Hallolo Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 Hello ! Kaitou Kid is often compared to Arsène Lupin, most likely for being a gentleman thief with a knack for disguise. What do you think of the comparison? Is it justified?
Kyuu Nye Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 It is backwards... It is supposed to be comparing Arsene Lupin to Kaitou Kid. Reason is that Aoyama Gosho based Kaitou Kid off of Maurice LeBlanc's Arsene Lupin. So it is certainly justified, but DC fans do it backwards because of first exposure. I read Arsene Lupin first, and Kid second. So I always compared Lupin to Kid. And to me, really... there is no comparison to the original. Maurice LeBlanc is a specialist in that kind of writing, while Gosho is not. A lot of what Kid does is not possible at times, while Lupin is far more realistic. And honestly, I've never been bored with a Lupin novel or story, while lately all Kid does is bore me.
MadelineLime Posted February 8, 2012 Report Posted February 8, 2012 Kyuu I think you have it backwards. Lupin was first, so you compare the similarities in Kaitou to Lupin. I know he's based on Lupin, at least as inspiration, and while I knew about Lupin first, I never compared them. Maybe because I see Kid doing it as a magician who is a thief, and Lupin is more of a high white collar thief? I've known magicians and done stuff with them, so I see it differently, I think. And on that note, I've talked a great deal and shown some clips to our old coordinator on how to do some of Kaitou Kid's antics, and so far the only thing we've found that couldn't be done is that his card gun wouldn't really be able to shoot rolled cards like it's supposed to. Even quick change can be done that fast, apparently. Granted we haven't discussed everything, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head that's flat impossible.
Kyuu Nye Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Creating a perfect mask out of no where. I'd say that is flat out impossible. I agree though a lot of what he does is possible given enough prep time and help. I would go through everything to cite what is and is not plausible, but I'd rather not. (I don't have much time ) I think, on the whole, that arsene lupin is more believable.
