Biography

Haruo Ogawara began to participate in the production of the Detective Conan anime since the beginning, starting with the fourth episode Episode 4: The Coded Map of the City Case, after that, he served as an animation director regularly.

A frame of Conan by Ogawara.

He is somewhat well-known among the Detective Conan fandom owing to the radically different artstyle compared to the rest of the staffs. Though it appears to be much closer to Gosho Aoyama's early artstyle for the Detective Conan manga, and in line with Aoyama's early drafts he made for the anime production. In the beginning he performed quite decently, but afterwards, some frames collapsed, and he received some criticism. Incidentally, he collaborated with Hirohito Ochi quite well in the Episode 50: Library Murder Case, and created a horror atmosphere for that episode.

During the first-half of 1997, after doing the animation work of Episode 53: The Mystery Weapon Murder Case, he quit the anime production. However, he returned to the anime production team in 2009 and served as animation director for Episode 544: The Hand That Plays in Dissonance; he ceased being involved with the series thereafter. In addition, all of the episodes where Ogawara was the animation director, Hirohito Ochi was in charge of the episode direction as well (except for episode 53).
