Not much is given about Toichi as Kaitou Kid. However, we do know that at some point in time, a dark organization forced him to steal gems to find [[Pandora Gem |Pandora]]. His refusal led to his death in a "magic accident."

After the death of Toichi, Jii lived by himself. Over the course of eight years, he grew angrier and angrier until he donned the costume of Kaitou Kid in order to lure out the organization that killed Toichi. He was only dressed as Kid twice before Kaito took over.

=== Kaito as Kid ===
In both civilian and costumed life, Kaitou Kid is a compulsive trickster who is drawn to any challenge just for the sheer thrill of overcoming all hazards in the end. Kid is infamous for having a rather overconfident (close to the point of arrogance) attitude, always preferring to create as big a bang as possible. He loves nothing more then leading the police in wild goose chases, letting them get within a hair of catching him before exiting one way or another. Seemingly having a soft-spot for his fans, there has been more then one occasion when Kid has refused to show when the police tried to bar the general public from witnessing his act. Generally, when these instances occur, one of Kid's tricks rely, one way or another, on his ability to blend in with a crowd.

Kaitou Kid is also quite a charmer, seeming to always know just what to say to the ladies to leave them speechless. Kid hates to see others get hurt, and he never hesitates in leaping to rescue someone, whether physically or mentally. Despite his low reputation in some quarters, Kid does have a sense of honor, inasmuch that he decides to leave the loot behind if it has no further purpose other than having challenged his trickster skills, doesn't contain Pandora, or when a more humane background stands behind their existence. These qualities are some of the reasons why he and [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] occasionally end up as allies in a common cause.

For some as yet unexplained reason, Kaito suffers from a severe case of ichthyophobia (fear of fish).

==Appearance==
Kid has dark brown hair with fringe that ends just above his eyes, but the rest of his hair is normally covered by a white top hat with a blue ribbon band. When dressed in his normal outfit, his right eye is covered by a white monocle that has a dangling green charm with a white clover imprinted on it. Kid's outfit consists of a white suit jacket on top of a blue shirt with a red tie and white dress slacks. The white [[Hang Glider Cape]] is attached to the jacket at Kid's shoulders. Kid wears blue socks with white Oxford style shoes with white soles. In his original appearances Kid wore white loafer type shoes.

Kid has been seen wearing black shirts and pants along with a black hat to help cover his face, usually when doing information gathering for heists or when he has his "audience" at his heists looking elsewhere. Apart from these two outfits, Kid is a master of disguise and has been seen disguising as several people throughout the course of Detective Conan and Magic Kaito.

Kaito often teases Aoko by flipping her skirt. However, it has been seen that Kaito is quite protective of Aoko and doesn't appear to want her to go on a date with [[Saguru Hakuba]]. Aoko was somewhat suspicious that Kaito was actually Kaitou Kid, and in order to prove his innocence, she brought him along to a movie when a heist had been scheduled. She handcuffed him to the seat, but Kaito managed to escape and pull off the heist, thus veering Aoko's suspicions away from him. The two appear to have feelings for each other, but neither has admitted it as of yet.

However, if necessary, the two can put their rivalry aside (for a little while) and work together <ref>OVA 10: Kid in Trap Island</ref>. It has been suggested that the organization in question may actually be the Black Organization in Detective Conan, but this theory has yet to be proven. The Detective Boys were informally founded when [[Ayumi Yoshida]] and [[Genta Kojima]] decided to investigate a mansion which was once a murder site and had been abandoned. Conan and his classmate [[Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya]] were drafted into accompanying the two, and the foursome entered the house. In the course of this adventure, Conan found out that the house was still inhabited by the mother and son of the murder victim; the son had killed his father in a fit of rage over his abusive behavior, and his mother had subsequently locked her own son in a dungeon beneath the house to wait until the deed's time-bar had passed. After Conan succeeded in exposing the two, they were arrested and the case was resolved.<ref>Manga Chapters 17-19: Scary Building Case</ref>

In time, the four kept stumbling into more and more criminal cases, which were resolved thanks to Conan's deductive skills and initiative. Particularly after the case involving a sizable cache of stolen Italian gold coins,<ref>Manga Chapters 36-39: Code Sheet Case</ref> Ayumi, Genta and Mitsuhiko developed a taste for detective work and impulsively decided to become investigators themselves, mostly for fame and glory. After advertising their services in school,<ref>Manga Chapter 56: Formation! The Detective Boys</ref> they have become actively involved in many criminal cases provided by their schoolmates, though more often than not they keep accidentally coming upon such during their free-time activities. Some time later, their new classmate (and former [[Black Organization]] member) [[Ai Haibara]] was drafted into the group. Two adults also joined this group informally, namely Professor [[Hiroshi Agasa]], who provides the group with special gadgets to aid them in their adventures, and their classteacher [[Sumiko Kobayashi]], a mystery novel enthusiast who proclaimed herself their manager.

In most cases, the Detective Boys act more like aides to Conan, who is the group's (mostly undisputed) leader due to his intelligence, extensive criminal knowledge and experience. In this role they function mostly as additional pairs of eyes who provide Conan with trivial-seeming but important clues, and display little investigative brilliance or determination of their own. As the series progresses, however, the other members, particularly Ai and Mitsuhiko, have demonstrated in some cases - especially where Conan is not present or out of commission - that the Detective Boys have the potential of becoming skilled investigators in their own right. Genta Kojima was a student in [[Teitan Elementary]] when [[Shinichi Kudo|Shinichi]] was enlisted into his class [[Conan Edogawa|after he had been shrunk]] by the drug [[APTX 4869]]. Shortly afterwards, he and his classmate [[Ayumi Yoshida|Ayumi]] had the idea of investigating an apparently haunted mansion. They persuaded Conan to come along, and Genta also personally drafted [[Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya|Mitsuhiko]] when the latter expressed his criticism about supernatural hauntings.

As it turned out, the haunting served as a cover-up for an old homicide case. == Personality ==
Genta is the overweight, self-proclaimed leader of the Detective Boys. He loves food, especially braised eel on rice, and can eat more than all the other Detective Boys members combined. He also tends to mess up certain Japanese terms with similar-sounding words (especially if the latter are related to food) and is quite inept in reading even the most common Kanji, which on occasion evicts some ridicule from his classmates and friends. His brash personality, ignorance of his surrounding and tendency of not thinking before leaping often lands the Detective Boys (if not himself) in sticky situations.

Even though he is brash, ignorant and outspoken and can be intimidating, Genta is actually very kind and dependable. He is a good friend of [[Ayumi Yoshida|Ayumi]] and [[Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya|Mitsuhiko]], and has been shown to admire his father, who owns a liquor store.

Mitsuhiko enjoys reading science books and takes a scientific approach to problem-solving. He is a smart and well-read first-grader who believes that technology can solve most problems. Due to his strict and formal upbringing, he tends to be very formal towards his elders, addressing them (in Japanese) with the formal suffix "-san" without regard to the intimacy of their relationship.

It has been shown at numerous times that Mitsuhiko really likes to be prepared for any occasion. He enjoys studying scientific, historical and general subjects for his own interest and fun. This eventually allows him to provide useful insights whenever necessary. He's been (or felt) rewarded a few times for his knowledge. Ayumi is a naive and innocent little girl who shows courage from time to time and acts as the team's cheerful spirit.

== Background ==

Some twenty years ago, when Jodie was still just a little girl, [[Vermouth]] killed her parents, who had been working on the [[Black Organization]] for the FBI. Vermouth was surprised to find her in her house, and after Jodie had asked what was going on, Vermouth told her to wait by her father until he woke up, and that "a secret makes a woman woman". She then set the house ablaze, thus destroying any evidence that she had been there, along with the corpses of Jodie's parents and any records about the Black Organization.

Fortunately, Jodie had decided to run down the street to the store to buy her father some orange juice, and had thus survived. She was put under protection by the FBI, although she declined the Witness Protection Program, and eventually became an FBI agent herself under the tutelage and patronage of [[James Black]]. The only remaining memento from her past is the set of glasses she wears, which had originally belonged to her father.

== Personality ==
Jodie usually is a very serious person, but also has demonstrated a very playful and carefree side (as it is seen when she is Ran's English teacher). She seems to like movies (especially mystery and action-oriented films), and enjoys action videogames.

Impressed by his intelligence, deductionary abilities and knowledge, Jodie considers [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] her "favorite detective". She always takes him seriously, and lets him help her in figuring out plans.

== Plot overview ==
===Plot Timeline===
Jodie appears around the same time as Vermouth as Ran's new English teacher at Teitan High under the name of "Jodie Saintemillion". She comes off as somewhat strange, and refers to Conan as "Cool Guy", which caused fans to believe that she knew his secret. (In fact, she now knows he's an incredible detective, but it is unclear if she knows his true identity). She is noted for often using the phrase of her enemy, Vermouth ('A secret makes a woman woman'). In episode 226-227 Jodie, after watching Conan suspiciously, informs someone over the phone that she has found their target, whom she refers to as "Rotten Apple".

First indications of Jodie's FBI training are shown during the confrontation with the bus hijackers. She stealthily turns on the safety to one of the hijacker's guns, while knocking him down thus he cannot shoot it when he attempts to fire at her. She appears later in 271-272 and gives Conan information that allows him to solve the case. In episodes 277-278, she is investigated by Conan and Heiji, both believing her to be Vermouth in disguise, as she pretends to not know japanese despite being perfectly fluent, and even helps them solve a case in the same episode.

It is not until her personal confrontation with Vermouth that Jodie's past and true identity as an FBI agent is revealed, as well as the real reason she's in Japan and the person she's looking for. She is tracking down Vermouth, and after a brief confrontation with her, Jodie is rescued by Conan and her colleague [[Shuichi Akai]]. Following this, she offers Ai a place in the Witness Protection Program, but Ai declines. She does not appear again until when she helps Conan prevent an assassination plot of a politician orchestrated by the Black Organization and the subsequent capture and hospitalization of the BO member Kir.

Jodie has been heavily involved in the BO arc episodes 492-504, which has involved the BO and the FBI. The death of her partner, Akai, takes a very emotional toll on her. As it later turns out, they used to be lovers before Akai infiltrated the Black Organization by dating [[Akemi Miyano]], with whom he eventually became more intensely involved. Still, despite their breakup Jodie does maintain strong feelings for him.<ref name=Akai>Manga Chapter 677: The Fated Individual</ref>. When a man who looks like Shuichi Akai appears, Jodie is convinced that the stranger is her partner who has lost his memory, but he is gone before she can affirm her suspicion.

Due to her undercover status in Japan, Jodie’s personality and style of communication varies from person to person. Outside of a select few who know of her involvement with the FBI, Jodie maintains her cover at all times, first being a high school English teacher at Teitan High, and later an American tourist vacationing with her “boyfriend”.

====Shuichi Akai====
Shuichi and Jodie are co-workers that came to Japan as part of an FBI unit led by James Black in pursuit of Vermouth and the Black Organization. While their relationship is mostly professional in the current-timeline, the two were romantically involved at least five years prior. When Akai was given the mission to earn the trust of and become a mole inside the Organization, he got close to Akemi Miyano for the purpose of using her inside connections. Despite his original intentions, however, Akai genuinely fell in love with Akemi, leading him to break up with a blindsided Jodie. While the feelings were still there, Akai explained himself by saying, “To be able to love two women at the same time…it’s not that handy a personality.” While the two were no longer lovers, Jodie's feelings for Akai never swayed. Despite an end to their relationship, the two continued on as colleagues until the fateful day when Akai was killed. While his death was a tragic loss for all those in the FBI, Jodie took it especially hard. When first hearing the news, she was in complete denial that Akai could die. Despite her frantic attempts at proving Akai was alive, however, Jodie came to the cold hard truth on her own, bringing the agent to tears.

Since the incidents of Clash of Red and Black, Akai has become an understandably sore topic for Jodie. On one occasion when conversation about drinks led Camel to mention Akai's love for Bourbon alcohol, Jodie stormed away from her friends. In addition to an inability to cope with this loss, her thought process has become seemingly more aggressive and risky, something that was unheard of during her long, careful investigation of Vermouth. Jodie's mindset has been especially fixated since her encounter with [[Scar Akai]]. When Camel mentioned that the sudden reappearance of Akai could be a trap set up by the organization, Jodie refused to accept the possibility of such a scenario.

====James Black====
Although James Black is in charge of the FBI agents stationed in Japan, his relationship with Jodie couldn’t be further from the usual boss and subordinate stereotype. In fact, during several occasions, Jodie takes over the role of giving out orders while James serves as her chauffeur. <ref>[[Volume 49#File 502 - A New Objective|Volume 49, File 502: "A New Objective", Page 11]]</ref> While there are many possibilities to explain such an arrangement, such as her strong personality and supposedly bad driving skills, James does not seem to mind in the least. The two have been acquainted long before she joined the FBI, dating back at least twenty years before the series. Following the murder of Jodie’s father, also an FBI agent, James tried convincing the young girl to join the witness protection program. Both out of concern for her safety and respect for his deceased friend, James pushed the offer hard and often, but Jodie refused him time and time again until at some point when she made him a deal; she would join the program if, and only if, she was promised a position in the FBI when she was older. <ref>[[Volume 43#File 437 - Ai Haibara's Resolution|Volume 43, File 437: "Ai Haibara's Resolution ", Pages 15 - 18]]</ref> Whether or not he accepted the deal, Jodie’s current employment with the FBI seems to speak for itself. Bitter hatred for Vermouth is putting Jodie's feelings very lightly. The animosity she holds for the American actress stems back twenty years, during Jodie’s early childhood, when her father was murdered in cold blood and home burned to a crisp by none other than Vermouth. Jodie’s father was an FBI agent working in secret on files pertaining to Vermouth. Thinking that Jodie would die along with her mother and the files when the fire was set ablaze, Vermouth allowed the young girl to wait with her daddy for the bedtime story he promised her before dying. Things did not work out as planned, however, when Jodie left to buy orange juice at the grocery store as the fire began, later returning to find her house in shambles. After hearing that only two bodies were discovered, Vermouth desperately searched for the escapee, but to no avail; Jodie had been placed into the witness protection program by her father’s colleagues.

While Vermouth had since moved on from that incident, Jodie’s whole life was shaped during that fateful night. Albeit hesitant at first to join the program, Jodie made a deal with the persistent FBI agent, James Black: if promised a place in the FBI, she would take up his offer and go into the witness protection program. Ever since then, the burning desire to avenge her father, mother, and lost childhood drove Jodie to seek out the murderess. Vowing to always remember what took place, Jodie even took up the infamous motto that Vermouth spoke on the night of their encounter: “A secret makes a woman, woman.” When, years later, the FBI found a new lead on Vermouth, Jodie was given the opportunity to finally bring the high ranking organization member to justice.

Compared to the girl she made an orphan, Vermouth’s strong dislike for Jodie pales in comparison but exists nonetheless. When the two were finally reunited after a long period of time where both posed as school teachers, Vermouth was just as determined to finish what she started twenty years ago as Jodie was to bringing her nemesis into FBI custody. Although intervention from both sides led to a stalemate during their encounter, their fierce rivalry lives on, each with renewed efforts to put an end to the other.

Although the two first met off screen when Jodie began teaching at Teitan High, Jodie’s stern personality and tough teaching style left a bad, perhaps more uncertain, impression on Ran. After coincidentally running into Jodie after school one day at an arcade, an entirely new impression was left on Ran. The high school girl began to admire and enjoy Jodie’s fun, friendly side. On more than one occasion, Ran even went to Jodie for advice. Unbeknownst to Ran, however, Jodie was putting on a front, at times even using the girl as a means to see Conan in action. As an FBI agent, Jodie closely monitored Ran and Conan after discovering a dartboard with their pictures during her investigation of Vermouth. As a school teacher, Jodie easily managed to keep close tabs on the girl labeled “Angel”.

When Jodie left her teaching position, the class was deeply saddened. Despite Jodie’s protests, Ran and Sonoko attempted to throw their favorite teacher a farewell party, which later turned into a case. To prove her friend’s innocence, Ran attempted to call Shinichi to solve the case for her. Jodie, however, took the phone away, claiming that Ran needed to learn how to become independent. This gesture helps encourage Ran to try and solve the case on her own, further strengthening Ran’s admiration for Jodie. When the time came to say good-bye, however, Ran went to use Jodie’s bathroom only to find photos of her friends and her hidden behind the sink mirror. Concerned by the discovery, Ran couldn’t decide what to make of the photos. When she finally found the courage to bring the topic up to Jodie during the latter’s hospitalization, the quick thinking FBI agent explained that displaying photos of friends was an American tradition. Relieved to hear her teacher's reasoning, Ran's admiration and respect for Jodie quickly returned.

====Ai Haibara====
Jodie takes great interest in Haibara originally due to her investigation of Vermouth; although the reasons at first where unknown to her, Jodie suspected that there was a connection between the woman who Vermouth called “Sherry” and the young girl by the name of Ai Haibara. <ref>[[Volume 42#File 433 - The Truth Behind the Mask|Volume 42, File 433: "The Truth Behind the Mask ", Pages 5 - 6]]</ref> Following the [[Head-to-Head Match with the Black Organization: A Dual Mystery on a Full Moon Night|showdown with Vermouth]], Jodie encourages Haibara to take part in the witness protection program, an offer that she declines after much consideration. As an FBI agent, she had hoped that Haibara would accept the offer, but because of their similar backgrounds, Jodie’s feelings were far closer to acceptance and admiration than they were disappointment. While the two have yet to completely realize just how similar their pasts are, Jodie has admitted to seeing a little bit of herself in the young girl, even going as far as to comment on how Haibara had something that she lacked at that age; friends who she can depend on. <ref>[[Volume 43#File 437 - Ai Haibara's Resolution|Volume 43, File 437: "Ai Haibara's Resolution ", Pages 15 - 18]]</ref> Although the relationship was mostly one-sided in the beginning, Haibara has started to see Jodie as a trustworthy figure of whom she can put her faith in, particularly after the many situations where FBI involvement has saved the day.

When Conan and Jodie succeeded in unmasking Vermouth and subsequently foiling her plans, the Araide family returned home to Japan, much to the dismay of the FBI agents who had gone to such lengths to protect them. It was encouraged that they take part in the [[Witness Protection Program]], but Tomoaki declined on behalf of the family. In order to make the transition back to daily life as smooth as possible, Jodie filled Tomoaki in on what he had missed, omitting certain details while making other things up to protect intelligence, allowing the doctor to return to his regular life again. During their final phone call, Jodie tells him that they will not speak again. == Background ==
Sumiko Kobayashi attended Teitan Elementary and was in the 18th graduating class, two classes above [[Detective Chiba]]. She became the new class teacher of [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] and the [[Detective Boys]] after their previous teacher had married and retired. Her harsh behavior towards her charges had earned her the nickname "oni-baba" (hag) amongst her students.

One night, the Detective Boys came into the school to investigate strange occurrences involving busts from art class and an anatomy model from the sick room, which had been mysteriously moved around, and the mysterious absence of the vice principal. The busts and the model had actually been used by Kobayashi for a rehearsal for the next parent-teacher conference. Kobayashi is in fact very fond of children, but her kindness had caused her to have very little control over her class at her previous school, resulting in a disastrous parent-teacher conference. To fix this, she had forced herself to be strict and harsh when she transferred to Teitan Elementary, but after the Detective Boys discovered her nicer side, she decided to be herself again and has become very popular with her students ever since.<ref>Manga Chapter 155: Is Someone There?</ref>

On one occasion, she accompanied Conan and the Detective Boys to an interview which became a murder investigation as they found the reporter slain. After witnessing Conan in action, she announced her desire to join the Detective Boys and become their manager - a decision which was immediately vetoed<ref>Manga Chapter 517: The Detective Boys</ref> and is commonly neglected in the field.<ref>Manga Chapter 691: Conan vs. The Detective Boys</ref>

As it turned out later, when Kobayashi was still a small child, she had confronted two no-good juveniles attempting to steal mangas from a bookshop. When the culprits contemptuously shoved her aside, a young boy intervened on her behalf, cooly citing a paragraph from Japanese law concerning theft. As a sign of gratitude, Kobayashi bought her rescuer a drink ornamented with a circle of sakura flowers made from the straw wrapper, as a symbol of goodness and justice (referring to the sakura shaped Japanese police badges). It would not be until many years later that she would encounter him again as a member of the police force, under the name of [[Ninzaburo Shiratori]].<ref>Manga Chapters 687-689: Sakura Girl Case</ref>

Because Shiratori first wanted to win Kobayashi's affection and then tell her about what he viewed as the hand of fate, he kept silent about their first encounter - a scheme that backfired when she found out that she had a dead lookalike in the police department whom Shiratori had once pursued romantically. Thinking that he considered her a mere replacement for [[Miwako Sato|Sato]], Kobayashi was understandably hurt and started distancing herself from him, even after Shiratori personally confessed their common past to her - a move which came at a bad time, because she had become an unwitting (and the sole) witness to a murder and the murderer would therefore try everything to silence her.<ref>Manga Chapters 707: The Sakura Girl is...?</ref> When the culprit was apprehended, Kobayashi did indeed remember Shiratori as her childhood savior, and the relationship was reaffirmed.<ref>Manga Chapters 708: The Sakura in Full Bloom</ref>

== Personality ==
Kobayashi is very kind and fond of children, considering them the most wonderful thing in the world. Kobayashi is also quite timid and sensitive, not to mention that she suffers from serious stagefright. Even though she has appointed herself the manager of the Detective Boys, the kids often leave her out of case or ignore her warnings. She was also quite hurt when she believed [[Ninzaburo Shiratori|Inspector Shiratori]] was only interested in her because of her resemblance to [[Miwako Sato]] - a resemblance so striking it even fooled her close associates [[Detective Chiba|Chiba]] and [[Yumi Miyamoto|Yumi]].<ref>Manga Chapter 706: Kobayashi-sensei's Misunderstanding</ref><ref>Manga Chapter 707: The Sakura Girl is...</ref> In contrast of Kobayashi's striking appearance to Sato, however, the two women have almost entirely different personality traits. While Sato is reckless, outspoken, daring, and impulsive, Kobayashi is more gentle, softspoken, cautious, and careful in any given situation.

In her first appearance, Kobayashi was known by the students of Class 1-B, including, Conan and the Detective Boys, as a strict,mean teacher, who was always disciplining her class, never showing any kindness. Her initial personality, led to her students nicknaming her,"Old Demon Hag".Then, one night, the [[Detective Boys]], decided to figure out why many dolls were missing one after another. Conan deduces the one behind the "kidnappings", was Kobayashi herself, which relieved the children. Soon Conan tries to prove the Detective Boy's skills in catching the criminal, however, he also had to conceal his vast intelligence, so his secret wouldn't be questioned by Kobayashi. Conan and his friends manage to drop hints on who the real culprit is and who is promptly arrested.

After the case, Kobayashi dubbed herself the "manager" of the group, wanting to solve and capture "bad guys", along with them, shocking the children to great extent.

Soon, she loses sight of the children, and unknowingly hears a murder being commited, then a few minutes later, sees the culprit's silhouette. She screams very loudly and Conan shows up. The next day, Kobayashi goes to the police station, with the kids, in order to tell her story to the police, and meets [[Yumi Miyamoto]] and [[Detective Chiba]], who confuse her for Sato, until Shiratori clears up the misunderstanding, and escorts Kobayashi to a conference so they can discuss the case in more detail. Then, she learns of Shiratori's former interest with Sato and her striking appearance to her. This leads her to suspect that Shiratori only liked her because of her physical traits to the female officer.

She begins to treat Shiratori harshly and after seeing that the three main suspects weren't the
criminal, she coldly tells Shiratori not to bother her anymore and leaves. At school, he tries the real reason why he liked her, but she dismisses it, as she believes he's only lying. However, while working late at night, she was almost killed by one of the three suspect, the criminal, in order to silenece her, but is saved by Shiratori, the Detective Boys and Sato. Later, she makes a special bento for Shiratori, signifying that the two are now a couple.

On one occasion, she accompanied Conan and the Detective Boys to an interview which became a murder investigation as they found the reporter slain. As it turned out later, when Kobayashi was still a small child, she had confronted two no-good juveniles attempting to steal mangas from a bookshop. When the culprits contemptuously shoved her aside, a young boy intervened on her behalf, cooly citing a paragraph from Japanese law concerning theft. As a sign of gratitude, Kobayashi bought her rescuer a drink ornamented with a circle of sakura flowers made from the straw wrapper, as a symbol of goodness and justice (referring to the sakura shaped Japanese police badges). Because Shiratori first wanted to win Kobayashi's affection and then tell her about what he viewed as the hand of fate, he kept silent about their first encounter - a scheme that backfired when she found out that she had a dead lookalike in the police department whom Shiratori had once pursued romantically. Kobayashi is very kind and fond of children, considering them the most wonderful thing in the world. Kobayashi is also quite timid and sensitive, not to mention that she suffers from serious stagefright. Even though she has appointed herself the manager of the Detective Boys, the kids often leave her out of case or ignore her warnings. She was also quite hurt when she believed [[Ninzaburo Shiratori|Inspector Shiratori]] was only interested in her because of her resemblance to [[Miwako Sato]] - a resemblance so striking it even fooled her close associates [[Detective Chiba|Chiba]] and [[Yumi Miyamoto|Yumi]].<ref>Manga Chapter 706: Kobayashi-sensei's Misunderstanding</ref><ref>Manga Chapter 707: The Sakura Girl is...</ref> In contrast of Kobayashi's striking appearance to Sato, however, the two women have almost entirely different personality traits. In her first appearance, Kobayashi was known by the students of Class 1-B, including, Conan and the Detective Boys, as a strict,mean teacher, who was always disciplining her class, never showing any kindness. Her initial personality, led to her students nicknaming her,"Old Demon Hag".Then, one night, the [[Detective Boys]], decided to figure out why many dolls were missing one after another. Conan deduces the one behind the "kidnappings", was Kobayashi herself, which relieved the children. Kobayashi finally revealed the reason behind her "dictator-like" teaching, was that, in the past, two of her students fought at a parent-teacher conference, because of her lack in disciple.She would come at Teitan Elementary at night to practice for the next parent-teacher conference, so there be no more fights.However, with some suggestions from the Detective Boys, she changed her teaching style, and became more well liked.

Later on, she would introduce Ai Haibara, as the new student of Class1-B, who would also become an official member of the Detective Boys.

=== A Manager is Born ===
Kobayashi agrees to give the Detective Boys a ride to a writer, who wanted to do a report on them, for their actions in complicated cases. However, the gang weren't expecting a dead writer, and quickly inform the police. When [[Inspector Megure]] and [[Wataru Takagi]] arrive at the scene, both believe that Kobayashi is Sato, because without her glasses, she bears a scary resemblance to the officer. Soon Conan tries to prove the Detective Boy's skills in catching the criminal, however, he also had to conceal his vast intelligence, so his secret wouldn't be questioned by Kobayashi. Conan and his friends manage to drop hints on who the real culprit is and who is promptly arrested.

After the case, Kobayashi dubbed herself the "manager" of the group, wanting to solve and capture "bad guys", along with them, shocking the children to great extent.
Kobayashi has been with the group on many cases,despite them constantly ignoring her everytime or has been the Detective Boys' reference to call her, if they're involved in a case. Once, she devised a riddle for the students to deduce, without the aid of Conan, so some new students would feel more welcome. Kobayashi, along with Ayumi, Mitsuhiko, Haibara, and Genta, listen about Conan's story of how Shinichi (himself) and Ran, as children, had their first "coded mystery". Her main reason fro becoming the "manager", seems to stem from her intense interests in mystery novels and her respect for the police.

=== A Lost Love, Finally Rekindled ===
During another one of the kids' cases, Kobayashi is called to pick up the children, by Megure, and saids she'll take them home in a taxi. However, Shiratori offered that she should take them home in his car, while holding her hand, in a romantic style. Over the next few days, he has made constant visits to where she works, warning her of any and all danger in the vicinity, which sparks a crush by Kobayashi to him, unaware of their actual history.

Later, Shiratori again warns Kobayashi of a vicious, serial purse thief, who might be a woman, who's still at large. During the conversation, the latter asks why Shiratori kept calling her, and he simply replied, "Because I worry about you". The Detective Boys soon arrive and asks her if they want to come to a festival with her, and she agrees. Soon, she loses sight of the children, and unknowingly hears a murder being commited, then a few minutes later, sees the culprit's silhouette. She screams very loudly and Conan shows up. The next day, Kobayashi goes to the police station, with the kids, in order to tell her story to the police, and meets [[Yumi Miyamoto]] and [[Detective Chiba]], who confuse her for Sato, until Shiratori clears up the misunderstanding, and escorts Kobayashi to a conference so they can discuss the case in more detail. Then, she learns of Shiratori's former interest with Sato and her striking appearance to her. This leads her to suspect that Shiratori only liked her because of her physical traits to the female officer.

She begins to treat Shiratori harshly and after seeing that the three main suspects weren't the
criminal, she coldly tells Shiratori not to bother her anymore and leaves. At school, he tries the real reason why he liked her, but she dismisses it, as she believes he's only lying. However, while working late at night, she was almost killed by one of the three suspect, the criminal, in order to silenece her, but is saved by Shiratori, the Detective Boys and Sato. Kobayashi then finally remembers him, after he says some familiars words. Shiratori then confesses he was always in love with her, and Kobayashi blushes and replies, "Yes!". Later, she makes a special bento for Shiratori, signifying that the two are now a couple.

As a child, Kobayashi instantly became Shiratori's true love, and was the very reason why he entered police force. At the end of a case, that gave some of Shiratori's past, who realized Sato wasn't his true love, and the suspect whom he also thought was his love, he thought he would never find her. However, Ayumi helped by saying the exact same lines that the girl from his past said and makining the same wristband she gave him. Shiratori desperately asked who taught her that, Ayumi simply replied her school teacher. Then, at that exact moment, Kobayashi came to pick up the Detective Boys who were involved, when Shiratori layed eyes on her, recognizing Kobayshi as his true "woman of destiny", their relationship began to spark. He would always warn her of any dangers nearby where she worked or lived, which caused Kobayashi to form romantic feelings. In fact, his concern over her, constant visits, and kindness towards her, often causes her to blush deeply.

When she became a star witness in a murder investigation, she learned of her resemblance to Detective Sato, and after hearing about his former crush on her from other policemen, she thought that the only reason he was so interested in her was because of her striking resemblance to [[Miwako Sato]], and was not only shocked, but hurt, thinking Shiratori didn't have feelings for her. Not knowing the real reason, Kobayashi began to act coldly and harshly toward him,even when he confessed his true feelings to her, she brushed it off, thinking Shiratori confused her with Detective Sato. However, it was all cleared up by the end of the case, when he not only saved her from the culprit, but also cooly said some of the laws of Tokyo, the same way he did as a child, which finally reminded her of their first meeting, and Shiratori romantically told her she was the woman he loved, shocking her to the extent of blushing, then replied with a fast,"Yes!". Afterwards, the two began dating, becoming an official "boyfriend-girlfriend" couple, and every morning, Kobayashi gives Shiratori bentos for his "energy demanding" work.

Kobayashi would often make bentos for him, after they became an official couple, every morning, when he went work. On White Day, Shiratori was seen with many chocolate, inside his car for her, this is a major hint that earlier, Kobayashi had given him chocolate, to express her feelings, and now his chocolate was to express he reciprocated his love for her. Then, later on, she was shown with all the delicious sweets, from Shiratori's car, at her house or apartment, with an estactic smile, while at the same time blushing, not knowing where to begin. Since, the sweets were seen at her home or apartment, it's very believable that Shiratori knows her address, and possibly, even visits there frequently.

After the death of Toichi, Jii lived by himself. Over the course of eight years, he grew angrier and angrier until he donned the costume of Kaitou Kid in order to lure out the organization that killed Toichi. He was only dressed as Kid twice before Kaito took over.

In both civilian and costumed life, Kaitou Kid is a compulsive trickster who is drawn to any challenge just for the sheer thrill of overcoming all hazards in the end. Kid is infamous for having a rather overconfident (close to the point of arrogance) attitude, always preferring to create as big a bang as possible. He loves nothing more then leading the police in wild goose chases, letting them get within a hair of catching him before exiting one way or another. Seemingly having a soft-spot for his fans, there has been more then one occasion when Kid has refused to show when the police tried to bar the general public from witnessing his act. Generally, when these instances occur, one of Kid's tricks rely, one way or another, on his ability to blend in with a crowd.

Kaitou Kid is also quite a charmer, seeming to always know just what to say to the ladies to leave them speechless. Kid hates to see others get hurt, and he never hesitates in leaping to rescue someone, whether physically or mentally. Despite his low reputation in some quarters, Kid does have a sense of honor, inasmuch that he decides to leave the loot behind if it has no further purpose other than having challenged his trickster skills, doesn't contain Pandora, or when a more humane background stands behind their existence. These qualities are some of the reasons why he and [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] occasionally end up as allies in a common cause.

For some as yet unexplained reason, Kaito suffers from a severe case of ichthyophobia (fear of fish).

[[Conan Edogawa]] and [[Ran Mouri]] were invited to a villa by their high school friend, [[Sonoko Suzuki]]. As they were crossing the bridge towards the villa, they spot a man wrapped in bandages and covered with cloth. On seeing them, the man ran towards the Villa and vanished. Upon arriving, Sonoko brought them in after complaining about Ran being late. She also told her that bringing Conan along would ruin her chance of hooking up with one of the handsome boys her sister invited which are actually her sister's friends.Sonoko then led them to a staircase and told them that their room is located at the second floor. Ran then started to find their room by opening each and every room to see whether anyone is in there or if it is a vacant room for them. Unfortunately, this is not a good plan as for the first three doors she opened, she saw a naked or half naked male inside util she reached the last room at the hallway which is their room.
