Just after turning into Conan, Shinichi goes to live with Ran's father Kogoro who just received a call for a client since he's a private detective. Arrived there, Tani, the house owner, informs them that his daughter has been kidnapped and, with some clues, Conan is able to find the truth by exposing Asao, the butler, as the culprit since the dog, Jumbo, didn't bark after strangers because the kidnapper was someone he knew. Also, Asao didn't kidnap the girl but faked it so the Tani could realize how much his daughter was important to him. Unluckily, the daughter is really kidnapped by someone else and Conan uses Jumbo to arrive at the kidnapper's hideout. The kidnapper subdued Jumbo, who decided to use Akiko's shoes to come back to the house and convince the others of following him to the hideout which saved Akiko.
