<spoiler>The etymology of "NEWS" is said to come from "Touzainanboku (東西南北?, North, South, East and West)" as in "N" stands for Kita (北?, North), "E" stands for Higashi (東?, East), "W" stands for Nishi (西?, West) and "S" expresses Minami (南?, South).

<spoiler>
When solar light came in through the window, the letters of "NEWS" written on the window appeared as shadows on the floor.

Sonoko says Naoya Higashida would be the real culprit in the story. So Genta came up with having Higashida's given name is Ichirou (one) and the meaning of the dying message is number one. Ayumi then suggested Oshita is trying to say "one" in English (pronounced as "Wan" in Japanese) and Higashida is a dog instead. Mitsuhiko then suggested that Oshita is an alien who was shocked and having his heart stopped because Higashida found out about the fact. Turing it into a parody of ET, as the Detective Boy was trying to run away with the alien from the police. Sonoko rejected all of these suggestions.
The left hand of Oshita is on the shadow of the "E", showing that the killer is the one who has "East" in his name, Naoya Higashida.

Later, inside Mouri Detecive Agency. Conan was able to came up with a plausible resolution after seeing the text sticker on the windows and Mitsuhiko talking about how Genta is making pizza's grease dripping everywhere. The resolution he came up with is as follow:

"NEWS" can be used to represent the cardinal directions. As in, "N" stands for Kita (北, North), "E" stands for Higashi (東, East), "W" stands for Nishi (西, West) and "S" expresses Minami (南, South).
 +
When sunlight came in through the window, the letters of "NEWS" written on the windows appeared as shadows on the floor.
 +
After Higashida left, Oshita then saw the shadows as the sunlight came. So he uses his left hand to point the shadow of the "E", revealing that the culprit is the one who has "East" in his name.

 +
Oshita grabbed Higashida's left arm with his right hand soon after he has been stabbed. Which in turn also touched Higashida's watch.
 +
Since he was eating pizza just before that, a greasy fingerprint is on the watch.
 +
Oshita didn't wear a watch, so he grabbed his belt with his right hand, signalling that the culprit's (watch) belt should be checked.
 +

 +
The culprit's motive is he got fed up with the president trying to make the magazine sells by writing fake reports, which goes against his will and his loves to the magazine.

Oshita touched the watch of Higashida soon after having been stabbed.
+
Sonoko accepted this story. Then one week later, as the time came for the state play, Sonoko ended up caught a cold and can't say a word. So Ran has to replaced her. Alongside a small change in the script. From the culprit simply surrendered to an action scene where Ran defeat the culprit.
He was eating pizza just before that, so a greasy fingerprint is on the watch.

</spoiler>
Oshita who did not have a watch, so he placed his hand on his belt, signalling that the killer's (watch)belt should be checked.</spoiler>
