<spoiler>Everyone had HUGE reasons to be angry at Michi Uemori, since she crapped on each one big time. Mrs. Yashiro, because 30 years ago Uemori stole her then-boyfriend and married him without any regards to their long-time friendship; Kaoru, because Uemori's son Tatsuhiko was an abusive husband (in fact, her eyepatch covered a black eye he just gave her during a fight) and Uemori kept backing him up; Yuko, because Uemori stole all of her original recipes to make them pass as her own in her next cooking book; Nishitani, because Uemori refused to sponsor him and favored someone else, thus seriously damaging his dream to open his own restaurant. The killer was actually '''Hiroaki Nishitani'''... but not for her lack of support, but because he was in love with Yuko and wanted to avenge how Uemori ruined the career of the girl he liked.

The murder weapon was a very thin sewing needle, which Nishitani hid in his fountain pen. When he had excused himself to go to the bathroom he set up a block of ice under the breaker, along with a wire attached to a ring and large weight. When the ice melted, the weight would go down and as a result would pull the wire connected to the ring on the breaker switch. He also put on special contact lenses, tinted contact lenses that kept his pupils shielded from the light.
 +

 +
Once the trick to turn off the lights had darkened the entire house, he opened the back door, removed his contact lenses and was able to make out just enough to take out the sewing needle and swiftly pierce Uemori's lung with it, knowing that due to her respiratory problems she would soon die. To not harm his fingers, he used his ring to push the needle further, and then took it out pulling the string tied to it, using as a makeshift thimble; this was easily seen when it turned out Nishitani was the only person among the suspects wearing a ring on his fingers.

+
As evidence the contact lenses he used were found in his mixing bowl, as well as the sewing needle in his ink pen. He confesses and states that he did not do this for himself, but for the girl he loved. Uemori had stolen Yuko’s recipes and passed them off as her own, this made him furious as he was alright with being the victim but when it came to the girl he loved that’s were he drew the line.

During the resolution, Conan actually makes a mistake that no one notices. When he's going through the process of how Nishitani is the killer (speaking with his bow-tie), he mentioned how Nishitani mistook Ran for Yuuko in the corridor when she went to the toilet but Mouri stayed in the kitchen. There was no way for him to know/remember something he did not witness and so clearly the only other person who knew that was little Conan.</spoiler>
+
However, Yuko reveals that she didn’t care that Uemori stole her recipes, as she had intended to open a restaurant together with Nishitani and leave behind the vicious Uemori once and for all. Hearing this he realizes the mistake he’s made and breaks down.</spoiler>
