==== The Case ====
Heiji and Kazuha take a motorcycle ride to the mountains of the Tottori prefecture, but they get lost in their way there. Kazuha remarks on how they forgot their cellphones and have run out of gas, and Heiji yells at her (and childishly pulls on her cheek) for tagging along when it isn't needed. It turns out Heiji was hired for a nice amount of money by a rich Tottori family to investigate some odd things that have happened in their home, but didn't give him their phone number.

Heiji and Kazuha take a motorcycle ride to the Yonago mountains of the [[Wikipedia: Tottori Prefecture|Tottori prefecture]], but they get lost in their way there.

The two are close to the forest and don't have camping gear handy, so Heiji says they should just plop down and sleep close together to keep each other warm. Kazuha is flustered at the idea and then gets angry when Heiji adds that he hopes she won't snore... and them someone appears from behind them and teases them about how couples shouldn't fight. It's an American man named Robert Taylor who is fluent enough in Japanese to understand their banter and acts very familiar towards the two; he mentions a Takeda family that housed him some years ago, and Heiji and Kazuha recognize their surname as the one of the family that hired Heiji... but he's lost, so he cannot really help them to get to their mansion.

A van passes around and, to call up the attention of the people in it, Heiji throws his helmet towards them... The driver's compantion turns out to be Kogoro, who gets hit and gets VERY mad at Heiji. Ran and Conan are also with him and they give Heiji, Kazuha and Robert a ride to the Takeda property. It turns out Kogoro was also hired by the Takedas, and for a very high sum of money as well, even sending out one of the family members (third son Yuuzo) to pick the group up in their van. He and Heiji discuss how the cards they also got from the family are rather odd and refer to a "spider"; Yuzo Takeda explains that this about a "spider curse" that has befallen the Takeda family and their home, known as the "Spider Mansion of Tottori", one that no criminal should get close to. Yuzo then talks to Robert, whom he remembers from the time he was in Tottori; they talk about a girl named Misa, but Yuzo doesn't reply when he asks about her well-being...

When the group arrives to the Takeda household, Robert is devastated to learn that Misa, who had taken care of him in his last visit, killed herself by hanging few after his departure. Her mother Kinuyo and the family friend/associate Akio Negishi also commited suicide in a similar way. The one who relays the news is Youko, Yuzo's sister in law, who has just come from Tokyo alongside her husband Ryuuji and their kids Sae and Emi; Negishi was the business partner of Nobukazu Takeda, a famous doll-maker and Misa's father, as well as the one who actually hired Kogoro.

Nobukazu is surprised to see that Kogoro has brought several people with him, and he makes Heiji, Kazuha and Conan pass off as Ran's friends. He then talks briefly to Robert, who thanks him for letting him stay around some time ago. The twin girls Sae and Emi also arrive, but when Robert greets them cheerfully, they quietly call him "murderer" and accuse him of coming to kill people again before their mom scolds them and run away. The matriarch of the family, Chie, also watches them from a distance...

<spoiler>Conan and Heiji cooperate to reveal the murderer's identity and his trick. '''Robert Taylor''' is the murderer. While Kinuyo Takeda's suicide was genuine and started the rumor of the Takeda Tsuchigumo Yokai, Misa Takeda's was caused due to a misunderstanding in a temporary farewell message left by Taylor. One day Taylor was the victim of a rockslide accident and nearly died if Misa did not save him. The injuries were severe that he could temporary not talk and as he could only write romanji, the two were initially unable to communicate with each other. Misa was already facing depression because she had learn that she was not her father's daughter. The true father was Ryuji and the conception was an arrangement between him and Misa's mother, because Nobukazu had been declared steril and Kinuyo desperately wanted a child. The Takeda Brothers' mother figured the truth on her own and named her two other granddaughters, so along with Misa's name they would make a loop. MISA-SAE-EMI. A romantic relationship blossomed between her and Taylor. When Taylor left he wrote in English "SHINE" for his beloved to express the sentiments that he considered her the "shine of his life". The twins mistook it to mean "to die" seeing it as a death threat and committed suicide for this reason. Negishi and the people who knew the truth about Misa's birth assumed it was out of shame. Taylor returns and hears about her death from Akio Negishi who upon making a perversed comment about his beloved drove Taylor into a rage where Negishi was strangled/hanged. He then resolved to murder the entire/key members of the Takeda family in the belief that they were responsible for her death. He sees Nobukazu Takeda as a perfect excuse for a callous victim as he was secretly involved in a drug smuggling operation.

When Taylor left he wrote in English "SHINE" for his beloved to express the sentiments that he considered her the "shine of his life". She mistook it to be written in romanji as the japanese word for "to die" seeing it as a death threat and committed suicide for this reason. He murdered Nobukazu by luring him to the lodge where the Takeda females committed suicide via telephone call. He would threaten to reveal his operation if he did not comply. Before this was set, he laid massive piles of silk thread in the attic, with one particular thread tied in the manner of a slingshot by the window. He lured Nobukazu to this position and to have him peak his head out by firing Bee Bee gun rounds against the pane. The instant he peaks out Robert would pull a string that would release the slingshot mechanism - effectively snapping Nobukazu's neck and leaving him dangling in silk threads much like the yokai curse. This was done at the time he was leaving to view constellations at an observation point on a motorbike so as to create an alibi.

Kazuha becomes an unwanted victim in his revenge scheme because she managed to find one of his BB rounds thinking it to be a pearl. When confronted and his plans revealed, he refused to express remorse over having dragged Kazuha into his plans and blames the whole family for Misa's death until Heiji decides to reveal what really drove Misa to suicide and Conan tries to stop him knowing it would scar the murderer for life. Robert becomes utterly broken and as he is taken away by the police he repeatedly mutters "why did he have to be an American, why did could he not speak Japanese, and why she could not speak English" in the manner of a broken Karakuri Doll that had lost everything.

Situation

The Case

Heiji and Kazuha take a motorcycle ride to the Yonago mountains of the Tottori prefecture, but they get lost in their way there.

It turns out Kogoro was also hired by the Takedas, and for a very high sum of money as well, even sending out one of the family members, third son Yuuzo, to pick the group up in their van. He and Heiji discuss how the cards they also got from the family are rather odd and refer to a "spider". Yuzo Takeda explains that this about a "spider curse" that has befallen the Takeda family and their home, known as the "Spider Mansion of Tottori", one that no criminal should get close to. Yuzo then talks to Robert, whom he remembers from the time he was in Tottori. They talk about a girl named Misa, but Yuzo doesn't reply when he asks about her well-being.

Cause of death: Hanging
Few days ago, Negishi committed suicide by hanging. But Nobukazu suspects murder.

The matriarch of the family, Chie, also watches them from a distance.
