==Background==
Scotch was an undercover member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Public Security Bureau inside the [[Black Organization]]. Not much has been revealed about his past and his time inside the organization, although he was acquainted with [[Rei Furuya]] (another undercover agent from the same organization) as well as [[Shuichi Akai]] (an undercover FBI agent using the alias Dai Moroboshi). Scotch was killed before his real name was revealed to the other black organization members.

Scotch was first mentioned in Manga file 898. During [[Rei Furuya|Bourbon]] and [[Vermouth]]'s conversation, she mentions a male infiltrator from the Secret Police who had been killed before they could figure out his name. Bourbon tells her that his code name was "Scotch".

[[Masumi Sera|Masumi]] has a flashback to 4 years ago where she saw her brother [[Shuichi Akai|Shuichi]] on a train platform with another man. At that time, Masumi thought that Shuichi was supposed to be in America so she approached them. Shuichi told her to go away but she made the excuse that she did not have the money to get home. While Shuichi went to go buy her a ticket, the other man pulled a guitar out of the case on his back and taught her some notes. Before Shuichi returned, a third man that looks like [[Rei Furuya]] came over and called the other man "Scotch". Masumi believed this to be a nickname rather than an indication of his race because the man looked very Japanese.



==Speculation==
It is speculated that Scotch was someone close to his fellow Secret Police agent [[Rei Furuya]] (Bourbon), and Shuichi Akai might have been responsible for the former's death, resulting in Rei's deep grudge against Shuichi.

[[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] asks [[Ai Haibara|Haibara]] about [[Rum]]. She tells him that she has never met Rum in person, but has heard of his characteristics from other members. His description differs from person to person depending on who told the story.

Some said that he is a '''strong-built man.''' Some also said that he looks '''feminine.''' Others said that he is an '''old man.''' It is also possible that all of them were just body substitutes. Haibara also says that there is one characteristic about Rum that all the members who have met him can agree on, but she cannot remember it yet.

They then encounter a murder case where all three suspects happen to have characteristics like Rum's: a strong-built man, a feminine-looking man, and an old man.

[[Jodie Starling|Jodie]] and [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] arrive at [[Andre Camel|Camel]]'s side to find out the Jodie that Camel talked with was [[Vermouth]] in disguise. Conan deduces [[Bourbon]]'s plan and explains: [[Bourbon]] used Shibuya-sensei's phone to send a message to Jodie hence she didn't remember sending it. Bourbon deduces that Jodie' phone will run out of battery by night and makes sure that she uses her FBI colleague's cellphone to call back. When anything happens to Shibuya-sensei, Jodie and her colleague (Camel) will be called to the crime scene. This allows Vermouth to copy Jodie's dress and identify Camel. Vermouth then makes a fake-call to the school to lure them to the hospital, having Bourbon pressure Camel, so when his ally Jodie comes to him (Vermouth in disguise), he lets his guard down and tells her the truth about [[Rikumichi Kusuda]]'s death.

Vermouth reunites with Bourbon and tells him the information: [[Rikumichi Kusuda]] shot himself in his car. Bourbon is pleased with this, which confirms his theory that [[Shuichi Akai]] is still alive. Vermouth disagrees with him, saying that Akai's conversation with [[Kir]] before his death wasn't be an act. With this Bourbon figures out the true meaning of that sentence, and sets of to find this "ghost" that is Shuichi Akai.

After a while, Conan is absent from school due to a cold, though [[Ai Haibara|Haibara]] believes something is actually going on. [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]] also reveals to [[Ran Mouri|Ran]] that Conan won't be home to watch "Macademy award" with her but will stay at [[Hiroshi Agasa|Agasa]]'s house. [[Yusaku Kudo]] is nominated for best script award and is expected to be in the ceremony. At Kudo house, [[Subaru Okiya]] is watching the ceremony but a delivery service interrupts him. He opens the door to meet Bourbon, who claims they didn't meet for the first time.

===File 895 - Scarlet Interrogation===

[[Subaru Okiya|Okiya]] allows [[Tooru Amuro|Amuro]] in, but refuse to let a group of Amuro's "friends" outside to come in too. Amuro starts telling a detective story which explain how [[Shuichi Akai|Akai]] could [[Akai faked his death theory|fake his death]] with help from [[Kir]] and [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] as the mastermind. [[Jodie Starling|Jodie]] who riding with [[Andre Camel|Camel]] to Raiha Pass also come to the same conclusion based on her set of information. She also cast suspicion on Okiya who uses similar phrase to Akai, of being Akai in disguise. Camel then needs to speed up to shakes off a group of cars chasing them. Amuro concludes that Okiya is Akai, forcing him to answer by threatening that Jodie and Camel are cornered by his "friends".

===File 896 - Scarlet Return===

[[Tooru Amuro|Amuro]] asks [[Subaru Okiya|Okiya]] to take his mask off, which he did. Amuro is not satisfied, and says Okiya should drop the whole disguise. Amuro points out that there're video cameras set around the house to observe them. Okiya is confused, and asks if his appearance or voice matches those of [[Shuichi Akai]]'s. Amuro says appearance can be deceiving, voice can be change by wearing a neck-shaped-voice-changer. He then removes Okiya's high collar but found nothing. He then receives a call from his colleagues.

[[Andre Camel|Camel]] shows off his driving skill to avoid a roadblock, but damages his tire in the process. [[Jodie Starling|Jodie]] thinks the one after them are Amuro's colleagues, try to captures them to lure Akai into a trap. She mentally asks Akai for help. Akai then shows up in the back seat and orders Camel to open the car deck, alert the cars following of his presence, who report it to Amuro.

At the same time, [[Yusaku Kudo|Yusaku]]'s name is announce for the winner of best script award. He goes to the stage to receive it. The ceremony is live-broadcasting which Okiya and [[Ran Mouri|Ran]] watching separately at their houses. [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] is manning a group of tv screens and computers, a microphone and his [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]].

===File 897 - Scarlet Truth===

[[Shuichi Akai|Akai]] has [[Andre Camel|Camel]] drives straight and steady, allows him to shoot the following car's tire, disrupt their pursuit. But Akai orders Camel to turn back to [[Tooru Amuro|Amuro]]'s colleagues and asks for a phone to calls Amuro.
Akai says he worked out Amuro's identity and asks him to stop hunting him (Akai). Amuro agrees to retreat from Kudo house. [[Subaru Okiya|Okiya]] goes upstairs to talks to [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]]. The following event explain that...

[[Shuichi Akai]] is alive, and has been disguising as [[Subaru Okiya]]. However, in this confrontation, [[Yusaku Kudo]] stands in for him and used the voice-changing cold mask Haibara used when Conan was Shinichi for a time.

[[Yukiko Kudo]] disguises as [[Yusaku Kudo]] at the Macadamy award to allow for the trick to succeed.

[[Tooru Amuro]]'s real name is [[Rei Furuya]]. He is a member of Japan's secret police infiltrating the [[Black Organization]]. His colleagues in this case also come from the same agency. This means he will not expose Akai's survival nor Kir's infiltration.

[[Shuichi Akai|Akai]]'s and [[Tooru Amuro|Amuro]]'s hostility come from an incident involving an unspecified man, about whom Akai says he regrets.

[[Yukiko Kudo|Yukiko]] helps disguise [[Shuichi Akai|Akai]] back to [[Subaru Okiya|Okiya]] again. Okiya then explains his past movement to [[Jodie Starling|Jodie]] and [[Andre Camel|Camel]]. He used [[Hiroshi Agasa|Agasa]]-made voice-changer. [[James Black]] knows about his fake-death plan because James caught him with glue on his hand. He didn't tell the plan to the rest of the [[FBI]] because "to trick one's enemies, one need to trick friends." (Proven true because [[Tooru Amuro|Bourbon]] did try to get reaction from Jodie and Camel.) He also expected Bourbon to come after him after his appearance on the Bell Tree Express, but didn't expect Bourbon to bring his colleagues from the secret police. (But [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] expected this.) He then concludes that Bourbon's hatred for him was deeper than he had thought.

Yukiko leaves to catch her flight. [[Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya|Mitsuhiko]], [[Genta Kojima|Genta]] and [[Ayumi Yoshida|Ayumi]] arrive to ask Okiya for the solution of the trick that Agasa set for them. After Okiya explains the trick, he informs Jodie and Camel that [[Hidemi Hondou|Kir]] had sent a message to him, "[[Rum]]" which means that another [[Black Organization]] operative, one that's more important than [[Gin]], the [[boss]]'s right-hand man, is now on the move.

Elsewhere, Bourbon lies to [[Vermouth]] that his theory about Akai was wrong, and Akai is dead. He suggests that she continues to cooperate with him in his future missions, threatening to reveal her secret relationship with the boss that could surprise the rest of the organization. They also talk about how Gin is on guard against spies because he encountered 3 of them in quick succession: Akai, [[Ethan Hondou]] and [[Scotch]], a spy who was killed before his true name was discovered. He comes from the secret police, the same organization as [[Tooru Amuro|Furuya Rei]]'s.

==Shogi Tournament==

[[Shukichi Haneda]] is competing in a [[wikipedia:Shogi|Shogi]] match in Yamanashi province to win his 7th Shogi title which will earns him the title [[wikipedia:Meijin_(shogi)|Meijin]]. A message is sends to him, threatens him that [[Yumi Miyamoto]] is in his (the culprit) hand. To save her, Shukichi rushs to Tokyo in break-time and run into [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]], the [[Detective Boys]], and [[Hiroshi Agasa|Agasa]] at a shrine.

Conan, on the other hand, is called by [[Masumi Sera|Sera]], invites him to visit. Conan refuses, because he is on his way to visit the shrine where he eventually runs into Shukichi Haneda.

===File 900 - Check===

[[Shukichi Haneda]], the [[Detective Boys]], and [[Hiroshi Agasa|Agasa]] are still searching for [[Yumi Miyamoto|Yumi]]'s whereabouts through the culprit's clues. A flashback showed how Shukichi and Yumi have met. The culprit is playing [[wikipedia:Shogi|Shogi]] with himself, with Yumi lies near him, bounded and unconscious.

===File 901 - The Forbidden Move===
[[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] deduces the location of the culprit and [[Yumi Miyamoto|Yumi]]. The [[Unknown child]] fall asleep watching the [[wikipedia:Shogi|Shogi]] match.

===File 902 - A Brilliant Move===
<spoiler> [[Shukichi Haneda|Shukichi]] and the group confront the culprit at the hotel [[Masumi Sera|Sera]] is staying. The culprit once lose a Shogi match to Shukichi due to rule technicality, and believe he could win the match, game-play-wise. Shukichi proves that the culprit overestimates himself and he will indeed lose, and he surrenders to the police.

[[Yumi Miyamoto|Yumi]] kisses Shukichi as a good luck charm after waking up. He returns to Yamanashi in time to win his 7th [[wikipedia:Shogi|Shogi]] title. Yumi is still unaware of Shukichi's real profession.

The [[Unknown child]] is happy at the result of the Shogi match. [[Subaru Okiya]] also interests in an article about Shukichi winning all seven crowns. </spoiler>

===File 903 - The Corpse in The Pool===

[[Masumi Sera]] and the [[unknown child]] are waiting for [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] to visits them in their hotel room. The unknown child expresses her concern of trusting Conan, even though she thinks he is bright enough. They want to meet him alone but [[Ran Mouri|Ran]] and [[Sonoko Suzuki|Sonoko]] come along, hoping to swimming in the hotel's pool. Any plan to talk with Conan is put on hold and Sera follows Conan's group to the pool.

At the pool, they met an acquaintance of Sonoko who work as a secretary for the company owning the hotel. With him, his fiance, the company president's daughter, her step sister and the hotel manager.

The company president's daughter lost her necklace so she orders the pool closed and bring out snorkeling gears for her group. The other three help her to find it but fail. The president's daughter then asks for diving cylinder and chases the other away, intend to find it by herself. Later, the president's daughter went missing and her body is found in the pool. The secretary and the manager jump in to help her. The manager steps on a piece of glass in the process.

===File 904 - Sinking Shards of Glass===

[[Juzo Megure|Inspector Megure]] and [[Wataru Takagi|Detective Takagi]] arrive at the scene to investigate the murder. The victim cause of death is drowning, and she died between noon and 1 p.m.

The receptionist's and the 3 suspects testimonies reveal that each suspect took turns to visit the victim alone when she searching, but only the manager claim to found her. In order, the manager at 12:05. the fiance after him, and the sister, who come back and ask the reception for time, 12:54.

[[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] and [[Masumi Sera|Sera]] deduce that the glass shards were part of an aquarium from its shapes. They also found fishing line on the grate cover the pool's drain, and a hook above it. The bell boys mention having heard weird noise and saw big bubbles forming in the water.

She chased after him while calling out to him, but he turned down an alley without responding. [[James Black]], not aware of the mysterious man's appearance, stopped Jodie from following after Scar Akai. Jodie assumes she saw a lookalike and, still upset, visits Teito bank. The bank is then hijacked by robbers who round up everyone. Jodie discovers that Scar Akai is sitting next to her. She tries to talk to him, saying his name, but he doesn't acknowledge that he even heard her. She assumes he has amnesia and cannot speak. As the bank heist progresses, Jodie is knocked out and [[Conan]] and the [[Detective Boys]] design and execute a ploy to trick the bank robbers and rescue the hostages they plan on blowing up. In the confusion, Conan is grabbed and about to be killed by one of the vengeful robbers. Scar Akai rescues Conan by shooting the robber in the shoulder. Scar Akai vanishes after the case, Conan never being aware of his presence, although it is later discovered that Scar Akai caught on tape by reporters. In the meanwhile, Jodie has tracked down the maker of the hat Scar Akai has worn to the Beika Department Store and she questions the sales clerks if someone matching Scar Akai's description had bought a hat recently. While [[Andre Camel]] is in the bathroom, he sees Scar Akai pass behind him. Camel rushes from the bathroom, but Scar Akai is nowhere to be seen.

Scar Akai, along with [[Subaru Okiya]] and Conan, is then trapped on one of the department store floors by a bomber demanding to find the sender of thirteen red shirts. Meanwhile the [[Black Organization]] has heard that someone who looks like Akai appeared at the department store. [[Gin]] and [[Vodka]] park outside the department store with the snipers [[Chianti]] and [[Korn]] to wait for Scar Akai. Gin holds a gun to [[Kir]]'s head explaining that if Akai is alive, he will kill her.

Conan tranquilizes [[Kogoro Mouri]] to begin his deduction show just as Kogoro receives a text message containing a mostly complete solution to the case. Wanting to know who else deduced the solution, Conan and Ran trace the text to a man who reveals Scar Akai had "found his phone" and must have sent it. Conan is astonished and anxiously attempts to catch up to Scar Akai, but Conan is stopped by Jodie and Camel who tell him they also saw Scar Akai. Andre reveals the Black Organization are waiting outside with a sniper. Jodie rushes after Scar Akai to stop him from being killed, but is prevented from reaching him by Okiya who knocks her over.

Scar Akai leaves the store and walks into Chianti's scope. She informs Gin who also sees Scar Akai. Before Gin can order Chianti to shoot, Vermouth appears and speaks with Gin about a plan that she received the boss's authorization for. Scar Akai spots Chianti and smirks at her. She loses her aim and Scar Akai disappears into the rushing crowd which Conan had stirred up. Gin lowers his gun from Kir's head and decides to drop the assassination, commenting how Bourbon always likes to do what he pleases.

She chases after him, but he slips out of sight. Ran asks Sera what happened, and Sera replies she thought she saw someone she knew, but then mentally adds there is no way that is possible. Hidden out of sight around a corner, Scar Akai watches Sera talk to Ran silently.

Scar Akai appears on the Bell Train that the Conan and his friends have boarded. When Haibara passes him by, she senses the Black Organization vibe from him.

Later, as Scar Akai walks in the hall, he passes by a mysterious woman who had been seen with Subaru Okiya earlier, and she says something to Scar Akai as he passes. Right after that, Masumi Sera finally comes face-to-face with Scar Akai. She demands to know who he is. Scar Akai says, "You haven't changed at all, Masumi," He lifts his face up so Sera gets a clear look. Startled, Sera utters, "Shuu-nii" (-nii is the honorific used to address older brothers). She then begins to ask Scar Akai the reason why he was there, since she heard that Shuichi Akai died. Before she can say anything else, Scar Akai knocks her out with a stun gun, commenting that Sera's response was the one he hoped for. Scar Akai then mails someone that he had "removed the obstacle, so the rest should go as planned" and grins. Scar Akai then goes to check the passenger list while the attendant was away, but he is spotted with the list when the attendent returns. Scar Akai gives the excuse that he thought he saw an old acquaintance on the train. He looks back at the attendant's chair, and a canister of some sort hidden in the shadows beneath it. Afterwards, Scar Akai goes to the mysterious woman's cabin and throws her suitcase out of the window. As it flew out, the woman enters the room and reveals herself to be Yukiko Kudo. Scar Akai then rips off his mask, revealing himself to be Vermouth.

When Amuro confronts Shiho Miyano. He explains to her that he has been disguises as Scar Akai to judge the reactions from people close to Akai whether he's dead or not. He only has Vermouth disguises in place of him in Bell Tree Express case.

*Scar Akai is right handed, not left handed like Akai. Scar Akai used his right hand to fire a handgun, to hold his umbrella and to hand back a cellphone.

Because the fire obscured the body of the man who was supposed to be Akai, only three groups knew Akai was dead, Conan and his allies, the FBI, and the Black Organization. Neither Conan's allies or the FBI would want to have someone disguise as Akai and risk having Hidemi Hondou rejected and killed by the Organization after all the work they did to reintroduce her. Meanwhile Bourbon didn't believe Akai is dead and didn't trust Kir, so he has a motive to concoct a plan to try to determine if the real Akai was alive regardless of Kir's wellbeing.
*Scar Akai only targeted or only appeared in front of people who were close to Akai and might have helped fake his death. This was so Scar Akai could gauge from these people's reactions to the scarred Akai disguise whether they know the real Akai survived. The FBI agents Scar Akai has appeared in front of, Jodie and Camel, were known to be close to Akai and thus would be considered likely compatriots if Akai needed help faking his death. Masumi Sera was Akai's sister. Given the circumstances of Akai's death, Bourbon must also suspect Kir is a spy and was in on the plan. In light of this, it makes sense that Scar Akai would know Kogoro's cellphone number; Kogoro texted Kir after the Ding Dong Dash case, and Bourbon got Kogoro's number from Kir's cellphone which was left in Gin's Porsche when the FBI mistakenly intercepted her. Amuro later directly targeted Kogoro by becoming his apprentice.
*Scar Akai appeared in highly public places, which would put civilians at risk if someone tried to attack him. In the Beika department store bombing case, the Black Organization had set up snipers aiming into a crowd of people hoping to get who they mistakenly thought was Akai. The real Akai would have avoided trying to meet the FBI in locations where the Black Organization might threaten civilians.
*When Bourbon was the one disguise, Scar Akai avoided speaking in front of anyone who would know Akai's real voice. == Personality ==
Amuro has a cheerful personality. He is also generous, bringing a plate of sandwiches for the detective agency bought with his money. In more serious situations, he seems to be patient, keeping calm even while even while others are abusing him. Although somewhat of a "cool type", he does not hide his emotions and is quite expressive. Like other detectives in [[Detective Conan]], he enjoys presenting his deductions about cases to others. He is also manipulative, tricking others into performing certain actions so he can gather information. Kogoro calls him "effeminate".

[[Gin]] says Bourbon has a secretive personality like [[Vermouth]], and that no one can ever guess what he's up to or what he will do.<ref name=703p3/> [[Vodka]] says that Bourbon hates Shuichi Akai even more than Gin does, although a reason for this hatred is not given.<ref name=703p3/> Bourbon believes he is the only person capable of killing Akai.<ref name=703p3/> Gin said that if Bourbon found out Akai was alive, he would surely boast that his suspicion was correct.<ref name=703p3/> Gin and Bourbon probably don't get along and they don't seem to communicate with one another.<ref name=703p3/>

Originally Kir said that Bourbon's target was the escaped scientist [[Shiho Miyano]]. Another possibility is that Bourbon's mission was to investigate Akai's death to make sure there were no tricks. Amuro is hired by to-be-bride Hatsune Kamon to investigate whether her to-be-husband, Raita Banba, is cheating on her. As part of the investigation, Amuro tells Kamon to have their pre-wedding celebration at the restaurant, Ristorante Sundayrino, where he works as a waiter. He purposefully drops some cake on Banba's pants trying to make Banba too embarrassed to approach women later. Banba complains about Amuro's "mistake", but Kamon tells Amuro it's alright to protect him. Banba later gets drunk, and Amuro has to point out his phone is ringing. Banba goes to the bathroom to meet the person who called him, the detective Sanji Haruka, who Banba hired to find out if Kamon was cheating on him. Sanji had been following the wife and discovered her meeting with Amuro, so Sanji mistakenly reports Kamon is having an affair with Amuro. Sanji confirms Amuro has a matching voice by asking Amuro to repeat his order, a bourbon on the rocks.

Banba is furious at Amuro and begins to harass him; like shouldering him and knocking Amuro over in front of the other waiters. Later Kamon dies in a car fire that is ruled an arson, and Banba accuses Amuro of starting it because he is Kamon's lover. Amuro denies this and says that Banba may have been trying to disguise wounds he received while fighting with Kamon by tripping Amuro. Amuro then takes off his glasses and reveals himself to be a private detective hired by Kamon, not her lover.

After Amuro correctly gives his deduction that Sanji was a detective hired by Banba, Kogoro accuses Amuro of driving Kamon to suicide by telling her about her husband's shameless flirting, but Amuro denies contacting Kamon by phone. Amuro accuses Banba of being the murderer, which antagonizes Banba into to rushing him. Amuro dodges and trips Banba and asks Kogoro to hold Banba's legs. From the condition of the bottom of Banba's shoes and Amuro's detailed background investigation of Banba and Kamon, [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] is able to deduce that Kamon's death was really a suicide. Amuro continues to accuse Banba after more DNA evidence comes in, but Conan prevents his arrest by using [[Kogoro#Detective_Skills|Sleeping Kogoro]] to ask Banba a critical question that reveals he never stepped outside. Amuro challenges Kogoro's deduction, suggesting that maybe Banba used a [[Shuichi Akai|knit cap]] and [[Scar Akai|long windbreaker]] to disguise himself, but Sleeping Kogoro counters by pointing out the condition of Banba's shoes. Defeated, Amuro demands Kogoro explain the matching DNA, which he does, revealing that Kamon and Banba are identical twins, but Kamon had a chromosomal abnormality that resulted in her being phenotypically female. Humbled, Amuro explains the abnormality condition to those present which [[Juzo Megure|Inspector Megure]] confirms.

One day later, Amuro has started work as a waiter at [[Setting#Cafe_Poirot|Café Poirot]] below [[Setting#The_Mouri_Detective_Agency|Mouri Detective Agency]]. He asks Kogoro if he can be Kogoro's apprentice and whispers some unheard amount of money per case that he is will pay if Kogoro brings Amuro along with him. The amount thrills Kogoro into accepting Amuro's offer immediately. Conan mentally moans about how yet another bothersome person has appeared.

While Kogoro and the gang are watching a news report on a recent bank robbery, Amuro stops by with sandwiches from the Poirot after finishing his part time job for the day. After commenting on the robbery, Amuro reveals that he wants the scoop on Kogoro's newest case request after deducing from Kogoro's appearance and habits that Kogoro had a case. Kogoro gets a text from the client requesting that Kogoro switch the meeting location to the [[Setting#Cafe_Columbo|Café Columbo]], and Amuro goes with them after changing out of his work clothes. At the Columbo, Kogoro explains to Amuro the request was to find the locker a key belongs to. The client fails to show, so Amuro, Kogoro, Conan, and Ran go back to the Detective Agency to make sure the client didn't actually turn up there instead. When Amuro arrives at the agency, he and Conan notice someone had broken in and appeared to have intercepted the client while they were out. Stepping outside, Amuro explains his deductions to the rest of the gang and that the culprit is hiding in the restroom. Before Amuro can open the bathroom door, a gunshot rings out, and Conan rushes in to find a dead man who apparently committed suicide with a gun and a taped-up crying woman. The woman's story is that the now-dead guy was interrogating her about the key and locker and committed suicide when Kogoro returned early, but Amuro and Conan suspect she is lying and may have murdered the man.

Amuro questions the woman a little, and Megure comments to Kogoro about he has yet another detective hanging around him. Curious, Amuro asks about [[Masumi Sera|the other detective]] and hears she is a young girl. Amuro offers to drive the formerly tied up woman to her home after questioning was postponed until the next day. Conan, Ran and Kogoro come along for the ride. At the woman's house, Conan, Amuro, and Kogoro announce they need to use the restroom and go inside. Ran turns on her cellphone and immediately gets a call from Sera, who was worried after seeing the news of the murder. The call is full of static, and Amuro suddenly shuts Ran's phone and announces the place is bugged, which is interfering with the cellphone signal. Amuro gets out a bug detector and begins sweeping the house. Ran, Amuro, and Kogoro find several bugs before coming across a large suitcase under a bed that is emitting a horrible smell. They opened the bugged suitcase and find a corpse inside.

Soon afterwards, it was revealed that the culprit was indeed the woman, who sent Kogoro a message claiming that she was having Conan in her hands. During the investigation, they have found out a video recording summary, which contains many news about the robbery, inside the TV. Amuro then quickly gave out the speculation that the apartment might actually belonged to one of the robbers instead. Ran didn't understand how a detective of such level of intelligence could willingly become her father's apprentice. However, Amuro modestly answered that Kogoro was just testing him, and that he still had got much to learn.

Later, they decided to check up the house's computer, which was protected with password. Amuro discovered that the password was hidden under the desk, but instead of revealing the fact directly, he chose to hint Kogoro and Ran about it. After having gained access to the computer,
they have all found out the identity of the third robber and her location, where Conan's kidnapper would most likely pay a visit. They followed the address and drive to that place, Sera approached them closely from behind. However, while still on the road, they suddenly learned that the third robber had been overwhelming both Conan and the killer, and they were in serious danger. Right after determining the exact car that those three were in, Amuro purposely crashed his own car into theirs in order to stop it. In the end, the robber was defeated by Sera, Conan was safe. Amuro, Sera, Okiya (who was driving Agasa and Haibara to the scene) were all shown to receive a mysterious call. Vermouth called Bourbon and commented that he had gained some trust<ref>It wasn't specified whose trust</ref> and that she expected him to keep his (unstated) promise to her.

=== Off Work (Manga: 801) ===
Amuro has a day off of work. Incidentally, Scar Akai appears in front of Sera.

=== Overnight Deadline (Manga: 804-808) ===
Conan and the [[Detective Boys]] encounter Amuro who was coming from the police station due to the "Online Client" case. He expresses disappointment at not being able to meet Professor Agasa with them. He also states that he had another purpose for coming to the station, but when asked by Conan what it is, Amuro claims that it "already disappeared." Later, when Takagi is still trapped, he reminisces of a time with his mentor Wataru Date and says that he was the top student at the police academy. He rebuts this and says he was number 2 compared to that guy who was like a gentleman. Later it's revealed that that person is Amuro who leaves a toothpick by Date's grave and watches Takagi and Sato pay their respects. Amuro also calls Date "His friend."

===Cabin Trap (Manga: 815-817)===
While Conan and the Detective Boys go camping in Gunma, Ran and Kogoro are being served by Amuro at the Poirot. When Sera calls Ran to ask about Conan, Amuro watches on suspiciously. Later, Amuro furtively sneaks into the empty Mouri Detective Agency and logs onto Kogoro's website using the password Kogoro inadvertently told him in an earlier case. He sees a video sent by someone (Mitsuhiko) that shows [[Shiho Miyano]] rescuing [[Ayumi]] from a cabin fire. He is shocked by her, zooms in on her hand, and notices she is wearing a pass ring for the Bell Tree Express mystery train experience. Amuro then notices that Kogoro's computer was being hacked by someone and began wondering who did it. Amuro passes over information on the video to Vermouth who relayed in to Gin.

===Mystery Train (Manga 818-???)===
Amuro appears on the train where he runs into Ran and the others. When asked what he is doing there, Amuro claims he won his tickets in an online auction and that he coincidentally met Kogoro in the dining cart wher he learned of the case. When Masumi Sera runs off to find Scar Akai (Vermouth), Amuro is seen with his phone out contacting Vermouth that she was heading her way. He then comes when Conan (through Kogoro) starts his deduction on the murder culprit and reavels that three mirror plates were stuffed in a painting which was used for the locked room murder trick. However, after the culprit confesses, Vermouth activated smoke canisters throughtout the train in order to lure Ai Haibara (Who transformed back to Shiho Miyano) out. After that is successful, Amuro introduces himself to her by calling himself Bourbon.

== Hints that Tooru Amuro was Bourbon ==
* The character Tooru Amuro is named after, Amuro Ray, is the mortal enemy of the character [[Shuichi Akai]] is named after, Char Aznable.
* He is a detective and very skilled at information gathering.
* He is male as the codename Bourbon implies. The [[Black Organization]] codename pattern is that hard liquors are used for men's codenames, and [[Hidemi Hondou|Kir]] used a male specific pronoun to refer to Bourbon in the [[Volume_67#Department_Store_Bomber_Case|Department Store Bomber Case]].<ref name=703p3elab>Manga Volume 67, File 7, page 3: "The Truth Amidst the Snowstorm" Kir uses the masculine only term "kare" (彼) to refer to Bourbon instead of a gender neutral term.</ref>

* When Amuro offers Kogoro an unknown "tuition" per case Kogoro brings him on, the amount he offers is enough to get Kogoro excited and accept Amuro as an apprentice without hesitation. This is strange because Amuro would not be expected to have much money because he is young, lacks a formal agency, and works part time at restaurants in one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in.
* The timing of Bourbon's report to [[Vermouth]] about [[Volume_77#Cabin_Trap|Shiho's appearance at Gunma]] suggested Amuro was Bourbon. The other two Bourbon suspects, [[Okiya]] and [[Sera]], both had seen Haibara and were suspicious of her long before Bourbon reported Shiho to Vermouth, but the video from Gunma was the first time Amuro had seen an image of Shiho or Haibara. Okiya had met Haibara in person in his [[Volume_60#Red.2C_White.2C_and_Yellow_Case|first appearance case]] and multiple times afterward. Sera had obtained a picture of Haibara via a reflection from Agasa's glasses in the [[Volume_74#Target_on_Tape|Ayumi kidnapping case]]. Both of them should have reported to Vermouth if they were Bourbon soon after their respective encounters.
*He completely cut off communication with his close friend [[Wataru Date]]. A complete cutoff would not be necessary if Amuro worked for a "good" organization like the FBI. While [[Scar Akai]] was played by Vermouth during the latest appearance on the train, Bourbon may have been Scar Akai during earlier appearances instead. Evidence in favor of Amuro being Scar Akai is:
* In Scar Akai's appearance at the Beika Dept. Store, Amuro was the only known Black Organization operative not seen at the same time time as Scar Akai. Gin began discussing Bourbon with Kir after seeing this Scar Akai. This also exclude Vermouth from being Scar Akai at the time, which mean there're more that one Scar Akai.
* Amuro was absent from his job at the Poirot when Scar Akai appeared outside the detective agency where Sera was walking with Ran. This also notable because this occurred right after Sera and Amuro met and Amuro found out Sera was friends with Ran.
* In Scar Akai's appearances at the Teito Bank case, the Beika Dept Store, and outside Mouri Detective Agency, he never spoke in front of anyone who would know Akai's real voice, suggesting that this Scar Akai could not imitate voices like Vermouth.

* He has the right body size, face shape, and height to disguise as Scar Akai.

==Relationships analysis==
===Wataru Date===
[[Wataru Date]] and Tooru Amuro were best friends in the police academy; Amuro was the topped ranked student, while Date held second place. While Date went on to become an officer, Amuro went somewhere else and fell out of contact with Date for unknown reasons. Date's last text to Amuro asked him where he was and chided Amuro to communicate once in a while. Amuro was shown visiting Date's grave, and likely left a toothpick out of respect for Date; Date used them habitually.

===Shuichi Akai===
Bourbon despises [[Shuichi Akai]] for some unknown reason and believes he is the only one capable of killing him.<ref name=703p3/>

===Vermouth===
[[Vermouth]] and Bourbon seem to be closer to one another than, say, Bourbon and Gin.
