Later on, he joined the [[wikipedia:Kumo Theater Company|Kumo Theater Company]] and then the [[wikipedia:ja:演劇集団円|En Theater Company]]<ref name="A"/>. He thus started acting in traditional western plays, as well as TV Dramas.

In the 1980s, Sako started dubbing foreign movies and anime, and took on most of the roles of [[wikipedia:Gary Oldman|Gary Oldman]]. He changed his stage-name for 佐古雅誉 (same reading), but changed it back<ref>声優事典第二版, キネマ旬報社, 1996, 126 pages, ISBN 4-87376-160-3.</ref>. In July 2000, he developed tongue cancer, and had to cancel all his acting plans.
