The culprit is '''Hitomi Sasaki'''. She has marks on her hands and the marks were made when she tried to force the fishing line off the star, she must have panicked.  After the murder, Kogoro Mouri ordered everyone to stay put, and the fishing line used in the murder should be still in her pocket. Hitomi confesses that Yuuichi broke up with her to be with Shoko, but she already accepted his decision. However, Shoko broke up with Yuuichi and says that Yuuichi is boring and airheaded, that she will give him back to Hitomi and laughed in a haughty manner. That is why Hitomi killed Shoko because she couldn't forgive her for the fact that she wasn't serious about the relationship and that Shoko just wanted to take Yuuichi from her.
