Situation

The Trick

Conan, Heiji, Ran, and Kazuha are at a magic show. When the magician enters a cube of water with chains, something goes wrong and Ran and Kazuha rush to the stage ready to break it open. The magician escapes revealing it was part of the trick. Ran and Kazuha are invited to come to a party with the magician. At the party, there are magicians there who were the fans of a famous magician. When there, a murder happens.

The Mansion

Conan and Heiji investigate and the magicians back stories are given more indept. Heiji tells Conan that he feels angry seeing Kazuha with another man for some reason with Conan calling Heiji child like afterwards.

The mystery is solved and Heiji shows that it involves how the house is built. They reveal the hallway has mirrors hidden on the door with identical rooms on the side and a white screen to cause an illusion. When modified in a certain way another hallway is created. Masakage had it built for his Christmas Tree surprise trick. The culprit is Dogo Hoshikawa. The motive was that when the victim described a magic trick she was planning to perform he identified it as a trick that his magic teacher Masakage had designed but chose not to perform because it was too risky. But since Masakage had given up the trick before the victim became his apperentice, Dogo realized that she must have stolen Masakage's notebook to steal his secrets. That theft resulted in Masakage's dissapearance, as he left ten years ago to search for the book and never came back. After hearing Himemiya's lack of remorse, he saw red and struck her.

Trivia

• The outside shot of the venue for the magic show shows Hoshikawa's name written wrong: 星川 instead of 星河.
• In the second part of the case, the ending was changed to Sekai Tomete.
