Its prior owners, Jody Hopper's parents, died in a fire which the jewel survived. These two facts may have fueled its legend and made it an alluring target. Snake and some of his men tailed its current owner, Jody Hopper, during the day, and then posed as customers at dinner show performance of the Hopper Magician troupe at the Minato Hotel. The Organization's theft method was to have one member pose as Kaitou Kid (complete with functional hang glider) to draw away stationed police, while Snake took the jewel at gunpoint backstage. Snake opened fire when the real Kaito interfered with the robbery.
