Conan and Heiji deduce that he was "sucked dry", and Ran and Kazuha think that he was absorbed by the flaming skulls, but Conan and Heiji correct them, saying that with the duct tape marks on his mouth and the dried skin, he was probably left to starve, but no flaming skulls would put duct tape on someone. Conan then receives a message, which is the picture Kogoro tried to send earlier. On the other side of the temple porch, Ran is crying that she cannot find her father, and Kazuha comforts her, when a determined-looking Heiji arrives and asks Kazuha for her tablet. Kazuha then realizes that Heiji is about to solve the case and assures Ran that the case is about to come to a close.
