Goal

I am using this page to detail time passed in Magic Kaito to then compile into a timeline. This will include defining how much time seems to pass in each chapter/episode, how closely they occur to other chapters/episodes, and determining whether the events can be rearranged to make a more logical progression.

Overarching notes

  • At the beginning of the manga, we see that Kaito and Aoko belong to class 2-B; based on that, this is probably a second-year class.
  • We don’t actually know Kaito’s age. We do know that by chapter 34, he must be (at least on paper) 17 years old, as 16 is the minimum age to acquire a license for a motorcycle and he has had the license for over a year.
  • Kaitō KID went on hiatus 8 years ago

Chapter 1 — The Revived Phantom Thief

  • Duration: 3 days
    • Day 1: Evening. Could be anywhere between Sunday and Wednesday
      • A heist conducted by Kaitō KID (Jii) is depicted.
    • Day 2: Opens on a school day. Could be anywhere between Monday and Thursday
      • Kaito learns about KID and resolves that he’s going to catch KID himself.
      • The same day, he discovers Tōichi’s KID room, dons the suit, and goes to confront the current KID (Jii) during that evening’s heist.
      • He learns his father was Kaitō KID before and chooses to take up the mantle to try and figure out what really happened to Tōichi.
    • Day 3: Opens on a school day. Could be anywhere between Tuesday and Friday
  • More details:
    • Relevant dates:
    • Relevant season:
    • Other timing notes:
      • We do not know how many times Jii acted as KID before Kaito took over. It wouldn’t have been many for sure, but it could have been more than one.
      • For obvious reasons, this must be the first arc in the timeline.

Chapter 2 — The Police are Everywhere

  • Duration: 3 days
    • Day 1: Partial day. Daytime. Could be anywhere between Sunday and Wednesday
      • The foreign princess and Doron are introduced. Doron issues KID a challenge.
    • Day 2: Opens on a school day. Could be anywhere between Monday and Thursday
      • Kaito interacts with Ginzō after school and decides to accept the challenge after learning that Ginzō is worried about looking bad for not being able to catch KID.
      • The heist happens this same day.
    • Day 3: Partial day. Opens on a school day. Could be anywhere between Tuesday and Friday
  • More details
    • Relevant dates: We see a newspaper published in August featuring Doron’s challenge, so this chapter takes place in August (though this need not be set in stone for timelining purposes)
    • Relevant season:
    • Other timing notes:
      • There have likely been heists which took place between this and the first chapter.
      • Takes place before Blue Birthday.
      • This arc stands on its own and can be moved around

Chapter 3 — The Clockwork Heart

  • Duration: 4 days
    • Day 1: Not pictured. Kaito is kidnapped. Could take place anytime between Sunday and Tuesday
    • Day 2: Robot-Kaito escapes, has a heist, kills his creator — this is a school day. Could take place anytime between Monday and Wednesday
    • Day 3: Robot goes to school as Kaito (and Aoko comments that he hadn’t been at school yesterday). This is the day Kaito escapes and interferes with Robot-Kaito’s (second) heist. Could take place anytime between Tuesday and Thursday
    • Day 4: Partial day. Another school day. Could take place anytime between Wednesday and Friday
  • More details
    • Relevant dates:
    • Relevant season:
    • Other timing notes:
      • If included, this arc stands on its own so it can be moved around.
      • Takes place before Blue Birthday.
