Can I tag or mention other people in comments or status updates? If yes, how?

There's no direct notification system for comments on statuses. The original poster and everyone who posted on the status will get notified, but you can't @ specific people unfortunately. Quoting someone's forum post will directly notify them though if they have the notification for that turned on.
