Only if you assume there isn't a character who is to the Rum arc what Tomoaki Ariade was to the Vermouth arc—as in, the character who flew under the radar and only when some went back and looked over the arc, later, they'd go, "oh... that's why it was them."

Out of curiosity, what was the biggest hint that Araide was suspicious? When he tried to defend Conan in the bus hijack(which is something Vermouth would for sure)?

About Rumi, is there any way at all that she is affiliated with the MI6, or is it too early? I think there were some hints that MI6 may appear some day.

Also about the three characters shown in 1005, Rumi represents the "feminine RUM," Kuroda represents the "old RUM," so Kansuke's friend represents the "manly RUM" then? He doesn't exactly strike me as very "manly" in appearance. Also in some of the moments when RUM's three silhouettes were shown, the manly RUM was muscular and big, by no means like this guy.

Personally I think it's none of these three, but if I really had to pick one, I would actually pick Rumi. Yes, she is way too much like a red herring, but there are a couple of things. First, she is shown to be very very intelligent and strong. I believe in her first appearance she was shown to be better than Conan, she basically did to Conan what Conan does to Kogoro, which is a pretty big deal. She is probably at or close to Yuusaku's level, which, I might be wrong, but has never been the case for any other character in DC.

Secondly, she is not what you would expect a BO member to be. You would expect a BO member to just capture Haibara and Conan, but she seems someone who is instead very curious about Conan, who she knows is Shinichi, and wants to learn more about him and the shrinkage. In other words she is not extremely loyal, or at least doesn't solely work for the organisation's sake, kinda like Vermouth. This is something I would expect RUM to be like, or at least not be surprised if RUM was like this. Another problem is of course RUM should be a guy going by the naming pattern. This might have an explanation, maybe she is someone who can change appearances(but not to the level of Vermouth, or even Yukiko). So when she was codenamed, she was either pretending to be a man, or BO just mistook her for a man. This would explain two of RUM's three appearances.

But don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I think it's her, I think it's extremely unlikely it's her, but I think so for the other two as well.

As DCUA mentioned, at this rate I think it might be another hidden in plain sight kinda thing like Araide.  But I REALLY hope it's not someone we haven't met yet... this arc has been going for a while now ;)

  2. Has been a while!

Quite an interesting case so far, but more importantly congratulations to to Gosho, other people involved with DC and all  fans on reaching 1000 files! :)

One thing I notice is that a many important characters are appearing... Heiji, Sera, Yukiko, Yuusaku, and of course Shinichi himself. If this pattern continues, we might actually get BO involved as well, which will be great.

The tone set in file 1003 really makes it seem that the case will end in one, or at most two more files, but his appearance on TV I think is a really big deal. So far he has appeared as Shinichi many times but I think it's his first time that he was actually caught on TV. Obviously there's no way Gosho included him with Heiji in that picture for no reason. And if BO really finds this, I doubt the they can just say that it was Okita, BO can't be fooled that easily(I hope not at least). Also this hide and seek with Sera and Mary has been going for a while now, if Gosho doesn't plan on actually making progress on that, I don't see why he will bring up Sera giving hints that she knows who Shinichi is so many times... the audience already knows that she is aware of the shrinkage, so I really think she will actually confront him as Conan finally. Besides no way she won't, last time luckily the timing worked out and he managed to hide out, but if Sera wants she can easily confront him this time. I don't know if she will but I think we need some progress with this Mary deal. I think the information that there was a substance prior to APTX 4869 which when consumed shrinks someone, which even someone of Gin's level probably doesn't know about might be something of interest to Conan... but more particularly to Haibara. I have been wondering for a while now, but it feels like Haibara certainly knows more about BO than she has shared with Conan, it will be great if Conan finally learns about the substance that shrunk Mary and asks Haibara about it.

Gosho really has many ways of going with this case... the Sera/Mary line, the BO line, or maybe both. If it's the BO line I hope we get to learn more about RUM, he might be involved in it directly even.

  3.

Okay so quite a decent 5 file case :)

I don't know what role the new girl will play... she ~might~ be a detective or a detective wannabe as to me she closely resembles the female detective from that Heiji case who became really popular among fans. But in any case I have no clue if this new character will play any significant role in the future.

Also to Heiji Kazuha fans this new character's introduction guarantees there won't be any confession any soon so bad luck :P

So at the end of the last case Gosho wrote "That great detective will appear" which turned out to be Heiji, and this time time it says "That elusive guy will appear again"... could this be referring to KID? If so YES! :D Has been a while! If not who else?

  4. Yes their usage of sha instead of cha makes little sense, but I suppose they use it because in French cha is pronounced as English sha. Also Sharuru is very counter-intuitive, but it comes by taking Cha-r-le like that, the r and le both convert to ru because they don't have "L" sounds in Japanese, however Charles should be Cha-ru-zu or Sha-ru-zu, so technically I suppose the Sha-ru-ru is incorrect because it means Charle and not Charles, but I'm certain that's not any hint and simply a mistake, as you know they missed something as big as spelling Sherrinford Holmes as Sherring Ford so this surely can't be a hint or anything.

Btw was last week a break? Haven't heard of 960 yet(reminds me of chess 960 :P).

    Edit:

It seems there indeed was another break, I didn't expect two breaks to come one after another, I hope there won't be more for the rest of the case  :)

  5. It's seems to have gone now.

Btw something related to this matter, a few months ago if I simply searched on google something like "detective conan file xxx discussion" and say the link for the certain file's discussion topic of this site shows up, if I clicked on it I would be redirected to a weird website with like a pornographic image, the I would have to click back to get to the google search results page and then when I clicked the link again it would be fine. After that I simply started searching "detective conan episodes" and then I would click on the link to this site's anime list(which never had any problem for me) and then click on forums to come here. Fortunately I was not hit by any virus or anything from that.

  6. Has been a while for me here! Wow so this case seems cool :D Is it just me or does it remind anyone else of the Hound of the Baskervilles parody case? :P That one also had Heiji after all.

Not sure what the "nue" could mean but regarding the creature I think it could very very well be someone in a costume, though if so then the person must be really athletic to be so fast even in such a heavy costume. Btw can anyone please tell me which file is the latest one translated into English as of now? Thanks!

    Edit:

So I just read 958, and the piece of paper clearly seems to have been hold upside down judging by the side that had been ripped. So as someone before me pointed out it closely resembles "anu". I don't think btw that the ink leaked to the other side and that's the side they were reading. My prediction right now is that it's not English but something in Japanese, however written incorrectly. I mean he had a notebook in which he practiced writing "a" in hiragana, which is the very first thing you learn in hiragana, so he probably didn't know how to write all the other hiragana correctly. In which case again you might argue that he could have simply written Romaji so I really have no clue what he actually meant to write.

  7. It's set a record for biggest opening weekend for the series, and one of the biggest opening weekends in general.

04/16-17: ¥1.21 billion ($11.1 million) - Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare (Toho) WK1

04/23-24: ¥679 million ($6.1 million) - Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare (Toho) WK2

Wow even after the earthquake, I'm impressed!

  8. My favourite Heiji case might be the one on the ship(one of the very old ones)... well it's hard to say, he has just too many great cases, Gosho should seriously start a Meitantei Heiji xD

I doubt there'll be any confession attempts by Heiji, don't know if Kazuha will try, even if she does she'll probably fail. Gosho did say he is planning on another international case, so I think Heiji will confess there... well at least not in a haunted mansion xD

  9.

But you're presuming he even could. Maybe Scotch was strong enough not to simply let Shuichi/Dai take it from him—hence why Shuichi/Dai had to convince him to let it go.

I agree with mangaluva's post about this on her tumblr page:

"this sh** is a HEAVY-DUTY case of tragic mistake"

Shuichi/Dai was not blameless in this situation anymore than Rei/Tooru—he shouldn't have let his grip slacken on the gun anymore than Rei/Tooru should've run up those stairs.

Yes but he didn't even try. However I don't really blame him, he couldn't have known someone would come and naturally panicked. To be clear I don't blame any of the three involved, because the situation was just like that, none of those three could have done anything, none of them are actually at fault, but imo the fault really goes to the person who created such a situation, Gosho, but then again creating a situation like this was his only option. Any other situation wouldn't have worked if you think about it. It had to be a situation where it was not the fault of any of the three, but it was caused by all three. Then it also has to be something that Akai would resist sharing with Bourbon, and this situation succeeds in that as now Bourbon would feel guilty for Scotch' death if Akai share the details. Yes, he would still blame Akai but he would also blame himself, which Akai doesn't want to burden him with.

In conclusion Gosho really did what he had to perfectly, it just happens that it had to be very tragic.

Btw I don't think Akai and Bourbon will ever become friends, but I do want to see more conversations between Conan and Bourbon and of course Conan and Akai about Akai's family, that Gosho trolled us on in the U MASCARA case.

  10. Akai doesn't wear glasses at this time and the other person is a woman with lipstick and a hat. Akai was also alone in his truck. These shadow people were driving a different vehicle.

I see, it has been very long since I last saw it so I didn't remember that part. Who were those people supposed to be though? Were they accompanying Akai? If so then could it be they were intended to be Jodie and James whose designs were not yet completed? Oh and did Jodie or James ever appear before this file? If not it might be likely that they were those two.

  11. I don't know why you're making a big deal about whose gun it was—again... either, "You forced Scotch to kill himself, you bastard!", or, "You let Scotch die, you bastard!"

Oh no I'm not making a big deal about whose gun it was, I'm just trying to say it doesn't make sense that Akai had the time to explain why the gun wouldn't work whereas he could have just snatched the gun from Scotch. And then to top it off he loosened his grip and let Scotch shoot himself.

Oh btw, is there a break next week?

  12. Akai's shadow minions from the Death Trap in the Darkness case were rumored to be Fusae and Billy. I have that listed as jossed in my records though.

    Billy_Shadow_Compare.jpg

    Fusae_Shadow_Compare.jpg

Isn't that person smoking supposed to be Akai? Or was he shown to be somewhere else?

That's correct only if you believe that RUM is a new character.Which is not my opinion.

I personally believe that RUM is either a woman (we already have plenty of suspicious & unused female characters),or a feminine man.

Yeah but even if it is a character already introduced Gosho isn't obliged to use that person's VA at all, he might still use someone random.

He must be the strongest BO member i guess.

    away from that  RUM discussion

the pre-story episode for the movie includes some silly conversation between conan and amuro at the begining.

I know Conan knows about amuro's identity, but is it normal to ask him about the BO & his work as Police and amuro answers normally?

I guess that Gosho didn't notice that,he should get mad at the anime staff when he watches that

Hmm I personally don't find anything wrong with that. I did expect their talk to be very calm, I think that even though Bourbon really hates Akai he probably doesn't have a big grudge against Conan, I have no proof but I don't think Bourbon would try to harm Conan, but yeah maybe it's a bit too much for Conan too talk directly about the Secret Police, who knows if that place is bugged after all... but I am quite sure they consulted Gosho on it first, and Gosho probably didn't mind. It was a very funny episode though, for a few minutes it seemed like it was a cooking anime not a detective one haha xD

  13. *Scotch points the revolver at himself. Shuuichi rushes forward and grabs the cylinder*

Akai: "It's useless... If a revolver's cylinder is being gripped... The trigger can't be pulled with a human's strength..."

    *Amuro's footsteps*

*Scotch manages to pull the trigger despite Shuuichi's earlier speech*

Okay lol that was probably the most ridiculous scene in DC history hahaha xD

I wonder why Akai isn't sharing this with Amuro... there are two possible reasons

    1) What Gosho wants us to think- Amuro would feel guilty

    2) What I think- Amuro would think Akai is a complete noob who knows nothing about guns =.=

I am sure Gosho will come up with an explanation(or at least I home) but I mean come on the gun was literally in Akai's hands, stop acting cool and just snatch it from him...

What's more? Apparently it was Akai who had the gun at first, but Scotch snatched it from him, so no wonder Bourbon thinks it's largely Akai's fault. I guess this does kinda show Scotch was more experienced than Akai, he stole his gun and even pulled the trigger, not sure if this has any meaning though. Anyway this Scotch-Akai conflict turned out to be kind of ridiculous in my opinion.

I wonder if Gosho will ever talk more about Scotch, because so far it seems the only reason of having Scotch was to make Bourbon hate Akai, because if they were friends things would go too smoothly.

Also for those who think some day Bourbon will accept Akai, I doubt it... going by the Gundam reference they would probably be eternal enemies.

Speaking of them, Bourbon is again suspecting Okiya, he is probably starting to understand he was fooled again by Conan, at least I will be looking forward to another scarlet showdown ;)

  14. Of course, Rum could've been voiced in Movie 20 by someone who will not go on to voice the character Rum turns out to be.

Yes I am quite sure that's true, as Chek pointed out it should definitely be at least a year(probably much more) until Rum gets to speak in the anime, so it's far too early to choose someone... I believe Gosho would take his time instead.

Now we should wait to watch the movie to get an answer to the uestion "why RUM used thier voice",they could simply deliver  their message through  text or any other way. The setting might explain this as well

I honestly think there isn't any reason for that really... I just believe it was to create hype, and sure as a fan I found that it was a much better choice than having a mail by Rum shown. Besides it's really not any kind of a clue, the voice is well masked and probably by a random voice actor, not even necessarily of the same gender as Rum so I find nothing wrong with it.
