he can easily deduced that Sherry was in the chimney at Haido Hotel (volume 24) but failed to tell that there was someone (Conan) is hiding in the coin locker at Kenbashi Station (volume 38), though he slightly opened it already??

 

if he has such sharp ears to hear Sherry's breathing in the bigger and taller chimney, why he couldn't hear Conan's heavy breathing in the small, cramped coin locker that only can fit one small child, like Conan?

Logically, he should hear Conan's breathing too!!!

I don't think there's anything weird in this. Gin's common sense just kicked in. He knew/assumed that Sherry would be escaping from the room and the only way was through the chimney. With Conan, he assumed that it was a adult who set up the trap for Vodka thus is looking for one. He sees no reason for a child to chase the Org. So he dismisses the sound of Conan's breathing because it goes against his logic.
