After telling her he missed her, he has to leave again. As soon as he's gone, the lights come back on, and Ran receives a gift. Although she's happy, she doesn't give up the search for Shinichi.

Conan changes the subject and asks Inspector Megure to examine her jacket. Contrary to Mari's expectations, the inspector wasn't looking for poison, but instead found the crucial piece of evidence: Tatsuya's lighter in his jacket pocket. Mari had indeed changed her jacket shortly before the murder, meaning Tatsuya was wearing Mari's poisoned jacket.

			They find Mari's motive in the old band photo: Conan explains that Mari is in it, which Inspector Megure finds hard to believe. Mari confirms that she underwent facial surgery for Tatsuya. She had loved him for a long time, and after Go's band broke up, he asked her to be his new band's manager. Mari believed that Tatsuya also had feelings for her and wanted to be the best possible partner for him during his career.

			However, after her surgery, Tatsuya treated Mari badly and insulted her. She's therefore convinced that Tatsuya only used her and couldn't forgive him. Conan has to explain the opposite to her. Go also knew Tatsuya's true feelings for Mari and gave her the photo, on the back of which were the lyrics to his debut solo single. It was a declaration of love to the real Mari. He hadn't been able to express his true feelings and blamed himself for the surgery she had to undergo because of him.

			Mari finally bursts into tears and calls in vain for Tatsuya.
