The killer was '''Shugo Matsui'''. Matsui had made the footprints in advance, putting the paint there and making it seem Adachi did. He had used only Gomera's feet, since there was no tail mark on the floor. He then took off the suit at the stairs, ran into a storage room downstairs and threw the costume out the window on fire. The wound on his leg was faked at first, using studio blood. After the murder incident, he stabbed his own leg with a separate knife and hid it in the props box. To hide the sign of sweat, he changed shirts, which also had a spill of juice from Ayumi who spilled it on his shirt earlier.

The news that Matsui was tired of playing Gomera and wanted to move onto other roles was a rumor spread by Kamei. Matsui was unaware of the rumor until he found out himself. Not wanting the final Gomera movie to be made, he killed Kamei.

* This is the first time that Conan uses Agasa for his deduction show. Agasa sometimes forgets to match his mouth with Conan's talking, and also sometimes talks over Conan, traits that he sometimes still does when Conan uses him for a deduction. Conan also almost gets caught by the Detective Boys, shooing them off when they ask why he is talking into a bowtie.
*This is also the first anime episode in which Conan wears casual clothes instead of his traditional suit-like outfits.
*"Gomera" is a reference to Toho's Gozilla Kaiju franchise. The fairy that calms Gomera's rage is a reference to the twin fairies from Toho's Mothra series, in which Mothra becomes enraged whenever the fairies are threatened and only the fairies can calm Mothra.
*Another kaiju that possibly used as model is Gamera which has similar name and long lower canine.
* This is the first meeting between Megure and Agasa.

The version of this song used in the TV show is different to the version released in all GARNET CROW CDs featuring this song.

In the opening credits, both the song title and band name were shown in katakana, although they are both normally written in English letters.

This song was the first major debut single released by GARNET CROW, along with a simultaneous release of their indie hit "Kimi no uchi ni tsuku made zutto hashitte yuku". Due to its coverage on TV, Mysterious Eyes gained notably more sales. To this day, "Mysterious Eyes" is one of GARNET CROW's most recognised songs.

The song appeared on the first album, "first soundscope ~Mizu no Nai Hareta Umi he~". GARNET CROW guitarist Okamoto Hitoshi released a different version under his solo name, SUPER LIGHT.

He later saves her when he takes a knife in the arm for her, to protect her from getting killed by a crazed serial killer.<ref name=Summer /> This is when Ran finally realizes that he is the famous karate champion. After defeating the killer, he confesses his feelings for her, which leaves Sonoko dumbfounded and flustered.<ref name=Summer /> According to Makoto, he originally met Sonoko during one of Ran's tournaments, and loved how feisty and firey she was in trying to cheer her friend on.<ref name=Summer /> After this, Sonoko and Makoto begin a long distance relationship.<ref name=Summer />

Sonoko often wants to show Makoto that her feelings for him are stronger than he thinks, planning simple ideas to make him feel special. However, these often go in awry, as she either cannot make what she had planned to make, like when she promised to make him a home-made sweater, but had to resort to buying one in a mall,<ref name=Megure>[[Megure's Locked Away Secret|Episode 217-218: Megure's Locked Away Secret]]</ref> or Makoto has no idea what she gave him is, like when he believed that the pottery she sent him was supposed to be for flowers.<ref name=Pottery>[[The Murderous Pottery Class|Episode 228-229: The Murderous Pottery Class]]</ref> Sonoko keeps a photo of Makoto in her bag, and uses it as a good luck charm for when she takes exams.<ref name=Photo>[[Trembling Metropolitan Police Headquarters 12 Million Hostages|Episode 304: Trembling Metropolitan Police Headquarters 12 Million Hostages]]</ref> She has also made him a chocolate, trying to make him feel jealous by not saying who it was more, thus forcing him to visit her in a snow lodge to ask her what was going on.<ref name=Valentine /> When he finds out that indeed, she made him the chocolate, he gets very embarrassed himself.<ref name=Valentine />

Although long distance relationships can be hard to be in, Sonoko has stayed faithful to Makoto, other than dreaming of meeting up with the Kaitou Kid, though this is mostly to see him up close more than anything else.

== Sonoko and Makoto moments ==

=== Episode 153-154: Sonoko's Dangerous Summer Story Arc ===
*[[Makoto Kyogoku]], makes his debut in the series, as a waiter to Sonoko, Conan, Ran, and Sonoko's "potential boyfriend", Tadahiko Michiwaki, a Beika University student. Makoto puts Michiwaki's beer down, hardly, on the table, and then, rudely, begins to order him not to leave his cigarette's ashes on the floor.

*Sonoko infroms she knows some background on Makoto, because he kept looking at them, near the entrance. He probably did this because of his secret love for Sonoko, though she didn't know it at the time.

*Makoto abruptly comes in between Sonoko and Michiwaki, with their ordered fried noodles. He then, rudely states for them, particulary towards Michiwaki, to leave, to let others eat. He probably thought the two were going to kiss, and, out of jealousy, stopped as he saw possible.

*At the Karawuya Hotel, the trio are waiting for Michiwaki to show up, to go on their "date", while it's raining outside. Makoto appears next to Sonoko, and leaves an umbrella next to her, wanting her to use it, if she needs it.

*Makoto quickly entered the room Sonoko was nearly killed in, and begins to berate her for wearing revealing clothing which might be the reason why he attacked her. He then, persuades her and the others to change their room and stay at the hot for dinner, since the culprit might be closer then they realize. At dinner, Makoto tells Sonoko the meal for her and her friends, is free.

*Makoto follows the gang to a popular restaurant, in order to see Sonoko. After Conan notices Michiwaki's car rolling down the hill, with a sleepy Sonoko inside, Makoto quickly follows Conan and Ran, in order to help Sonoko, but is stopped by the supervisor, who explains, he has to pay his bill.

*An angered Makoto demands an answer from Michiwaki why he didn't put an emergency brake on his car, which could have caused Sonoko's death.

*As Michiwaki was about to kill Sonoko, Makoto came to her rescue, even though, he got stabbed with a knife, and proceded to cooly defeat the crazed murdered, with his superb Karate skills, which gained him the nickname, "The Prince of Attack". Sonoko learned he was following her, to make sure she didn't get hurt, since Michiwaki was talking to a few other girls, before Sonoko met him. Sonoko asked him why he would do this for a total stranger, and he reveals he remembered her from a previous Karate tournament, and how she, "cheered fo her best friend, with all her energy", causing Sonoko to blush. Before Makoto leaves, he saids the words that made the young girl's face to instantaneously turn neon pink, was as followed:

*Sonoko thinks Makoto is being a cold to her for not calling her for awhile.

*Sonoko takes out her new cell phone, and, while staring at it, she thinks about Makoto and silently calls him an "idiot."

*Makoto finally calls Sonoko to tell her he won a huge Karate tournament, but Sonoko calls him "stupid" over and over with tears in her eyes, yelling at him for not calling her, since she bought a new cellphone only for him. Makoto apologizes, explaining he didn't want to bother her with unimportant things, which Sonoko privately thinks, "He doesn't get it." Then, Makoto gives her caution about the lowering temperature in Japan, and that she shouldn't wear any short skirts, to which she, in a girly manner, replies she isn't wearing one, but actually she is.

[[Conan Edogawa|Conan]], [[Ran Mouri|Ran]], and [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]] arrive in Hiroshima to meet a film crew whom plan to film them touring Miyajima, Hiroshima. The assistant producer, Yuuichi Kitamura, gets a severe stomach pain that causes him to be bedridden. They take a ferry to Miyajima and begin filming. In front of Itsukushima Shrine, a crew member finds out salt was added to his drink; the film crew then notice a familiar man in a crowd and assume him to be at fault. One of the crew tells Conan that man may be probing the crew since it is suspected one of them is running an illegal casino. The film crew arrives at a red-leaf bun pastry shop owned by Yayoi Ayase which has a specialty of red-leaf bun called Misen's Seven Wonders, based on the seven wonders of Mount Misen: The eternal flame of Daishō-in, The plum tree grown from Kūkai's khakkhara, a boulder that ebb and flows the salt water of Hiroshima Bay, a boulder inscribed with Kūkai's writing, the sound of a goblin's clapping, a special cherry blossom that undergoes deciduous all season long, and and lights dubbed as dragon fire over Hiroshima Bay. Conan notices a photograph depicting the crew members in the past and is told the crew were in Miyajima two years ago for filming; He then notices the man spotted at the shrine in another picture who is revealed to be Shinroku Ayase, Yayoi's brother. Yayoi explains her parents fell to their death on Misen two years prior and Shinroku investigated the cause. Two weeks ago, he disappears for unknown reasons. As the filming continues, a crew member finds his ring tone has been changed to clappers and another has been thrown an etched rock.

Conan relates these to the seven wonders and explains the salted drink is related to the ebb and flow boulder, and Kitamura's cherry blossom tie is related to Misen's cherry blossom tree. A crew is is found bludgeoned with a khakkhara and Yayoi's bakery is set ablaze; the witnesses claims it is the work of Shinroku.

That night at the hotel, the culprit attempts to sneak into a room and attack someone but is ambushed by the crew and police. They reveal they moved that person away and declare the culprit to be '''Yuuichi Kitamura'''. Conan tranquilizes Kogoro and reveals Kitamura was the cause of Yayoi's parent's deaths as he had been hiking in a dangerous area and a button of his was found by Shinroku. Shinroku realized who the button belonged to two weeks prior when he saw a picture of the old crew and investigated Kitamura in Tokyo. When Shinroku met with Kitamura in Hiroshima, Kitamura drugged him with sleeping pills and disguised him as himself to establish an alibi. Kitamura then disguised himself as Shinroku and followed the film crew to Miyajima. Shinroku, the man whom was moved, appears and confirms Conan's deduction. Conan continues and explains Kitamura was also the one leading the illegal casino. Kitamura confesses to all three crimes and laments he lost control of the three situations and his solutions to them were immoral.
