The story follows the adventures of [[Shinichi Kudo]] (also known as Jimmy Kudo in Case Closed), a young detective prodigy who was inadvertently shrunk into a child's body due to a [[APTX 4869|poison]] he was force-fed by members of a [[Black Organization|criminal syndicate]]. Neighbor and family friend [[Hiroshi Agasa|Professor Agasa]] strongly suggested Shinichi hide his identity to prevent them from killing him and the people he cares about, so Shinichi takes the name [[Conan Edogawa]]. He goes to live with his childhood friend [[Ran Mouri]] and her father, [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]], and tries to use Kogoro's detective agency as a way to find the people who shrank him—without letting Ran figure out who he really is.

[[Viz Media]] licensed the manga series under the name for English-language publication in North America and currently has fifty-seven volumes and plans to release fifty-eight and fifty-nine in mid 2016.

S. California's UTB, United Television Broadcasting's free digital television station began to re-broadcast already dubbed Case Closed episodes on August 21st, 2011. The next two-episode block was scheduled for Saturday, August 27th, followed by two more episodes on Sunday, August 28th. The episodes were broadcasted at 6:30 a.m and repeated at 10:30 a.m the same day. A one-episode block also aired at 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays as well.

Incidentally, the catchphrase for [[Masumi Sera]] is 'Case Closed' (whether it's intended as a reference or coincidental is unspecified).

As of 2013, only one Case Closed branded video game was released, which was [[Detective Conan: The Mirage of Remembrance|Case Closed: The Mirapolis Investigation]], which was a Nintendo Wii exclusive title and released only in Japan and Europe. It features the English voice cast from the Anime for the English version, and has minor changes in script. It is so far the only English DC Game.

As of April 2013, Funimation has renewed the Case Closed license "For Future Use". Additionally on April 2nd 2013, Funimation announced Starting April 16th 2013 seasons 1-5 would be made available digitally through many online vendors, starting with iTunes, Playstation Network and Xbox Live. Season 1 will be available April 16th, season 2 and 3 in May, and Season 4 and 5 in June. Movie release dates have not been announced, however a hint shown in the description hints at a possible new season. Each episode will be 99 cents a piece. As of October 2014 at NY Comic Con's Crunchy Roll panel, they announced that "Case Closed" would be added to their roster. Later they began subtitling the Japanese episodes at episode 754. The page for the series uses the Case Closed banner from Funimation. Originally the episodes were posted on Saturdays, a week after they air in Japan, but now they will begin to be posted on Wednesdays. As of March 21, 2016 they have subtitled up to episode 812, they do not subtitle specials or movies.

As of January 2016, English language Netflix began to stream episodes under the title "Case Closed". The page for the series uses the Case Closed banner from Funimation. They obtained the rights to air fifty-two episodes in Japanese with subtitles, from episode 748-799. The show's maturity rating is listed as TV-14.

==Critical reception==

The series has been well received in Japan, with the anime adaptation ranking in the top twenty in [[Magazines#Animage|Animage]]'s polls between 1996 until 2000, where it dropped below the top twenty. In the Japanese TV anime ranking, Detective Conan often ranked the top six. It has even been used as a mascot to promote citizens to follow the law. The English adaption has not been as equally popular as in Japan, and has been criticized for the name changes.

The manga is a huge success and it is continued to be published. It won the prestigious Shogakukan Manga Award for the shōnen category in 2000. Some of its volumes appear on the lists of best-selling manga.

The series is successful in Asia and Europe, where some countries translated most of the episodes and volumes. Due to the high popularity DC is re-broadcasting in many countries after the original premieres.

Although popular in many other countries, Case Closed was not as successful in the US, most likely due to poor advertising, name changes, and script changes. Due to this, the "Case Closed" version was cancelled at only 130 episodes. However, the manga is still released by VIZ media.

Even though Detective Conan is a [[Glossary#Shōnen|Shōnen]], its audience is composed of a substantial proportion of female viewers and readers. The series also seems to attract all ages.

== Background ==
Momiji Ooka is a second-year student from Kyoto High School and a champion of [[Wikipedia:Uta-garuta|Hyakunin Isshu karuta]]. Her family is likely wealthy since she has a butler. Momiji claims [[Heiji Hattori]] 'proposed her when they were little' and thus believes that they will be romantically involved in the future. <ref>Details of the initial movie 21 synopsis provided by a reliable fan translator Yunnie</ref>

She was once part of an elite karuta association called Nagoro-kai. She was the greatest student of the group's founder, Nagoro Shikao. However, after the group was disbanded she joined another association called the Satsuki-kai.

Momiji appears to be an extremely competent detective, as she saw through [[Volume 93#Murder inside Café Poirot Case |a trick]] merely based on a sound she heard in a phone call with her butler, [[Muga Iori]], before Conan, Heiji or Bourbon did. Later, Muga says that her deduction was great as usual, implying that she regularly solves cases and also says that Heiji's great deductive skill was to be expected from the person that Momiji chose as her partner.

Momiji is involved in the plot of [[Movie 21]] which will center around Heiji and Kazuha's romance. She is shown crying in the movie artwork. == Personality==
Momiji has a close personal interest in Heiji's cases as he makes the news. For some reason, she believes Heiji will be her future husband, despite his feelings for [[Kazuha Toyama|Kazuha]]. The trailers for the 21st movie imply that she and Heiji ''did'' meet as children and apparently made a promise.

Momiji is also extremely smart, especially in regards to catching details that others miss. When Muga Iori informed her via phone some details about a case Heiji was working, Momiji actually caught other signals that Muga himself had missed and used them to reach a correct deduction that would greatly help Conan and Heiji. Muga also implies that Momiji engages in her own detective work at times, as she is no stranger to making such deductions.

Momiji seems to be very girlish and fond of taking some degree of care in her appearance. She had pierced ears and small earrings, and her nails are seen painted in intricate patterns. Momiji also has a notably larger bust size than other girls in the series, flustering Heiji in their first meeting in Movie 21, making flat-chested [[Masumi Sera|Masumi]] jealous and baffled when she first sees Momiji, and leading [[Soshi Okita|Okita]] to simply referring to Momiji as "Boobs" in a conversation with [[Ran Mouri|Ran]].<ref>Manga [[Volume 94]], File 3 (1002): "The Auburn Inuyarai"</ref>

===Heiji Hattori===
Momiji and Hattori made a promise years ago which she still remembers which was revealed to be that Heiji proposed to her. She immediately recognized him but Heiji at first didn't. She has a love interest for Heiji and even calls him her "future husband". Because of this, Momiji and Kazuha despise each other because of their love interest for Heiji.

===Muga Iori===
Iori is Momiji's butler and loyal servant. She values that he approves of Heiji as her future husband.

===Soshi Okita===
Momiji and Okita are classmates. While talking to Ran, Momiji is annoyed at the mere mention of Okita, though she is willing to deliver a message from Ran to him. When he later comes over to the crime scene with some kendo buddies to hunt down tengus, Momiji only has sarcastic comments and further annoyance to offer. In turn, Okita doesn't want Momiji to learn of the girl he has a crush on, fearing he would never hear the end of it if she heard of his crush. Somewhat rudely, Okita only refers to Momiji as "Boobs" in a conversation with Ran, in reference to her overly large breasts.

And yes, he was still playing karuta before he died, and still watching the match of those two. If he didn't realize the intruder, the wound shall be the back of this head, but it was on front, Kogoro knows that these two meeted before he died. The evidence prove when he replied Achiwa's question that if he died, Yajima's death would be in vain" the word 'beaten down' is from a weapon that is a katana, without knowing that the sword was rusted and it is not easily to open. And Kogoro asked why did he know that Yajima was beaten down to death, and he even confirmed that he saw the body, but no. It was covered before Kogoro, Heiji and Conan left the crime scene, so he had no opportunity to look at the corpse.

A bombing case at Nichiuri TV in autumn. The Satsuki Cup, which crowns the winner of Japan's Hyakunin Isshu, is currently being filmed inside the facility. The incident results in a big commotion and, while the building is burning to ashes, the only people left inside are [[Heiji Hattori|Heiji]] and [[Kazuha Toyama|Kazuha]]. They get rescued just in time by [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]], who rushes to the scene. Both the identity and purposes of the bomber are unknown.

While confusion takes over due to the explosion, Conan meets a mysterious beautiful girl who claims she is "Heiji's fiancée". Her name is [[Momiji Ooka]] and she is the high school champion of the [[Wikipedia:Uta-garuta|karuta]] game from Kyoto Senshin High School. As fate would have it, Kazuha is going to face Momiji in the Hyakunin Isshu, so she begins to train with the help of Heiji's mother, [[Shizuka Hattori|Shizuka]], who is a skilled karuta player.

At the same time, in a Japanese house in [[Wikipedia:Arashiyama|Arashiyama]], Kyoto's outskirts, the reigning Satsuki Cup champion is murdered. Pictures of the crime scene reveal Momji's presence. Additionally, several karuta cards were spread around the victim.

Conan and Heiji, along with the Osaka and Kyoto police departments, begin their investigation on the Satsuki Cup and the related murder case. As the inquiry goes on, they come across a secret connected with the Hyakunin Isshu.

While confusion takes over due to the explosion, Conan meets a mysterious beautiful girl who claims she is "Heiji's fiancée". Muga's face seems to be designed very similarly to [[Shuichi Akai]] and [[Shukichi Haneda]], however the eyes have marks that are similar to Movie 20's [[Curacao]] and various minor case characters. He is wearing a hat that is identical to the hat worn by [[Tsutomu Akai]] in Shuichi and [[Mary]]'s flashback images of him. What hair can be seen from under the hat on the back of his head is similar to that of [[Ethan Hondou]]. He wears glasses with thick black rims similar to [[Kohji Haneda]]'s and a button up coat.

Later, when Muga is at the airport, he removes the glasses, the scarf and the hat and reveals that he has long, curly hair.

== Personality ==
Muga is a loyal butler of Momiji, who vows to do his best to support her and her romantic endeavor with [[Heiji Hattori]]. He is confident that Heiji's primary love interest, [[Kazuha]], won't be an obstacle for Momiji. Momiji relies on Muga for second opinions. For instance, she asks Muga's opinion on Heiji and even sent him to Tokyo so that Muga could see him with his own eyes; Muga approves of Heiji as the choice for her future partner.
