Yujiro Tamaki (玉木裕次郎 Tamaki Yūjirō?) is a character in the anime franchise Detective Conan.

Background

Tamaki is a 65 year old employee at his son Ichiro's bookstore café and used to own an used bookstore called Tamaki's Used Bookstore until he was forced to close it due to its deteriorated status. Although he is old, he still doesn't want to retire and lives in Beika near Mouri Detective Agency. He is well acquainted with the Detective Boys since they helped him a lot when he still had his store. In a previous case, he was injured by his son who wanted him to close the store which he did before renovating the building and making it a café. In another case, he was suspected of murder after a customer with a rare book that visited him was killed but luckily, he was found not guilty because of the Detective Boys' thorough investigation.

Personality

Tamaki is a loving father that cares for others and who is generous since he didn't care about giving books to children even though the business wasn't doing well.

Plot overview

The Whistling Bookstore (Anime: 868)

While they were visiting an used book warehouse sale, the Detective Boys stumbled upon Tamaki who was trying to find some books he could sell in his store. Since he had too much stock, they helped him haul it to his place and he gave them orange juice and let them chose books they could take in free since he was grateful. The Detective Boys also met his son, a worker at the bookstore who got into an argument with his father about closing the store or not. The next day, he was found injured under bookshelves in his store and the young kids investigated the case to find out the truth. It turns out his son wanted the store to close and used the steam train monument in the park next to the store as a trick to knock down the bookshelves so the store could close. He didn't imagine his father would be there since he thought he went to the warehouse sale. Hopefully, they made peace together and opened a bookstore café where the use bookstore used to be.

The Whistling Bookstore 2 (Anime: 951)

Months after the café opened, business went really well and a lot of customers went in including one that had an old rare book that she showed to Tamaki. Tamaki was interested in the book and got in a fight with the customer who was found dead the next day. He was made the prime suspect but he was cleared of suspicion after Conan told Inspector Megure the truth behind the case.
