== Biography ==
A veteran of the animation industry, Hiroyuki Okuno was born in Osaka Prefecture's southern region (former Izumi Province)<ref name="A">[https://x.com/hiro1225okuno Twitter Profile]</ref>. Prior to 1981, he moved to Tokyo to become an animator and joined [[wikipedia:ja:中村プロダクション|Nakamura Production]]<ref name="Atwiki">https://w.atwiki.jp/sakuga/pages/242.html</ref>. Since at least 2013, he lives in Nerima, Tokyo<ref name="A"/>. Okuno first started as an in-between animator in 1981, credited in the 41st episode of [[wikipedia:Jarinko Chie|Jarinko Chie]], which aired in September<ref name="Atwiki"/>. In July 1983, he was credited for the first time as key animation, in anime series [[wikipedia:Armored Trooper VOTOMS|Armored Trooper VOTOMS]]<ref name="Atwiki"/>. His breakthrough as animation director came in 1991 when he worked on the OVA adaptation of [[wikipedia:Sukeban Deka|Sukeban Deka]]<ref name="Atwiki"/>. Between 1990 and 1995, he was part of [[Studio Katan]] (スタジオかぁたん), where he worked with many now renown animators like [[wikipedia:ja:平松禎史|Tadashi Hiramatsu]], [[wikipedia:ja:宮崎なぎさ|Nagisa Miyazaki]] and [[wikipedia:ja:毛利和昭|Kazuaki Mouri]]<ref name="Atwiki"/>. He eventually left Nakamura Production, but remained on good terms with the company, by notably bringing in retired animator Akira Nakamura (中村旭良) from Nakamura Production to work on his OVA adaptation of adult manga ''[[wikipedia:ja:初夜 (漫画)|Virgin Night]]'', which Okuno directed in 2001<ref name="Atwiki"/>. He is close friends with fellow animator [[wikipedia:ja:森久司|Hisashi Mori]] (né Nakayama) who was affiliated some time with Nakamura Production<ref name="Atwiki"/>. His drawing is similar to Mori's, with few shading and bold forms, although Okuno's style is more refined compared to Mori's<ref name="Atwiki"/>. Since 2025, he is affiliated with [[Studio Lings]]<ref name="Atwiki"/>.

Okuno's first stint with [[Gosho Aoyama]]'s works came in 1993, when he became key animation for the [[Special Attack Whirlwind Sword|5th episode]] of the [[Kenyuu Densetsu Yaiba|anime adaptation]] of Aoyama's first major manga [[Yaiba]]. He was active for two more episodes. In ''[[Detective Conan]]'', he was first active when he worked as key animation of the 5th movie [[Countdown to Heaven]] in 2001. He returned in early 2025, becoming episode director when the first part of [[The Yamahime of Yakushima]] was outsourced to [[Studio Lings]], which he is a part of. He returned again in March 2026 as episode director for [[episode 1192]], again outsourced to Lings.
