Kogoro & Eri relationship

If my perception is correct, it seems that every time Kogoro & Eri take a step toward reconciliation, they take two steps back shortly afterwards. The most recent anime episode seems to reinforce this perception. It would seem to me that the producers are deliberately hindering any sort of progress toward the reconciliation of these two. Does anyone have any ideas what the producers may have in mind for these two?

Producers: Dear Aoyama, please make some more K x Eri stories so that there will be more files which means that we will receive more $$$.

Aoyama: I will make another case at the ending of the story which will make most pairs pair up together. I want there to be a happy ending.

Me: Save the Mori x Eri for later. Do the Conan x Ai now and make it permanent and don't ever change it ok Aoyama Sensei? pleasee... I'm begging you. Thanks
