The real tray having the bloodstain from the victim's view was pointing at 2 o' clock angle, which when Agasa flipped it horizontally, the crane's beak was at 2 o' clock angle while the bloodstain is at 10 o' clock, which is perpendicular from each other. Conan tells that nor Sakamaki or Chono would have been able to kill the appraiser since swinging the spear for them would have caused the floor to creak and the appraiser to look behind and see the culprit. Tojima says that even it would have made noise, Nishitsu wouldn't have been able to hear anything since the aid wasn't functioning. This last sentence Tojima said proves that he is the culprit since he shouldn't have known that it wasn't functioning at the time unless he was there in the room with Nishitsu which makes Tojima confess that he didn't want to kill him. The motive for killing the appraiser and snatching the real tray was to cover up the cost of his daughter's operation which cost about 5 million yen while he thought his tray was fake and of no value. [[Subaru Okiya]] tells him that in fact, his tray was most probably a prototype made by apprentices and its value should be able to cover up the costs. Tojima bursts into tears as he realizes he had killed the appraiser for nothing. The real tray belongs to Kinji Chouno and he was willing to lend it to Sakamaki for her exhibition at a reasonable price. The proof that it was the real tray was because since Nishitsu was sitting in front of the real tray's box, the blood that would splatter from his head would have likely fallen into the real tray's box just in front of Nishitsu and the only box with blood spots inside is the old man's.<br /> <br /> After the end of the case, Sera questions Mary about the &quot;50:50&quot; catchprase. Mary replies that it is her catchphrase as well, and it's a line that her [[Tsutomu Akai|husband]] used to say and her son Shuichi inherited from him. Sera informs her mother that getting the drug at the moment is diffucult since Subaru is standing in her way, which surprised Mary. He reveals that the culprit is '''Saisuke Jinya''', or rather the person who is '''impersonating Saisuke Jinya''' who reveals that he passed away a few days ago due to an illness. The fake Jinya actually was friends with the real Jinya and had that burn mark since he had put citrus juice on his hand and got a sunburn. Conan, to prove it, drops lemon juice on the fake Jinya's arm which triggers him. It is also proven he is not the real brother since he didn't know that the four children got a burn after putting their hands on the pot to lift their mother's head who fell on it. Other evidences are that the fake Jinya's ears didn't match the ears of the other brothers as ears type are transmitted through DNA. The glasses the fake Jinya is wearing are in fact the ones from Hamana because Hamana had developped metal allergy (prooved by the fact he refused canned goods, chocolate and leather which all contained metal) and wouldn't be able to wear those metal-framed glasses he had on his body. Jinya put them on him because his glasses fell on the ground and smashed so he had to exchange them with Hamana's but couldn't see well evidenced by the fact that the scratch marks on the glasses Hamana is wearing don't match the impact of his fall. The only one with glasses is then Jinya who reveals that he killed Hamana by accident because he pushed him of the ledge while they were fighting for the mother's treasure which Jinya was longing for. After Jinya got arrested, Heiji tells the two other brothers that the treasure is in fact the Jingisukan wok that was in Hamana's bag because the mother wanted the kids to all have Jingisukan after her death to remember her. After this case is closed, Conan asks Heiji which family did that housekeeper work on. Heiji replies that she works for Haneda's family, [[Shukichi Haneda]] old house. She freezes in fear and grief and cuts herself off from everyone. Conan makes a deal with Haibara : he'll go and backtrack with the Detective Boys to find her phone strap, in exchange for the antidotes. Conan and the Boys are helped by Bourbon and rush to the train stations' lost property, all the while being spied on by a strange man.<br /> <br /> === File 998 - Search for the Phone Strap! ===<br /> Conan and Bourbon deduce that a boy from the train mistook Haibara's puppet for his own after the train suddenly and abruptly braked, as everyone lost their balance and kids fell on the ground. They also believe that the boy and his dad were on their way to a certain beach to gather seashells, something they would usually do as they were very tan. Bourbon asks his colleague Yuya Kazami to board the train Conan and co took and to check the words the little kid left on the train compartment window after blowing mist over it. The boy actually wrote his name, Yuuto. At the beach, Conan and co asks for Yuuto and his father. These latter apologise and give Conan back Haibara's puppet, in exchange for Yuuto's one Conan found at the lost property. But the mysterious man spying on them grabs it and runs away.<br /> <br /> === File 999 - Not Just Any Charm! ===<br /> Conan and the Boys eventually find the thief again, who had quickly bought new clothes to leave the beach incognito. Conan and Bourbon reveal he is a jewel trafficker as he had hidden a precious ring in a Higo puppet, and he lost it during the train's sudden braking, and he did accordingly everything to recover it, following the Boys to find the two other Higo puppets. Actually, the man says he's not a trafficker as the jewel was for his girlfriend and he didn't want to lose this engagement ring. Conan and Bourbon realise there are actually three puppets, the man's one with the jewel, Yuuto's one and Haibara's one, which had fallen into Genta's hood in the train. Genta remembers he put his hood on at the diner's car park as it was raining and a few things fell from it, including his detective badge. They go back to the diner's park and find indeed the puppet under a car, but completely soaked and dirty. Conan has caught a cold by jumping into the sea to protect the man's puppet. Each time Conan takes an antidote, he has to wait 8 hours after the back shrinking before taking another one. Shinichi and Ran secretly hope that Ran will give an answer to Shinichi's love declaration back in London. On the Kiyomizu-Dera, Shinichi meets Keiko, an actress and old friend of his mother, who stays in the same hotel as Shinichi and his class, with some university friends with which she shot a blockbuster revolving around a tengu and other monsters. She asks Shinichi to help her to decipher a mysterious code written and sent by their late friend Michio Dekuri, who committed suicide some time ago. The code was received by Nishiki, the movie's screenwriter, along with red aralia leaves, typical from Kyoto. Shinichi tries to solve it, while enjoying Kyoto with his friends, in particular Masumi, who knows Conan is Shinichi but still keeps it a secret. The group of friends visit Kyoto's temples and their gruesome crimson ceilings, that were at first the temple's floors spilled with the blood of samurais who committed mass suicide/seppuku and left many footprints, it was so astounding that the floors were kept and turned into ceilings. A mysterious tan man with a big backpack looks at his watch all the while gazing at Shinichi. Back to the hotel, Shinichi still struggles with the code when Keiko calls him in emergency, he rushes to Nishiki's room and they find the screenwriter stabbed to death, with two bumps on his forehead, his notes spread everywhere and his room's ceiling covered with blood and footprints that lead to an opened window.<br /> <br /> === File 1001 - The Crimson Demon ===<br /> &lt;spoiler&gt;<br /> The mysterious man observing Shinichi is '''Heiji Hattori'''. Inspector Ayanokoji from the Kyoto Police is called for the investigation of Nishiki's murder. Another code and aralia leaf was found in his jacket, suggesting that there may be other victims. The blood on the ceiling was actually red painting. Shinichi rushes to his room as he suddenly feels the usual shrinking pain, he pretends a cold and hides under his blanket, starting to scream. As Nakamichi comes closer to check if everything's okay, Heiji Hattori, who was under the bed, switch places with Conan and shouts with a kansai-accent voice to leave him alone. Heiji has to stay under the blanket, pretending to be Shinichi, and Conan stays under the bed, until the morning. Conan then takes another antidote and as he receives another mail from Keiko, he runs with Heiji to Agata's room, Keiko's freind and art specialist, who has been yelling since a moment. As a groom opens his door, they see Agata on the floor, shaking in fear, being watched by a huge and freaky tengu. Agata throws an ashtray to it and the tengu vanishes in an explosion.<br /> &lt;/spoiler&gt;<br /> <br /> === File 1002 - The Auburn Inuyarai ===<br /> Shinichi is having breakfast with Masumi and they talk about the tengu and the two bumps Agata received on his forehead, along with the aralia and another code, which reminds Shinichi that Keiko also got a bump during a filming accident. The bumps remind them of the Kabutori tale. Ran turns up, very angry, having been told by Nakamichi and many others of the class that Shinichi had said he and Ran had snogged each other in London. Shinichi denies it, remembering Heiji's blunder yesterday. Meanwhile Masumi is kidding Shinichi with his &quot;too short or too long tracksuit&quot;. They have a look at Keiko's upcoming movie's poster with the tengu and Shinichi tells the whole story, especially the suicide of Keiko's husband in the film, who became a tengu afterwards, and the kissing scene at the end on the Kiyomizu-Dera. Ran remembers seeing Keiko commemorating the death of her friend Dekuri, on the Kiyomizu, with great sadness. As Shinichi and co wonder where to go sightseeing today, Shinichi receives a call from Heiji telling him that Nishiki's four friends are going with the police in a Kyoto city centre restaurant to make it clear about who Dekuri was and why he had made these codes, as someone seems to try and avenge his death. Shinichi then proposes Ran and co to have lunch at the same restaurant. Once in front of it, they meet Momiji Ooka who was searching for a place where to have lunch too and who explains what an inuyarai is, the strange big curved wooden box on the walls of the old houses, built either to stop thieves or prevent dogs from urinating on the walls, or to mark the street out. Ran asks Momiji about Soshi Okita, the kendo practitioner, and she replies she knows him well, he's in her class. As they're entering the restaurant, people start screaming that tengus are everywhere in the street and harassing people. The police, Heiji, Shinichi and the others make teams and chase the tengus. Momiji and Sonoko are rescued by Iori. When the tengus are arrested, they are revealed to be people who agreed to win 100,000 yens in exchange for playing monsters in the street around the restaurant. Heiji and Shinichi understand that this was a trap to keep police and witnesses away from the restaurant, and they backtrack as quick as possible, only to find the dead body of Ihaya, Keiko's movie's main actor, whose throat was slit, and whose blood was probably used to make footprints, which seems impossible as there has only been a few minutes between the time when Shinichi and co left and when they returned.<br /> <br /> === File 1003 - Rosy Brown Traces ===<br /> While investigating the murder, Shinichi makes a blunder and imitates Conan's voice, making Ran upset and Masumi smirking. Another code with an aralia is found in Ihaya's pocket. Kazuha calls Heiji in anger and asks him why the media are filming him next to Shinichi in Kyoto, and Heiji replies he went to Kyoto to look for a talisman to cure his cold. Momiji suggests the characters on the codes look like the names of streets and districts of Kyoto. Momiji takes Heiji's phone and taunts Kazuha about Heiji being for her and not for Kazuha/Happa-chan. Keiko, Agata and Mayama, the film director, tell Ayanokoji about Dekuri, who was mad at his friends for adapting his manga as a movie without his permission, and decided to dump them and stand away from them. Some time after, he called them to ask if they could make sure his name appear somewhere in the movie, as he acknowledges it is good work after all. But when he went to see the preview, he found his name nowhere because of a mistake from the producers, and threw himself from the Kiyomizu. Just as Ran wanted to meet Okita, she comes across him near the restaurant. Okita had come with friends to catch the tengus. Sonoko realises Okita really is Shinichi's lookalike. Ran says she wanted to talk to Okita, the latter being very pleased with it. Ran takes him aside and tells him something very secretive and intimate. In Los Angeles, Yukiko and Yusaku answer to their son's call for information about Keiko and her friends. Yukiko says Keiko's stage name is Kyoko, she changed her name due to something that happened in university. She says Nishiki and Mayama also changed name for the movie. Yukiko says maybe what happened at college for Keiko was that she secretly loved another student, to the point she is still not married today, as she keeps thinking about him. Yusaku hints at the fact it may be Dekuri, and Yukiko asks him why. Sonoko sends Shinichi a picture of Ran and Okita very close and talking together in secret, which upsets Shinichi. Ran is surprised to see Heiji in Kyoto as well. The group then heads for the hotel, as there's something weird with the booking of the rooms of Keiko and her friends : Nishiki tried to book a smoking room but there was none vacant in the whole hotel, but afterwards someone called right after and checked out all the rooms. Shinichi keeps thinking about Okita and wonders if Ran really fell in love with him, tired to wait for Shinichi. It turns out that the criminals are husbands (a domestic abuser, an adulterer, and a gambler) who lost against Eri in their divorce cases and decided to take revenge. Their intention was to make a video of Eri naked and make her apologies to them, although with her continued evasion of them, the leader had changed his intention to rape. They end up talking with some other campers, who are members of a basketball team. One of them, Danno, had a recent irreversible eye injury and now wears a prosthetic eye, frightening Conan and Haibara who try to figure out if Rumi has a prosthetic eye as well and could be Rum. Urushibara, one of the campers they meet, suddenly starts speaking and acting in a very obnoxious manner to his friends, and shuts himself away in their tent. Soon after, a fire starts in the tent and he gets burned to death. They try to put it out and save Urushibara, to no avail. As they call the police and Inspector Yuminaga turns up, they are surprised to find in a nearby teepee tent another camper, who is revealed to be Kuroda.<br /> <br /> === File 988 - Violation ===<br /> Kuroda says he saw everything from his tent and can certify the victim's three friends are the only ones who came to the tent before it burned. Rumi and Kuroda seem to know each other and start speaking to one another in a cold and fearless manner. Kuroda also keeps an eye on Conan who tries to investigate the case with Yuminaga, who knows him well (Vol. 39, 60 and 61). Haibara and Conan have a suspicion that Rumi-sensei cannot see through her right eye. Rumi seems out of sorts when Kuroda is around, though she gives Conan a few clues to solve the case.<br /> <br /> === File 989 - Buzzer Beater ===<br /> &lt;spoiler&gt;<br /> The culprit is '''Sumito Ashizawa'''. He made a kind of rocker arm with candles to set fire to the tent later on, Urushibara being asleep and him being away from the tent. He therefore lured the others into believing the candles' movement was actually due to Urushibara doing squats in the tent, implying he was alive and that only Danno could have been the murderer, as he came to the tent after the squats. Ashizawa had put the victim in a sitting position and stuck his hands together behind his head with his own plasters to prevent him from escaping when the burning tent would wake him up. Which means the police will find Ashizawa's hair and fingerprints, along with DNA and skin particles, on the plaster which didn't burn. Not forgetting the cutter he used to escape the tent after locking it from the inside, which has probably some canvas fibers on his blade. Ashizawa says it's indeed the case and uses his cutter to take Ayumi hostage, saying he had asked the victim to damage Danno's eye, to further his own career. But when the 'accident' caused permanent damage, Ashizawa was being blackmailed by the victim, who intended to continue with it. Ashizawa says he'll jump from a cliff with Ayumi, who passes out in fear. As Conan is completely powerless due to leaving his main gadgets in their tent, Rumi comes closer to Ashizawa and orders him to let go of her pupil, and if not to stab her at once, if he desires it so much. She even proposes to help him in doing so, and Ashizawa gets paralysed in fear. Kuroda eventually neutralises him and Ayumi is saved. Conan suspects Rumi even more but Haibara tells him to stop it as she likes her teacher. As Heiji wins a fight with verve, his rival follows him closely behind : Soshi Okita, Shinichi's lookalike he met during a previous case (&quot;Naniwa Murder Case&quot;, Vol. 31). Heiji says to himself he can't but get even with Okita today, he has to win, for Kazuha. The competition pauses for lunch time, and Ran says she'll go to the bathroom before they all go and eat in a diner. Since too many people are queuing in front of the bathroom, Ran asks if therer's another one, and is told to go and have a try at the north entrance's one. Meanwhile, Momiji and Iori are on the phone, Iori informing Momiji of Heiji's high rankings in the competition, while Momiji asks him if everything is ready for the &quot;little party&quot; after Heiji's victory. Iori adds Heiji may confront Okita and another kendo practitioner, &quot;as strong as a demon&quot;.<br /> <br /> In a garden, Shido Nukitani, a kendo match referee, swallows some digestion medicine as a Kyoto Senshin kendo student comes up to him. Nukitani says he expected someone to come along, as this garden serves as a training pitch for kendo fighters during pauses, and adds &quot;he'd better not to do it for now, and not to damage the place&quot;. Suddenly, the kendo student grabs his sabre and slits Nukitani's thorat in one blow, in a flash, without him being just able to react. The murderer then turns around in fear as an old man sitting on a bench behind him says he heard a voice and asks if there's anyone around that could tell him what's happening. The murderer realises the old man is blind and spares his life, leaving the place.<br /> <br /> Ran and Conan notice the bathroom which is exactly in the garden where the old man is. They find the corpse of Nukitani and Conan says the murder is recent and the killer must not be far. They see the old man on the bench, who tells them he's been blind for three years now. He came in the garden to hear the sounds of kendo fights, that remind him of the time when he was a young kendo practitioner. Conan tells him he probably heard the culprit, and the man replies the murderer said something like &quot;the cutter is covered in blood, I can't use it anymore, bring me a new one&quot;. He adds the criminal was speaking with a woman but he didn't heard her words. He says the killer was probably phoning her. The man tells Conan actually the murderer didn't leave the place and went directly to the bathroom. Two other people went to the bathroom as well, but neither them nor the culprit went out of it.<br /> <br /> Conan suggests they call the police and keep an eye on the bathroom, as the murderer may still be armed and has an accomplice. Conan notices Nukitani doesn't show any signs of struggle on his body, implying he probably knew the culprit or knew something that made him drop his guard. Conan is joined by a high school kendo practitioner he thought was Heiji but actually is Okita, who says Nukitani's absence of struggling reminds him of tsujigiris (wanton murders of random passers-by by samurais in the past, when they wanted to try out a new sabre's efficiency). He adds the sabre's blow was deadly, perfect and neat, the work of an expert. Okita introduces himself to Conan, saying he's from Kyoto Senshin kendo club - just like the murderer, something Conan is ignorant of.<br /> <br /> === File 991 - Hands Off! ===<br /> Okita introduces himself to Ran who remembers him to be Heiji's rival. Okita starts hitting on Ran, proposing her to come to Kyoto some day and to call him to show her around. Ran is reminded of Shinichi when looking at Okita. The latter tells Conan what he also meant by the murderer being an expert : Nukitani wears kendo referee clothes, and as referees must have an expert level, he was probably killed by a kendo practitioner of the same level as him, or even better. As Ran is once again reminded of Shinichi's investigation skills, Okita makes another move on her but gets hit on the head by Heiji's bokken, who asks him to stand away from his best friend's girl. Heiji had come to train with Okita, knowing he would come in this garden during competition pauses. Okita came to train as well but not to fight Heiji, instead someone even stronger than Heiji.<br /> <br /> Takagi and Sato turn up and question Yasuoka, the old man. The two police inspectors prepare to storm the bathroom but suddenly two men and a woman emerge quietly from their respective rooms. Heiji and Conan can't believe none of them is covered in blood at all. Norimura, a kendo referee, rushes to Nukitani as he sees him unconscious and blood-drenched, but is stopped by Okita who tells him he's the n°1 suspect for being a kendo expert. Norimura replies he was never able to defeat Nukitani during competitions, who had an even better level than him. As Okita suggests he could have killed him to revenge, the other suspects Sadamori and Yokote pretend not to know who Nukitani is. Conan says Sadamori lies as the forensic shows her a rather equivocal selfie of her and Nukitani on this latter's phone. Norimura remembers Nukitani told him one of his former students would harass him and had a crush on him, she worked in Japan Self-Defense Forces. Sadamori confesses to having practised kendo for three years at high school as Nukitani was her P.E. teacher. She lied not to be involved in the case, as when she came to the bathroom Nukitani was already dead, and she was too afraid to call police, and went hiding in the ladies'.<br /> <br /> Norimura says he was in a hurry and rushed to the bathroom without probably noticing Nukitani. Same thing for Yokote who just didn't want to miss the rest of the competition. As he claims not to know the victim neither kendo, Sadamori calls him a liar and recalls seeing Yokote in a café where she was with Nukitani. Yokote was with his girlfriend bragging about his countless kendo competiton victories with his famous &quot;face attack&quot;, and got in a row with Nukitani when the latter asked which competition it was. The girlfriend then got it he was a liar and left the café at once, infuriated. Yokote replies he also heard Sadamori threatening to kill Nukitani if he didn't leave his wife for her. He also reminds Norimura of the row he had with Nukitani after a competition, what Norimura acknowledges, saying he told Nukitani he thought he was refereeing with too much leniency at the moment, to which Nukitani told him harshly to try and defeat him before telling him how to do his work. Sato therefore remarks they all have the ability and motive to murder him.<br /> <br /> Ran says the old Yasuoka can recognise the murderer's voice, a rather hoarse one, just like the victim. He says the conversation he heard was before the victim's pain grunt, which means the victim could have been killed by the accomplice. The forensic says Nukitani last phoned to...his wife, who is coming momentarily. Takagi suggets either Nukitani or the murderer deleted the real contact person Nukitani phoned to before the murder. Urushibara, one of the campers they meet, suddenly starts speaking and acting in a very obnoxious manner to his friends, and shuts himself away in their tent. Soon after, a fire starts in the tent and he gets burned to death. They try to put it out and save Urushibara, to no avail. As they call the police and Inspector Yuminaga turns up, they are surprised to find in a nearby teepee tent another camper, who is revealed to be Kuroda.<br /> <br /> === File 988 - Violation ===<br /> Kuroda says he saw everything from his tent and can certify the victim's three friends are the only ones who came to the tent before it burned. Rumi and Kuroda seem to know each other and start speaking to one another in a cold and fearless manner. Kuroda also keeps an eye on Conan who tries to investigate the case with Yuminaga, who knows him well (Vol. 39, 60 and 61). Haibara and Conan have a suspicion that Rumi-sensei cannot see through her right eye. Rumi seems out of sorts when Kuroda is around, though she gives Conan a few clues to solve the case.<br /> <br /> === File 989 - Buzzer Beater ===<br /> &lt;spoiler&gt;<br /> The culprit is '''Sumito Ashizawa'''. He made a kind of rocker arm with candles to set fire to the tent later on, Urushibara being asleep and him being away from the tent. He therefore lured the others into believing the candles' movement was actually due to Urushibara doing squats in the tent, implying he was alive and that only Danno could have been the murderer, as he came to the tent after the squats. Ashizawa had put the victim in a sitting position and stuck his hands together behind his head with his own plasters to prevent him from escaping when the burning tent would wake him up. Which means the police will find Ashizawa's hair and fingerprints, along with DNA and skin particles, on the plaster which didn't burn. Not forgetting the cutter he used to escape the tent after locking it from the inside, which has probably some canvas fibers on his blade. Ashizawa says it's indeed the case and uses his cutter to take Ayumi hostage, saying he had asked the victim to damage Danno's eye, to further his own career. But when the 'accident' caused permanent damage, Ashizawa was being blackmailed by the victim, who intended to continue with it. Ashizawa says he'll jump from a cliff with Ayumi, who passes out in fear. As Conan is completely powerless due to leaving his main gadgets in their tent, Rumi comes closer to Ashizawa and orders him to let go of her pupil, and if not to stab her at once, if he desires it so much. She even proposes to help him in doing so, and Ashizawa gets paralysed in fear. Kuroda eventually neutralises him and Ayumi is saved. Conan suspects Rumi even more but Haibara tells him to stop it as she likes her teacher. Heiji says to himself he can't but get even with Okita today, he has to win, for Kazuha. The competition pauses for lunch time, and Ran says she'll go to the bathroom before they all go and eat in a diner. Since too many people are queuing in front of the bathroom, Ran asks if therer's another one, and is told to go and have a try at the north entrance's one. Meanwhile, Momiji and Iori are on the phone, Iori informing Momiji of Heiji's high rankings in the competition, while Momiji asks him if everything is ready for the &quot;little party&quot; after Heiji's victory. Iori adds Heiji may confront Okita and another kendo practitioner, &quot;as strong as a demon&quot;.<br /> <br /> In a garden, Shido Nukitani, a kendo match referee, swallows some digestion medicine as a Kyoto Senshin kendo student comes up to him. Nukitani says he expected someone to come along, as this garden serves as a training pitch for kendo fighters during pauses, and adds &quot;he'd better not to do it for now, and not to damage the place&quot;. Suddenly, the kendo student grabs his sabre and slits Nukitani's thorat in one blow, in a flash, without him being just able to react. The murderer then turns around in fear as an old man sitting on a bench behind him says he heard a voice and asks if there's anyone around that could tell him what's happening. The murderer realises the old man is blind and spares his life, leaving the place.<br /> <br /> Ran and Conan notice the bathroom which is exactly in the garden where the old man is. They find the corpse of Nukitani and Conan says the murder is recent and the killer must not be far. They see the old man on the bench, who tells them he's been blind for three years now. He came in the garden to hear the sounds of kendo fights, that remind him of the time when he was a young kendo practitioner. Conan tells him he probably heard the culprit, and the man replies the murderer said something like &quot;the cutter is covered in blood, I can't use it anymore, bring me a new one&quot;. He adds the criminal was speaking with a woman but he didn't heard her words. He says the killer was probably phoning her. The man tells Conan actually the murderer didn't leave the place and went directly to the bathroom. Two other people went to the bathroom as well, but neither them nor the culprit went out of it.<br /> <br /> Conan suggests they call the police and keep an eye on the bathroom, as the murderer may still be armed and has an accomplice. Conan notices Nukitani doesn't show any signs of struggle on his body, implying he probably knew the culprit or knew something that made him drop his guard. Conan is joined by a high school kendo practitioner he thought was Heiji but actually is Okita, who says Nukitani's absence of struggling reminds him of tsujigiris (wanton murders of random passers-by by samurais in the past, when they wanted to try out a new sabre's efficiency). He adds the sabre's blow was deadly, perfect and neat, the work of an expert. Okita introduces himself to Conan, saying he's from Kyoto Senshin kendo club - just like the murderer, something Conan is ignorant of.<br /> <br /> === File 991 - Hands Off! ===<br /> Okita introduces himself to Ran who remembers him to be Heiji's rival. Okita starts hitting on Ran, proposing her to come to Kyoto some day and to call him to show her around. Ran is reminded of Shinichi when looking at Okita. The latter tells Conan what he also meant by the murderer being an expert : Nukitani wears kendo referee clothes, and as referees must have an expert level, he was probably killed by a kendo practitioner of the same level as him, or even better. As Ran is once again reminded of Shinichi's investigation skills, Okita makes another move on her but gets hit on the head by Heiji's bokken, who asks him to stand away from his best friend's girl. Heiji had come to train with Okita, knowing he would come in this garden during competition pauses. Okita came to train as well but not to fight Heiji, instead someone even stronger than Heiji.<br /> <br /> Takagi and Sato turn up and question Yasuoka, the old man. The two police inspectors prepare to storm the bathroom but suddenly two men and a woman emerge quietly from their respective rooms. Heiji and Conan can't believe none of them is covered in blood at all. Norimura, a kendo referee, rushes to Nukitani as he sees him unconscious and blood-drenched, but is stopped by Okita who tells him he's the n°1 suspect for being a kendo expert. Norimura replies he was never able to defeat Nukitani during competitions, who had an even better level than him. As Okita suggests he could have killed him to revenge, the other suspects Sadamori and Yokote pretend not to know who Nukitani is. Conan says Sadamori lies as the forensic shows her a rather equivocal selfie of her and Nukitani on this latter's phone. Norimura remembers Nukitani told him one of his former students would harass him and had a crush on him, she worked in Japan Self-Defense Forces. Sadamori confesses to having practised kendo for three years at high school as Nukitani was her P.E. teacher. She lied not to be involved in the case, as when she came to the bathroom Nukitani was already dead, and she was too afraid to call police, and went hiding in the ladies'.<br /> <br /> Norimura says he was in a hurry and rushed to the bathroom without probably noticing Nukitani. Same thing for Yokote who just didn't want to miss the rest of the competition. As he claims not to know the victim neither kendo, Sadamori calls him a liar and recalls seeing Yokote in a café where she was with Nukitani. Yokote was with his girlfriend bragging about his countless kendo competiton victories with his famous &quot;face attack&quot;, and got in a row with Nukitani when the latter asked which competition it was. The girlfriend then got it he was a liar and left the café at once, infuriated. Yokote replies he also heard Sadamori threatening to kill Nukitani if he didn't leave his wife for her. He also reminds Norimura of the row he had with Nukitani after a competition, what Norimura acknowledges, saying he told Nukitani he thought he was refereeing with too much leniency at the moment, to which Nukitani told him harshly to try and defeat him before telling him how to do his work. Sato therefore remarks they all have the ability and motive to murder him.<br /> <br /> Ran says the old Yasuoka can recognise the murderer's voice, a rather hoarse one, just like the victim. He says the conversation he heard was before the victim's pain grunt, which means the victim could have been killed by the accomplice. The forensic says Nukitani last phoned to...his wife, who is coming momentarily. Takagi suggets either Nukitani or the murderer deleted the real contact person Nukitani phoned to before the murder. They end up talking with some other campers, who are members of a basketball team. One of them, Danno, had a recent irreversible eye injury and now wears a prosthetic eye, frightening Conan and Haibara who try to figure out if Rumi has a prosthetic eye as well and could be Rum. Urushibara, one of the campers they meet, suddenly starts speaking and acting in a very obnoxious manner to his friends, and shuts himself away in their tent. Soon after, a fire starts in the tent and he gets burned to death. They try to put it out and save Urushibara, to no avail. As they call the police and Inspector Yuminaga turns up, they are surprised to find in a nearby teepee tent another camper, who is revealed to be Kuroda.<br /> <br /> === File 988 - Violation ===<br /> Kuroda says he saw everything from his tent and can certify the victim's three friends are the only ones who came to the tent before it burned. Rumi and Kuroda seem to know each other and start speaking to one another in a cold and fearless manner. Kuroda also keeps an eye on Conan who tries to investigate the case with Yuminaga, who knows him well (Vol. 39, 60 and 61). Haibara and Conan have a suspicion that Rumi-sensei cannot see through her right eye. Rumi seems out of sorts when Kuroda is around, though she gives Conan a few clues to solve the case.<br /> <br /> === File 989 - Buzzer Beater ===<br /> &lt;spoiler&gt;<br /> The culprit is '''Sumito Ashizawa'''. He made a kind of rocker arm with candles to set fire to the tent later on, Urushibara being asleep and him being away from the tent. He therefore lured the others into believing the candles' movement was actually due to Urushibara doing squats in the tent, implying he was alive and that only Danno could have been the murderer, as he came to the tent after the squats. Ashizawa had put the victim in a sitting position and stuck his hands together behind his head with his own plasters to prevent him from escaping when the burning tent would wake him up. Which means the police will find Ashizawa's hair and fingerprints, along with DNA and skin particles, on the plaster which didn't burn. Not forgetting the cutter he used to escape the tent after locking it from the inside, which has probably some canvas fibers on his blade. Ashizawa says it's indeed the case and uses his cutter to take Ayumi hostage, saying he had asked the victim to damage Danno's eye, to further his own career. But when the 'accident' caused permanent damage, Ashizawa was being blackmailed by the victim, who intended to continue with it. Ashizawa says he'll jump from a cliff with Ayumi, who passes out in fear. As Conan is completely powerless due to leaving his main gadgets in their tent, Rumi comes closer to Ashizawa and orders him to let go of her pupil, and if not to stab her at once, if he desires it so much. She even proposes to help him in doing so, and Ashizawa gets paralysed in fear. Kuroda eventually neutralises him and Ayumi is saved. Conan suspects Rumi even more but Haibara tells him to stop it as she likes her teacher. As Heiji wins a fight with verve, his rival follows him closely behind : Soshi Okita, Shinichi's lookalike he met during a previous case (&quot;Naniwa Murder Case&quot;, Vol. 31). Heiji says to himself he can't but get even with Okita today, he has to win, for Kazuha. The competition pauses for lunch time, and Ran says she'll go to the bathroom before they all go and eat in a diner. Since too many people are queuing in front of the bathroom, Ran asks if therer's another one, and is told to go and have a try at the north entrance's one. Meanwhile, Momiji and Iori are on the phone, Iori informing Momiji of Heiji's high rankings in the competition, while Momiji asks him if everything is ready for the &quot;little party&quot; after Heiji's victory. Iori adds Heiji may confront Okita and another kendo practitioner, &quot;as strong as a demon&quot;.<br /> <br /> In a garden, Shido Nukitani, a kendo match referee, swallows some digestion medicine as a Kyoto Senshin kendo student comes up to him. Nukitani says he expected someone to come along, as this garden serves as a training pitch for kendo fighters during pauses, and adds &quot;he'd better not to do it for now, and not to damage the place&quot;. Suddenly, the kendo student grabs his sabre and slits Nukitani's thorat in one blow, in a flash, without him being just able to react. The murderer then turns around in fear as an old man sitting on a bench behind him says he heard a voice and asks if there's anyone around that could tell him what's happening. The murderer realises the old man is blind and spares his life, leaving the place.<br /> <br /> Ran and Conan notice the bathroom which is exactly in the garden where the old man is. They find the corpse of Nukitani and Conan says the murder is recent and the killer must not be far. They see the old man on the bench, who tells them he's been blind for three years now. He came in the garden to hear the sounds of kendo fights, that remind him of the time when he was a young kendo practitioner. Conan tells him he probably heard the culprit, and the man replies the murderer said something like &quot;the cutter is covered in blood, I can't use it anymore, bring me a new one&quot;. He adds the criminal was speaking with a woman but he didn't heard her words. He says the killer was probably phoning her. The man tells Conan actually the murderer didn't leave the place and went directly to the bathroom. Two other people went to the bathroom as well, but neither them nor the culprit went out of it.<br /> <br /> Conan suggests they call the police and keep an eye on the bathroom, as the murderer may still be armed and has an accomplice. Conan notices Nukitani doesn't show any signs of struggle on his body, implying he probably knew the culprit or knew something that made him drop his guard. Conan is joined by a high school kendo practitioner he thought was Heiji but actually is Okita, who says Nukitani's absence of struggling reminds him of tsujigiris (wanton murders of random passers-by by samurais in the past, when they wanted to try out a new sabre's efficiency). He adds the sabre's blow was deadly, perfect and neat, the work of an expert. Okita introduces himself to Conan, saying he's from Kyoto Senshin kendo club - just like the murderer, something Conan is ignorant of.<br /> <br /> === File 991 - Hands Off! ===<br /> Okita introduces himself to Ran who remembers him to be Heiji's rival. Okita starts hitting on Ran, proposing her to come to Kyoto some day and to call him to show her around. Ran is reminded of Shinichi when looking at Okita. The latter tells Conan what he also meant by the murderer being an expert : Nukitani wears kendo referee clothes, and as referees must have an expert level, he was probably killed by a kendo practitioner of the same level as him, or even better. As Ran is once again reminded of Shinichi's investigation skills, Okita makes another move on her but gets hit on the head by Heiji's bokken, who asks him to stand away from his best friend's girl. Heiji had come to train with Okita, knowing he would come in this garden during competition pauses. Okita came to train as well but not to fight Heiji, instead someone even stronger than Heiji.<br /> <br /> Takagi and Sato turn up and question Yasuoka, the old man. The two police inspectors prepare to storm the bathroom but suddenly two men and a woman emerge quietly from their respective rooms. Heiji and Conan can't believe none of them is covered in blood at all. Norimura, a kendo referee, rushes to Nukitani as he sees him unconscious and blood-drenched, but is stopped by Okita who tells him he's the n°1 suspect for being a kendo expert. Norimura replies he was never able to defeat Nukitani during competitions, who had an even better level than him. As Okita suggests he could have killed him to revenge, the other suspects Sadamori and Yokote pretend not to know who Nukitani is. Conan says Sadamori lies as the forensic shows her a rather equivocal selfie of her and Nukitani on this latter's phone. Norimura remembers Nukitani told him one of his former students would harass him and had a crush on him, she worked in Japan Self-Defense Forces. Sadamori confesses to having practised kendo for three years at high school as Nukitani was her P.E. teacher. She lied not to be involved in the case, as when she came to the bathroom Nukitani was already dead, and she was too afraid to call police, and went hiding in the ladies'.<br /> <br /> Norimura says he was in a hurry and rushed to the bathroom without probably noticing Nukitani. Same thing for Yokote who just didn't want to miss the rest of the competition. As he claims not to know the victim neither kendo, Sadamori calls him a liar and recalls seeing Yokote in a café where she was with Nukitani. Yokote was with his girlfriend bragging about his countless kendo competiton victories with his famous &quot;face attack&quot;, and got in a row with Nukitani when the latter asked which competition it was. The girlfriend then got it he was a liar and left the café at once, infuriated. Yokote replies he also heard Sadamori threatening to kill Nukitani if he didn't leave his wife for her. He also reminds Norimura of the row he had with Nukitani after a competition, what Norimura acknowledges, saying he told Nukitani he thought he was refereeing with too much leniency at the moment, to which Nukitani told him harshly to try and defeat him before telling him how to do his work. Sato therefore remarks they all have the ability and motive to murder him.<br /> <br /> Ran says the old Yasuoka can recognise the murderer's voice, a rather hoarse one, just like the victim. He says the conversation he heard was before the victim's pain grunt, which means the victim could have been killed by the accomplice. The forensic says Nukitani last phoned to...his wife, who is coming momentarily. Takagi suggets either Nukitani or the murderer deleted the real contact person Nukitani phoned to before the murder. Behind the bathroom, Okita finds out a bloody complete kendo dogi (clothes) and armor, equidistant from both rooms' windows, implying we can't know if a man or a woman threw it away. Okita sees it's a Kyoto Senshin armor and remembers not long ago people reported the mysterious theft of a reservists' armor, serving for everybody, even Norimura, who calls it a spare armor, he used it as well not long ago but didn't steal it.<br /> <br /> Given it's impossible to find fingerprints or footprints as it is used by everyone and worn over clothes, Sato tells Takagi to go and cancel the competition. Heiji stops him and asks him to wait another 40 minutes, the remaining time before competition resumes, as he wants to win it to confess his love to Kazuha, and there's still some time then to try and solve the case. Heiji believes he will defeat Okita, and Okita proposes to settle it right now, not to waste any time.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, Kazuha is worrying about Conan's and Ran's whereabouts, as the competition will resume very soon. They manage to rescue her in time and incapacitate the criminals. It turns out that the criminals are husbands (a domestic abuser, an adulterer, and a gambler) who lost against Eri in their divorce cases and decided to take revenge. Their intention was to make a video of Eri naked and make her apologies to them, although with her continued evasion of them, the leader had changed his intention to rape. Shiratori advises him to take a holiday and go camping for a few days. Rumi takes the Detective Boys camping as well. They end up talking with some other campers, who are members of a basketball team. One of them, Danno, had a recent irreversible eye injury and now wears a prosthetic eye, frightening Conan and Haibara who try to figure out if Rumi has a prosthetic eye as well and could be Rum. Urushibara, one of the campers they meet, suddenly starts speaking and acting in a very obnoxious manner to his friends, and shuts himself away in their tent. Soon after, a fire starts in the tent and he gets burned to death. They try to put it out and save Urushibara, to no avail. As they call the police and Inspector Yuminaga turns up, they are surprised to find in a nearby teepee tent another camper, who is revealed to be Kuroda.<br /> <br /> === File 988 - Violation ===<br /> Kuroda says he saw everything from his tent and can certify the victim's three friends are the only ones who came to the tent before it burned. Rumi and Kuroda seem to know each other and start speaking to one another in a cold and fearless manner. Kuroda also keeps an eye on Conan who tries to investigate the case with Yuminaga, who knows him well (Vol. 39, 60 and 61). Haibara and Conan have a suspicion that Rumi-sensei cannot see through her right eye. Rumi seems out of sorts when Kuroda is around, though she gives Conan a few clues to solve the case.<br /> <br /> === File 989 - Buzzer Beater ===<br /> &lt;spoiler&gt;<br /> The culprit is '''Sumito Ashizawa'''. He made a kind of rocker arm with candles to set fire to the tent later on, Urushibara being asleep and him being away from the tent. He therefore lured the others into believing the candles' movement was actually due to Urushibara doing squats in the tent, implying he was alive and that only Danno could have been the murderer, as he came to the tent after the squats. Ashizawa had put the victim in a sitting position and stuck his hands together behind his head with his own plasters to prevent him from escaping when the burning tent would wake him up. Which means the police will find Ashizawa's hair and fingerprints, along with DNA and skin particles, on the plaster which didn't burn. Not forgetting the cutter he used to escape the tent after locking it from the inside, which has probably some canvas fibers on his blade. Ashizawa says it's indeed the case and uses his cutter to take Ayumi hostage, saying he had asked the victim to damage Danno's eye, to further his own career. But when the 'accident' caused permanent damage, Ashizawa was being blackmailed by the victim, who intended to continue with it. Ashizawa says he'll jump from a cliff with Ayumi, who passes out in fear. As Conan is completely powerless due to leaving his main gadgets in their tent, Rumi comes closer to Ashizawa and orders him to let go of her pupil, and if not to stab her at once, if he desires it so much. She even proposes to help him in doing so, and Ashizawa gets paralysed in fear. Kuroda eventually neutralises him and Ayumi is saved. Conan suspects Rumi even more but Haibara tells him to stop it as she likes her teacher. As Heiji wins a fight with verve, his rival follows him closely behind : Soshi Okita, Shinichi's lookalike he met during a previous case (&quot;Naniwa Murder Case&quot;, Vol. 31). Heiji says to himself he can't but get even with Okita today, he has to win, for Kazuha. The competition pauses for lunch time, and Ran says she'll go to the bathroom before they all go and eat in a diner. Since too many people are queuing in front of the bathroom, Ran asks if therer's another one, and is told to go and have a try at the north entrance's one. Meanwhile, Momiji and Iori are on the phone, Iori informing Momiji of Heiji's high rankings in the competition, while Momiji asks him if everything is ready for the &quot;little party&quot; after Heiji's victory. Iori adds Heiji may confront Okita and another kendo practitioner, &quot;as strong as a demon&quot;.<br /> <br /> In a garden, Shido Nukitani, a kendo match referee, swallows some digestion medicine as a Kyoto Senshin kendo student comes up to him. Nukitani says he expected someone to come along, as this garden serves as a training pitch for kendo fighters during pauses, and adds &quot;he'd better not to do it for now, and not to damage the place&quot;. Suddenly, the kendo student grabs his sabre and slits Nukitani's thorat in one blow, in a flash, without him being just able to react. The murderer then turns around in fear as an old man sitting on a bench behind him says he heard a voice and asks if there's anyone around that could tell him what's happening. The murderer realises the old man is blind and spares his life, leaving the place.<br /> <br /> Ran and Conan notice the bathroom which is exactly in the garden where the old man is. They find the corpse of Nukitani and Conan says the murder is recent and the killer must not be far. They see the old man on the bench, who tells them he's been blind for three years now. He came in the garden to hear the sounds of kendo fights, that remind him of the time when he was a young kendo practitioner. Conan tells him he probably heard the culprit, and the man replies the murderer said something like &quot;the cutter is covered in blood, I can't use it anymore, bring me a new one&quot;. He adds the criminal was speaking with a woman but he didn't heard her words. He says the killer was probably phoning her. The man tells Conan actually the murderer didn't leave the place and went directly to the bathroom. Two other people went to the bathroom as well, but neither them nor the culprit went out of it.<br /> <br /> Conan suggests they call the police and keep an eye on the bathroom, as the murderer may still be armed and has an accomplice. Conan notices Nukitani doesn't show any signs of struggle on his body, implying he probably knew the culprit or knew something that made him drop his guard. Conan is joined by a high school kendo practitioner he thought was Heiji but actually is Okita, who says Nukitani's absence of struggling reminds him of tsujigiris (wanton murders of random passers-by by samurais in the past, when they wanted to try out a new sabre's efficiency). He adds the sabre's blow was deadly, perfect and neat, the work of an expert. Okita introduces himself to Conan, saying he's from Kyoto Senshin kendo club - just like the murderer, something Conan is ignorant of.<br /> <br /> === File 991 - Hands Off! ===<br /> Okita introduces himself to Ran who remembers him to be Heiji's rival. Okita starts hitting on Ran, proposing her to come to Kyoto some day and to call him to show her around. Ran is reminded of Shinichi when looking at Okita. The latter tells Conan what he also meant by the murderer being an expert : Nukitani wears kendo referee clothes, and as referees must have an expert level, he was probably killed by a kendo practitioner of the same level as him, or even better. As Ran is once again reminded of Shinichi's investigation skills, Okita makes another move on her but gets hit on the head by Heiji's bokken, who asks him to stand away from his best friend's girl. Heiji had come to train with Okita, knowing he would come in this garden during competition pauses. Okita came to train as well but not to fight Heiji, instead someone even stronger than Heiji.<br /> <br /> Takagi and Sato turn up and question Yasuoka, the old man. The two police inspectors prepare to storm the bathroom but suddenly two men and a woman emerge quietly from their respective rooms. Heiji and Conan can't believe none of them is covered in blood at all. Norimura, a kendo referee, rushes to Nukitani as he sees him unconscious and blood-drenched, but is stopped by Okita who tells him he's the n°1 suspect for being a kendo expert. Norimura replies he was never able to defeat Nukitani during competitions, who had an even better level than him. As Okita suggests he could have killed him to revenge, the other suspects Sadamori and Yokote pretend not to know who Nukitani is. Conan says Sadamori lies as the forensic shows her a rather equivocal selfie of her and Nukitani on this latter's phone. Norimura remembers Nukitani told him one of his former students would harass him and had a crush on him, she worked in Japan Self-Defense Forces. Sadamori confesses to having practised kendo for three years at high school as Nukitani was her P.E. teacher. She lied not to be involved in the case, as when she came to the bathroom Nukitani was already dead, and she was too afraid to call police, and went hiding in the ladies'.<br /> <br /> Norimura says he was in a hurry and rushed to the bathroom without probably noticing Nukitani. Same thing for Yokote who just didn't want to miss the rest of the competition. As he claims not to know the victim neither kendo, Sadamori calls him a liar and recalls seeing Yokote in a café where she was with Nukitani. Yokote was with his girlfriend bragging about his countless kendo competiton victories with his famous &quot;face attack&quot;, and got in a row with Nukitani when the latter asked which competition it was. The girlfriend then got it he was a liar and left the café at once, infuriated. Yokote replies he also heard Sadamori threatening to kill Nukitani if he didn't leave his wife for her. He also reminds Norimura of the row he had with Nukitani after a competition, what Norimura acknowledges, saying he told Nukitani he thought he was refereeing with too much leniency at the moment, to which Nukitani told him harshly to try and defeat him before telling him how to do his work. Sato therefore remarks they all have the ability and motive to murder him.<br /> <br /> Ran says the old Yasuoka can recognise the murderer's voice, a rather hoarse one, just like the victim. He says the conversation he heard was before the victim's pain grunt, which means the victim could have been killed by the accomplice. The forensic says Nukitani last phoned to...his wife, who is coming momentarily. Takagi suggets either Nukitani or the murderer deleted the real contact person Nukitani phoned to before the murder. Behind the bathroom, Okita finds out a bloody complete kendo dogi (clothes) and armor, equidistant from both rooms' windows, implying we can't know if a man or a woman threw it away. Okita sees it's a Kyoto Senshin armor and remembers not long ago people reported the mysterious theft of a reservists' armor, serving for everybody, even Norimura, who calls it a spare armor, he used it as well not long ago but didn't steal it.<br /> <br /> Given it's impossible to find fingerprints or footprints as it is used by everyone and worn over clothes, Sato tells Takagi to go and cancel the competition. Heiji stops him and asks him to wait another 40 minutes, the remaining time before competition resumes, as he wants to win it to confess his love to Kazuha, and there's still some time then to try and solve the case. Heiji believes he will defeat Okita, and Okita proposes to settle it right now, not to waste any time.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, Kazuha is worrying about Conan's and Ran's whereabouts, as the competition will resume very soon. They manage to rescue her in time and incapacitate the criminals. It turns out that the criminals are husbands (a domestic abuser, an adulterer, and a gambler) who lost against Eri in their divorce cases and decided to take revenge. Their intention was to make a video of Eri naked and make her apologies to them, although with her continued evasion of them, the leader had changed his intention to rape. Shiratori advises him to take a holiday and go camping for a few days. Rumi takes the Detective Boys camping as well. They end up talking with some other campers, who are members of a basketball team. One of them, Danno, had a recent irreversible eye injury and now wears a prosthetic eye, frightening Conan and Haibara who try to figure out if Rumi has a prosthetic eye as well and could be Rum. Urushibara, one of the campers they meet, suddenly starts speaking and acting in a very obnoxious manner to his friends, and shuts himself away in their tent. Soon after, a fire starts in the tent and he gets burned to death. They try to put it out and save Urushibara, to no avail. As they call the police and Inspector Yuminaga turns up, they are surprised to find in a nearby teepee tent another camper, who is revealed to be Kuroda.<br /> <br /> === File 988 - Violation ===<br /> Kuroda says he saw everything from his tent and can certify the victim's three friends are the only ones who came to the tent before it burned. Rumi and Kuroda seem to know each other and start speaking to one another in a cold and fearless manner. Kuroda also keeps an eye on Conan who tries to investigate the case with Yuminaga, who knows him well (Vol. 39, 60 and 61). Haibara and Conan have a suspicion that Rumi-sensei cannot see through her right eye. Rumi seems out of sorts when Kuroda is around, though she gives Conan a few clues to solve the case.<br /> <br /> === File 989 - Buzzer Beater ===<br /> &lt;spoiler&gt;<br /> The culprit is '''Sumito Ashizawa'''. He made a kind of rocker arm with candles to set fire to the tent later on, Urushibara being asleep and him being away from the tent. He therefore lured the others into believing the candles' movement was actually due to Urushibara doing squats in the tent, implying he was alive and that only Danno could have been the murderer, as he came to the tent after the squats. Ashizawa had put the victim in a sitting position and stuck his hands together behind his head with his own plasters to prevent him from escaping when the burning tent would wake him up. Which means the police will find Ashizawa's hair and fingerprints, along with DNA and skin particles, on the plaster which didn't burn. Not forgetting the cutter he used to escape the tent after locking it from the inside, which has probably some canvas fibers on his blade. Ashizawa says it's indeed the case and uses his cutter to take Ayumi hostage, saying he had asked the victim to damage Danno's eye, to further his own career. But when the 'accident' caused permanent damage, Ashizawa was being blackmailed by the victim, who intended to continue with it. Ashizawa says he'll jump from a cliff with Ayumi, who passes out in fear. As Conan is completely powerless due to leaving his main gadgets in their tent, Rumi comes closer to Ashizawa and orders him to let go of her pupil, and if not to stab her at once, if he desires it so much. She even proposes to help him in doing so, and Ashizawa gets paralysed in fear. Kuroda eventually neutralises him and Ayumi is saved. Conan suspects Rumi even more but Haibara tells him to stop it as she likes her teacher. As Heiji wins a fight with verve, his rival follows him closely behind : Soshi Okita, Shinichi's lookalike he met during a previous case (&quot;Naniwa Murder Case&quot;, Vol. 31). Heiji says to himself he can't but get even with Okita today, he has to win, for Kazuha. The competition pauses for lunch time, and Ran says she'll go to the bathroom before they all go and eat in a diner. Since too many people are queuing in front of the bathroom, Ran asks if therer's another one, and is told to go and have a try at the north entrance's one. Meanwhile, Momiji and Iori are on the phone, Iori informing Momiji of Heiji's high rankings in the competition, while Momiji asks him if everything is ready for the &quot;little party&quot; after Heiji's victory. Iori adds Heiji may confront Okita and another kendo practitioner, &quot;as strong as a demon&quot;.<br /> <br /> In a garden, Shido Nukitani, a kendo match referee, swallows some digestion medicine as a Kyoto Senshin kendo student comes up to him. Nukitani says he expected someone to come along, as this garden serves as a training pitch for kendo fighters during pauses, and adds &quot;he'd better not to do it for now, and not to damage the place&quot;. Suddenly, the kendo student grabs his sabre and slits Nukitani's thorat in one blow, in a flash, without him being just able to react. The murderer then turns around in fear as an old man sitting on a bench behind him says he heard a voice and asks if there's anyone around that could tell him what's happening. The murderer realises the old man is blind and spares his life, leaving the place.<br /> <br /> Ran and Conan notice the bathroom which is exactly in the garden where the old man is. They find the corpse of Nukitani and Conan says the murder is recent and the killer must not be far. They see the old man on the bench, who tells them he's been blind for three years now. He came in the garden to hear the sounds of kendo fights, that remind him of the time when he was a young kendo practitioner. Conan tells him he probably heard the culprit, and the man replies the murderer said something like &quot;the cutter is covered in blood, I can't use it anymore, bring me a new one&quot;. He adds the criminal was speaking with a woman but he didn't heard her words. He says the killer was probably phoning her. The man tells Conan actually the murderer didn't leave the place and went directly to the bathroom. Two other people went to the bathroom as well, but neither them nor the culprit went out of it.<br /> <br /> Conan suggests they call the police and keep an eye on the bathroom, as the murderer may still be armed and has an accomplice. Conan notices Nukitani doesn't show any signs of struggle on his body, implying he probably knew the culprit or knew something that made him drop his guard. Conan is joined by a high school kendo practitioner he thought was Heiji but actually is Okita, who says Nukitani's absence of struggling reminds him of tsujigiris (wanton murders of random passers-by by samurais in the past, when they wanted to try out a new sabre's efficiency). He adds the sabre's blow was deadly, perfect and neat, the work of an expert. Okita introduces himself to Conan, saying he's from Kyoto Senshin kendo club - just like the murderer, something Conan is ignorant of.<br /> <br /> === File 991 - Hands Off! ===<br /> Okita introduces himself to Ran who remembers him to be Heiji's rival. Okita starts hitting on Ran, proposing her to come to Kyoto some day and to call him to show her around. Ran is reminded of Shinichi when looking at Okita. The latter tells Conan what he also meant by the murderer being an expert : Nukitani wears kendo referee clothes, and as referees must have an expert level, he was probably killed by a kendo practitioner of the same level as him, or even better. As Ran is once again reminded of Shinichi's investigation skills, Okita makes another move on her but gets hit on the head by Heiji's bokken, who asks him to stand away from his best friend's girl. Heiji had come to train with Okita, knowing he would come in this garden during competition pauses. Okita came to train as well but not to fight Heiji, instead someone even stronger than Heiji.<br /> <br /> Takagi and Sato turn up and question Yasuoka, the old man. The two police inspectors prepare to storm the bathroom but suddenly two men and a woman emerge quietly from their respective rooms. Heiji and Conan can't believe none of them is covered in blood at all. Norimura, a kendo referee, rushes to Nukitani as he sees him unconscious and blood-drenched, but is stopped by Okita who tells him he's the n°1 suspect for being a kendo expert. Norimura replies he was never able to defeat Nukitani during competitions, who had an even better level than him. As Okita suggests he could have killed him to revenge, the other suspects Sadamori and Yokote pretend not to know who Nukitani is. Conan says Sadamori lies as the forensic shows her a rather equivocal selfie of her and Nukitani on this latter's phone. Norimura remembers Nukitani told him one of his former students would harass him and had a crush on him, she worked in Japan Self-Defense Forces. Sadamori confesses to having practised kendo for three years at high school as Nukitani was her P.E. teacher. She lied not to be involved in the case, as when she came to the bathroom Nukitani was already dead, and she was too afraid to call police, and went hiding in the ladies'.<br /> <br /> Norimura says he was in a hurry and rushed to the bathroom without probably noticing Nukitani. Same thing for Yokote who just didn't want to miss the rest of the competition. As he claims not to know the victim neither kendo, Sadamori calls him a liar and recalls seeing Yokote in a café where she was with Nukitani. Yokote was with his girlfriend bragging about his countless kendo competiton victories with his famous &quot;face attack&quot;, and got in a row with Nukitani when the latter asked which competition it was. The girlfriend then got it he was a liar and left the café at once, infuriated. Yokote replies he also heard Sadamori threatening to kill Nukitani if he didn't leave his wife for her. He also reminds Norimura of the row he had with Nukitani after a competition, what Norimura acknowledges, saying he told Nukitani he thought he was refereeing with too much leniency at the moment, to which Nukitani told him harshly to try and defeat him before telling him how to do his work. Sato therefore remarks they all have the ability and motive to murder him.<br /> <br /> Ran says the old Yasuoka can recognise the murderer's voice, a rather hoarse one, just like the victim. He says the conversation he heard was before the victim's pain grunt, which means the victim could have been killed by the accomplice. The forensic says Nukitani last phoned to...his wife, who is coming momentarily. Takagi suggets either Nukitani or the murderer deleted the real contact person Nukitani phoned to before the murder. Behind the bathroom, Okita finds out a bloody complete kendo dogi (clothes) and armor, equidistant from both rooms' windows, implying we can't know if a man or a woman threw it away. Okita sees it's a Kyoto Senshin armor and remembers not long ago people reported the mysterious theft of a reservists' armor, serving for everybody, even Norimura, who calls it a spare armor, he used it as well not long ago but didn't steal it.<br /> <br /> Given it's impossible to find fingerprints or footprints as it is used by everyone and worn over clothes, Sato tells Takagi to go and cancel the competition. Heiji stops him and asks him to wait another 40 minutes, the remaining time before competition resumes, as he wants to win it to confess his love to Kazuha, and there's still some time then to try and solve the case. Heiji believes he will defeat Okita, and Okita proposes to settle it right now, not to waste any time.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, Kazuha is worrying about Conan's and Ran's whereabouts, as the competition will resume very soon. They manage to rescue her in time and incapacitate the criminals. It turns out that the criminals are husbands (a domestic abuser, an adulterer, and a gambler) who lost against Eri in their divorce cases and decided to take revenge. Their intention was to make a video of Eri naked and make her apologies to them, although with her continued evasion of them, the leader had changed his intention to rape. Shiratori advises him to take a holiday and go camping for a few days. Rumi takes the Detective Boys camping as well. They end up talking with some other campers, who are members of a basketball team. One of them, Danno, had a recent irreversible eye injury and now wears a prosthetic eye, frightening Conan and Haibara who try to figure out if Rumi has a prosthetic eye as well and could be Rum. Urushibara, one of the campers they meet, suddenly starts speaking and acting in a very obnoxious manner to his friends, and shuts himself away in their tent. Soon after, a fire starts in the tent and he gets burned to death. They try to put it out and save Urushibara, to no avail. As they call the police and Inspector Yuminaga turns up, they are surprised to find in a nearby teepee tent another camper, who is revealed to be Kuroda.<br /> <br /> === File 988 - Violation ===<br /> Kuroda says he saw everything from his tent and can certify the victim's three friends are the only ones who came to the tent before it burned. Rumi and Kuroda seem to know each other and start speaking to one another in a cold and fearless manner. Kuroda also keeps an eye on Conan who tries to investigate the case with Yuminaga, who knows him well (Vol. 39, 60 and 61). Haibara and Conan have a suspicion that Rumi-sensei cannot see through her right eye. Rumi seems out of sorts when Kuroda is around, though she gives Conan a few clues to solve the case.<br /> <br /> === File 989 - Buzzer Beater ===<br /> &lt;spoiler&gt;<br /> The culprit is '''Sumito Ashizawa'''. He made a kind of rocker arm with candles to set fire to the tent later on, Urushibara being asleep and him being away from the tent. He therefore lured the others into believing the candles' movement was actually due to Urushibara doing squats in the tent, implying he was alive and that only Danno could have been the murderer, as he came to the tent after the squats. Ashizawa had put the victim in a sitting position and stuck his hands together behind his head with his own plasters to prevent him from escaping when the burning tent would wake him up. Which means the police will find Ashizawa's hair and fingerprints, along with DNA and skin particles, on the plaster which didn't burn. Not forgetting the cutter he used to escape the tent after locking it from the inside, which has probably some canvas fibers on his blade. Ashizawa says it's indeed the case and uses his cutter to take Ayumi hostage, saying he had asked the victim to damage Danno's eye, to further his own career. But when the 'accident' caused permanent damage, Ashizawa was being blackmailed by the victim, who intended to continue with it. Ashizawa says he'll jump from a cliff with Ayumi, who passes out in fear. As Conan is completely powerless due to leaving his main gadgets in their tent, Rumi comes closer to Ashizawa and orders him to let go of her pupil, and if not to stab her at once, if he desires it so much. She even proposes to help him in doing so, and Ashizawa gets paralysed in fear. Kuroda eventually neutralises him and Ayumi is saved. Conan suspects Rumi even more but Haibara tells him to stop it as she likes her teacher. As Heiji wins a fight with verve, his rival follows him closely behind : Soshi Okita, Shinichi's lookalike he met during a previous case (&quot;Naniwa Murder Case&quot;, Vol. 31). Heiji says to himself he can't but get even with Okita today, he has to win, for Kazuha. The competition pauses for lunch time, and Ran says she'll go to the bathroom before they all go and eat in a diner. Since too many people are queuing in front of the bathroom, Ran asks if therer's another one, and is told to go and have a try at the north entrance's one. Meanwhile, Momiji and Iori are on the phone, Iori informing Momiji of Heiji's high rankings in the competition, while Momiji asks him if everything is ready for the &quot;little party&quot; after Heiji's victory. Iori adds Heiji may confront Okita and another kendo practitioner, &quot;as strong as a demon&quot;.<br /> <br /> In a garden, Shido Nukitani, a kendo match referee, swallows some digestion medicine as a Kyoto Senshin kendo student comes up to him. Nukitani says he expected someone to come along, as this garden serves as a training pitch for kendo fighters during pauses, and adds &quot;he'd better not to do it for now, and not to damage the place&quot;. Suddenly, the kendo student grabs his sabre and slits Nukitani's thorat in one blow, in a flash, without him being just able to react. The murderer then turns around in fear as an old man sitting on a bench behind him says he heard a voice and asks if there's anyone around that could tell him what's happening. The murderer realises the old man is blind and spares his life, leaving the place.<br /> <br /> Ran and Conan notice the bathroom which is exactly in the garden where the old man is. They find the corpse of Nukitani and Conan says the murder is recent and the killer must not be far. They see the old man on the bench, who tells them he's been blind for three years now. He came in the garden to hear the sounds of kendo fights, that remind him of the time when he was a young kendo practitioner. Conan tells him he probably heard the culprit, and the man replies the murderer said something like &quot;the cutter is covered in blood, I can't use it anymore, bring me a new one&quot;. He adds the criminal was speaking with a woman but he didn't heard her words. He says the killer was probably phoning her. The man tells Conan actually the murderer didn't leave the place and went directly to the bathroom. Two other people went to the bathroom as well, but neither them nor the culprit went out of it.<br /> <br /> Conan suggests they call the police and keep an eye on the bathroom, as the murderer may still be armed and has an accomplice. Conan notices Nukitani doesn't show any signs of struggle on his body, implying he probably knew the culprit or knew something that made him drop his guard. Conan is joined by a high school kendo practitioner he thought was Heiji but actually is Okita, who says Nukitani's absence of struggling reminds him of tsujigiris (wanton murders of random passers-by by samurais in the past, when they wanted to try out a new sabre's efficiency). He adds the sabre's blow was deadly, perfect and neat, the work of an expert. Okita introduces himself to Conan, saying he's from Kyoto Senshin kendo club - just like the murderer, something Conan is ignorant of.<br /> <br /> === File 991 - Hands Off! ===<br /> Okita introduces himself to Ran who remembers him to be Heiji's rival. Okita starts hitting on Ran, proposing her to come to Kyoto some day and to call him to show her around. Ran is reminded of Shinichi when looking at Okita. The latter tells Conan what he also meant by the murderer being an expert : Nukitani wears kendo referee clothes, and as referees must have an expert level, he was probably killed by a kendo practitioner of the same level as him, or even better. As Ran is once again reminded of Shinichi's investigation skills, Okita makes another move on her but gets hit on the head by Heiji's bokken, who asks him to stand away from his best friend's girl. Heiji had come to train with Okita, knowing he would come in this garden during competition pauses. Okita came to train as well but not to fight Heiji, instead someone even stronger than Heiji.<br /> <br /> Takagi and Sato turn up and question Yasuoka, the old man. The two police inspectors prepare to storm the bathroom but suddenly two men and a woman emerge quietly from their respective rooms. Heiji and Conan can't believe none of them is covered in blood at all. Norimura, a kendo referee, rushes to Nukitani as he sees him unconscious and blood-drenched, but is stopped by Okita who tells him he's the n°1 suspect for being a kendo expert. Norimura replies he was never able to defeat Nukitani during competitions, who had an even better level than him. As Okita suggests he could have killed him to revenge, the other suspects Sadamori and Yokote pretend not to know who Nukitani is. Conan says Sadamori lies as the forensic shows her a rather equivocal selfie of her and Nukitani on this latter's phone. Norimura remembers Nukitani told him one of his former students would harass him and had a crush on him, she worked in Japan Self-Defense Forces. Sadamori confesses to having practised kendo for three years at high school as Nukitani was her P.E. teacher. She lied not to be involved in the case, as when she came to the bathroom Nukitani was already dead, and she was too afraid to call police, and went hiding in the ladies'.<br /> <br /> Norimura says he was in a hurry and rushed to the bathroom without probably noticing Nukitani. Same thing for Yokote who just didn't want to miss the rest of the competition. As he claims not to know the victim neither kendo, Sadamori calls him a liar and recalls seeing Yokote in a café where she was with Nukitani. Yokote was with his girlfriend bragging about his countless kendo competiton victories with his famous &quot;face attack&quot;, and got in a row with Nukitani when the latter asked which competition it was. The girlfriend then got it he was a liar and left the café at once, infuriated. Yokote replies he also heard Sadamori threatening to kill Nukitani if he didn't leave his wife for her. He also reminds Norimura of the row he had with Nukitani after a competition, what Norimura acknowledges, saying he told Nukitani he thought he was refereeing with too much leniency at the moment, to which Nukitani told him harshly to try and defeat him before telling him how to do his work. Sato therefore remarks they all have the ability and motive to murder him.<br /> <br /> Ran says the old Yasuoka can recognise the murderer's voice, a rather hoarse one, just like the victim. He says the conversation he heard was before the victim's pain grunt, which means the victim could have been killed by the accomplice. The forensic says Nukitani last phoned to...his wife, who is coming momentarily. Takagi suggets either Nukitani or the murderer deleted the real contact person Nukitani phoned to before the murder. Behind the bathroom, Okita finds out a bloody complete kendo dogi (clothes) and armor, equidistant from both rooms' windows, implying we can't know if a man or a woman threw it away. Okita sees it's a Kyoto Senshin armor and remembers not long ago people reported the mysterious theft of a reservists' armor, serving for everybody, even Norimura, who calls it a spare armor, he used it as well not long ago but didn't steal it.<br /> <br /> Given it's impossible to find fingerprints or footprints as it is used by everyone and worn over clothes, Sato tells Takagi to go and cancel the competition. Heiji stops him and asks him to wait another 40 minutes, the remaining time before competition resumes, as he wants to win it to confess his love to Kazuha, and there's still some time then to try and solve the case. Heiji believes he will defeat Okita, and Okita proposes to settle it right now, not to waste any time.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, Kazuha is worrying about Conan's and Ran's whereabouts, as the competition will resume very soon. The truth is that Tengo is her half-brother from an extra-marital affair of her father's, a congressman, a fact which had been kept a family secret due to the impact that its revelation would entail on the politician's publicity. However, the situation is remedied when Tengo has a stern exchange with Meisuke over the phone and sends over a video clip message detailing his and Yui's relationship, meaning to entrust his sister to him.<br /> <br /> It's revealed that 'Shinichi Wada' is actually Muga Iori, the butler of Momiji Ooka's family. They manage to rescue her in time and incapacitate the criminals. It turns out that the criminals are husbands (a domestic abuser, an adulterer, and a gambler) who lost against Eri in their divorce cases and decided to take revenge. Their intention was to make a video of Eri naked and make her apologies to them, although with her continued evasion of them, the leader had changed his intention to rape. Shiratori advises him to take a holiday and go camping for a few days. Rumi takes the Detective Boys camping as well. They end up talking with some other campers, who are members of a basketball team. One of them, Danno, had a recent irreversible eye injury and now wears a prosthetic eye, frightening Conan and Haibara who try to figure out if Rumi has a prosthetic eye as well and could be Rum. Urushibara, one of the campers they meet, suddenly starts speaking and acting in a very obnoxious manner to his friends, and shuts himself away in their tent. Soon after, a fire starts in the tent and he gets burned to death. They try to put it out and save Urushibara, to no avail. As they call the police and Inspector Yuminaga turns up, they are surprised to find in a nearby teepee tent another camper, who is revealed to be Kuroda.<br /> <br /> === File 988 - Violation ===<br /> Kuroda says he saw everything from his tent and can certify the victim's three friends are the only ones who came to the tent before it burned. Rumi and Kuroda seem to know each other and start speaking to one another in a cold and fearless manner. Kuroda also keeps an eye on Conan who tries to investigate the case with Yuminaga, who knows him well (Vol. 39, 60 and 61). Haibara and Conan have a suspicion that Rumi-sensei cannot see through her right eye. Rumi seems out of sorts when Kuroda is around, though she gives Conan a few clues to solve the case.<br /> <br /> === File 989 - Buzzer Beater ===<br /> &lt;spoiler&gt;<br /> The culprit is '''Sumito Ashizawa'''. He made a kind of rocker arm with candles to set fire to the tent later on, Urushibara being asleep and him being away from the tent. He therefore lured the others into believing the candles' movement was actually due to Urushibara doing squats in the tent, implying he was alive and that only Danno could have been the murderer, as he came to the tent after the squats. Ashizawa had put the victim in a sitting position and stuck his hands together behind his head with his own plasters to prevent him from escaping when the burning tent would wake him up. Which means the police will find Ashizawa's hair and fingerprints, along with DNA and skin particles, on the plaster which didn't burn. Not forgetting the cutter he used to escape the tent after locking it from the inside, which has probably some canvas fibers on his blade. Ashizawa says it's indeed the case and uses his cutter to take Ayumi hostage, saying he had asked the victim to damage Danno's eye, to further his own career. But when the 'accident' caused permanent damage, Ashizawa was being blackmailed by the victim, who intended to continue with it. Ashizawa says he'll jump from a cliff with Ayumi, who passes out in fear. As Conan is completely powerless due to leaving his main gadgets in their tent, Rumi comes closer to Ashizawa and orders him to let go of her pupil, and if not to stab her at once, if he desires it so much. She even proposes to help him in doing so, and Ashizawa gets paralysed in fear. Kuroda eventually neutralises him and Ayumi is saved. Conan suspects Rumi even more but Haibara tells him to stop it as she likes her teacher. As Heiji wins a fight with verve, his rival follows him closely behind : Soshi Okita, Shinichi's lookalike he met during a previous case (&quot;Naniwa Murder Case&quot;, Vol. 31). Heiji says to himself he can't but get even with Okita today, he has to win, for Kazuha. The competition pauses for lunch time, and Ran says she'll go to the bathroom before they all go and eat in a diner. Since too many people are queuing in front of the bathroom, Ran asks if therer's another one, and is told to go and have a try at the north entrance's one. Meanwhile, Momiji and Iori are on the phone, Iori informing Momiji of Heiji's high rankings in the competition, while Momiji asks him if everything is ready for the &quot;little party&quot; after Heiji's victory. Iori adds Heiji may confront Okita and another kendo practitioner, &quot;as strong as a demon&quot;.<br /> <br /> In a garden, Shido Nukitani, a kendo match referee, swallows some digestion medicine as a Kyoto Senshin kendo student comes up to him. Nukitani says he expected someone to come along, as this garden serves as a training pitch for kendo fighters during pauses, and adds &quot;he'd better not to do it for now, and not to damage the place&quot;. Suddenly, the kendo student grabs his sabre and slits Nukitani's thorat in one blow, in a flash, without him being just able to react. The murderer then turns around in fear as an old man sitting on a bench behind him says he heard a voice and asks if there's anyone around that could tell him what's happening. The murderer realises the old man is blind and spares his life, leaving the place.<br /> <br /> Ran and Conan notice the bathroom which is exactly in the garden where the old man is. They find the corpse of Nukitani and Conan says the murder is recent and the killer must not be far. They see the old man on the bench, who tells them he's been blind for three years now. He came in the garden to hear the sounds of kendo fights, that remind him of the time when he was a young kendo practitioner. Conan tells him he probably heard the culprit, and the man replies the murderer said something like &quot;the cutter is covered in blood, I can't use it anymore, bring me a new one&quot;. He adds the criminal was speaking with a woman but he didn't heard her words. He says the killer was probably phoning her. The man tells Conan actually the murderer didn't leave the place and went directly to the bathroom. Two other people went to the bathroom as well, but neither them nor the culprit went out of it.<br /> <br /> Conan suggests they call the police and keep an eye on the bathroom, as the murderer may still be armed and has an accomplice. Conan notices Nukitani doesn't show any signs of struggle on his body, implying he probably knew the culprit or knew something that made him drop his guard. Conan is joined by a high school kendo practitioner he thought was Heiji but actually is Okita, who says Nukitani's absence of struggling reminds him of tsujigiris (wanton murders of random passers-by by samurais in the past, when they wanted to try out a new sabre's efficiency). He adds the sabre's blow was deadly, perfect and neat, the work of an expert. Okita introduces himself to Conan, saying he's from Kyoto Senshin kendo club - just like the murderer, something Conan is ignorant of.<br /> <br /> === File 991 - Hands Off! ===<br /> Okita introduces himself to Ran who remembers him to be Heiji's rival. Okita starts hitting on Ran, proposing her to come to Kyoto some day and to call him to show her around. Ran is reminded of Shinichi when looking at Okita. The latter tells Conan what he also meant by the murderer being an expert : Nukitani wears kendo referee clothes, and as referees must have an expert level, he was probably killed by a kendo practitioner of the same level as him, or even better. As Ran is once again reminded of Shinichi's investigation skills, Okita makes another move on her but gets hit on the head by Heiji's bokken, who asks him to stand away from his best friend's girl. Heiji had come to train with Okita, knowing he would come in this garden during competition pauses. Okita came to train as well but not to fight Heiji, instead someone even stronger than Heiji.<br /> <br /> Takagi and Sato turn up and question Yasuoka, the old man. The two police inspectors prepare to storm the bathroom but suddenly two men and a woman emerge quietly from their respective rooms. Heiji and Conan can't believe none of them is covered in blood at all. Norimura, a kendo referee, rushes to Nukitani as he sees him unconscious and blood-drenched, but is stopped by Okita who tells him he's the n°1 suspect for being a kendo expert. Norimura replies he was never able to defeat Nukitani during competitions, who had an even better level than him. As Okita suggests he could have killed him to revenge, the other suspects Sadamori and Yokote pretend not to know who Nukitani is. Conan says Sadamori lies as the forensic shows her a rather equivocal selfie of her and Nukitani on this latter's phone. Norimura remembers Nukitani told him one of his former students would harass him and had a crush on him, she worked in Japan Self-Defense Forces. Sadamori confesses to having practised kendo for three years at high school as Nukitani was her P.E. teacher. She lied not to be involved in the case, as when she came to the bathroom Nukitani was already dead, and she was too afraid to call police, and went hiding in the ladies'.<br /> <br /> Norimura says he was in a hurry and rushed to the bathroom without probably noticing Nukitani. Same thing for Yokote who just didn't want to miss the rest of the competition. As he claims not to know the victim neither kendo, Sadamori calls him a liar and recalls seeing Yokote in a café where she was with Nukitani. Yokote was with his girlfriend bragging about his countless kendo competiton victories with his famous &quot;face attack&quot;, and got in a row with Nukitani when the latter asked which competition it was. The girlfriend then got it he was a liar and left the café at once, infuriated. Yokote replies he also heard Sadamori threatening to kill Nukitani if he didn't leave his wife for her. He also reminds Norimura of the row he had with Nukitani after a competition, what Norimura acknowledges, saying he told Nukitani he thought he was refereeing with too much leniency at the moment, to which Nukitani told him harshly to try and defeat him before telling him how to do his work. Sato therefore remarks they all have the ability and motive to murder him.<br /> <br /> Ran says the old Yasuoka can recognise the murderer's voice, a rather hoarse one, just like the victim. He says the conversation he heard was before the victim's pain grunt, which means the victim could have been killed by the accomplice. The forensic says Nukitani last phoned to...his wife, who is coming momentarily. Takagi suggets either Nukitani or the murderer deleted the real contact person Nukitani phoned to before the murder. Behind the bathroom, Okita finds out a bloody complete kendo dogi (clothes) and armor, equidistant from both rooms' windows, implying we can't know if a man or a woman threw it away. Okita sees it's a Kyoto Senshin armor and remembers not long ago people reported the mysterious theft of a reservists' armor, serving for everybody, even Norimura, who calls it a spare armor, he used it as well not long ago but didn't steal it.<br /> <br /> Given it's impossible to find fingerprints or footprints as it is used by everyone and worn over clothes, Sato tells Takagi to go and cancel the competition. Heiji stops him and asks him to wait another 40 minutes, the remaining time before competition resumes, as he wants to win it to confess his love to Kazuha, and there's still some time then to try and solve the case. Heiji believes he will defeat Okita, and Okita proposes to settle it right now, not to waste any time.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, Kazuha is worrying about Conan's and Ran's whereabouts, as the competition will resume very soon. They manage to rescue her in time and incapacitate the criminals. It turns out that the criminals are husbands (a domestic abuser, an adulterer, and a gambler) who lost against Eri in their divorce cases and decided to take revenge. Their intention was to make a video of Eri naked and make her apologies to them, although with her continued evasion of them, the leader had changed his intention to rape. Shiratori advises him to take a holiday and go camping for a few days. Rumi takes the Detective Boys camping as well. They end up talking with some other campers, who are members of a basketball team. One of them, Danno, had a recent irreversible eye injury and now wears a prosthetic eye, frightening Conan and Haibara who try to figure out if Rumi has a prosthetic eye as well and could be Rum. Urushibara, one of the campers they meet, suddenly starts speaking and acting in a very obnoxious manner to his friends, and shuts himself away in their tent. Soon after, a fire starts in the tent and he gets burned to death. They try to put it out and save Urushibara, to no avail. As they call the police and Inspector Yuminaga turns up, they are surprised to find in a nearby teepee tent another camper, who is revealed to be Kuroda.<br /> <br /> === File 988 - Violation ===<br /> Kuroda says he saw everything from his tent and can certify the victim's three friends are the only ones who came to the tent before it burned. Rumi and Kuroda seem to know each other and start speaking to one another in a cold and fearless manner. Kuroda also keeps an eye on Conan who tries to investigate the case with Yuminaga, who knows him well (Vol. 39, 60 and 61). Haibara and Conan have a suspicion that Rumi-sensei cannot see through her right eye. Rumi seems out of sorts when Kuroda is around, though she gives Conan a few clues to solve the case.<br /> <br /> === File 989 - Buzzer Beater ===<br /> &lt;spoiler&gt;<br /> The culprit is '''Sumito Ashizawa'''. He made a kind of rocker arm with candles to set fire to the tent later on, Urushibara being asleep and him being away from the tent. He therefore lured the others into believing the candles' movement was actually due to Urushibara doing squats in the tent, implying he was alive and that only Danno could have been the murderer, as he came to the tent after the squats. Ashizawa had put the victim in a sitting position and stuck his hands together behind his head with his own plasters to prevent him from escaping when the burning tent would wake him up. Which means the police will find Ashizawa's hair and fingerprints, along with DNA and skin particles, on the plaster which didn't burn. Not forgetting the cutter he used to escape the tent after locking it from the inside, which has probably some canvas fibers on his blade. Ashizawa says it's indeed the case and uses his cutter to take Ayumi hostage, saying he had asked the victim to damage Danno's eye, to further his own career. But when the 'accident' caused permanent damage, Ashizawa was being blackmailed by the victim, who intended to continue with it. Ashizawa says he'll jump from a cliff with Ayumi, who passes out in fear. As Conan is completely powerless due to leaving his main gadgets in their tent, Rumi comes closer to Ashizawa and orders him to let go of her pupil, and if not to stab her at once, if he desires it so much. She even proposes to help him in doing so, and Ashizawa gets paralysed in fear. Kuroda eventually neutralises him and Ayumi is saved. Conan suspects Rumi even more but Haibara tells him to stop it as she likes her teacher. As Heiji wins a fight with verve, his rival follows him closely behind : Soshi Okita, Shinichi's lookalike he met during a previous case (&quot;Naniwa Murder Case&quot;, Vol. 31). Heiji says to himself he can't but get even with Okita today, he has to win, for Kazuha. The competition pauses for lunch time, and Ran says she'll go to the bathroom before they all go and eat in a diner. Since too many people are queuing in front of the bathroom, Ran asks if therer's another one, and is told to go and have a try at the north entrance's one. Meanwhile, Momiji and Iori are on the phone, Iori informing Momiji of Heiji's high rankings in the competition, while Momiji asks him if everything is ready for the &quot;little party&quot; after Heiji's victory. Iori adds Heiji may confront Okita and another kendo practitioner, &quot;as strong as a demon&quot;.<br /> <br /> In a garden, Shido Nukitani, a kendo match referee, swallows some digestion medicine as a Kyoto Senshin kendo student comes up to him. Nukitani says he expected someone to come along, as this garden serves as a training pitch for kendo fighters during pauses, and adds &quot;he'd better not to do it for now, and not to damage the place&quot;. Suddenly, the kendo student grabs his sabre and slits Nukitani's thorat in one blow, in a flash, without him being just able to react. The murderer then turns around in fear as an old man sitting on a bench behind him says he heard a voice and asks if there's anyone around that could tell him what's happening. The murderer realises the old man is blind and spares his life, leaving the place.<br /> <br /> Ran and Conan notice the bathroom which is exactly in the garden where the old man is. They find the corpse of Nukitani and Conan says the murder is recent and the killer must not be far. They see the old man on the bench, who tells them he's been blind for three years now. He came in the garden to hear the sounds of kendo fights, that remind him of the time when he was a young kendo practitioner. Conan tells him he probably heard the culprit, and the man replies the murderer said something like &quot;the cutter is covered in blood, I can't use it anymore, bring me a new one&quot;. He adds the criminal was speaking with a woman but he didn't heard her words. He says the killer was probably phoning her. The man tells Conan actually the murderer didn't leave the place and went directly to the bathroom. Two other people went to the bathroom as well, but neither them nor the culprit went out of it.<br /> <br /> Conan suggests they call the police and keep an eye on the bathroom, as the murderer may still be armed and has an accomplice. Conan notices Nukitani doesn't show any signs of struggle on his body, implying he probably knew the culprit or knew something that made him drop his guard. Conan is joined by a high school kendo practitioner he thought was Heiji but actually is Okita, who says Nukitani's absence of struggling reminds him of tsujigiris (wanton murders of random passers-by by samurais in the past, when they wanted to try out a new sabre's efficiency). He adds the sabre's blow was deadly, perfect and neat, the work of an expert. Okita introduces himself to Conan, saying he's from Kyoto Senshin kendo club - just like the murderer, something Conan is ignorant of.<br /> <br /> === File 991 - Hands Off! ===<br /> Okita introduces himself to Ran who remembers him to be Heiji's rival. Okita starts hitting on Ran, proposing her to come to Kyoto some day and to call him to show her around. Ran is reminded of Shinichi when looking at Okita. The latter tells Conan what he also meant by the murderer being an expert : Nukitani wears kendo referee clothes, and as referees must have an expert level, he was probably killed by a kendo practitioner of the same level as him, or even better. As Ran is once again reminded of Shinichi's investigation skills, Okita makes another move on her but gets hit on the head by Heiji's bokken, who asks him to stand away from his best friend's girl. Heiji had come to train with Okita, knowing he would come in this garden during competition pauses. Okita came to train as well but not to fight Heiji, instead someone even stronger than Heiji.<br /> <br /> Takagi and Sato turn up and question Yasuoka, the old man. The two police inspectors prepare to storm the bathroom but suddenly two men and a woman emerge quietly from their respective rooms. Heiji and Conan can't believe none of them is covered in blood at all. Norimura, a kendo referee, rushes to Nukitani as he sees him unconscious and blood-drenched, but is stopped by Okita who tells him he's the n°1 suspect for being a kendo expert. Norimura replies he was never able to defeat Nukitani during competitions, who had an even better level than him. As Okita suggests he could have killed him to revenge, the other suspects Sadamori and Yokote pretend not to know who Nukitani is. Conan says Sadamori lies as the forensic shows her a rather equivocal selfie of her and Nukitani on this latter's phone. Norimura remembers Nukitani told him one of his former students would harass him and had a crush on him, she worked in Japan Self-Defense Forces. Sadamori confesses to having practised kendo for three years at high school as Nukitani was her P.E. teacher. She lied not to be involved in the case, as when she came to the bathroom Nukitani was already dead, and she was too afraid to call police, and went hiding in the ladies'.<br /> <br /> Norimura says he was in a hurry and rushed to the bathroom without probably noticing Nukitani. Same thing for Yokote who just didn't want to miss the rest of the competition. As he claims not to know the victim neither kendo, Sadamori calls him a liar and recalls seeing Yokote in a café where she was with Nukitani. Yokote was with his girlfriend bragging about his countless kendo competiton victories with his famous &quot;face attack&quot;, and got in a row with Nukitani when the latter asked which competition it was. The girlfriend then got it he was a liar and left the café at once, infuriated. Yokote replies he also heard Sadamori threatening to kill Nukitani if he didn't leave his wife for her. He also reminds Norimura of the row he had with Nukitani after a competition, what Norimura acknowledges, saying he told Nukitani he thought he was refereeing with too much leniency at the moment, to which Nukitani told him harshly to try and defeat him before telling him how to do his work. Sato therefore remarks they all have the ability and motive to murder him.<br /> <br /> Ran says the old Yasuoka can recognise the murderer's voice, a rather hoarse one, just like the victim. He says the conversation he heard was before the victim's pain grunt, which means the victim could have been killed by the accomplice. The forensic says Nukitani last phoned to...his wife, who is coming momentarily. Takagi suggets either Nukitani or the murderer deleted the real contact person Nukitani phoned to before the murder. Behind the bathroom, Okita finds out a bloody complete kendo dogi (clothes) and armor, equidistant from both rooms' windows, implying we can't know if a man or a woman threw it away. Okita sees it's a Kyoto Senshin armor and remembers not long ago people reported the mysterious theft of a reservists' armor, serving for everybody, even Norimura, who calls it a spare armor, he used it as well not long ago but didn't steal it.<br /> <br /> Given it's impossible to find fingerprints or footprints as it is used by everyone and worn over clothes, Sato tells Takagi to go and cancel the competition. Heiji stops him and asks him to wait another 40 minutes, the remaining time before competition resumes, as he wants to win it to confess his love to Kazuha, and there's still some time then to try and solve the case. Heiji believes he will defeat Okita, and Okita proposes to settle it right now, not to waste any time.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, Kazuha is worrying about Conan's and Ran's whereabouts, as the competition will resume very soon.
