Retirement from Detective Conan

It was announced on September 18th, 2009, on Kamiya's blog that due to problems with his contract, he will no longer provide the voice of Kogoro Mouri. He gave a sincere apology to the directors, writers, Gosho Aoyama, his co-stars (he specifically mentioned Minami Takayama, Wakana Yamazaki, and Kenichi Ogata), Yomiuri Television, Shogakukan, and his fans for the sudden turn of events.[1] Though in his blog he implied he "lost his trust" in the production company, the next day he erased the contents of his blog.[2] Starting with episode 553, Rikiya Koyama took over the role of Kogoro Mouri.[3]

Trivia

  • Kamiya and Hideyuki Tanaka (voice of Yusaku Kudo) have appeared in many anime together as characters who are connected in some way, such as Dokaben (Yamada and Satoru), Kinnikuman (Kinnikuman and Terryman), Fist of the North Star 2 (Kenshiro and Falco), and City Hunter (Ryo Saeba and Makimura). They have also both dubbed over Pierce Brosnan as James Bond.
  • Kamiya and Toshio Furukawa (voice of Misao Yamamura) have appeared as rivals in other animes on three notable occasions: Urusei Yatsura (Mendo and Ataru), Fist of the North Star (Kenshiro and Shin), and Dragon Ball Z (Garlic Jr. and Piccolo). They have also both played the character Kinnikuman (Furukawa voiced him in the sequel Kinnikuman Nisei) and Furukawa voiced the character Shigeru Sakamoto in Space Battleship Yamato, the character who replaced Kamiya's Saburo Kato.
