Plot

A smiling Yusaku Kudo stands before Conan at the door of his house, even though his father is actually lying flat at home with food poisoning. The Yusaku at the door finds Conan's reception rather underwhelming, saying that he had gone to the trouble of coming to help the famous Yusaku Kudo in his plight, because he has dispelled the false accusations against him. From these words, Conan deduces that this Yusaku must be Kaitou Kid, whereupon the Kid grins. The Kid turns and leaves, since from his face, Conan does not seem to want his help, but Conan quickly says that if the Kid wants to pay his debt, he will not stop him. The TV crew are due to arrive in ten minutes, so Conan wants to give Kid a quick overview of the case.

Conan summarizes the circumstances of the first murder of Atsumi Morita for Kid and shows him the photos. When Conan asks Kid if he notices anything, he just says that even though Morita had short hair, there's a hair clip in her bathroom, but the latter did not notice anything else. Annoyed, Conan asks if Kid's deducting skills might be a little rusty, to which Kid replies, equally annoyed, that they should move on to the next victim. After summarizing the circumstances of the murder of Taiji Kiryuu, Kid, like Conan before him, notices that the messy garbage bags were obviously placed in front of the door on purpose because the rest of the room is otherwise very tidy. Kid also notices the picture of the victim with a figure of Lock, a character from the game Dungeon Holmes. Apart from that, Kid only notices that the disposable chopsticks in the entrance area are upside down in their packaging and that the packaging itself has a strange dent at the bottom. Annoyed, Conan asks if that's all, to which the Kid replies, equally annoyed, that he is a thief and not a detective.

The doorbell rings and the TV crew is there. Conan decides that they will talk through the third victim later and have to deal with the TV crew first. Conan also warns the Kid not to pull any unnecessary stunts. At the front door, the two greet presenter Saiko Yumekawa and her camera crew. "Yusaku" flirts with Yumekawa and starts to kiss her hand, but Conan stops him by stomping on his foot. The TV crew move into the study, where they prepare everything for the broadcast. Conan introduces himself to Yumekawa as the "Kid Killer" and quickly explains to Yumekawa that Yukiko is currently sick before both return to explaining the case in an adjoining room before the camera test.

Conan summarizes the circumstances of Koretsugu Kanzawa's murder for Kid. Looking at the pictures, Kid notices that while Morita and Kiryuu had filled bags next to the door, Kanzawa's black pan stands out, as all the other pots and pans in the house are silver. In eager anticipation, Conan asks the Kid to continue, but the Kid had already finished his remarks. Annoyed, Conan asks why Kid still cannot solve the case after all these observations, to which Kid replies, just as annoyed, that it does not matter because Conan has already solved the case anyway and should finally tell him the trick and the culprit. Conan is just about to start when the TV crew calls for the camera test. Kid puts an earpiece in his ear so that Conan can whisper things into his ear with the Detective Badge and he can just repeat what Conan says verbatim.

A little later, the live broadcast is in full swing, and Ran and Kogoro are also sitting at their home in front of the TV. Ran says that Conan said he was going to stay over at the professor's tonight and wonders if Conan might be watching the whole thing on location. At the Kudo residence, Yumekawa starts the show and asks "Yusaku" if there really is only one culprit behind all three murders, since the modus operandi was different for all three crimes and nothing seemed to link all three victims together. Kid replies that there is indeed only one culprit, per Conan's instructions. The connection between the victims is the game Dungeon Holmes, to which all three victims have accessories relating to ; Kanzawa's watch with a magnifying glass pattern, Kiryuu's figurine of the main character of the series, and Morita's hand towel which had the logo of the game embroidered on it. Saiko pretends not to know anything about the game, but she herself is wearing a wristwatch behind her back, which is Dungeon Holmes merchandise, as "Yusaku"/Conan has not failed to notice. After "Yusaku" tells her that, she grows hesitant, saying that the watch was a gift from Morita, who is a good friend of hers, but prompted by Conan, "Yusaku" reveals that Saiko Yumekawa herself is the culprit, shocking the announcer herself and the whole crew, as well as Kid disguised as "Yusaku", who looks back at Conan, whose face shows he has already solved it all.
