Boy", released in October 2021 for anime series Ranking of Kings[9]. Their first major tour "Closing Ceremony" took place in May and June 2023[10].
