The culprit is '''Akiko Yohehara'''. Minako Mochizuki had found out that Sugiyama and another teacher (Shimoda, but she didn't tell his name to Yonehara) were involved in a fraud, and added that she was planning to confront the unnamed teacher. The poor girl was found hanged in the school gym few days later, and while everyone thought Minako had commited suicide under the effect of stress over the upcoming exams, Yonehara deduced that she had been killed by Sugiyama and his accomplice.
Knowing the identity of only one of Minako's two murderers, Yonehara organized the trip to gather the teachers that she knew Minako was a fan of. She first killed Sugiyama and left his body hidden outside the lodge to freeze and trick people in regards to the time of his death. Later, she attacked Sonoko to have an alibi, then immediately afterwards pretended to be a victim as well (using Sugiyama's body to such effects, that's the "Yonehara" Sonoko actually saw before being attacked), and used her lipstick to spell out Minako's name in all of these cases. Shimoda's panicked reaction upon realizing the last detail revealed his involvement to her, so she tricked him into meeting up with her and killed him as well.

The murder weapon was Yonehara's wig: she had cut her hair too short for her liking a while ago and hid it via a very long wig, and then decided to use it to strangle her victims, excluding Sonoko as seen in the picture, without leaving clues. Ran says that there were small bloody scratches on the dead Shimoda's neck, and that there are be some droplets of his blood in the wig.

Once she's uncovered, Yonehara takes off the wig. She admits her responsibility for the crimes and says she couldn't forgive teachers who betray students and injure/kill them, but then she adds she's no one to talk because she harmed Sonoko to make her trick work.

Ran, whose emotional state had slowly taken a nosedive as Conan relayed the deductions to her, gets ready to leave the room, barely reacting to Mouri telling her that he'll write a great article on "her" deductions. She sees Conan standing outside the hall, ready to "tell" her that Shinichi is gone; before he can do so, she falls to her knees and hugs him tearfully. Two hours later the snowstorm stops, and the police arrives.

Conan is assisting Kogoro with a game of Mahjong. When the fourth player leaves, they decide to call Mr. Hida, who works in the building across the street. Hida agrees to join the game but explains that he must first finish some accounting tasks. While waiting, they play a few practice rounds with Ran, who has arrived to pick up Conan.

After some time — with Hida having neither appeared nor responded to calls — they go to check on him. Outside his office door, they encounter an employee named Minamisawa; since he had left his mobile phone inside the office, he unlocks the door for them. When Hida fails to respond to their knocking, they force the locked door open and find him lying dead on the floor.

Inspector Megure, arriving at the scene, determines that Hida was poisoned between 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM. As both the windows and the door were locked from the inside, it appears to be a "locked-room murder." Conan suggests checking the surveillance camera footage; however, it only confirms that the victim was alone the entire time — after his employees had left the office. Shortly thereafter, the employees suddenly reappear at the office. The police discover traces of poison on the victim’s thumb, on several banknotes, and on the door. Conan surmises that Hida left his office while counting money and, in doing so, came into contact with an object outside the room that had been laced with poison.

==== File 148 - She Used Magic!? ====
Inspector Megure instructs the forensics team to search the entire office for traces of poison. He orders Takako Fuji — who is in the middle of preparing tea — and everyone else present to stop touching anything. Furthermore, all the suspects had visited the restroom while Ino was working at his computer. Each of the three suspects has a motive to kill their boss. Since no further traces of poison are found at the crime scene, the suspects' personal belongings are also examined, but nothing is discovered there either.

Conan reviews the case, reflecting on the employees' behavior after their arrival. When the forensics team reports an unusual discovery related to the traces of poison, Conan realizes that the key to solving the case lies in the restroom. In a small cabinet, he finds a bottle of bleach that had been used shortly before.

==== File 149 - A Devil's Calling ====
<spoiler>After uncovering the identity of the murderer, Conan uses his wristwatch to render Kogoro unconscious. He asks Ran to fetch some iodine and then proceeds to reconstruct the sequence of events. The perpetrator had lured Hida out of his office while he was in the middle of counting money — a process during which he touched a specific object. Upon returning to his office, Hida licked his thumb, thereby poisoning himself. Minamisawa’s telephone can be ruled out as the source, as he operated it with his bare hands and also has a habit of biting his fingernails. Ino’s computer can likewise be excluded, as that would have left traces on the keyboard.

Conan concludes that the victim heard a kettle whistling and turned off the stove — the switch for which had been laced with poison. Since '''Takako Fuji''' was alone in the kitchen following the incident, she must be the murderer. Using the iodine provided by Ran, Conan demonstrates that her handkerchief had been treated with bleach to neutralize the poison; the bleach itself is discovered in a bathroom cabinet. Realizing she has been exposed, Ms. Fuji confesses to the murder. She sought revenge for the suicide of her boyfriend, who had fallen into debt; he had borrowed money from the victim and was unable to pay it back. Although she generally believes that individuals are responsible for their own predicaments, she viewed this case differently because the borrowed money had actually benefited her. Having suffered from a weak heart since childhood, Ms. Fuji had spent the majority of her life — up until three years ago — in a hospital. With no family left and a personality that made it difficult for her to form new friendships, this man had been her only companion. When her treatment was finally successful and she was discharged from the hospital, she went to see her lover — only to discover that he had already hanged himself. She then asks the detective how he concluded that she was the murderer. The crucial clue was that she had kept her left hand in her pocket the entire time; fearing that traces of poison might still be on it, she had used only her right hand.</spoiler>
Three days later, Ran visits her father and Conan at a mahjong parlor. It seems that Ran has developed a growing interest in the game, and she joins in for a round. The proprietor asks aloud who could have taught her how to play — a remark that prompts Kogoro and Conan to leave the parlor.

Trapped between two agents in black, [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] appears to have no way out until the door of the hotel room in the hallway opens, blocking the view of the woman in black. A mother leaves her little boy in their room while she goes out, but when the boy closes the door, he finds Conan has ducked into the room to hide. Conan convinces the boy he's not a thief, then borrows the room phone and a package of gum.

Room service arrives at room 301—the woman protests they didn't ask for anything, but the masked man in black orders them to bring it in and then throws the bellhop out. As the man goes to shut the door, he finds gum in the keyhole that prevents it from automatically locking. Amused, he proposes a toast to their extra guest, who is not hiding beneath the cart, but inside the room's closet. Facing down a gun, Conan tries to use his [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch|tranquilizer watch]], only to be informed that the masked man already used the needle on him earlier, and high school detective [[Shinichi Kudo]] will regret underestimating them.

<spoiler>
The masked man fires his gun, but rather than a bullet, a suction dart hits Conan in the forehead. All three adults burst out laughing, and the masked man reveals himself to be Shinichi's father, [[Yusaku Kudo|Yusaku]]. The woman in black and the masked contact turn out to be [[Yukiko Kudo|Yukiko]] and [[Hiroshi Agasa|Agasa]] in sophisticated disguises. Conan is unamused, but Yusaku explains that the plot was meant as a test of Shinichi's detective skills, which Shinichi "passed" according to Yusaku's calculations, even down to getting himself shot in the end. Yusaku is only surprised that Conan didn't recognize that Yusaku was impersonating the [[Night Baron]], a character from his own detective novels, but Conan complains he had other things to worry about, like ''dying''.

Immediately, Yusaku and Yukiko offer Conan the chance to leave the country with them, and not worry about the dangers or risk his life again. Their little show was to drive home how dangerous chasing the men in black will be. Yusaku even offers to use his contacts at Interpol to chase the men and get the drug so Conan can return to being Shinichi. Conan utterly refuses, determined that this is his case to solve, and privately not wanting to leave [[Ran Mouri|Ran]] behind in Japan. Yukiko protests, but Yusaku seems to understand (both the determination and knowing Shinichi's feelings for Ran). In the end, "Fumiyo Edogawa" returns to ask the Mouris to continue taking care of Conan, with a large check for expenses obtaining [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro's]] cooperation, and flattering Ran with how much Conan loves staying with her.

On an airplane out of Narita Airport, Yusaku admits that the visit was worth leaving his editors hanging without a finished manuscript. Yukiko worries about Shinichi, but Yusaku assures her that Conan will come begging for help sooner or later. They plan to do more traveling, but suddenly a horde of editors descend on Yusaku and demand their promised manuscripts, preventing them from going anywhere. Conan alerted the editors as revenge against his parents for their trick.

Maru had hired Kogoro to tail his wife and investigate suspicions of infidelity; Kogoro had succeeded in photographing the woman with her lover and is now showing the pictures to his client. Meanwhile, Conan grows impatient in the garden and notices a visitor entering the house.

When the doorbell rings, Mr. Maru has to answer it himself, as he has given the entire staff the day off and his wife is currently taking a piano lesson. He then escorts the guest to the garden house. Some time passes before the phone next to Kogoro suddenly rings; Mr. Maru has not yet returned. Kogoro, Ran, and Conan look around the hallway but find no one. Suddenly, Conan hears a loud noise coming from the garden house—it sounds like a blow.

More time elapses, and the phone rings again. However, it stops after three rings, only to start ringing again a few seconds later. Finally, Kogoro loses patience and heads to the garden house; there, he encounters the household staff, who know nothing about the visitor. Ineko, Denjiro's wife, also appears; Kogoro's confused remarks reveal to her that he is a detective and is aware of her secret. Mrs. Maru sends the staff to look for her husband while trying to persuade Kogoro to keep quiet about her affair. Suddenly, they hear the housekeeper scream and rush to the garden house, where they discover Mr. Maru's body, pierced by a samurai sword. The police arrive shortly thereafter. Inspector Megure has already determined that Mr. Maru struggled with his killer, which explains the complete disarray in the room. Since the victim practiced kendo in his spare time, the perpetrator must also be a skilled swordsman. Conan is the only one who noticed Mr. Maru entering the neighboring building accompanied by another person. In addition to the meeting with Kogoro, Mr. Maru’s schedule for the day lists three other commitments: appointments with his family doctor Ikuya Hatano, the sculptor Makoto Akutsu, and Yuji Suwa. All three are quickly brought to the crime scene, as they were in the vicinity. Upon observing Mr. Suwa’s hands, Conan immediately realizes that he, too, practices kendo.

Kogoro concludes that Mr. Akutsu must be the culprit, reasoning that he couldn't have brought himself to destroy his own statue. Inspector Megure finds this theory plausible, especially since the message from Mr. Akutsu is not on the answering machine as claimed.

Conan recalls that the phone rang three times while they were waiting. The first ring was long, while the second and third were very short. He points out this detail again, prompting the investigators to listen to the answering machine messages once more — yet they still find no message from Mr. Akutsu. Conan reviews the facts, notices that one of the messages is very strange, and suspects that the caller is the culprit.

Inspector Megure asks Mrs. Maru if her husband had left anything valuable at the scene. She confirms that the safe key is kept in the chest of drawers but notes that it is suddenly in a different drawer. Conan examines the chest of drawers again and sees that the large cut marks end abruptly. Having already been reprimanded by the police, he asks the staff for a Polaroid camera. Conan takes a photo of the chest of drawers and is subsequently sent away from the scene by Kogoro. He then cuts the individual drawers out of the photo and attempts to piece them together correctly.

Conan succeeds in deciphering Mr. Maru's final message and solving the case. He puts Kogoro into a deep sleep using his stun-gun wristwatch and begins explaining the case before the suspects can even leave the crime scene.

Conan begins to solve the case while posing as "Sleeping Kogoro". He announces that '''Yuji Suwa''' is actually the murderer of Denjiro Maru. Although Suwa is a skilled swordsman, he deliberately trashed the room and clumsily placed the sword in the victim's hand to create the impression that the perpetrator was an amateur. He intentionally left Mr. Akutsu's sculpture undamaged to cast suspicion on him. The murderer had learned of the dispute between Mr. Akutsu and the victim through a message on the answering machine — a message recorded while Suwa was already in the midst of his confrontation with Mr. Maru.

Suwa remains unconvinced by Kogoro's conclusion, arguing that Mr. Akutsu could also have had the opportunity to listen to the message and subsequently delete it. Conan counters that Suwa incriminated himself with that very message, in which he announced his early arrival; after all, no one who knew the person they intended to visit was not at home would show up earlier than planned. Thus, Suwa clearly knew that Mr. Maru was actually at home.

Suwa continues to deny the crime and demands proof. Conan provides it by explaining that the murderer deliberately trashed the room to distract from the actual evidence. He points to the chest of drawers and asks Inspector Megure to return the drawers to their original positions. Inspector Megure realizes that the arrangement of the drawers spells out the character for "Suwa". Conan explains that Mr. Maru left this dying message by seizing the moment when Suwa was distracted by the answering machine. Suwa eventually confesses to the crime; he explains that although he had settled his debts with Mr. Maru, the latter had kept a family heirloom — a sword — as collateral and sold it without his consent. During the ensuing confrontation, Suwa lost his temper and attacked the victim; he demonstrates the attack, missing the sleeping Kogoro by mere millimeters. Suwa is subsequently arrested.

During a break at Teitan Elementary School, Conan, Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko form the "Detective Boys". They use the school's public address system to offer their services to their classmates. After school, a boy from another class asks for their help in finding his cat, Akira. Although the children initially intend to decline the case, they eventually agree to take it on after being promised rare "Kamen Yaiba" trading cards as a reward.

After a long search, they hear the cat meowing from a house. Akira is covered in blood but uninjured; Conan deduces that the blood did not come from the cat. The Detective Boys then climb over the property's fence and peer through the window from which Akira had emerged. Inside, they discover the body of a man kneeling head-down in front of a bathtub filled with water.

The children call the police from a phone booth outside the house and keep watch until Inspector Megure and his team arrive. However, when the officers ring the doorbell and search the house together, the body has vanished and the bathroom is clean.

Trapped between two agents in black, [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] appears to have no way out until the door of the hotel room in the hallway opens, blocking the view of the woman in black. A mother leaves her little boy in their room while she goes out, but when the boy closes the door, he finds Conan has ducked into the room to hide. Conan convinces the boy he's not a thief, then borrows the room phone and a package of gum.

Room service arrives at room 301—the woman protests they didn't ask for anything, but the masked man in black orders them to bring it in and then throws the bellhop out. As the man goes to shut the door, he finds gum in the keyhole that prevents it from automatically locking. Amused, he proposes a toast to their extra guest, who is not hiding beneath the cart, but inside the room's closet. Facing down a gun, Conan tries to use his [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch|tranquilizer watch]], only to be informed that the masked man already used the needle on him earlier, and high school detective [[Shinichi Kudo]] will regret underestimating them.

The masked man fires his gun, but rather than a bullet, a suction dart hits Conan in the forehead. All three adults burst out laughing, and the masked man reveals himself to be Shinichi's father, [[Yusaku Kudo|Yusaku]]. The woman in black and the masked contact turn out to be [[Yukiko Kudo|Yukiko]] and [[Hiroshi Agasa|Agasa]] in sophisticated disguises. Conan is unamused, but Yusaku explains that the plot was meant as a test of Shinichi's detective skills, which Shinichi "passed" according to Yusaku's calculations, even down to getting himself shot in the end. Yusaku is only surprised that Conan didn't recognize that Yusaku was impersonating the [[Night Baron]], a character from his own detective novels, but Conan complains he had other things to worry about, like ''dying''.

Immediately, Yusaku and Yukiko offer Conan the chance to leave the country with them, and not worry about the dangers or risk his life again. Their little show was to drive home how dangerous chasing the men in black will be. Yusaku even offers to use his contacts at Interpol to chase the men and get the drug so Conan can return to being Shinichi. Conan utterly refuses, determined that this is his case to solve, and privately not wanting to leave [[Ran Mouri|Ran]] behind in Japan. Yukiko protests, but Yusaku seems to understand (both the determination and knowing Shinichi's feelings for Ran). In the end, "Fumiyo Edogawa" returns to ask the Mouris to continue taking care of Conan, with a large check for expenses obtaining [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro's]] cooperation, and flattering Ran with how much Conan loves staying with her.

On an airplane out of Narita Airport, Yusaku admits that the visit was worth leaving his editors hanging without a finished manuscript. Yukiko worries about Shinichi, but Yusaku assures her that Conan will come begging for help sooner or later. They plan to do more traveling, but suddenly a horde of editors descend on Yusaku and demand their promised manuscripts, preventing them from going anywhere. Conan alerted the editors as revenge against his parents for their trick.

More time elapses, and the phone rings again. However, it stops after three rings, only to start ringing again a few seconds later. Finally, Kogoro loses patience and heads to the garden house; there, he encounters the household staff, who know nothing about the visitor. Ineko, Denjiro's wife, also appears; Kogoro's confused remarks reveal to her that he is a detective and is aware of her secret. Mrs. Maru sends the staff to look for her husband while trying to persuade Kogoro to keep quiet about her affair. Suddenly, they hear the housekeeper scream and rush to the garden house, where they discover Mr. Maru's body, pierced by a samurai sword. The police arrive shortly thereafter. Conan begins to solve the case while posing as "Sleeping Kogoro". He announces that '''Yuji Suwa''' is actually the murderer of Denjiro Maru. Although Suwa is a skilled swordsman, he deliberately trashed the room and clumsily placed the sword in the victim's hand to create the impression that the perpetrator was an amateur. He intentionally left Mr. Akutsu's sculpture undamaged to cast suspicion on him. The murderer had learned of the dispute between Mr. Akutsu and the victim through a message on the answering machine — a message recorded while Suwa was already in the midst of his confrontation with Mr. Maru.

Suwa remains unconvinced by Kogoro's conclusion, arguing that Mr. Akutsu could also have had the opportunity to listen to the message and subsequently delete it. Conan counters that Suwa incriminated himself with that very message, in which he announced his early arrival; after all, no one who knew the person they intended to visit was not at home would show up earlier than planned. Thus, Suwa clearly knew that Mr. Maru was actually at home.

Suwa continues to deny the crime and demands proof. Conan provides it by explaining that the murderer deliberately trashed the room to distract from the actual evidence. He points to the chest of drawers and asks Inspector Megure to return the drawers to their original positions. Inspector Megure realizes that the arrangement of the drawers spells out the character for "Suwa". Conan explains that Mr. Maru left this dying message by seizing the moment when Suwa was distracted by the answering machine. Suwa eventually confesses to the crime; he explains that although he had settled his debts with Mr. Maru, the latter had kept a family heirloom — a sword — as collateral and sold it without his consent. During the ensuing confrontation, Suwa lost his temper and attacked the victim; he demonstrates the attack, missing the sleeping Kogoro by mere millimeters. Suwa is subsequently arrested.

At Azusa's apartment, Commissioner Megure reprimands Inspector Takagi for letting Azusa escape. When Kogoro questions whether Azusa's brother Sugihito is a murderer, the commissioner shows him a photo of Sugihito's shirt splattered with the victim's blood; furthermore, Sugihito's fingerprints were found on the rifle barrel.

Meanwhile, a bottle of cola spills on Conan, staining his clothes. He uses this incident to point out an inconsistency: the underside of the shirt sleeve in the photo is free of blood. This is significant because such a pattern would only occur if the victim had been shot — yet Mr. Torihira was actually bludgeoned to death with the rifle.

Prompted by further clues from Conan, the others realize that Sugihito's colleague, '''Toji Kawase''', must be the real killer. They also grasp that Kawase summoned Azusa because she possesses a photo of her brother — sent to her via MMS the previous evening — that proves his innocence. Although the police manage to locate the place where Azusa was told to meet, they doubt they can arrive in time.

Meanwhile, Azusa reaches an abandoned warehouse in the Okuho district and encounters her brother, who is surprised to see her. Moments later, Mr. Kawase incapacitates her with a stun gun. He confesses the crime to Sugihito and explains why he summoned Azusa. He threatens to stab her unless Sugihito commits suicide and confesses to murdering their boss in a forged suicide note. Suddenly, however, Inspector Sato and her colleagues appear to arrest Mr. Kawase; it turns out that Conan had previously sent her a text message with his deductions.

Later, Kogoro and Conan are back at Café Poirot, where a few police officers are still present because they enjoy the pasta there so much.

He tried to kill Misato Kawauchi in order to silence her about Shinichi, and have the latter accused of it. He is arrested at the end, realising Shinichi was right when he said the Hinoharas had killed themselves : '''Shoko Hinohara was killed by her husband Takinori''' '''because he had found out their son Daiki wasn't Takinori's. Afterwards, Takinori had the murder look like it was a burglary that took nasty, and threw the weapon away in the lake, before killing himself afterwards.''' Makoto had believed Shinichi had lied about his adoptive family's death in order to close the case quicker. But a officer had tried to explain the truth of the motive without being heard. Shinichi and the police had decided to keep the real motive a secret fearing that it would do more harm if it became public. '''Shinichi was actually disguised as Shiragami-sama''', the "spirit of the forest". Later on, Shinichi feels bad and thinks he's reverting to Conan once again, but Ai and Agasa turn up unexpectedly and give Shinichi a second chance. The case won't make public since Makoto is a minor and there no deaths and the reporter likely would forgive Makoto once she learns of the true circumstances.

Agasa and the Detective Boys are on their way to a camping site, but the car runs out of fuel and comes to a stop in a remote mountainous area. Agasa tries to contact Okiya, but finds in dismay that there is no signal. Conan thus proposes three alternative solutions, the first being walking to the gas station that they passed half an hour ago, the second being waiting for someone to rescue them and the third being walking to the luxurious villa on the summit of the hill to ask for help there.

Since the road that they are on has close to zero traffic and the villa is closer than the gas station, a consensus is soon reached that the third solution is the best. However, a car happens to pass through at this moment, and Agasa stops it in order to explain their situation to the driver, a man called Goki Sudo. Sudo initially seems sympathetic towards Agasa’s troubles, but when Agasa finishes explaining he shows his true colors: Sudo insults Agasa, tells him aggressively that he hopes that Agasa is stuck there forever, and drives off while laughing hysterically. Mitsuhiko, Ayumi and Genta are all very indignant at the treatment that Agasa has received, and Conan says drily that they might have to beg Sudo for help again. He explains that Sudo’s old-fashioned car is one that wealthy people fancy a lot (of the brand Rolls-Royce), which suggests that he is very well-off and likely owns the villa on the mountaintop as well. As the rest of the Detective Boys clash over whether the third solution is still preferable over the others, an explosion over their head interrupts them. From the statue of the spirit of ecstasy (i.e. the mascot of Roll-Royce) that flies out of the heavy smoke and happens to drop in front of Conan, he deduces that Sudo might be in deep trouble.

Conan thus runs uphill to figure out what has occurred. When he arrives at the villa, he sees a large group of people gathering around a garage engulfed by flames and smoke, and among them there is a woman (called Ena Ginbayashi) desperately shouting Sudo’s name. Firemen soon arrive to put out the fire, and the police, led by Inspector Yuminaga, confirm that Sudo has succumbed to the wrath of the fire. Yuminaga details that apparently, the petrol barrel suffered an accidental spillage, which filled the entire garage with gasified petrol, which reacted with Sudo’s lighted cigarette when he got out of the car and started the fire. Ginbayashi, who is revealed to be the fiancée of Sudo, refuses to believe Yuminaga’s account, saying that she is certain that Sudo has given up smoking after her repeated demands. Yuminaga replies that her belief is hardly believable at all, as, during the inspection of the car remains, the police have found many cigarette butts in the ashtray, as well as a bag containing a lighter and an unopened cigarette case.
Yuminaga then concludes that Sudo’s death is an unfortunate accident, but Conan disagrees. He contends that if Sudo was smoking while parking the vehicle, then the police should be able to find an opened cigarette case in the remains of the car. But this is not the case, which, according to Conan, means that someone intentionally spilled the petrol and left a cigarette in the garage so that when Sudo entered he (or she) could start a fire (in some way) and murder him.

==== File 636 - Cause of Fire ====

Ginbayashi overhears Conan’s words (directed at the Detective Boys and Yuminaga) and puts forward an alternative explanation for the absence of a cigarette case. She argues that if the cigarette that Sudo was smoking right before his death was the last one in the case, then he would throw the case out of the window right away, leaving none to be found by the police. Following this interchange, Conan becomes almost certain that Ginbayashi murdered Sudo. Haibara asks him why, and he gives the following explanation:

When Yuminaga said that a cigarette caused the fire, Ginbayashi immediately said that it was impossible; this suggests that Ginbayashi believed that Sudo had given up smoking. On the other hand, when Conan said that there was no cigarette case in the car remains, she said that maybe it had been thrown away; this suggests that Ginbayashi thought that Sudo had been smoking on his way home (Conan also notes that if Ginbayashi had truly believed that Sudo had quitted smoking, then her response to his words would have been along the lines of “of course there is no cigarette case! Sudo no longer smokes!”). Therefore, Ginbayashi maintains two contradictory positions simultaneously. This is absurd unless we suppose that Ginbayashi is the murderer. In that case she has motivation to say both (i.e. in that case the contradiction disappears): the pronunciation of her disbelief of Yuminaga’s conclusion was to tell the police that she did not know that Sudo continued smoking and thus could not use that to her advantage; and the proposal of an alternative explanation to the missing cigarette case was an attempt to influence Yuminaga’s deduction process (so that he would forget Conan’s theory about murder and keep thinking about the “accident caused by a cigarette”).

Ayumi, Mitsuhiko and Genta are confused by this explanation (and Haibara’s reaction is not shown), but Conan believes that he is on the right track and vows to find clues that can prove Ginbayashi guilty. Meanwhile, Yuminaga asks Sudo and Ginbayashi’s friends about their activities before Sudo’s death, and learns that all of them were playing a game and that none of them (including Ginbayashi) could go to the garage to do suspicious things (the farthest that any went was to the bathroom) or notice Sudo’s arrival at the villa (they had loud music on). Yuminaga then asks about the spilled petrol barrel, and learns that the spillage also happened the week before and the week before that, both on days when there was a party. Conan believes that this is no coincidence and asks them to provide details. They reveal that on both instances, Sudo was furious when he returned home and noticed the spillage, and subsequently fought with Ginbayashi upon learning that her dog was responsible. They add that neither of the two fights was about the spillage alone: in the first fight, Ginbayashi complained that Sudo was not wearing what she had brought him (a woolen sweater, the one that Sudo was wearing before his death) and was unhappy to see him drive the Porsche (which is of a recent model) instead of the Rolls-Royce. In the second fight, Ginbayashi criticized Sudo for having stopped on his way home to buy water and keeping all their friends waiting (in this fight she did not mention Sudo’s clothing and car because Sudo drove the Rolls-Royce and wore the woolen sweater that she wanted him to wear). They also mention that Sudo did not like woolen sweaters in general, that Ginbayashi accidentally spilled wine on Sudo’s woolen sweater during the second fight and that Ginbayashi once expressed her dislike of old-fashioned cars.

Conan, bombarded by all these pieces of information, tries to connect them so as to get a clearly picture of how the murder took place. He is interrupted by Yuminaga, who removes him from the garage and tells Agasa that they should head to the camping site and enjoy now that his subordinates have refilled his gas tank. Agasa asks Conan whether he has solved the case, and Conan responds that he is almost there, and that he just needs one more breakthrough to fully understand it.

The breakthrough turns out to be right around the corner. Haibara, who wants to get in the car and leave, nicely asks Conan to open the door for her. Conan impatiently tells her to do it herself, but Haibara insists, which makes Conan realize that she is afraid of the shock that static electricity generates while opening the car door. He laughs in disbelief, but as he realizes that static electricity is the key to this case the laughter comes to a stop. After thinking for a while, Conan determines that Ginbayashi is definitely Sudo’s murderer and that she found a way to convert Sudo’s body into a lighter so that he would start the fire that ended up killing him on himself.

==== File 637 - Crackle ====

Conan tells Yuminaga in secret that he has come up with a plan to make Ginbayashi admit guilt, which will work if Yuminaga is willing to work with him on it. Yuminaga agrees to cooperate, and thus tells Ginbayashi that the police would like to talk to her in more depth in the police station. Ginbayashi accepts Yuminaga’s “invitation”, saying that she will strive to prove to the police that there is no murderer among Sudo’s and her friends. At this point Conan suggests that she go in Agasa’s car. Ginbayashi declines respectfully, saying that she can drive her own car, but Conan’s insistence and his promise to show her an item belonging to Sudo (that he has not even shown Yuminaga) make her accept the proposal in the end, albeit in a reluctant manner.

Ginbayashi thus goes on a ride back to the center of Tokyo with Agasa, Haibara and Conan (the other members of the Detective Boys go on a police car as per their wish). During the ride, she is inundated by Conan’s comments and questions, which make her slightly uncomfortable. Among other things (e.g. showing her the statue of the spirit of ecstasy), Conan makes sure that she learns that Haibara is wearing a woolen sweater (just like Sudo did before his death) and that Agasa’s Beetle is an old-fashioned car (just like Sudo’s Rolls-Royce). Agasa also does his part in Conan’s plan: on the way, he fakes that he is low on fuel, and therefore needs to head home and refill the gas tank with the barrels of petrol stored in the garage. Since Ginbayashi says that she is fine with it, the Beetle is soon back to Agasa’s. Agasa parks the car and fetches a petrol barrel, but slips on the way back and spills the petrol all over the garage floor (at this point, Conan reminds Ginbayashi that the scenario before Sudo’s death is unfolding again). Since (according to Agasa) there are towels in the trunk, he asks Haibara to open it with the car key. Haibara obeys, but before she can insert the key into the keyhole she is interrupted by a panicking Ginbayashi, who shouts that doing so will release the static electricity and produce sparks. She immediately realizes that she just made a huge mistake, but it is too late. Yuminaga walks into the garage and, together with Conan, reveals her murder scheme: the overall goal was to make Sudo accumulate as much static electricity on himself as possible so that when he inserted the key into the keyhole to lock the car, the sparks generated could react with petrol and set off a fire immediately. In order to maximize the accumulation of static electricity, she urged Sudo to wear a woolen sweater, dissuaded him from stopping on the way home to buy drinks (as this would result in contact with surfaces that can release static electricity safely) and waited until a time of the year when the air is relatively dry to execute her plan. Furthermore, she insisted that Sudo drive the Rolls-Royce because only old-fashioned cars come with a key, which is made of metal and therefore releases static electricity effectively (in contrast, a remote is used to lock or unlock more modern cars, which avoids the release of static electricity entirely). Finally, she spilled wine on Sudo’s woolen sweater a week ago so that he would not wear it everyday. As Sudo disliked woolen sweaters and likely did not have another one, this move made sure that he would not be constantly bothered by the annoying shock from static electricity. In this way, Sudo would not take measures to address this problem, and her plot could go forward.

After hearing this deduction, Ginbayashi straightforwardly admits that she has always wanted to kill Sudo (and destroy the Rolls-Royce along the way), whom she now refers to as a “cold-blooded devil hiding under a human coat”. She recollects that her father was once on a ride with her mother in remote mountains, and suddenly suffered a heart attack. Sudo happened to pass by, and despite her mother (who did not know how to drive) imploring him for help, he refused, and additionally insulted her and told the couple that they should remain there and await death. Her father died shortly after in the absence of medical intervention, and her mother was mentally crushed and followed her husband to paradise a few months later. Before she died, the mother told the daughter about the silver-colored human figure at the front of Sudo’s car, and she was eventually able to find Sudo based on this clue. Ginbayashi finally comments that if she had not stopped Haibara, then they might all be dead already, but Conan says that there is no reason to worry, as the barrel only contains water (on the way back, Conan sent an email to Okiya asking him to change the content of the barrel) and there is actually no keyhole on the trunk of the Beetle.

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro are discussing the murder of a stock speculator at Café Poirot. Since the murder weapon was a hunting rifle, Ran suspects the culprit might still be nearby. Azusa Enomoto, who has just arrived to visit the Moris, drops a plate in shock. Conan notes that Azusa's brother, Sugihito Enomoto, is also a marksman, though Kogoro considers him an unlikely suspect. Conan counters that there are indeed people who suspect the brother—including Inspector Takagi.

Takagi explains that Azusa is under surveillance in case her brother attempts to contact her. Just as Azusa insists on her brother's innocence, Toji Kawase arrives and corroborates her statement. As a colleague of the suspect, he explains how Sugihito's fingerprints ended up on the murder weapon—which belonged to the victim, Takafumi Torihira: he had examined the gun previously. Torihira was the superior of both Sugihito and Toji; when Takagi mentions that Sugihito was often yelled at by his boss, Azusa and Kawase explain that the two actually got along well despite this.

Takagi adds that Sugihito is also a suspect because a bloodstained shirt—bearing the victim's blood—was found near his apartment. Furthermore, Sugihito had fled his apartment in a hurry, leaving his money behind. Toji Kawase then takes his leave, and Takagi, the Moris, and Kazunobu Chiba—who has since joined them—head to Azusa's apartment. There, they find numerous gifts Sugihito has sent his sister; she explains that he always sends them to her when he is away on business trips. She also mentions receiving a photo of her brother on the night of the murder and tries to convince the inspectors of his innocence. Suddenly, the doorbell rings, and a courier delivers a small package from Azusa's brother. Contrary to all expectations, it contains nothing but cookies. Shortly thereafter, Azusa heads out to go shopping, accompanied by Takagi. Later, he calls his colleague to report that Azusa has run off. Conan discovers that the package did not come from Sugihito but from the actual culprit, and realizes that Azusa is likely in danger.

Yoko Okino invites the Detective Boys to tour the "Kamen-Raider" studio at the Nichiuri TV station. Upon their arrival, the singer informs them that the tour has to be cancelled because the producers are under time pressure. Professor Agasa consoles the Detective Boys and suggests they look at other things instead. Ai asks Conan about the latest developments regarding Rena Mizunashi and Eisuke Hondo. Conan’s investigations reveal that the two cannot be siblings because they have different blood types, making a blood transfusion between them impossible. Shortly thereafter, Genta, Mitsuhiko, and Ayumi encounter Satan Onizuka, the lead singer of the rock band "Three Ferrymen"; startled by his costume and mask, they refer to him as "the Devil." Onizuka reacts with a mix of composure and surprise, then quickly leaves the group without revealing his identity. Yoko explains to the children who he is and mentions that Onizuka is scheduled to appear on a talk show. Mitsuhiko reflects on the singer's name and remembers that his sister is a fan of Onizuka and had asked him to get an autograph from the singer. Since Onizuka has already disappeared and Yoko has an appearance of her own, the Detective Boys decide to search for Satan Onizuka's dressing room together, hoping to get the autograph.

Meanwhile, Onizuka's manager enters his dressing room and is surprised to find the singer there before noon. Onizuka wants to have lunch and orders ramen from "Tenpukutei," fried rice from "Janjanken," and gyoza from "Eirinan" from his manager. The manager then asks why he should order these dishes individually from three different restaurants when all three serve Chinese cuisine. Onizuka explains his preference by citing the varying quality of the food and emphasizes that he is a regular customer at all three establishments. He then asks about a specific mirror he likes to use for his stage makeup; his manager confirms that he can find it at a shop he plans to visit shortly. Before leaving the room, Onizuka tells the manager he wants to sleep after lunch and does not wish to be woken until it is time for his performance. He attributes his fatigue to an argument with his superior the previous evening, prompting him to ask about the man's whereabouts so he can apologize.

Meanwhile, Professor Agasa and the children are searching the hallway for Onizuka’s dressing room. Their spirits are somewhat dampened as they struggle to find their way around. Conan notices a man dressed as a chef hurrying down the corridor while checking his watch. At the same time, Onizuka—now without makeup or costume—pays an unannounced visit to his superior to apologize. In the reception room, the two discuss a new show, Onizuka’s upcoming performance, and an unspecified matter they had previously argued about—a project the superior has since cancelled. Onizuka accepts the decision calmly; he points to the raincoat he is wearing, highlighting its water-repellent properties, light weight, and ability to protect against potential blood splatters. As he does so, he pulls out a knife, shocking his superior.

A short while later, the children and the professor arrive at the singer's dressing room. They are about to knock when the manager informs them that Onizuka is asleep and does not wish to be disturbed. However, Onizuka opens the door himself; he has since reapplied his makeup and put on his stage costume. At Mitsuhiko's request, the singer gives him an autograph for his sister, Asami. Ayumi notices a large number of folded paper cranes in the singer's room. Impressed by the origami figures, the children enter the room. Onizuka explains that he folds these cranes when he is bored, using an unusual ruler to help him. Afterward, the manager hands Onizuka the mirror he had asked for; upon looking into it, Onizuka seems to notice something about his face. Shortly thereafter, the sirens of police cars and an ambulance can be heard. A staff member knocks on the dressing room door and reports that something has happened to the head of the agency. Everyone immediately rushes to the reception area, where they find the agency head lying face down on the floor; he has been stabbed.

==== File 592 - The Devil's Trick ====
Upon arriving at the scene, Inspector Megure and Officer Takagi first question an assistant director who had an appointment with the murder victim, Tenji Urushibara, for around 2:00 PM. He explains that he alerted the police and emergency services before heading to the dressing room of Satan Onizuka—who appears at the scene at that very moment. Satan reveals that Urushibara had many enemies, himself included. Furthermore, he lacks an alibi for the presumed time of the murder — 1:00 PM — as he had been alone in his dressing room. However, Satan argues that committing the crime would have been impossible for him: applying his makeup takes about half an hour, and there is no mirror in his dressing room. Had he gone to the victim's room already wearing the makeup, he would undoubtedly have attracted attention.

A subsequent inspection of Satan's dressing room confirms this statement. Although a hand mirror is found, Satan's manager had only brought it in around 2:00 PM. During a further search of the room, however, Conan notices inconsistencies: traces of Satan's lipstick are found on the autograph card Mitsuhiko had intended for his sister and on the cigarette butts in the ashtray, but not on the cutlery from the meal he had ordered. Satan counters that he had wiped off the lipstick before eating; unlike the rest of his makeup, he does not need a mirror to reapply it.

A short while later, when Satan clutches his squinting eyes in obvious pain, his manager explains that he suffers from dry eyes due to his contact lenses. Nevertheless, Satan refuses the offered eye drops. Ai now suspects one of the deliverymen of being an accomplice, but Inspector Takagi dismisses this theory: since none of the delivery services had collected their dishes, a mirror should have been found at the crime scene. As a hand-off on the way to the victim's room can also be ruled out, Conan — who regards Satan as the culprit — wonders how the perpetrator managed to apply makeup. While pondering the origami and watching the other Detective Boys look at their reflections in the windowpane, Conan sees through Satan's trick.

As evening falls and the police investigation has yet to yield results, Satan demands that Inspectors Megure and Takagi drop the case, arguing there is no evidence against him.

Conan then intervenes in the conversation using Professor Agasa’s voice, proposing the theory that '''Satan Onizuka''' removed his makeup to enter Mr. Urushibara’s room unnoticed. He had disguised himself as a delivery person for this purpose; having already ordered food from three different restaurants, the arrival of a fourth delivery person aroused no suspicion. Furthermore, Conan suspects that Satan improvised the "missing" mirror using materials from his dressing room: a drafting triangle — supposedly used for precise origami folding — could serve as a mirror if a piece of dark paper were held behind it. Although colors could not be distinguished this way, Satan always used the same colors, and the exact shade could be verified using a piece of silver foil.

Convinced by this explanation, Inspector Megure orders a search of the entire building for a blood-stained raincoat; he assumes Satan must have worn one to prevent the victim's blood from getting onto his own clothes. While Satan continues to deny the crime, Conan — still using Professor Agasa’s voice — asks him to fold some origami. When Satan refuses, Conan asks Ayumi to do it instead. After she blows into the paper figure during the final step to shape it better, it becomes clear that Satan could not have folded the origami that day; otherwise, traces of his lipstick would have been found on the paper, just as they were on the cigarette butts.

As Conan lays out his conclusions, he is interrupted by Satan’s manager, who continues to deny his client's guilt. However, when Conan demands that Satan remove his makeup, the latter confesses to the crime, as the victim's blood spatters are revealed beneath the stage makeup. Upon seeing the traces of blood around his eyes in the mirror brought by the manager, Satan refuses the offered eye drops to prevent the water-soluble makeup from running. Having been exposed in this manner, Satan explains his motive before being taken away by the police: when he developed a sore throat and had to be hospitalized during a tour, he regularly received fan letters and origami cranes from a young girl. However, the messages suddenly stopped coming. Unable to explain the sudden silence, Satan fell into a creative slump; because he could not write new lyrics for the band, the group went on hiatus. Satan Onizuka later learned that the girl had committed suicide in order to donate her blood to him. Urushibara, the head of the "Three Ferrymen's" management agency, had posted a call for a blood sacrifice on the band's website in Satan's name, thereby prompting the girl to take her own life. The agency head was indifferent to the girl's fate; instead, he was thrilled by the hardcore fans' reaction to the blood sacrifice at the first concert following the suicide.

Kazuha and Heiji visit the cherry blossom festival together with Kogoro, Ran, and Conan. While Kazuha is delighted by the cherry blossoms, Heiji—at whose initiative they traveled to Tokyo for the festival—seems more interested in the food.

When Heiji asks Conan why he summoned him to Tokyo, Conan tells him about Rena Mizunashi and Eisuke Hondo. He explains that he found a photo of Rena online showing her walking past the Tsūtenkaku Tower in Osaka. Based on this photo, he asks Heiji to investigate whether a woman named Mizunashi or Hondo has ever lived in the city.

Suddenly, the two hear Denkyū, a novice monk, asking Kogoro for help. Heiji and Conan join them, and the monk reports that he found an unconscious woman in his temple's guesthouse the previous morning; she had apparently attempted suicide by stabbing herself in the abdomen with a knife. However, when Denkyū notified the police and returned to the guesthouse with the officers, the woman was gone. Kogoro and the others decide to go to the guesthouse and speak with the head priest. Although the priest believes his pupil merely imagined the incident, he shows them the guesthouse, where no traces of blood can be found.

They are on their way home when the novice monk suddenly appears by their car, claiming that another woman is lying in the guesthouse—and, just like the first one, she has a knife stuck in her abdomen. Kogoro, Conan, and Heiji rush to the guesthouse, but when they open the door, the woman has once again vanished without a trace. When the priest arrives, he explains that his pupil is grieving for his mother, who committed suicide long ago.

The monk reveals that Denkyu's mother took her own life eighteen years ago after leaving him at the temple. He asks Kogoro if the case is now considered solved. Just as Kogoro is about to answer, Heiji interjects, mentioning that he and Conan discovered an earring back wedged between the tatami mats on the guesthouse floor.

When Heiji points out that this confirms the woman had indeed been there three days earlier, the monk speculates that the back likely belongs to his former pupils, Bunkyu and Rinkyu. He explains that the two were troublemakers who would sneak out of the temple in disguise at night, using the guesthouse to change their clothes. Meanwhile, Kazuha and Ran, waiting in the car, grow impatient and consider walking over to the guesthouse; however, a strong gust of wind stops them as they step out, so they decide to stay put.

Conan and Heiji examine the guesthouse again and ask Denkyu to show them where the woman had been lying. When Kogoro notes that there should have been visible traces of blood on the mats, the group decides to head back. On the way to the car with Denkyu, Heiji remarks that Bunkyu and Rinkyu must have smoked and consumed alcohol in the guesthouse. He deduces this from a burn mark on one of the mats, and Kogoro also recalls seeing a beer stain there. Heiji suspects someone might have swapped the mats, but Kogoro disagrees: the blood could not have been hidden anywhere, as each of the guesthouse's four rooms contained only a single small statue in the corner, and the glass floor offered an unobstructed view of the mats beneath—none of which showed traces of blood. Denkyu mentions having had a strange feeling when the body was discovered—as if something wasn't right. Heiji is convinced this was due to the altered arrangement of the floor mats, but Kogoro simply declares that he doesn't want to hear anything more about female corpses.

Back at the car, Heiji and Conan remain skeptical. When Kazuha blows on a pinwheel she bought at the cherry blossom festival—causing a petal to land on one of the lenses of Conan’s glasses—they realize how the victims' blood might have been concealed; Kogoro, too, suddenly hits upon the crucial idea.

==== File 561 - Trick of the Bloodstain ====

Kogoro suggests rotating the guesthouse 180 degrees, but Heiji and Denkyu disagree; suddenly, Conan collapses. He explains to Kazuha and Ran that his glasses fell off while he was searching for his micro-transmitter. When Ran picks them up, a badge is revealed underneath — one that had previously been hidden by a leaf lying on the glass. This gives Ran and Kazuha an idea: someone had placed a piece of floor matting under the statuettes in the guesthouse, creating the illusion that the mat was clean. Heiji adds that Bunkyu and Rinkyu had prepared two of the four statuettes in this way to conceal the burn mark and the beer stain.

With this, Heiji identifies '''Shakuren''' as the person who had swapped the mats. He explains that the monk likely hid the first woman when the police arrived and that the second body was actually the monk in disguise. When Kogoro asks what trick the monk used to place the bloodstains exactly where the statuettes were supposed to stand, Conan draws a pinwheel on the ground to illustrate to the others how the mats must have been arranged. Conan, Heiji, Kogoro, and Denkyu rush to the guesthouse; along the way, Conan and Heiji ponder why the monk had hidden the first woman, until they finally arrive at the solution.

Upon reaching the guesthouse, they encounter the monk. He agrees to tell them everything, provided Denkyu waits outside; however, Heiji and Conan inform him that they have already sent the boy back to the girls. The monk reveals that the woman who had visited three days earlier was Denkyu's mother. She had wanted her son back, but when the monk showed her a photo album and asked which of the three monks was her son, she did not know. The monk allowed her to spend the night in the guesthouse before she left. When Denkyu reported the next morning that the woman had taken her own life—she had actually intended to go to the police—the monk kept this fact to himself, leading Denkyu to believe he was mourning his mother.

Ultimately, the monk realizes that words can kill and must therefore always be chosen carefully. Later, when Ran and Kazuha ask Heiji why the priest had hidden the woman, he snaps at them, and Conan reflects that Heiji has not taken the priest's words to heart.

The next morning, Conan wakes up believing Heiji and Kazuha have already left. However, when he goes to the bathroom, he finds Heiji there. Heiji explains that he couldn't sleep, which is why they'll be leaving later. Instead of returning to Osaka, they travel to an uninhabited island where Nichiuri TV is filming the show "Super Young Detective Competition". At breakfast, Heiji mentions that he's received an invitation to represent Western Japan. He also hopes to meet Shinichi.

At the harbor, they meet the director, Hiro Tsuchio, on the huge steamer. He explains the schedule for the next few days, and Heiji insists that Conan accompany him to the island. Kazuha, Ran, and Kogoro stay on land, and the director informs them that they will be staying in a hotel. As Heiji, the director, and Conan leave, Kazuha calls after Heiji and tries to persuade him to stay.

They travel to the island in a small boat and meet the representatives of southern and northern Japan, Natsuki Koshimizu and Junya Tokitsu, who are terribly bored. When Conan asks Heiji why he's dragging him along to the island, Heiji simply replies that it would be boring without him and that, as Conan, at least he can contribute something. When the director falls ill, Natsuki and Junya inquire about his well-being and learn that he had been drinking the previous day. When they mention this, the director seems puzzled by their facial expressions, which Heiji and Conan find quite clever.

Meanwhile, Kazuha, Ran, and Kogoro arrive at the hotel the director sent them to. However, when they discover there is no reservation, they become suspicious. Meanwhile, the boat carrying the detectives has arrived on the island, and they meet Renzo Koya, who takes care of them. When Heiji adds that Shinichi can't come along, Renzo replies that he's been on the island since morning. Heiji and Conan are confused, and it turns out that this detective is Saguru Hakuba.

Once everyone has arrived at the house on the island, the director asks them to introduce themselves, even though no cameras are present. Natsuki Koshimizu introduces himself first, and Saguru Hakuba last. Heiji learns that Saguru lives in England and that his father is a police commissioner. When Natsuki and Junya remark that they expected Shinichi to represent East Japan, Saguru explains that he's only there as a backup and that Conan can take over the role.

Meanwhile, Kogoro calls Yoko Okino and asks if the show "Super Junior Detective Battle" even exists. Yoko explains that no one knew about the production and that a director named Hiroo Tsuchio doesn't work for her. Kazuha and Ran, meanwhile, fear that Heiji and Conan might have been kidnapped. Heiji and Conan are in their room, and Heiji is changing his clothes. He says that Saguru's know-it-all attitude reminds him of Shinichi. There's a knock at the door, and the others come to get them for dinner. Afterward, they go downstairs to pick up Natsuki, who isn't quite ready. They wonder where the director is, knock on his door, but receive no answer.

Saguru tries to look through the window, but Heiji kicks in the door, and they find the director tied up on the floor. The room was completely locked, and Renzo Koya explains that their first task is to solve this puzzle. Natsuki replies that she thought the first round was about figuring out that Hiroo Tsuchio isn't a director. When he seems surprised, Heiji explains that Natsuki and Junya used television jargon during their conversation on the boat, which Mr. Tsuchio didn't understand, thus giving himself away. Conan also notices that the Nichiuri TV logo on his jacket isn't the original. Suddenly, Junya claims to have solved the first puzzle.

==== File 564 - Demonstration of the Locked Room ====
Junya boasts that he's already solved the riddle, prompting Renzo Koya to demand that he write down the solution and give it to him. He also emphasizes that Junya mustn't reveal the trick. Junya remarks that Heiji isn't particularly clever, and Saguru explains that he simply kicked in the door, destroying all possible evidence in the process, to get to Hiro Tsuchio. Conan agrees, while Natsuki admires Heiji's passion. Afterward, Junya retires to his room, and the rest of the group goes to dinner.

Meanwhile, on the mainland, Kazuha and Ran try to contact Conan and Heiji but have no signal. When Ran calls Shinichi, his cell phone also has no signal, leading Ran to conclude that he, too, is on the island. The detectives are eating there, and Saguru asks the principal why there's lavender everywhere in the house. Mr. Koya says it's a detective's job to find out, and Natsuki says it reminds her of the murder case in the Lavender House. While Heiji and Conan are explaining to Saguru that the homeowner in this case was murdered and the perpetrator killed himself before he could be arrested, Hiroo Tsuchio suddenly gets up and says he needs to get his cigarettes.

When he returns, Junya still hasn't arrived after more than two hours, and they're starting to get worried. Heiji, Conan, and Saguru go to his bedroom window and see him sitting there. Suddenly, they notice he's covered in blood. Saguru is about to kick down the door when Heiji swings onto the windowsill and shatters the glass. He then checks Junya's pulse and confirms that he is indeed dead.

During his cameos he's often depicted as a man with sunglasses and distinct lips, sometimes being drunk. In this function he appears as a dancing drunken man on [[Aoko Nakamori]]'s [[Christmas]] party in "[[Magic Kaito Volume 3#Star War|Star War]]" from [[Magic Kaito Volume 3|Volume 3]] of ''[[Magic Kaito]]'', as well as part of the "film crew" working on the series in the omake of [[Magic Kaito Volume 5|Volume 5]]. He also appears several times in ''[[Yaiba]]'', also being one of the "men of Japan" dressed in drag. Gosho Aoyama has a younger female assistant supporting him since 2011<ref>[[Sherry's soliloquy#2011]] 2011-02-25 768 今週から新しい女の子アシが来るらしいわよ･･･ Apparently, a new female assistant will come this week…</ref>, also drawing several of the background and unnamed side characters appearing in the manga chapters since 2016<ref name="singapore" />. A young woman appears as part of the "film crew" working on ''[[Magic Kaito]]'' in the background of the omake from [[Magic Kaito Volume 5|Volume 5]] with the other assistants who probably is supposed to be her, carrying away a prop tree. While her name is never revealed, two new assistants are revealed in [[Volume 100]] omake (Hotori Kurosato and Ryo Kameshiro), indicating that the mentioned female assistant could be one of them.

After giving Ayumi an anesthetic for her dental removal, Yoko transported the unconscious girl from her waiting room to her apartment room. The designs of both rooms are almost identical, and the differences are unlikely to be noticed by the sleepy witness.

To further keep Ayumi occupied as a witness, she woke her up in time to see Kamen Yaiba live. However, she promptly gave the sleepy child some sleeping pills instead of pain killers. After Ayumi fell asleep again, she picked her up, and drove her back to her office, and laid her down again.

She woke Ayumi up in time to see the preview for next week's episode of Kamen Yaiba. There was no altering of time, since even Ayumi's family can vouch that she was back at 8:05 PM, and they left right after the previews. She let her watch the episode live at her house, but the preview at her office.

The evidence that gave her trick away was the deck of the Kamen Yaiba cards in her apartment room. Before she got her tooth pulled, Ayumi took an Ace of Hearts from the deck for good luck. After her tooth was pulled, she put the card back in the deck. She took the card from the deck at the clinic, and 'returned' it into the deck at Yoko's apartment. There should be an extra Ace of Hearts in that deck with Ayumi's fingerprints, proving that she was there.

When Katsuhiko Nakamoto, a seedy real estate agent, is murdered in his condominium, the police suspect Yoko Sawaki, a well-known dentist in town. They believe that she was getting back at Nakamoto for a crime that he committed twenty-six years ago in a village of East Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture. Will Conan's investigation vindicate the beautiful dentist or debunk her perfect alibi?

After giving Ayumi an anesthetic for her dental removal, Yoko transported the unconscious girl from her waiting room to her apartment room. The designs of both rooms are almost identical, and the differences are unlikely to be noticed by the sleepy witness.

To further keep Ayumi occupied as a witness, she woke her up in time to see Kamen Yaiba live. However, she promptly gave the sleepy child some sleeping pills instead of pain killers. After Ayumi fell asleep again, she picked her up, and drove her back to her office, and laid her down again.

She woke Ayumi up in time to see the preview for next week's episode of Kamen Yaiba. There was no altering of time, since even Ayumi's family can vouch that she was back at 8:05 PM, and they left right after the previews. She let her watch the episode live at her house, but the preview at her office.

The evidence that gave her trick away was the deck of the Kamen Yaiba cards in her apartment room. Before she got her tooth pulled, Ayumi took an Ace of Hearts from the deck for good luck. After her tooth was pulled, she put the card back in the deck. She took the card from the deck at the clinic, and 'returned' it into the deck at Yoko's apartment. There should be an extra Ace of Hearts in that deck with Ayumi's fingerprints, proving that she was there.
