Hiroyuki Okuno (奥野 浩行 Okuno Hiroyuki) is a Japanese technical director and animator. He takes part in the production of the Detective Conan anime, as well as the movies, formerly.
Biography
A veteran of the animation industry, Hiroyuki Okuno was born in Osaka Prefecture's southern region (former Izumi Province)[1]. Prior to 1981, he moved to Tokyo to become an animator and joined Nakamura Production[2]. Since at least 2013, he lives in Nerima, Tokyo[1]. Okuno first started as an in-between animator in 1981, credited in the 41st episode of Jarinko Chie, which aired in September[2]. In July 1983, he was credited for the first time as key animation, in anime series Armored Trooper VOTOMS[2]. His breakthrough as animation director came in 1991 when he worked on the OVA adaptation of Sukeban Deka[2]. Between 1990 and 1995, he was part of Studio Katan (スタジオかぁたん), where he worked with many now renown animators like Tadashi Hiramatsu, Nagisa Miyazaki and Kazuaki Mouri[2]. He eventually left Nakamura Production, but remained on good terms with the company, by notably bringing in retired animator Akira Nakamura (中村 旭良) from Nakamura Production to work on his OVA adaptation of adult manga Virgin Night, which Okuno directed in 2001[2]. He is close friends with fellow animator Hisashi Mori (né Nakayama) who was affiliated some time with Nakamura Production[2]. His drawing is similar to Mori's, with few shading and bold forms, although Okuno's style is more refined compared to Mori's[2]. Since 2025, he is affiliated with Studio Lings[2].
Okuno's first stint with Gosho Aoyama's works came in 1993, when he became key animation for the 5th episode of the anime adaptation of Aoyama's first major manga Yaiba. He was active for two more episodes. In Detective Conan, he was first active when he worked as key animation of the 5th movie Countdown to Heaven in 2001. He returned in early 2025, becoming episode director when the first part of The Yamahime of Yakushima was outsourced to Studio Lings, which he is a part of. He returned again in March 2026 as episode director for episode 1192, again outsourced to Lings.
