The killer from fifteen years ago is
Hajime Tomori. He killed Morofushi's parents because he thought that they had kidnapped his daughter Yuri, even though she died from appendicitis after a stroke during physical education class. He also kidnapped Sotsukuri because she looked similar to his daughter.

When they confront Tomori, they find out he has rigged his cleaning shop with explosives and barricaded himself with Sotsukuri, planning to commit suicide with her. Luckily, Rei and Matsuda disarm the bombs while Date and Morofushi talk him into surrendering. It all seems to have ended well, but is it the case.
Manga to anime changes
- Some scenes and dialogues are not adapated in anime version, including:
- Onizuka remembering the event he considered as misconduct done by the five people, and Matsuda complaining that one of it was to save Onizuka's life.
- Rei, Date, and Hagiwara's reaction to Matsuda saying "You can trust us" while convincing Hiro to tell the story.
- Matsuda and Date mentioning "The Three Kingdoms" after hearing about Koumei.
- Hiro's description about the three suspect of the murder.
- Date giving more description about Irie Sumio, when he started living in Tokyo, his character and reputation.
- Onizuka checking the five poeple just to see none of them are in the bathroom.
- Onizuka's dialogue after hearing Rei's explanation, where he threatens that he will have the five people to write a resignation letter if the bathroom is still dirty.
- The flashback scene where Hiro met Rei for the first time is in the anime, but the only dialogue by Rei is not included.
- In the manga, after Matsuda said that Hajime Tomori is the culprit, Hagiwara wondered why Tomori kill Hiro's parents, and Hiro mentioned the possibility of Yuri being Tomori's daughter. In the anime, after Matsuda said Tomori's name, Hiro remembers Yuri's full name, and is sure that Yuri is Tomori's daughter.
- In the manga, the details of Tomori's statement during convenience store robbery that he came to buy snacks for his daughter was mentioned by Date and Rei before Matsuda empasized that Tomori is the culrpit. In the anime, the statement was said by Tomori himself in flashback, and is mentioned after they know Tomori's motive for killing Hiro's parents.
