Pictures of people for cases

Hello. First of all, thank you for updating the episodes and uploading pictures! Great job there! Just a note when uploading pictures for the "People" section of a case: we aim for a "square" dimension of 225x225 pixels since it's neither too big nor too small (in size) yet resizes pretty well in the frame. For example, see Roller Coaster Murder Case, the picture of the owner is File:EP1_Mansion_Owner.jpg. It's 225x225 and "squared". It's important that it is squared as it sets a standard when it gets resized in the frame. Therefore, could you also follow those standards please? I would really appreciate it. Thank you and keep up the great work! :) --Maurice 03:00, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

RE: Stop

Hey S261157. I just wanted to point out that anyone can edit anything if they wish to help out. It's always welcome. Some specific job cannot really be somebody's job only. What you should do is agree with LaJota about which episodes you're working on so that each other's edits aren't interfering. But he's perfectly free to make relevant edits as long as there is coordination between fellow contributors and it's helping out the wiki. If you believe he's not doing his edits properly, you could simply teach him how it should be done. :) Remember to have patience with contributors as some are totally new to this all wiki thing, but over time they will learn and be really helpful, you'll see. Thank you for your consideration! --Maurice 21:47, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

It's alright, it's gonna be perfect, I know it! :) But not without everybody's help. The more contributors the better. Even if they are new, they will learn over time and be valuable assets to our contribution team later! This wiki project is sooo huge that we definitely welcome any motivated soul out there that wish to help out. It's a community-based project after all. So, everyone is free to join in on the fun! :P Thank you for your understanding btw. I appreciate it! --Maurice 21:54, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Re: Favor

What do you want fixed exactly in the murder case boxes? All I see that needs to be done is adding information to the boxes (such as "location", "cause-death", etc...). But since it's been a while since I've seen that episode, it's best that someone who just watched it fills it up. --Maurice 03:49, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

I think, just like what lashedcheek said here, that having several murder boxes for the different murders is a good way to do things. So, it's alright to have multiple boxes there. --Maurice 03:17, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

RE: Come on

It's exactly like lashedcheek said. I do believe it's best to be as precise and detailed as possible per crime (or crime attempt). It's not only cleaner to have a box for each crime, it's also much LESS confusing for the reader and that's our ultimate objective here: to be as reader-friendly as possible. What if an episode has a robbery, a murder and a murder attempt situation? Will you really try to put all 3 (which are all different in nature) into ONE crime box and explains all three crimes and contexts in that one small box? That would really be unfriendly and confusing, believe me. :o I know a lot about those kind of things, since it's part of my job too (I'm a web developer). Even if you may find it weird now, I'm pretty sure you'll quickly get used to it (if lashedcheek didn't do it all in one box the first time, you probably wouldn't have noticed :P). Anyway, remember that the key part here is to provide knowledge about DC in the most accessible way while being as less confusing as possible. And it's really hard to be as clear and clean when everything is mixed up into the same box/frame. Maybe in the future, we could find a better way to present crimes but I think it's reasonable enough for now. --Maurice 02:42, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

MY user page

Man, why the heck did you create a user page for me? I purposefully didn't do that. That's quite improper, y'know. You may create wiki articles but leave user pages alone (unless you're given permission to do so). Now my name isn't red. TT_TT --lashedcheek., 11 February 2011 (UTC)

You surprised me alright. It's quite okay, I guess.. I know you meant well. For retribution: you have to work twice as hard in this wiki! ;P --lashedcheek 23:40, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm so sorry really!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm already feeling depressed! -_-

Ehh, you didn't have to format my name. o_O That's another thing that you shouldn't do: edit other people's messages. But as I've said, I know you meant well. Just be mindful next time, okay? :) --lashedcheek 23:50, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Ok I understand! I promise I won't ever do that again!!! ;)

Re: I don't get it

Yeah, it is true that in Raven Chaser Conan is the one who cracked the case. However, I also added that Kogoro has solved the mystery of the Mah-Jong stones independently from Conan for the joint police commission, whom Conan did not inform about his progress. Have you ever watched the whole movie?

Minor police officers

I doubt it, unless he is a recurring anime detective I don't know about. If it were me, I'd toss him on the Minor law enforcement page and redirect him if he his own separate page already made. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 20:30, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

minor law enforcement link on main characters page

Why did you take the link to minor law enforcement out from the law enforcement listing on the characters main page? I put it there because many of the officers listed under minor law enforcement don't appear on the law enforcement page. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 21:43, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

"Doesn't look good" is not a legit reason unless you are talking about something like pictures on a page. Also it saves people the double click through, and is even more helpful in the case somebody is trying to pin down a character not listed in the main character section without knowing their name. It's a list of characters and thus is relevant to the law enforcement section. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 21:56, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

I need to make sure the template is displaying properly or otherwise I have to go and tell Maurice there is a problem. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 23:08, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

As I understand it, you are saying the template isn't displaying properly. Can you either #1) upload a cropped screenshot of the above two lines being displayed or #2) verbally explain to me in precise detail how the template is being displayed on your computer because I am going to report the error to Maurice in order to fix the template. I would prefer to have a working template because there are other places on the site where two main articles are listed. Also, I am not going to let something like a technical detail get in the way of being able to list two main articles under the law enforcement characters section. Therefore I am not "savvy". Chekhov MacGuffin talk 23:22, 15 April 2011 (UTC)
What are you talking about? This discussion has moved well beyond "do you like two main articles or not". This is about a template that you say isn't working right and Maurice and I need to figure out why it isn't working right because this template gets used in many more places on the site.
If I wanted to come up with a better template, I could use:
For more details on law enforcement, see Law Enforcement and Minor law enforcement
Finally, just to nitpick, you posted your comment in the wrong section of my talk page. The one about the the law enforcement and the template is the second from the bottom. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 23:52, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Are you referring to my telling how to upload new files or about my asking you about the display of the main article link? Cast in Red vs Black

I am with Maurice on this on having the cast listed for each episode. Red vs. Black is the longest anime arc and the characters do switch up between the subcases. My policy is the more information, and more specificity, the better. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 16:20, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Minding your own business is not how wikis work. Wikis are a collaborative project, meaning anyone can give input on anything they want because everything on a wiki is public. Also you never remove another user's talk page message from another user's talk page unless it is offensive (e.g. obviously insulting or vandalism). This is a blockable offense. Consider this your first warning. Furthermore, I found your message on my talk page rude. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 18:24, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Short story characters

Hey, don't you think it's better if we use the People template for the characters in the short stories? I would also prefer that they be in the Cast part like the episodes but it seems that the Char Appearances template is used for DC-related ones. Hmm.. Or maybe we could use it there, too. --lashedcheek 23:25, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Homes freak murder case

Talk page discussion. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 23:59, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

It's not about the pictures. It's about multiple crime info boxes. Maurice was the one who set up the standard for multiple info boxes in the first place. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 00:03, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
I think it's about time we set standards for the pages. I asked Maurice about creating a style sheet for pages, you should probably give some input. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 00:10, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
I reverted back to your version, so do whatever you need to do. (Not because I agree, but because I don't want to start an edit war with you.) The page standard thing needs to be done anyway. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 00:25, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Discussion copied from Chekhov's talk page: Yes indeed, we already established that it's better (and MUCH clearer) to have separate crime boxes in a given article for so many reasons (i.e. more reader-friendly, more details can be given, better images for each crime, crimes can be different -such as murder and robbery-, better description for each crime, clearer list of suspects/victims/locations per crime, and so on...). I actually already kind of implied the possibility to have several crime boxes in the manual of style for cases images. As for character appearances, we should indeed update the Manual of Style with some standard. I'll see what can be done there. --Maurice 00:33, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
I think Lashedcheek did a lovely job too, but stuff changes and people's work gets modified as the wiki grows. Lashedcheek shouldn't mind. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 01:14, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Re: But

If you don't like it, you simply have to state your reasons why. You can't just say: "I don't like it". We provided reasons as to why having many crime boxes are much better in general:

  1. More precise details about each crime:
    • Type of crime
    • Location
    • Victims
    • Suspects
    • Cause of death
  2. Clearer and more detailed description of the crime (can you imagine writing the description of 3 crimes into one single little box??)
  3. Much better image of the crime (fans will appreciate this in general)
  4. Instant visual idea of how many crimes occurred (by seeing the number of boxes). Having only one box forces the reader to make some effort in understanding what really happened, how many crimes occurred, and how (they actually HAVE to read the whole description to understand what happened, when and in what order and who was victim of the first crime or the second crime, etc...). One of the goal of this wiki is to provide information in the most accessible way possible (it really does make a BIG difference when you can easily grasp information from an article versus having to fight your way through it. Just think about it...).
  5. There's the possibility of having different types of crimes: such as a crime and robbery. Putting both crimes in the same box would make it so much confusing to the reader...
  6. All of the above makes it so much more accessible and reader-friendly to fans reading the wiki
  7. And many more reasons?

Now, it's your turn. Could you give me some good plausible reason as to why all the crimes and information should be compacted into one single box? Thank you. --Maurice 21:03, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

I think you didn't understand. ALL of the points (numbers) above are reasons as to why it's best to have separate crime boxes. So, no, the Manual of Style makes sense and is correct. You may not change the articles back. Thank you. --Maurice 21:11, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for finally trying to give a reason. But your reason is that you found 7 guys who "got confused of why there's more info boxes" and "they don't feel okay about it"? First of all, it's logically harder to edit one single box that talk about 3 different things at the same time. Editing one box per thing is much easier. It's also easier to read about one thing at a time in its own context (instead of several things all discussed at the same time). This is normal "writing content" behavior. I'm not inventing anything there. Everybody knows that we shouldn't talk about many things at the same time and/or mix things up when talking about a given topic. There's usually sections (for example: chapters in a book) to help separate ideas, content and ways of thinkings, all of which ensure there's a structured "reading flow" and that the reader isn't confused. When you put ALL of the information into one single box, it breaks this logic and the user eventually become confused. I would be curious if you could tell me who are those 7 guys you found? And if you do give me their names, I bet I can find 10 times more people who would prefer seeing multiple boxes instead of one where everything is compacted without much details and hard to understand (even the image is hard to understand when there's only a tiny bit of actual "picture content" per crime).
Also, please, do not revert changes before a consensus has been agreed upon and/or the Manual of Style dictates a different way of doing things. When there's a discussion pending, you should NOT edit the pages to do as you please before we even come to a conclusion. This is not how this works. You can't just take decisions like that on your own. That's why we have talks... We take action after we reach a conclusion, not before. Finally, you don't have the authority to supersede any decision we take (or may take in this case) about a specific discussion. The fact that you have reverted changes on those pages so many times gives me no choice but to protect these pages until you either become reasonable or we somehow reach a different verdict. --Maurice 23:03, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Something's wrong

It's normal, don't worry. I've made an announcement on the forum about it: file uploading temporarily disabled. --Maurice 20:39, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

"W-Code"?

I'm curious as to your reasons for moving episode 510 back to the name "Conan VS W-Code Mystery" since you never provided a reason on the Wiki page. If you can provide some kind of good reason for doing that, I'd probably be fine with it.

My main problems with it are:

- The W is sometimes used in Japanese to mean "double", since it's pronounced "daburu".

- Neither of the codes (the TWO codes, hence 'double') pay special attention to the letter W.

- By your logic, we'd have to call episodes 603-605 "The Séance's W Locked Room Mystery Case", which clearly makes no sense. EdiblePencil 19:28, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

I did some background checking and corroborated that Conan vs. Double Code Mystery is correct. See the talk page. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 20:17, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Wikilinks

I noticed that you have been deleting them in multiple places like the characters page or most recently in Detective Boys vs. Robber Group. Please don't. It is perfectly fine to have them; in fact, it is encouraged even if you can click the pictures up above and get to the same place. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 23:46, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Re: Advice

Hello there. Well, what you're trying to do is pretty difficult. They must be receiving hundreds (actually thousands) of emails everyday and they most likely only keep/answer the most pertinent (or necessary) ones. I don't believe they have an actual support channel just to serve the fanbase (since it would cost money for them and wouldn't be a profitable endeavour). So, unless it's a very important email, they will probably take time to respond or simply ignore it... --Maurice 21:09, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

What Maurice said. I don't think I will have better luck contacting them. Could you try the English publishers? Chekhov MacGuffin talk 21:23, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

The Crisis Beckoned by the Red Omen

Across the wiki, the situation has pretty much been one case, one page. This case isn't any different except it has two subcases, so it has been treated like the red vs. black page in that regard. This set of episodes is different than most others because they have unique names vs part 1 2, etc, but this is one case like any of the others. In any case, you need to stop reverting when Maurice and I have already talked about it. It's counter productive. As Maurice put it: "I think it's alright to have them be on the same page due to the way the episodes are set up: they indeed act like "parts" even though the titles are different. It would be more convenient for the reader to read about the cases if they're told in the same context, and thus the same article. When I face a typical challenge like this, I always put myself in the reader's shoes and think of what's more convenient and the best way to convey the information. So, I think it makes sense in this case to talk about the different episodes on one single page." Chekhov MacGuffin talk 21:36, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

I have blocked you for thirty minutes for changing back the pages despite the fact Maurice and I agreed the single page format was for the best. I will unblock you as soon as I can revert your changes and protect the pages. No. I don't do favors. I do what I think is best for the wiki. Also, I don't care if you don't like it. I don't like the wiki's romanization system and English name order for characters, I don't like that cases are numbered and described according to the anime rather than the manga. Even though I don't like it, I don't try to change it to the way I like, or ask Maurice to change the system because I have accepted that it how it was set up and that someone thought it was the most accessible system for users. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 21:49, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
You have been unblocked now. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 21:57, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
I blocked you so you wouldn't revert while I was protecting the pages. If you have reasons why the page should be changed back that are not "I don't like it", by all means post them.
I looked over our past disagreements and I noticed a pattern in the cases where you have conflicted with both me and Maurice. These conflicts were multiple cast lists in a single article, multiple crime infoboxes in articles about cases with several crimes, and most recently this. The pattern I am seeing here is that we often come into conflict on episode series that don't follow the standard pattern, be it because it is an extra long series (red vs. black), or has multiple crimes (Hatamoto case, etc.), or nonstandard naming (The Crisis Beckoned by the Red Omen). The source of the problem is usually you want to stick with the standard page format (one infobox, one cast list) for episodes where the standard way of dealing with things is not the clearest for readers because the episode series is in some way different. We would probably come into less conflict if you were to loosen up on trying to make every page fit a cookie cutter, inflexible mold, especially when dealing with non-ordinary cases. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 00:07, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
No. We went through this once already. Every case gets one page, just like the rest of them. This one is special because it has differently named episodes rather than part one part two etc, but it is all the same case. Just leave it be. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 05:22, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

individualized Ep screenshots and image gallerys

Don't undo them. This has already been cleared with Maurice a while ago. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 05:27, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

I'm getting tired of having to deal with your "I don't like it so I'm reverting" nonsense. First off, if you go check the manual of style, it specifically allows for case specific images, i.e. not the text titlecards. That has been in effect for a long time and you will find multiple examples other than these episodes. Second, there is nothing wrong with the image galleries. The reason they are there are so that images that have been uploaded for other pages (eg. character pages) can also be displayed in their episode page as well. This will make it easier to categorize them should we choose to do so later (like the German wiki does) because not many pictures are not properly sourced. It also gives people the option to upload pictures related to an episode, ova, movie, whatever to augment text description. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 22:58, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Changing names of the image

You can use the "Move" tab just like you'd do for a normal article. The best afterwards would be to delete the old image to avoid unused images cluttering in the system. --Maurice 20:24, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

If you don't see the "Delete" tab, then leave it to a moderator. --Maurice 20:30, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Permission

Yeah I know... Be patient please. I was AFK for 5 minutes. First of all, thank you for asking first! For a big change like that, it's certainly best not to make any substantial modifications right away. I think it would be good to start a discussion on the talk page. Renaming the article to Kaito might be a good thing to do (if we consider that it's also Shinichi Kudo and not Shinichi Kudou) but it might go down to factors like: how it's most commonly translated by the fansubbers or genuine references across the web about the best name to use, etc... I would leave it as it is for now and gather feedback from the community about the most appropriate name to use. --Maurice 20:47, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Well, if you re-read my previous message, I said it would be best to start a discussion on the talk page. Therefore, since you're the one bringing it up, feel free to voice your concerns about the change of name on the talk page: Talk:Kaitou Kid.. Thanks. --Maurice 13:19, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Problem

We got a problem. This user Daniel46 is creating a character profile of the principal of Teitan elementary school. You got to do something. It's regular people character.

Re: Hiroshi Agasa's name in different articles

I'm not exactly the ultimate authority on the matter, but my opinion is that for the cast of characters on the episodes/manga chapters we should use the terms most often associated with the character. Obviously not something like "Conan-kun" instead of "Conan Edogawa", but for characters like Hiroshi Agasa and Juzo Megure refer to them as the other characters do more frequently: Professor Agasa and Inspector Megure. We're not used to hearing their first names in use by others, so this makes more sense. In short to answer your question, "Professor Agasa" since "professor" was the term used in the original Japanese. --Skyechan 00:08, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

I really think Professor Agasa makes more sense. --Skyechan 00:27, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Clearlefts

As a heads up, it's better to leave the picture right justified and put the clearleft at the end of the paragraph. You don't make massive spaces between the text that way. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 20:50, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Something like this usually looks good. Just use whatever way works as long as there aren't large gaps if possible. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 20:59, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
You can also experiment around with the {{clear}} function as well which puts enough space across the page so every picture "stays" with its individual paragraph. Like clearleft it goes at the end of a section. "Clear" has been used on pages like recurring minor characters to make sure each character's picture stays across from the title. Maybe clear would work better here? Chekhov MacGuffin talk 21:06, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

RE: Anime episode guide

Hmmm. Well, as far as I can tell, Wikipedia is correct. The DVD 19-10 includes episodes 602, 603, 604, and 605, meaning that Season 20 officially starts at episode 606, unless a DVD 19-11 is released at a later date. This isn't my expertise however, so don't take my word for it. Skyechan could probably give you a more definitive answer, as she purchases the DVDs (whereas I do not). --Jigsaw 02:38, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Changing picture

Hey, can you change the 100px pictures of Akako Koizumi, Chikage Kuroba, Aoko Nakamori, Ginzo Nakamori into color backgrounds. Please.

Placement of Info Boxes

The Info Boxes are effectively summaries to the whole episode. Stylistically, they should therefore be placed in an introductionary position, i.e. at the BEGINNING of a plot decription. It's no good splitting up the main text with them just because your predecessors thought that this looked "cooler" instead of stylistically acceptable, especially in a quasi-encyclopedic site.

Or, if I may ask, do you set any introductionary summaries right into the middle of your own written texts? Like in this (admittedly abstract) example of a job application letter:

  • "I am 24 years old, and I have a bachelor degree in chemistry.
"Application request for a full-time job in your company
"I have also had internships and gathered practical experience and blah blah blah ..."

Frankly: Would you send off a letter of application away like that?

Please consider that before you attempt to maintain (if I may express it thus) the continuous stylistic havoc on this site. I intend to correct these misplacements as fast as I can spend time on them, but with the multitude of entries, it will take a while, so please bear with me.

Sincerely yours, Daniel46 22:25, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

Still I think this is the wrong style. I mean, it's like placing the headline of a newspaper article into the middle of the main text. I guess any newspaper editor would be so thrilled at this innovation. Should I try to contact them and confer their answers to Maurice for reference, what do you think?
Sincerely yours,Daniel46 05:58, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Racing

While adding new information is definitely a good thing to do, remember that quality is better than quantity. I've seen more than 20 edits from you in less than 10 minutes, each adding nothing more than TV Original to an episode's infobox. I'm not sure if you think this is a race or a contest or something, or if you just want to accumulate a lot of edits, but taking it slowly and actually adding more information than one simple copy and paste is better in the long run. I only say this because I noticed that you started making these swarms of edits after I started updating episodes myself. Try adding things like Opening songs, Closing songs, English titles (if applicable), Suspects, Next Conan's Hint, etc when you make such edits. Of course, there's no rule against what you are doing, but it's just kind of irritating to see the the Recent Updates page spammed with multiple minor edits that I can't hide when viewing... --Jigsaw 01:15, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Oh I know you are just trying to help. And it's greatly appreciated. Edits keep this Wikia updated. It's just hard to sort through non-related edits when the Recent changes page is swarmed by a lot of identical edits all at once. When I do that sort of thing (i.e. Sorting multiple images into categories), I click the "This is a minor edit" box in order to allow people the option of hiding my edits with the click of a button. If you plan on continuing these repeated copy-and-paste +42 edits that you've been doing, it would be super helpful if you'd click the previously mentioned box so that I can sort through other edits. Of course, if you add more information than just the +42 "TV Original" edits, you don't have to click the box. Just use your best judgment I suppose. Again, this isn't a rule or requirement; just my personal preference. --Jigsaw 01:29, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Amuro

Considering the very heavy speculation that he is Bourbon, and that in 795 he starts working at Poirot and becomes Kogoro's apprentice, all signs point to Amuro being an important character. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 22:44, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Jigsaw

The reason why Jigsaw has asked you to wait until he finishes is because you are giving him the edit conflict notice. These happen when someone else edits while you are. When you get them it is confusing to figure out what was changed and it is really easy to accidentally undo the changes someone else just made. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 17:30, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Chekhov summed things up pretty well. Fixing up this article has been one of my side projects, slowly gaining momentum over the past few weeks. You made several good edits and fixed some mistakes I made, both of which are appreciated, but for the time being, I'd like to work without the edit conflicts. Re: Wait

If you'd read carefully through the discussion you'd figure out what I'm doing. Midori does NOT need a profile page, she's listed on Minor recurring characters. I'm in the process of removing unnecessary profile pages and editing the character list. All information about characters whose profile pages are being deleted are simply being moved to the list pages. Another list is in progress on my profile page at the moment that will eventually become the Notable case characters list. --Skyechan 19:12, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Those characters should be linked to their names in the Notable cases or Minor recurring lists. --Skyechan 19:19, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

character ages

I reverted you in Eri. I JUST sourced Eri's age to be 38, 37 in her first appearance and then + 1 for her birthday. Changing and/or deleting Images

Hi again and thanks for your previous tips. Was just wondering however how to delete those three images you commented on earlier and if upload new version deletes the old one to be replaced by the new one. Trying to correct my little mistake there without adding any more to them since there is plenty of job adding episode images and such without me giving you and other contributor more work. --Cortax 00:10, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

While I taken note on the different naming depending on the image type, I also noticed that the casefile images are 640x480. So was just wondering if 250x250 for people and 640x480 for case images (like EP312-313 Case.jpg for example) is the common norm and if there is any other formats I should be aware of before uploading them.--Cortax 00:52, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks again, managed to overlook that one but its just what I was looking for. Shouldn't have any more problems. --Cortax 01:08, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, noticed a lot of "people" images was missing so decided to give a bit of an effort since all I only recently started to watch the Conan Anime and the episodes was still relative fresh on my mind. But pretty much reached the point to where I watched the anime now so going to be a bit before I do any more adding, as I need to watch the episode for the remaining 300 before I can do any and that will take some time *lol*. Didnt know that part about adding in Murder as I must have added that while fixing one of the crime-images, as my main focus been on adding images on wiki-prefered size so only been reading the guide concerning that and generally avoided making any changes in the text for now. C ya --Cortax 02:31, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Normally tries to avoid subtitles, and looking at my recent contributions I take it you are referring to the case-image for "love letter to Ran". Will take a look and see if I can correct that. Thx for the heads up.--Cortax 20:08, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

people pictures in rectangle...I take it you mean images that people uploaded outside the "preferred" size. No problem as already been doing as I come across them, though they seem to be pretty rare. The most pain though is getting those crime case images without subtitles since in the Conan anime I have, the subtitles seems hard-coded into it so cant just unselected subtitles. Still, got plenty of time to recheck episode pages here now since I managed to catch up again to my current watched episode. Btw, hope I don't give you too much extra work with added small details on the "people" part since I tend only to focus on getting the images done only.--Cortax 22:20, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

People Section

Have a question concerning the people section. Was taking a second look at the images in the people section to find the wrong image format when I noticed some of the reoccurring characters appearing in the people section as well as character introduction in those episodes. Eri Kisaki(Ep032) and Shuichi Akai(Ep230-231) first appearances is prime example of this so I first assumed it was because they where suspects/involved/Witnesses in those cases. Then I came upon other incidents like James Black's first appearance(Ep258) where he doesn't appear in the People section but only the character introduction despite being the key character involved in a kidnapping case during his first episode as well as Kogoro Mouri, whom was a murder suspect in (Ep 199) but only appears in the Cast section. Already checked the Manual of Style for a bit of guidance but couldn't find any answer to this. So just wanted to check with someone more experienced around here exactly what the set standard is for the people section and if a character should be in both the Introduction/Cast section and the people section when they get personally involved in a case or if those other times this has occurred is either mistakes or exceptions due that being their first appearances? My personal first impression when I found this site was that it was reserved mainly for characters that only makes their appearance in a single/dual episode and couldn't be counted as either Main or reoccurring character. --Cortax 13:02, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, noticed that one too while I was writing to you but didn't add it since I had enough of examples already. Also checked around the forum without finding any clear answer to this question, so I'm wondering who around here can I turn to with questions like that. Is there some individual around here you suggest I ask this, is the forum the best bet to ask this or alternatively, is there some discussion section that is best suited for these kind of question that I might be unaware of?
Aside from you, Chekhov MacGuffin and Skyechan, neither whom I talked to to any as of yet, seems to be the most active around here since I started adding a little to this wiki but neither of them has anything like that in their talk and don't know of any other user aside from you three I might ask at present. --Cortax 15:47, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

"You are making a serious mistake. Detective Conan is based on comic books called manga drawn by Aoyama Gosho. One year after these comics are written, a team of animators makes it into a TV cartoon called an anime. Sera Masumi and Tooru Amuro are new characters less than one year old who have not appeared yet in the anime, because the anime is one year behind the manga. Also the anime and the manga have several differences. One difference is that they introduce characters at different times. You have been editing the pages for the manga, not the anime, and so have been changing it to wrong information. Your edits are being changed back and you are being blocked from editing. If you are looking for the television cartoon, click anime."

Nevermind, I asked an Indonesian to translate. If/When I get a response back, I'll just make the message invisible and leave it on the top of the Volume 73-76 pages for a week, since he always seems to target those first. Hopefully he will read it and stop, since this seems to be a misunderstanding rather than malicious editing. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 14:49, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
hello, i think this simple misunderstanding can be avoided if you tell him this:
Sera Masumi dan Tooru Amuro adalah karakter baru yang belum juga muncul di anime karena mereka baru diperkenalkan pada 2011. (Sera muncul pertama kali pada conan manga volume 73 file 6 sedang Amuro muncul pertama kali pada volume 75 file 9. Sedang Conan manga yang terbit di Indonesia baru Volume 65 kan? Jadi silahkan sabar menanti kemunculan mereka yah…)
Sera Masumi and Tooru Amuro are new characters less than one year old who have not appeared yet in the anime, and just introduced in 2011 (Sera first appear is on conan manga vol 73 file 6 while Amuro appear at Vol 75 fils 9. The latest conan manga that release in Indonesia is volume 65 right? So please be patient waiting for they appearances, okay…)
I hope this help. sincerely yours,
(you know who i am without me saying my name right? :P).

Next time he comes around

I'm not too keen on protecting Amuro because he appeared in the latest manga chapter, so he should attract some edits. Maybe you should try telling our misguided IP that...

We are a special website which has the information and stories that the anime staff are using to make future episodes. I'm sure you have noticed that some of the cases we predicted were going to happen, like "Grabbing Karuta Cards in Dire Straits", actually happened exactly as we said they were going to. We knew this because we have the full stories, and even lots of black and white drawings that will be used for art in some of the episodes that are still being made. If you would like to know, here are the next episodes that will be shown on Japanese television.

Jan 21 Ep 130 競技場無差別脅迫事件(前編) The Stadium Indiscriminate Threatening Case (Part 1) Remastered Episode
Jan 28 Ep 131 競技場無差別脅迫事件(後編) The Stadium Indiscriminate Threatening Case (Part 2) Remastered Episode
Feb 4 Ep 644 「死ぬほど美味いラーメン)(前編)」 Ramen So Delicious Til Death (Part 1) Manga Based on File 765-767
Feb 11 Ep 645 「死ぬほど美味いラーメン)(後編)」 Ramen So Delicious Til Death (Part 2) Manga Based on File 765-767

Please be patient. Sera's introduction is coming soon. The director is working on the schedule right now, and we will post it as soon as we know. Amuro will appear much later.

If we make it sound official maybe we can trick him (and I didn't lie once in the above)... He could have looked this information up from any source, or better yet noticed that we somehow seem to know all the stories that are coming next, so I think I can officially confirm that IP is a first class idiot. Clearlefts

I have undone the clearlefting on Okiya. The clearlefts have created large gaps on the pages around what was supposed to be a left justified picture. In the future, I suggest you make adding clearlefts an exception to correct a picture jutting across a line rather than a rule where it fouls up left justified images. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 22:01, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

The subheaders can be pushed to the middle. In Okiya's case it works out because the sections under the subheaders are short and don't have a line. You generally would not want to push a main section which has lines ("==") right. Example of what not to do On my sorting algorithm of ugly, big spaces are worse than pushed right subheaders. Also, clear and clearleft are similar. Clear stops all pictures whether they are right or left justified from going below the clear. Clearleft does the same thing, only for the left half of the page. You can see several clears used in the Okiya article. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 00:19, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

You can also redirect to specific sections. The easiest way to do that is to copy the last part of the url when you click a section on a page (don't worry about the underscores). DCTP has said the upcoming April Anime Episodes...... http://forum.dctp.ws/index.php?topic=8065.0 and by the way on April 7 and April 14 will be not The Truth Behind Ayumi's Abduction (Part 1 and 2) but the Hooligan's Labyrinth (Part 1 and 2) Remastered ..... This is all the information I got. --Ectvalenz

Gallery....

Can you make a gallery on the Episode 649 - 651? And can you teach me how to upload a picture in a gallery? --Ectvalenz

Re: Listen

Okay, maybe the Situation entry should remain as it is, although I think in this case it's a bit superfluous. But as to "Kogoro Mouri (via Conan)", I say more like the reverse is true because it sounds like Kogoro solves the case using Conan as a mouthpiece, instead of the factual process, which is exactly the opposite. - Daniel46 19:51, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

No, it's not. The formulation you use still makes it look as if Kogoro solved the case and not Conan. So I suggest you ask someone else on this wiki about his opinion, and relay his/her answer to me.
Okay, okay, I'll leave it as it is, then. But this formulation still is analogously incorrect. Any English teacher worth his salt would either get a heart attack or laugh himself sick about that. - Daniel46 21:29, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

Masumi Sera subchapter titles

The subchapter titles were put there to break up what would otherwise be a giant block of text. I think it would be better to keep them.

Edit: I suppose I should say I don't really care how the section is broken up so long as it is not a giant block of text. Manga chapters were a convenient way to break it up initially. While I don't see a continued problem because the anime gets linked in the giant title anyway, if you have a better solution for how to split them, I don't mind.Chekhov MacGuffin talk 02:29, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Re: Request

Changed template to read "Victim(s)" instead. Only way I could figure out how to fix it. --Skyechan 03:24, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

What I did is the only solution I know. I didn't do the other thing ("cases solved by"), so I don't even begin to know how to tackle your request. I can't do it. Ask Maurice.--Skyechan 04:56, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

RE:Template: InfoBox Crime

It's done. I added a "victim-label" option just so that the label can be as flexible as needed. --Maurice talk 20:02, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

You know you have been busy...

When the mods start wishing they could hide only your edits to check everyone else's more than once in a week. I just want to say keep up the great work and thanks for all your contributions so far. You've really made things clean and slick and your all your effort shows. :D Chekhov MacGuffin talk 22:51, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

I'm still editting.

You are giving me edit conflicts. Can you come back to the page later? Chekhov MacGuffin talk 01:01, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Gadget order

The reason I had switched the order was based on the order in which they were actually used in the episode. The Manual of Style currently does not have anything listed in regards to the order in which Gadgets are to be listed. What's your opinion? --Skyechan 03:36, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

2 cases...

Hey, S261157. There are 2 vehicular vandalism incidents in The Red Oily Shuu Case. The other vehicular vandalism incident is at Detective Chiba's car. Should I add one more crime box or disregard that case :). --Ectvalenz 11:00, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Handedness page is personal, not wiki

Can you not change the name order on my page? It's personal page not a wiki page, and I prefer Japanese name order. Thanks. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 21:36, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

No problem. :) Chekhov MacGuffin talk 21:40, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Re : Please

I just remove the people section, Most of them don't have picture so it deform the page. You should put the pictures at least. Mystery Bullet

Re : Please

When will it upload ? after one month, two months, three months or after a year !.... During that time, the pages will be deform..... P.S : You talk like the website is yours only

Re : Please

You should buy the website instead of talking like you own it...Skyechan edited the people section and she put the pictures, but Noki25valenz didn't put the pictures, Instead of defense Noki25valenz you can put the pictures.....OK your majesty, the website is all yours, Edit, format and deform it as you like, and when you find yourself alone Don't ask why !, <Too bad, I didn't expect you so ______ like this>

??

What is undo revision and what is the problem about that user??? --Ectvalenz 02:09, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Re: Sections and sub section

It is listed in the Manual of Style to set up the sections the way I have been doing them.

Note the "Order" section. "Case (or Title") is 3. "Situation", "People", and "Resolution" are 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3 respectively. Ergo, they belong as sub-sections underneath the "Case" section. This is no different for one episode, two episode, or three episode cases; all cases are to follow this model.

This is how a majority of the episodes are already listed, as the Manual of Style's been in place for an extremely long time. You have to follow the Manual of Style. Stop messing with my edits that are trying to MATCH everything to the Manual of Style. It is a pain in the ass to have to undo all the edits you're making that go AGAINST the Manual of Style. --Skyechan 12:57, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Sad news....

Hey, S261157, did you heard the sad news about DCTP? --Ectvalenz 02:26, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

DCTP will STOP subbing the Detective Conan latest episodes.... Wahh :(
Effective next week.... http://forums.dctp.ws/index.php?topic=8465 <-- go to this link :(
But, they will STILL translate the latest manga files.
Also, ConanTV is not accessable anymore...

Re : Changing title of the article

I expected that you will send me a message and after you see my edits, so I prepared my replied for a long time "I am sorry, I am idiot"

Hmmmm, I maybe understand your true meaning of your last replied....well, If you want me not doing any edit anymore because you're afraid that I ruined the wiki, just say it openly and I will accept your decision gladly.

Yay!!!

Did you heard the good news!? --Ectvalenz 02:38, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

DCTP will still translate the ff.

Side story of Movie 16

OVA 12

and Movie 16

And they have released EPS. 656 - 657!

How great is that! http://forums.dctp.ws/index.php?topic=8501

4 episodes in 1 page?

Can we try having The Scar of First Love, The Scar that Evokes the Past, The New Scar and the Whistling Man and An Old Scar and the Detective's Spirit in one page? Like Murderer, Shinichi Kudo, Shinichi's True Face and Ran's Tears andWhat She Truly Wants to Ask (just a suggestion) --Ectvalenz 03:26, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Re: Request

Done! --Skyechan 02:41, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Re: Question

That is correct. Although the Scar Akai confronting Sera probably isn't the real Akai, Sera's reaction confirms that she is Akai's younger sister. (Unless Aoyama is trolling us. lol.) As for removing the speculation, personally I left a message on Chek's page asking what she wanted to do with the speculation since she wrote it originally. Not sure who the IP is, but it's not a big deal that they deleted the info as it would probably be removed anyway. If Chek wants to rewrite the info for a different section of Sera and Akai's pages she can simply find the text again through the page history. --Skyechan 09:33, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Suo versus Suou

It's "Suou" or "Suoh", not "Suo". The long "ō" is always represented using an extra "u" or "h". Like how we transliterate "Kaitō Kid" as "Kaitou Kid". I'd appreciate if you'd not edit battle me. I think I have a bit more experience transliterating and reading Japanese than you do. --Skyechan 19:34, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Never rely on Google translate. :/ The only way to get a proper reading is to do it yourself.

File:Touyaexplanation.jpgFile:Suouexplanation.jpg

Even ignoring the fansub transliteration, you can clearly see the use of the long ō by the fact the furigana above the name indicates a "u" kana following a kana ending in "o". For Tōya, the "to" is followed by the kana for "u", so we transliterate his name as "Touya". For Suō, the "o" is followed by the kana for "u" again, so we transliterate her family name as "Suou" or "Suoh". Again, I'd appreciate if you'd not argue with me and perhaps brush up on your kana reading ability before starting an edit battle with me. --Skyechan 19:50, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Don't delete other people's replies on their talk pages

This. Seriously. You've been here long enough to know better than to delete someone else's reply on their talk page. It's basic etiquette. Are you looking for a ban because you've done plenty to earn one, edit warring with Skyechan being the latest? You are not the overlord of the people sections, and people don't have to ask for anyone's permission to edit public pages on the wiki. Please take a look at this.
