After a successful heist, Kid receives a phone call from a payphone and is told to stop stealing gems. At school, Kaito promises Aoko he will attend her birthday party, which is on the same day as his heist for the gem known as the Blue Birthday.

After seemingly killed, the organization steal the Blue Birthday and departs. Kaito follows them and learns the organization are searching for an immortality granting jewel known as Pandora which resides in a large gemstone and can only be found if shone in the moonlight. After determining the Blue Birthday is not the gem they are looking for, Kaito threatens to find and destroy Pandora before they can find it. Unable to make it to Aoko's birthday in time, Kaito rigs an apartment complex's lights to spell out Happy Birthday Aoko. Elsewhere, the organization contacts their boss who decides to contact another of their organization's member known as Spider to counter Kid.</spoiler>

== Manga to anime changes ==
* In the manga, the string of flags that Kaito pulls out of his shirt pocket are all flags of various countries. To make the animation easier, the special changes this to flags with simple shapes like clovers and diamonds.
* The manga has only one scene that takes place during Aoko's birthday party proper. The special inserts a few more scenes of the party in-between the Blue Birthday heist, where Aoko's friends enjoy party games while Aoko herself wonders where Kaito is.
* In the manga, Kid throws the real Blue Birthday back immediately after dodging the gunfire from Snake and his cronies. In the special, he returns fire with his card-gun and disarms them before throwing the sapphire back.
* In the manga, Inspector Nakamori wonders if it's supposed to be "someone's birthday" when he finds the Blue Birthday. In the special, this line is moved to the Inspector's celebratory party.
* The epilogue featuring the boss of the organization contacting Spider is unique to the special.

=== Situation ===
At the beginning of the movie, Ran dreams about her mother Eri getting shot. After waking up she immediately calls Eri to ask if she is okay and tells her mother abut her dream.

The scene then briefly changes to a scene of a jail, where a man named Jo Murakami holds out a notebook that says, "Beika City, Kogoro Mouri."

The scene transitions again to the Detective Boys waiting for Professor Agasa on a bench . While waiting, Ayumi plays with a love oracle, and the machine tells her her and Conan are a perfect match. She then asks the oracle to tell Conan's romantic fortune, which is "A chance for an A (kiss)". Conan wonders just how old that machine is - "A", "B" and so on were very ancient expressions for romantic events. Agasa finally turns up and takes the Detective Boys to the Tohto<ref name="tohto">[[:File:Spelling of 東都.jpg]]</ref> Aeronautic Memorial Museum.

There are many kinds of helicopters and planes on display at the museum. Agasa wants to ask his traditional riddle to the children, but Mitsuhiko interrupts him and tells everyone he has also got a riddle for them. Mitsuhiko's riddle: Three guys, born on New Year's Day, April Fool's, and Children's Day formed a club. What was their club called? The answer: Tonakai (Reindeer). If you add up their birthdays, they become To-na-kai, a kind of audio-visual pun.
Conan figures out the answer, and they spot the photographer Shishido Eimei taking pictures around the museum.

Back at the Mouri Detective Agency, Jo Murakami is shown knocking on the door. When he gets no answer, he leaves.

Ran and Sonoko attend an autograph session with Minoru Nishina who has written several cookbooks. Ran is a big fan of Nishina's and tells him to keep writing "tasty" books. The girls later go to a café, and Ran tells Sonoko about the fight that caused Kogoro and Eri to separate when she was seven years old. Ran also says they are going to meet up with Eri for dinner at seven o'clock that evening.

Conan comes back home late just as Kogoro is getting ready for their dinner. The TV is on and Katsuyoshi Asashi, the owner of "Aquacrystal", a new entertainment complex, is being interviewed. Ran turns the TV off and tells Conan to hurry up and get changed.

When they meet Eri at the restaurant "La Fleur", she is as sharp as always, correctly guessing that Kogoro would be late because he played mahjong until late the night before. Hiroki Tsuji, a professional golfer and an acquaintance of Kogoro's, also enters the restaurant and Kogoro introduces him to his family. Tsuji explains he is currently training for the US Open.

During dinner, Ran shows a suprising amount of knowledge about wine, explaining to Conan why the sommelier Kohei Sawaki wears a grape badge and what a tastevin is for. Eri and Kogoro realise their daughter has grown up a lot.
Conan enjoys his meal as well. Ran notices he has got some foid in the corner of his mouth, and tries to wipe him off with a napkin. Conan thinks back to the oracle telling him he has "A chance for a kiss" and blushes. Kogoro interrupts them to wipe Conan's mouth off roughly.
Kogoro and Eri get along surprisingly well during dinner. They remember going on a date to the same restaurant ten years earlier and revel in the memory for a bit, when Kogoro suddenly notices Peter Ford, a journalist, near Towako Okano. Kogoro gets jealous, believing Ford is flirting with Okano and Eri angrily gets up and leaves as she has enough of Kogoro's flirting with other women.

A week later, Inspector Megure is shot by an arrow while out for a run with [[Midori Megure|his wife]].

Kogoro, the Detective Boys, and Ranvisit Megure in the hospital. Shiratori tells them that the arrow was shot from a crossbow, and a western sword was found at the scene.

Eri is at work and her assistant brings her a package with Zigoba chocolates. The brand is Eri's favourite and Kogoro used to give it to her as a present. She therefore believes Kogoro has sent the chocolates, trying to make up with her, eats one, and collapses to the floor. There was poison in the chocolate.

Midori Kuriyama calls for an ambulance and gets Eri to the hospital in time so she survives the poisoning. There is a paper flower on the chocolate box that seems familiar to Conan.

Conan visits Professor Agasa to get his skateboard repaired. Suddenly someone throws a rock through Agasa's front door. Agasa goes to look for the culprit and someone drives by on a motorcycle and shoots at him with a crossbow.

Conan chases after the culprit with his skateboard but loses him at a crossoad. He contacts the Detective Boys with their micro remitter and tells them to keep an eye out for a motorcycle. The children spot the culprit racing past them and quickly tell Conan who gives chase. When the attacker sees Conan, he makes a sudden sharp turn and rides up and down a stairway. Conan tries to follow, but is distracted by an old woman who stumbles on the stairs, and loses sight of the attacker. Back at Agasa's house, Conan finds a mysterious object in the grass, and finally realizes the connection between the sword, the flower, and the strange object, as well as the victims.

All objects relate to playing cards, with the sword, flower and the odd object being held by the king, queen and jack respectively. Furthermore, Megure's first name Juzo can be read as 13. Eri's last name Kisaki means queen in English and the last character of Agasa's first name Hiroshi, is a combination of the characters for 10 and 1 or 11 in short.

Megure visits Eri, Ran, Kogoro and Conan in hospital to update them on the state of the investigation. The police believe the serial killer might be Jo Murakami, a former card dealer who was just released from prison. Kogoro says he wouldn't be surprised if Murakami was after him, after all it was Kogoro who arrested him ten years earlier. Shiratori wants to tell Ran and Conan all about the case but Megure stops him, saying they now have to focus on preventing the next murder. They believe that Murakami is now after someone among Kogoro's friends or acquaintances whose name contains the word or character for 10. Kogoro is shocked as he realises that he does indeed know "a ten" - Towako Okano, her name contains the word for ten, "to".

The police quickly dispatch two officers to guard Towako's house.

Shiratori is pressured by Ran and Conan and starts to explain the facts of the Murakami case to them. Murakami had just been interrogated at Kogoro's police precinct when Eri arrived at the station with a young Ran, because they wanted to surprise Kogoro and pick him up from work. Murakami was being led to his cell when he saw Eri and tried to escape, taking her hostage in the process.

As part of his police training, Kogoro had been taught never to shoot in a hostage situation, but on that day he did, injuring Eri and causing Murakami to let go of her, leading to his safe arrest and transfer to prison.
This was the case that led Kogoro to quit the police force.

When Conan calls Ran as Shinichi later, she asks him if he would do the same if Ran was held hostage, even if it meant injuring Ran. Conan says that although Kogoro did shoot Eri, he wonders if that was the whole truth, and hangs up.

At the agency, Conan later remembers another person with "ten" in his name, Hiroki Tsuji. Megure, Kogoro, and Shiratori quickly rush to Tsuji's house along with Ran and Conan. Tsuji was planning to go on a helicopter ride. The police warn him not to leave but he refuses to cancel the trip. He does allow Megure and Kogoro to escort him to Tohto<ref name="tohto"/> Airport. Conan sneaks onto the helicopter as well.
During the flight, Tsuji suddenly can't keep his eyes open any longer and can't tolerate sunlight.

Conan attempts to land the helicopter at Teitan Elementary. While doing so, he contacts the Detective Boys with their badge, asking them to help evacuate the schoolyard. The helicopter is caught by a downdraft and crashes onto the ground. Tsuji, Kogoro, Megure and Conan just about escape before the helicopter explodes due to gas leaking out.

The investigation reveals that someone replaced Tsuji's eyedrops with mydriatic drops, which caused his pupils to dilate and become light-sensitive. Because the effect of this medicine wear off in ten days to two weeks, Tsuji has to withdraw from the US Open.

The search for the next target, a "number nine", continues. Kogoro says he can't think of anyone but he does know someone with an eight, Kohei Sawaki. Therefore, Megure, Shiratori, Ran, Conan and Kogoro visit Sawaki at home to warn him. He shows them around and presents his large wine collection to them. Conan has a look through Sawaki's apartment and notices a dent in the floor. Sawaki explains he dropped a wine bottle. When asked about his plans for the next couple of days, Sawaki explains that he is supposed to meet Kazuyoshi Asahi in his not-yet-opened complex AquaCrystal to discuss the restaurant Asahi plans to open in the building.

Shiratori suddenly notices that Asahi has a nine in his name.

Everyone joins Sawaki for his meeting in the AquaCrystal restaurant. To their alarm, '''Nana''' (seven) Osanai, Minoru '''Ni'''shina (two), Eimei '''Shishi'''do and Peter '''Ford''' (his last name sounds like "four") are also waiting to board the monorail to the main building, all claim they have been summoned by Asahi. On the way to the restaurant, they also notice there is a three in Nin'''zabu'''ro Shiratori's name. Ran is anxious when she realises Shin'''ichi''' could also be a target as "ichi" means "one".

Osanai and Nishina get into an argument. Osanai complains that a restaurant that Nishina recommended in his book was actually terrible and that he has no taste at all.
She wants to challenge the critic once they arrive at the restaurant and gets him to taste a wine without looking, making him guess the type of grape. Nishina says it's a Chambertin but is wrong.
As sommelier, Sawaki takes on the challenge as well and correctly detects a Beaujolais Moulin-a-vent.

Everyone decides to get something to drink while they wait for Asahi to join them. Conan gets a box of juice for Ran and is surprised to see Kogoro help himself to a juice as well.
When Conan goes back to the storeroom, he notices Sawaki with chili powder on his hand, apparently trying to taste it.

The guests decide to explore the spacious wine cellar belonging to the restaurant. While they look for a wine, Sawaki narrowly avoids getting shot by an arrow, a trap apparently set by Jo Murakami.

As the guests go back upstairs to the restaurant and prepare to leave, Asahi's dead body suddenly floats past them in the fish tank. Nana yells out in panic.
Asahi has a Nine of Spades on his chest.

Kogoro decides to tell everyone about the ongoing investigation, saying he fears Jo Murakami, who has recently been released from prison, might target all of them.

Conan notices Nana behaving strangely when Kogoro tells them about Murakami and asks her about it.
Dejected, Nana reveals that she caused a serious accident three months ago. She was driving recklessly, as usual, and hit a motorcycle whose driver suffered serious injuries.
Panicking, she fled the scene before the emergency services and the police arrived.

The group heads for the emergency exit, which, to their dismay, has been blocked with cement. They decide to spread out to look for alternative exits and leave Nana with Ran and Conan in the restaurant. Conan wants to sneak off to help look for the emergency exit but Ran catches him. There is a sudden blackout which makes Nana panic. Conan notices a pink light and realizes her nail polish is actually fluorescent paint.

The power comes back on and Nana lies dead on the ground. She has been stabbed. Conan immediately notices something unusual. On her body there are two playing cards- the seven and the Joker of Spades, the culprit must be right-handed according to the handprint on Nana's back and the wine cork Nana had been playing with is missing.

Conan sees the handprint on Nana's back and realises it has been left by someone who is right-handed.

Conan goes to get everyone something to drink from the storage and hands them glasses with mineral water. While watching them, he realises who actually committed the murders.
Just as he does so, a bomb causes the lights to shut down once again and a second bomb breaks the fish tank, causing the restaurant to flood.

Everyone swims for their lives. Kogoro has to save Nishina who can't swim.

They eventually make it to a helicopter launchpad and Conan, terrified, realises Ran is missing.

He falls unconscious but Ran helps him by giving him oxygen in form of a kiss before she passes out as well. Conan uses his elastic suspenders to move the car and helps Ran back to the surface.

Conan explains that the murderer must be right-handed because of the handprint left on Nana's back. This means Murakami can't be the serial killer, he is left-handed.

The actual serial killer is '''Kohei Sawaki'''.

Sawaki suffers from aguesia, a neurological disorder that takes someone's sense of taste away completely. Conan explains he first became suspicious when he saw Sawaki tasting chili powder, something a sommelier who relies on his good sense of taste would never do. To prove his theory, he slipped salt into Sawaki's glass when he brought everyone glasses of mineral water and knew he was right when Sawaki didn't react after he drank. Nana also managed to slip the cork that she drew on in Sawaki's pocket when he stabbed her, as well as the Ace of Spades that stands for Shinichi.

Sawaki confesses. He explains Nana was responsible for the accident that caused his incurable condition and that he also wanted to take revenge on Tsuji, Asahi and Nishina. Tsuji requested Sawaki's services for a party and proceeded to make fun of him and belittle him in front of his guests, Asahi had priceless wines in his collection and had no idea how to take care of them and Nishina claimed to be an expert in wines but, according to Sawaki, everything he wrote in his books about wines was entirely wrong.

Sawaki says only those four were his actual targets, he attacked everyone else because he wanted to frame Jo Murakami for the murders. He set a trap for himself in the wine cellar to further remove suspicion. The bombs were planted to kill Nishina by drowning as Sawaki knew Nishina couldn't swim and he hoped to kill everyone else in the flooded restaurant should they not make it back to shore as well. He had the idea to frame Murakami when he accidentally ran into the former convict in front of Kogoro's detective agency. Murakami explained he wanted to apologise to Kogoro for his crimes and especially for taking Eri hostage. Sawaki saw a cheap scapegoat, invited Murakami to his home, got him drunk and strangled him.

Shiratori corners Sawaki and points his gun at him. Conan notices his hands are shaking and worries that Shiratori might accidentally hit Ran if he shoots with unsteady hands. Shiratori drops his gun and confers with Megure, preparing to take Sawaki down. Sawaki notices and demands Conan bring the gun to him. As Conan walks up to Sawaki, he finally realises why Kogoro ended up injuring Eri ten years ago. An injured hostage is a burden for the kidnapper and he wanted to make Murakami let go of her. Conan decides to do the same, firing the gun and lightly grazing Ran's shoulder. Sawaki lets go of her and Ran faints from hypothermia and exhaustion. Kogoro takes Sawaki down and helps Conan stop Ran from sliding down the rooftop. Sawaki wants to kill himself but Kogoro stops him, saying he has to face the consequences of his crimes.

A rescue helicopter arrives and takes everyone back to shore. Kogoro suddenly remembers he is scared of heights when they are up in the air.

Ran is sent to hospital to be treated for hypothermia. She keeps holding on to the Ace of Spades, saying "Shinichi protected me".

When she recovers, Conan and Ran go to visit Eri and Ran tells her mother she now knows why she separated from Kogoro.
Eri says that is only half of the story. Kogoro and she went home after her wound was treated and Eri started preparing dinner for her family.
Kogoro, in his "charming" way, wanted to tell her to take it easy and rest, but what he actually said is "I won't be able to eat anything, your cooking is disgusting."
Eri was furious, packed up her things and left her husband that same night.

Ran and Conan share a sheepish grin. They both know Eri is anything but a good cook...

On a starry night of summer, Sonoko, Ran and Conan are stargazing to find the milky way and the north star when, through her binoculars, Sonoko seemingly witnesses a human's corpse's hand which was lying in the flowerbed. Astonished, she tries to find the place where the corpse was to unmask the criminal. Arrived to the place where she thought the body in the flowerbed was, Sonoko quickly points out that the owner of the building, Hiroto Sasaki, is the culprit to which he says he isn't and that he couldn't be the possible murderer since it wouldn't be possible that she saw the house from the top of the slide. He then suggest they take a rest in his house and production studios. They are served fresh coffee by his assistant Rika Minakami. Then, Sasaki shows her a mannequin arm to ask if it was the arm she saw. She replies by the negative and just then, Sasaki remembers that the house behind his has the same flowerbed but this time, on the rooftop where she could easily have seen it. He says that his house had been larger but he conceded part of his land to his friend Yoshimura who built the house. Yoshimura was Sasaki's college friend just like his wife Nanae. He was the one who had done both flowerbeds since he is a home and garden scape artist. Sasaki then calls his friend to ask him if he could go to his house since Yoshimura was out on business and her wife didn't seem to asnwer the doorbell to which Yoshimura accepts. Since Sasaki had a spare key of the Yoshimura building, the entered and call for Nanae but no one answered. They went to the rooftop but Sonoko found out the earth was not deep enough so a body could be buried. She concludes that the body must have been hidden in the house but everyone (including Conan) just finds her really weird. As the search was finished, Sasaki gets angry and ask them to leave his friend's house since they just wasted his time. They excuse themselves and leave to take a snack at a nearby cafe. Sonoko then headed home alone but saw a ring through a jewelry store window. She then remembered seeing a hand taking off a wedding ring from the body's hand and that it was surely a body since mannequins don't wear rings. She then accidentally pushed the jewelry employee that was folding a panel while she was thinking that Sasaki must have been the culprit since he got angry each time they mentionned a body and was wondering where could it have been hidden. She then tries to put the panel back but put it backwards and then corrects her mistake. She then finds out the truth and yells while running on the streets which scares the employee. At the same time, as Conan walks with Ran, Ran ask Conan if he was thinking about Sonoko. She tells that it would've been easier to find the truth if there was a bridge connecting both houses. Right then, Conan remembers that there '''was''' a bridge since when the moon passed upon Sasaki calling his friend, he saw the shadow of a bridge and finds the truth too. He then tells her to run because he found the truth behind the case.

<spoiler>Understanding the real plan and what happened, Conan tells Ran they need to go quickly to the place to confront the culprit. In fact, the culprit was able to dispose of the body and cross to the other side. At the same time, Sonoko meets with Rika Minakami and ask her if she could open her the door to the Yoshimura building so she can find the body. She tells her to be quiet since the director was sleeping and brings her inside. After the culprit killed Nanae, the culprit returned to the building by building a bridge between the two buildings by using the scaffolding for the Yoshimura building repairs. The culprit then returned it to the building when they were finished using a rope system. The culprit was the one who had to return to the Sasaki building for some last minute details, '''Rika Minakami''' since she was able to hide the body before the group went to the Yoshimura building.

At the same time, Sonoko explains her version of the story to Rika without knowing the facts and tells that the culprit must have been really troubled with the undergoing renovations since she couldn't bring the body by car. So, she tells that the culprit went to the Yoshimura flowerbed to bury the corpse but the dirt was too shallow. The culprit removed the ring becuase it looked really expensive and the culprit wanted it so they took it as Sonoko said. If the culprit still had it on them, it would be an important piece of evidence. The body was in fact hidden behind the scaffholding used for the repairs. As Conan and Ran arrive, they see Sonoko and Rika on the scaffolding and Conan wants to stop Sonoko so she won't be attacked. As Sonoko continues her deduction, she says that the culprit could've moved the body by car if the renovations were done at night and they would move it early in the morning. As she prepares to kill Sonoko, Rika reveals that she killed Nanae because she was stupid and didn't know she had stolen her husband from her and she wanted Nanae to go out of the way. Yoshimura was also in the plan since his promises to Nanae were only talk. As she prepares to plant her knife, a drop of blood from the body on top of the scaffolding fall on Sonoko and she stresses and fall but manage to grab a pipe at the last second. Then, Rika moved her head and Conan drove his soccer ball from the street to her which knocked her out. Then, Ran climbs the scaffolding using her karate techniques and save Sonoko.

After Rika is brought to the police, Hiroto brings the girls and Conan to his tudio to apologize and give them refreshments. Sonoko was still shocked and had a pack of tissues near her to swipe her tears. Impressed by her intelligence, Hiroto proposes that he would build a mannequin to celebrate her and Sonoko, relieved, ask him to name it the "Great High School Detective Sonoko Suzuki". Ran and Conan then laugh at how proud she was.</spoiler>

The three Hirotas were the criminals involved in the '''1 Billion Yen Robbery Case'''. The route Kenzou drove at night was the practice route of the getaway. But Kenzou betrayed his partners, running away and taking the money for himself. In order to find him, his partners made '''fake identities''' - Masami and Akira. When found, Akira killed Kenzou and made it look like suicide. He broke his watch while doing so that's why Masami gave him hers. But the real mastermind of the 1 Billion Yen Robbery Case was '''Okita'''. The poison that killed Akira was originally intended for Masami.

Okita planned to kill the three from the very beginning. Kenzou realized this so he ran away with the money.

While investigating near the hotel where Akira was found dead, Conan and the others run into a pretty lady in elegant red clothes who carries several suitcases. They don't pay lots of attention to her at first, but Conan soon realises that she is '''Masami Hirota''', carrying the stolen money in said suitcases and probably about to meet the mastermind.

Masami asks him who he is, and Conan calmly tells her "I'm Conan Edogawa, and I'm a detective!".

In the manga version of the story [[Gin]] and [[Vodka]] are the masterminds of the case (rather than Okita), and they end up killing [[Akemi Miyano|Masami Hirota/Akemi Miyano]] who informs Conan of the organization's existence and that they dress in black. Her death is the motive of [[Shiho Miyano|Shiho Miyano's]] defection which leads to [[Ai Haibara|Ai Haibara's]] appearance later in the series. Furthermore, Shiho makes a silhouetted appearance when Akemi is demanding for herself and her sister to be free of the organization, which is also omitted. To repair the storyline, Episode 128 [[The Black Organization: One Billion Yen Robbery Case]] was written with a similar ending to the manga version.

When found, Akira killed Kenzou and made it look like suicide. He broke his watch while doing so that's why Masami gave him hers. But the real mastermind of the 1 Billion Yen Robbery Case was '''Okita'''. The poison that killed Akira was originally intended for Masami.

Okita planned to kill the three from the very beginning. Kenzou realized this so he ran away with the money.

While investigating near the hotel where Akira was found dead, Conan and the others run into a pretty lady in elegant red clothes who carries several suitcases. They don't pay lots of attention to her at first, but Conan soon realises that she is '''Masami Hirota''', carrying the stolen money in said suitcases and probably about to meet the mastermind.

Masami confronts Okita and angrily asks him why did he kill Akira. Masami asks him who he is, and Conan calmly tells her "I'm Conan Edogawa, and I'm a detective!".

Conan, Ran, and Sonoko are visiting a sick friend in the hospital. There they meet Eisuke who tells them he is searching for his long lost sister who looks identical to [[Rena Mizunashi]]. Eisuke explains that his sister intended to become a nurse so he is searching the local hospitals for her. Conan, however, suspects Eisuke knows Rena has been hospitalized due to her accident. <spoiler>Conan tranquilizes Kogoro and impersonates him with the voice changing bow tie to reveal that '''Kikuyo Tabata''', the maid, is the murderer. He reveals Kikuyo served Kakuzō coffee laced with sleeping pills, thus causing Kakuzō to fall asleep. She then set up the scene by placing Kakuzō on top of a trolley and placing a glued noose around his neck. After setting up a line of books leading from the door to the trolley Kikuyo placed a vase in Kakuzō's hand, warning him that if the vase dropped and broke, it would cause people to investigate the noise. When that happened, they would open the door to Kakuzō's room and subsequently move the line of books which would cause the trolley to roll out from beneath him and result in his death. Conan explains that Tango was murdered in a similar fashion: he was tied up and thrown in a pool and was forced to stand on the tip of his toes to breathe. Eventually Tango's fatigue caused him to drown. By delaying the time of death in both cases, Kikuyo was able to establish an alibi. As for the dying message, Conan reveals that blood covered the kanji for the English word "Hades" which means "Meido" in Japanese and is a reference to the English word maid. As evidence, Conan tells the police Kikuyo should have a handkerchief with coffee stains tainted with sleeping pills. Kikuyo confesses to the murder revealing that Tango, with the help of his father, murdered her husband, the previous butler.</spoiler>

Conan learns from Ran that she had been unable to contact Eisuke since the winter break. Conan contacts Jodie Starling to inform her Eisuke may be searching for Rena and learns from her that Eisuke's father, Ethan Hondou, was a spy for the CIA who were investigating the Black Organization. She reveals that Rena and the Black Organization murdered him four years ago. Conan phones Ran asking her how Eisuke recognized the colleague. She replies that Eisuke recognized the person through the phones keypad tone which played the song "[[Nanatsu no Ko]]", the phone number of the Black Organization's leader. Conan realizes that a Black Organization member is in Haido Central Hospital. Fearing that the criminal syndicate may be close to finding Rena, Conan and the FBI investigate the hospital. After asking a nurse about a suspicious person, the FBI narrows the suspects list to hospitalized patients between December 18 and December 21 and begin their search for the Black Organization member.

Kusudu kills himself with his own gun before being caught. While the FBI attempt to figure out how to keep the Black Organization away from Rena, Akai decides they must keep the hospital employees uninvolved and that he shall think of plan to ambush them. Later that night, Eisuke sneaks into Rena's room and attempts to question her about his sister. Frustrated with her comatose state, he attempts to stab her with scissors but she grabs his hand and stops him.

The FBI plan on transporting Rena to another location in one of three identical vans, making the other two decoys. Later that day, James Black receives a flower from the deceased Kusada. Elsewhere, the Black Organization cause food poisoning throughout restaurants in the city, release poisonous gas in public areas, and start a fire in a local theatre. These incidents cause a large amount of people needing medical attention to flow into the hospital. While Conan and Akai attempt to deduce the Black Organization plans, they notice a ticking sound from Jame's flower pot and realize there is a bomb in it. Agent Andre Camel and Jodie are given the task to detonate the bomb in an isolated location. After doing so, Akai notices there is a rush of deliveries to patients and realize they also contain explosives sent by the Black Organization.

===== Disguise (Manga: 600-604, Anime: 499)=====
Rena appears on television while the FBI agents are gathering the small explosives which causes them to gather to Rena's room to investigate. They realize it was part of the Black Organization's plan as the explosives the agents were collecting contained transmitters; Gin, who watches the transmitters gather in a single location, tells his colleagues of Rena's location in the hospital. The FBI initiate their plan to transport Rena to another location. Camel is given the task of transporting Rena while the other FBI agents become decoys in the other two vans. Jodie suspects Camel is part of the organization and attempts to pursue Camel to give her the task of driving the van with Rena. Camel incapacitates her and hides her body. The three vans drive off with Chianti, Korn, and Vodka stalking them. Using thermal vision devices, they are able to see through the vans and upload the images to Gin who attempts to deduce which truck contains Rena. Vermouth follows Akai who is secretly tailing the second van, causing them to believe the truck Korn is stalking contains Rena. However, Gin stops them and reveals that Rena is in the van Camel is driving, the one being stalked by Vodka.

===== Testament (Manga: 600-604, Anime: 500)=====
Rena wakes up and knocks Camel unconscious, causing the car to crash. Once freed, she reunites with the other members of the Black Organization. Chianti prepares to kill Camel, but the vehicle explodes, attracting the attention of the public and forcing the Black Organization members to flee.

==== Resolution ====
<spoiler>Camel, having survived the blast, reports to Akai and tells him the mission was a success. Akai reveals to the FBI he purposely let the Black Organization capture Rena again so they may use her to gain information from the inside. He then explains the conversation he and Conan had with Rena the night before. After Eisuke is stopped by Rena, Conan, who was hiding behind the curtains, reveals that Rena is indeed Eisuke's sister -- Hidemi Hondou. He explains that due to Eisuke's leukemia and radiation treatment, they transferred Hidemi's bone marrow to Eisuke, essentially changing his blood type to AB. Conan reveals that he knows Hidemi is part of the CIA and was given the task of investigating the Black Organization from the inside. She reveals that on the day she and her father were supposed to reveal the Black Organization's identity to the public, she had a transmitter planted on her which resulted in them being caught. To protect his daughter, Ethan created a scenario in which Hidemi killed him after realizing his identity as a CIA agent. After having Hidemi shoot him, the Black Organization was fooled and Hidemi continued her duty to spy on the Organization. After the conversation, Akai tells Hidemi he plans to return her to the Black Organization.</spoiler>

Takagi tells them that the suspect is an unknown foreigner who had an appointment with the president. Conan tells him that the suspect must be in the hotel still since the president's office is on the top floor and—with so little time—the suspect would not have had enough time to rid himself of the smell of gunpowder and escape the building. The police gather up three foreign suspects, one of which includes FBI Agent Camel. Camel is the prime suspect because of his physical features and refusal to answer the questions relating to his profession since the FBI's investigation in Japan must remain a secret. Conan calls Jodie to come and help prove Camel's innocence.

===== Innocence (Manga: 605-608, Anime: 502) =====
Jodie arrives and tells the police that Camel is an FBI agent and that they are a couple vacationing in Japan. The police continue the investigation and notice that a memo with the words "Bring my Tux" was ripped out by an unknown culprit. Jodie asks Camel why he was in Japan two years ago. He replies that he was on a mission with Akai to investigate the Black Organization. He tells her that in the past, he made a mistake and exposed Akai's identity as an FBI agent to the syndicate and impeded Akai's mission as a spy. This indirectly resulted in the Organization murdering Akai's love, Akemi Miyano. Elsewhere, Gin orders Rena to set up a meeting with Akai or be branded as a traitor and subsequently killed. He tells her that he will plant a bug on her during the meeting and that it is her duty to kill Akai. Akai receives a call from Rena and agrees to meet with her, knowing that it is an ambush set up to take his life.

Jodie reveals that foreigners would recognize "Shiran Puri" as "Sit Down Please" and since Keynes did not sit down, reveals he is actually Japanese. Jodie then explains that after Keynes murdered the president, he noticed the memo and took it believing it was the President's dying message indicating Keynes to be the murderer. As evidence, they find the missing memo inside Keynes' pocket. Keynes confesses to the murder and explains that his American girlfriend was tricked into signing a contract by the president. His girlfriend did not understand the contract since she was not fluent in Japanese; the contract forced his girlfriend to work long hours which in the end resulted in her death. As part of the contract, his girlfriend's younger brother would be held responsible if she is unable to continue working. Keynes wanted to save his girlfriend's brother and thus murdered the president of the company.

She gives them Conan's cellphone which contains Akai's fingerprint so they could compare it to the body. The police confirm that a fingerprint found on the phone matched the body and Conan's cellphone is confiscated as evidence. Jodie gives Conan a phone of the same model as a replacement without informing him. Conan, having realized the change in the serial number, realizes Akai had died.</spoiler>

As a consequence, his blood type changed from O to AB. He is cleared of any residual suspicion of being involved with or followed by the [[Black Organization]].
*Hidemi Hondou admits to being a [[CIA]] agent on a mission to infiltrate the Black Organization. Her "running away from home" and overseas schooling was a cover story for her CIA training.
*Hidemi Hondou reveals her father, [[Ethan Hondou]], was also a CIA agent on the same mission. As it was his mistake that got Akai ousted and led to Akai's girlfriend, Akemi Miyano, being killed later he volunteers for the dangerous role of transporting Kir in order to make amends.

===Important event summaries===
*[[Conan]] and Shuichi Akai confront Black Organization member [[Rikumichi Kusuda]]. Although the FBI fail to apprehend him in the hospital, he commits suicide when he discovers Akai is chasing him.
*Conan and Akai use Eisuke to force Hidemi into revealing she was really conscious and strike a bargain with her to help her return to the Black Organization if she will share intelligence with the FBI as well. At this time, Eisuke learns his sister is a CIA agent on the trail of a large organization, but is not allowed to hear any more information.

==Manga to anime changes==

*In the manga, Kusuda's gun resembles a Glock pistol. However, in episode 497, it resembles more of a M1911 model pistol.
* In the manga, there is a scene in which a Black Organization guard is spying on Kir when she is confronted by Gin. However, in episode 502, this scene is omitted from the [[anime]].

=== Situation ===
The Detective Boys are on their way to a camping trip with Agasa. On the way, they get a view of Mt. Fuji, the biggest mountain in Japan, and the newly constructed Nishitamashi Twin Tower Buildings, which are the tallest buildings in Japan. While looking outside, Mitsuhiko tells Agasa if they may pay a visit, and he agrees. They arrive at Auto Campgrounds where they finish eating rice bowls. Genta punishes Mitsuhiko for not finishing his rice, because the gods will punish him.

Nighttime comes and everyone is sleeping soundly in their tents except Genta and Haibara. Genta goes to the bathroom, and on the way back, he spots Haibara on the phone. Not suspecting anything, he runs back to the tent shivering. She talks to a mysterious person on the phone leaving her next location as the Twin Tower Buildings, and saying "he'll be there". Still nighttime, Gin and Vodka are seen in the Porsche 356A talking presumably to Haibara or perhaps listening in on her calls. They'll also be at the Nishitamashi towers.

On their way, Genta complains on not fitting in the back seat, forgetting he ate five bowls of rice for breakfast. Mitsuhiko decides to try and play the 30 seconds game. You count without looking at the timer, and whoever is closest to the time wins. Haibara and Agasa aren't going to play. Mitsuhiko goes first getting a time of 40 seconds, Conan gets closer with a time of 27 seconds, Genta counts 59 seconds, and Ayumi gets the perfect score of 30 seconds. Genta asks Haibara who she was talking to on the phone, and she replies he was dreaming. They finally come to the Nishitamashi Twin Tower Buildings, and not shortly after, Ran, Kogoro, and Sonoko arrive by taxi. Surprised, they decide to join each other as Kogoro's old friend from college, Mio Tokiwa, who owns the building. He was invited a week before the opening. Mio Tokiwa's secretary named Chinami Sawaguchi comes outside and greets them to take a quick tour of the building. She explains that all floors above 31st belong to the Tokiwa Corporation, and the showroom spans from the 2nd to the 3rd floor. Mitsuhiko explains to Ayumi that the Tokiwa Company deals with computer software, but are involved with everything concerning computers. At the game room, they meet the Tokiwa executive named Yoshiaki Hara, also a lead programmer who created a particular machine that can show the face of a person in ten years. Ayumi and Agasa take the first try. Agasa didn't change one bit, while Ayumi's photo looks beautiful. Genta and Mitsuhiko take the next seat as they turn into high-schoolers. Sonoko and Ran are next. Sonoko looks old, while Ran looks a bit like her mother Eri. Mitsuhiko and Ayumi look curious to Ran and Conan's reaction.

Conan and Haibara refuse to participate but Kogoro forces Conan inside, and Genta and Mistuhiko force Haibara into the seat. After the flash happens, the machines receives an error which save those two from being discovered of their true identities. Sawaguchi received a call to inform them that the party rooms open on the 75th floor. Sawaguchi accidentally steps on Kogoro's shoes, and Hara comments on her clumsiness due to her birth on the year of the boar. They take the VIP elevator which goes to any floor of the building. Sawaguchi points out that the only other way to access the VIP elevator is by the Concert Hall on the 66th floor. Ayumi and Mitsuhiko are amazed and describe the feeling as rising to heaven. They finally reach the 75th floor and find the room a mess in order to prepare for the Opening Party. They meet Tokiwa near the stage and introduce themselves. Tokiwa presents the Japanese artist named Hosui Kisaragi, Nishitamashi councilman named Iwamatsu Oki, and the architect of the building named Hidehiko Kazama who introduced himself as a former student of Teiji Moriya. This instantly brings anxiety to Kogoro and Conan but he reassures them that he has no intention to destroy the buildings like him. Conan points out that the building are asymmetrical. From the window they get a perfect view of Mt. Fuji. On the other side of that window is the B tower which is a commercial building on the bottom while the top is a hotel. The top floor also has an indoor pool, with a retractable roof. With Oki being drunk at the time he speaks with Tokiwa about staying at the hotel for weekend. And although it isn't open, she prepares a suite on the 67th floor for him. Oki then proceeds to ask her to dinner before commenting on her brooch, which she got herself as a gift. Hosui abruptly ends the conversation and leaves without escort. Hidehiko tells Kogoro that Hosui's behavior is due to Mio's treatment of his art. She buys them and sells them for a higher profit. Hara takes out chocolates and give some to Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko. He invites them to his house to test out a new game he's created next Sunday. Haibara walks off, and Mitsuhiko tells Ran that he wishes to speak with her. Ayumi close behind tells Ran the same thing. Sonoko is seen staring at her picture while Haibara walks by, Sonoko decides whether to get a perm or not. Two employees come up to the VIP elevator and talk about how a nice car pulled up. The other employee says it's Porsche 356A which catches Conan's attention. Conan asks for the cars detail which matches that of Gin's car. He quickly runs into the elevator looking down briefly, and sees the Porsche drive off as he approaches the entrance. The next day at a fast food restaurant Mitsuhiko talks to Ran in private about his crush on Ayumi. He likes her but she likes Conan. Mitsuhiko also has started to like Haibara. Although confused if he's a bad person for liking two people Ran tells him he shouldn't be ashamed of it. She says to value and treasure those feelings and to stay friends with them, whether it be Haibara or Ayumi. At a donut shop Ayumi talks to Ran about her crush on Conan. She also mentions his crush on Ran. She doesn't believe that, but Ayumi tells her it's "women's intuition". Ran talks with Conan using his bow tie to disguise himself as Shinichi. Ran tells him that Conan has a crush on her. Shinichi tells her it's nothing to worry about.

At the Nishitamashi Buildings, B tower 67th floor, an unknown killer prepares to attack Oki. The killer charges and stabs him to death backing him to a closet.

Next day at police headquarters, Inspector Megure gathers all the visitors to talk about Oki's death. Chiba reports the time of death was around 10 to midnight, and that a sake cup broken in two pieces were found at the scene. Megure has two possibilities for the sake cup. Either Oki carried it with him and and it fell, or it had a symbolic message to it. On the police board list of suspects, five suspects are put together. Shiratori says that the building isn't open to the public yet making entry impossible, leaving only Tokiwa, Hara, Kisaragi, Sawaguchi, and Kazama as the only people left. Kogoro comes up with a possible meaning of the broken sake cup. Choko (sake cup) refers to chocolate, and the one who likes chocolate is Hara. Megure points out that Hara is the only person to have an alibi. Although they're still investigating the motive, Oki was a councilman with as much power as the mayor. The city initially wouldn't allow the Twin Buildings to be built but Oki overturned the decision. Conan figures it might be Tokiwa, as her brooch looks like the broken sake cup. Although Kogoro denies the possibility, Megure objects and suggests she is the primary suspect. She was staying at B Towers 68th floor, making her closest to the victim. Sonoko said the sake cup resembles the bowl used in Japanese painting, which was used for mixing powder. Taking in those factors puts everyone except Kazama, and Sawaguchi as suspects. Conan points out his past worry that Kazama was a former student of Teiji Moriya. Although Shiratori convinces him that he's more of a technical architect and didn't have a need for perfection like Moriya. Megure brings up evidence against Sawaguchi. Her father was an investigative journalist who passed away due to exhaustion before she graduated from college. Although there is no evidence against her father and Oki. While Megure is talking Conan takes Iwamatsu's picture from a book. He notices that blood is missing in a place where there should be. He associates the sake cup with alcohol which points to the organization, but Ai says that the message is too obvious to be them. Across the table he sees Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko agreeing on something suspiciously. At Beika Station they meet up hoping to get ahead of Conan on the case, but Conan comes from behind and surprises them, making them promise never to do it again. They take the train to see Kazama, and tomorrow Hara. They've also found out that Hosui lives alone in a house he built in Asahino three years ago. They've invited Ai, but she decided not to join as she is doing some cleaning. (At the next scene Ai is watching an old gang movie which mirrors the life she lives today.) The Detective Boys finally arrive at Asahino station, and meet up with Kazama. On entering his home Conan compliments him on his CAD system completely designed for designing buildings and models. Mitsuhiko starts asking a series of questions on Oki's death. Kazama says he had no disputes nor any disagreements with Oki, and even thanked him for his job. Kazama then proceeds to talk about his son whom he calls even knowing he's sleeping. His calm attitude, and presence tells Conan he's not the killer. Next they visit the Kisaragi Residence. Kisaragi is seen kneeling and painting Mt. Fuji, but oddly enough his shades are down not allowing him a view of the mountain. Kisaragi yells at them, but quickly subsides, and as they leave he leaves them a crude outline portrait of themselves. At Agasa's house, Professor Agasa is awoken the the sound of his snoring. He gets up and realizes that Haibara is talking to someone. He calls Conan and mentions that Genta also saw the same thing during the camping trip. Although Agasa fears the Black Organization might be on to her, Conan puts his belief in her. He meets up with the Detective Boys to go and visit Hara. As they arrive Conan notices his doors are partially open. On entry, they see his dead body laying on the floor.

Conan spots a single shot wound to the chest, a knife with chocolate cake on it, and a broken sake cup. The police arrive and Takagi questions the meaning of the sake cup. Shiratori explains that because of the cup, they know it's the same criminal, which means he's now turned into a serial killer. Conan speaks with Crime Scene Investigator Tome who on inspection of the cup notices that the broken fragments have no blood stains on it.

At the Mouri Detective Agency, Shiratori and Megure, speculate the time of death between 5 and 6 at night. Hara's computer data was also completely erased. Now the prime suspects are Tokiwa, Kazama, Sawaguchi, and Kisaragi. Megure also tried to postpone the opening party, but Tokiwa refused leaving two tickets with invitations on it for them. A Porsche arrives at a building and Gin steps out, enters the building, and we find Vodka ruffling through Akemi's apartment which she leased in secret for one year. Vodka brings up a computer which Gin will use to run a tracing program, to track down Haibara's location. Haibara gets out of her bed and calls the room to leave a message, doing so she leaves her next location. Just three seconds before the trace is completed Conan cuts the line, explaining the danger of her actions. She runs upstairs in tears. The call comes again but it was only to remotely delete the message so no one would hear it. At Teitan Elementary School, Haibara apologizes for herself. She agrees it's a dangerous thing to do, but it calms her down to hear her sister's voice even if it's for ten seconds. The Detective Boys reassure her she's not alone anymore. Nighttime at the Twin Tower Buildings come. At the Central surveillance Room - Basement Level 1 a metallic ball is seen rolled into the room which immediately knocks out the guards monitoring the screens. The culprits are seen planting a bomb in the Main Computer Room, the entrance, and the rooftop of the building. At the Mouri Detective Agency, they're preparing to leave, but are waiting for Sonoko to arrive. Conan asks if Hara might be connected to the Black Organization somehow, Haibara responds that it certainly possible as they're always recruiting people from different fields to meet the demands in research and operations.

Sonoko finally arrives, and with a perm like Haibara. Takagi, Chibi, Megure, and Shiratori are seen stationed outside of the buildings because Tokiwa refused their presence, and are left to observe. At the party, the kids see the red Mustang which they believe was disassembled, but as Ayumi pointed out it was loaded onto the cargo elevator. As they enjoy the sunset, Sonoko makes fun of Ran for being in love with Shinichi. Mio walks up on stage, and presents a game she learned from her father Kaneari Tokiwa called the 30-seconds game. Whoever comes the closest or exactly leaves with the mustang convertible as a present. If there is a tie, then it will be settled with janken (rock, paper, scissors). The loser receives a mountain bike and helmet. Everyone but Conan an Haibara give up their watches and start the game. Kisaragi didn't participate either. The game begins and the winner quickly becomes Kogoro by pure luck.

Sawaguchi starts to gather up people who helped build the Twins. The lights turn off and the exhibit begins. The announcer presents the many works of Kisaragi throughout his career as an artist. But when the show is over Kisaragi's greatest painting is yet to be revealed. When the lights turn off and it is shown, Mio Tokiwa's corpse hangs on a wire dangling in front of the painting.

As Kogoro brings down the body to inspect the damage, a sake cup shows on the floor, this time however, unbroken. Curtains are hung over and Megures team goes up to check the crime scene. Tokiwa's body was attached to a piano wire hook, so as the painting lowered the body rose asphyxiating her. They recreate the crime scene with the lights on the floors as marks for their position. Kogoro accuses Kisaragi for the murder, as his works were being sold at high prices and she was making the profits. Takagi however, believes it is unlikely since he didn't know anything about the other sake cups. Kogoro again makes an unreasonable deduction. This time Sawaguchi is accused, only for her father's ambitions, and protest against politicians. He believed Oki was taking bribes to persuade the council to allow the project. The only proof he presents is that the kanji for choko is boar and kuchi, since she was born on the year of the boar once you rearrange the kanji you get choko. Conan interrupts, but is quickly thrown off backstage where Haibara is waiting patiently. She gives Conan a clue as to how the killer pulled off the trick. If Tokiwa hadn't been drinking, she would've realized someone had attached a wire to her necklace. He finds a pearl where Kisaragi was. He quickly runs downstairs to confirm his suspicion for the motive.

At Basement Level 4 - Power Generator Room one of the bombs the killers used has shut down all the lights in A tower. The second bomb quickly goes off in the Computer Room and eradicated all of Tokiwa Corporations Data.

Through quick thinking they figure out that the VIP elevators run on an independent power source, and all women and children are to take the elevators directly to the outside, while the men take the emergency stairs, go across the Sky Bridge and descend down B tower. The firefighters come and formulate a plan to put out the fires. The evacuation plan starts and Conan almost fits in the elevator but the weight restrictions limit him. The Detective Boys decide to get off on the 66th floor because of a women and her baby, and get stuck in the process. Conan figures that the planning and destruction of the building was too precise to be anyone else but the Organization, including the destruction of the computer room. Finally Conan, Ran, and Sonoko's opportunity arrive and they take the elevator. While descending he figures out that because of the messages left by Miyano, they believe she's in the elevator, and Sonoko is the target thanks to her new hairdo. He uses his glasses to zoom in across B-Tower's roof and sees Gin with a sniper pointing directly at her.

Conan tricks Sonoko into moving out the way. Thanks to her unusual behavior at the sight of danger, Gin realizes that Sonoko isn't Haibara.

Conan uses the hatch to escape, and Ran opens the door to the 45th floor. As a fire approaches he quickly leads them to the sky bridge. Gin and Vodka trap Haibara believing she is with one of the men. When she doesn't show they decide to blow the sky bridges so she has no way of escaping. As The Detective Boys head out to the Sky Bridge on the 60th floor Vodka blows it off and it collides with the Sky Bridge on the 45th floor, trapping Conan and Ran as well. Smoke penetrates the door nearby and they start to feel it's effects. Ran opens up a hatch where a fire hose is kept, ties it around Conan and herself, jumps down and uses the force to break the glass just as the hose burned from the consuming fire. As they reach the police on the parking lot it is just then that Conan realizes that the Detective Boys are stuck on the 60th floor. Megure immediately calls for a helicopter. Conan takes the skateboard from the car and takes the B-tower elevator to the 60th floor, and uses it to jump across the sky bridge to lead the Detective Boys to the roof. On the 75 floor he splits up with the group and decides to head for the killer's location.

In order to murder Tokiwa, the killer gave a pearl necklace as present to her. He requested she wear the necklace to compliment the painting he donated. The killer is revealed to be '''Hosui Kisaragi'''. He gave Tokiwa a necklace that was easily removable. While backstage he hooked a wire from the top of his painting of Mt. Fuji along the top of the curtain to his identical necklace. While waiting to be presented he undid her necklace and pretended to pick it up. He put his identical one around her neck and all he had to do was wait. He placed the sake cup on the stage to make sure it was seen as the serial killer's doing. His only alibi was that Hara was already dead when Kisaragi got there which explains the fragments of the sake cup which had no blood on it. Oki's murder was also strange. Kisaragi gave him a painting to hang on his closet, unaware of his true intention, which explains the unusual blood stains on the closet's door. Kisaragi of course denies the possibility and demands for proof. Conan told him of his canes sound before and after the show. That explains where he put the original necklace. The motive he explains is the towers presence. For the past 10 years, he climbed a small hill just outside of Nishitamashi for his paintings. When his age started catching up, he built a house on the hill and decided to devote his remaining years painting Mt. Fuji. From that place he had the best view point, but the tower split Fuji in twain. This is the broken sake cups meaning. Although Tokiwa's case had a cup it wasn't broken. This was due to the cup already establishing that a serial killer is responsible. As Kisaragi agreed to his fate he took a bottle of poison from his pocket and as he was about to drink it, Conan used his watch to tranquilize him. Conan explained to Haibara that when he arrived in Asahino Station, he noticed the towers splitting Fuji in two, along with Kisaragi's unusual curtains. He also explains Hara's killer. He was holding a silver knife in his hand not to protect himself but to leave a message. Silver meaning '''GIN''' in Japanese. Gin likely believed the knife was picked up for self-defense. He deduced that Hara accessed secret data from the Black Organizations computers, which explains his computers erased data. As Conan heads upstairs Haibara sits down and at the counter sees a glowing red light behind the alcohol reasoning it's a bomb. When Conan heads to the roof Vodka activates a bomb there to ensure everyones death. When they arrive downstairs, Haibara shows Conan that there's a bomb under every table. As they look outside the window Conan sees the closed dome on B-Tower and believes the car can go across the building. Haibara denies that as the distance between the building is 50 meters, and would require at least 60 meters to go over. With the height calculated it will take 2 seconds to make impact, and 108 km/h. Although Conan agrees he wants to use the explosion as an accelerator. Conan realizes that this plan requires precise timing, but his watch died, so they prepare Ayumi to count 30 seconds, as they go. Haibara decides to count to 30 to remain precise. He call Megure and request the roof be opened. They load Kisaragi who's still unconconscious into the car (a Ford Mustang convertible) and start the countdown from one minute. But as the 30 second time approaches Haibara remains in the chair, so Genta takes her with 5 seconds left and goes into the Ford Mustang convertible. The bomb goes off and as they fly through the air Haibara almost drops from the car, but Mitsuhiko saves her. Adding that to the calculation he realizes that the glass formation inside the dome will kill Haibara, so he takes the biker helmet from Ayumi and uses the power shoes to break them just enough so that she'll get by. When they land, Vodka gets the news that five kids and an old man escape with the car, and finally think that Haibara isn't there. Gin said it's okay as their objective is complete. Destroying the main computer room in the towers was their intention. Back in the dome, Ayumi explains that when she's close to Conan she counted her heartbeat as a second. After they arrest Kisaragi, Kogoro realizes his prize car is destroyed.

At the beginning of the movie, [[Ran]] has a flashback of [[Shinichi]] taking Ran to the fountain at [[Tropical Land]].

The movie quickly transitions to [[Conan]] calling Ran in a phone booth. After Ran asks Conan if he could come back to Tropical Land (thinking he is Shinichi), the [[Detective Boys]] cross his path, making a remark like, "It's not fun if he (Conan) isn't there", Conan quickly hangs up.

It is shown that the Detective Boys came up with a new riddle that they are confident that Conan cannot solve. However, Conan quickly solves the riddle. When [[Genta]] tries to cross the light, a policeman stops him, saying blinking green is the same as a red light. Conan and the rest wait for the next green light, but right when they are about to finish crossing, a mysterious man with an umbrella shoots the policeman in the booth. The man runs, and Conan gives chase, but loses him. When Conan asks the victim if he knew who shot him, the man grabs for his notebook, and fades away.

The Detective Boys are taken to a police conference because they were witnesses to tell them the details of the man. However, the conference goes nowhere as [[Ayumi Yoshida|Ayumi]], [[Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya|Mitsuhiko]], and Genta disagree on how the culprit looked. Ayumi claims the culprit was a middle aged man, Mitsuhiko claims the culprit was a young man with a black umbrella, and Genta says the culprit was a beautiful woman with a green umbrella. Conan later says that the culprit's raincoat and umbrella were both a shade of gray, and remembers the umbrella was in his/her right hand, showing that the culprit was left-handed.

Later, a woman finds a police officer, Youichiro Shiba murdered in a parking lot, who was holding his police notebook in his right hand.

The police, because of the similar conditions, are treating this as a serial killing. When the following morning [[Kogoro Mouri]] tries to ask [[Megure]] for more details, Megure hangs up, saying that he is busy. Kogoro notes that Inspector Megure is acting strange.

Megure is later shown talking to [[Shiratori]], saying that the information between the two cases must remain between them.

Shiratori's sister later has a party to bless her marriage. When Kogoro sees Megure again, he tries to get info, but the latter remains shut up. Conan realizes that Megure may know something that is kept confidential. Kogoro and Conan later try to blackmail [[Takagi]] using the info that Takagi likes [[Miwako Sato|Sato]]. Takagi tells Kogoro and Conan that the second victim held his notebook during his dying moments. However, Shiratori leads Takagi away, saying to Kogoro that this is as far along as he knows, and says, "Need not to know." Conan then deducts the culprit may have been part of the police.

[[Sonoko]] and Ran are shown asking Eri how she proposed to Kogoro.

Sato later goes to the bathroom, and Ran follows her. After that, an explosion occurs, knocking out the lights. The culprit appears and Sato shields Ran from the bullets. The flashlight shows the culprit's face. Sato is shown unconscious, and Ran faints when she sees her blood-streaked hands, believing that Sato's injuries were the fault of her.

When Kogoro asks Megure for Sato's condition, Megure says a bullet stopped close to her heart, leaving a 50/50 chance of her survival. Sonoko later rushes into the room, saying Ran has regained consciousness, but is acting weird.

It is shown that Ran was struck with amnesia, and lost her memory of everybody she knew, including the memories of the current day. However, her brain was functioning normally. After this incident, Megure decides to leak the information about this case.

Megure starts by telling Kogoro of a surgeon named Jinno that was murdered.

The leader in the investigation squad was Tomonari; his subordinates were Narasawa, Shiba, and Sato. During the case, Tomonari suffers from a heart attack, but insists that no one worry, and to continue the stake out. Sato follows Tomonari, but he dies from a heart attack. When the remaining two see the targets, they notice that one of them is the Chief's son, Toshiya. Back then, the case was abruptly concluded as a suicide. The case reopened when the three subordinates were killed, with the exception of Sato, who was critically injured.

While Kogoro and Conan are looking over Ran, Conan comes to the conclusion that Ran may have witnessed the culprit's face, and mentions that Ran may be targeted.

Ran is later discharged from the hospital. When Ran tries to get out of the car, she seems to cower in fear because of a puddle. Kogoro reintroduces Ran to the house, but Ran seems to notice the picture of Shinichi. Kogoro, Conan, and Eri later try to regain Ran's memory.

The next day, the Detective Boys follow Ran around as guards. [[Haibara]] remarks that it may be better if Ran's memory wouldn't return. Ran seems to show a strange feeling when she sees Shinichi's picture. That night, Ran asks Conan about Shinichi.

The following day, Ran, Eri, and Conan are waiting at the subway station to go shopping. The culprit suddenly strikes and pushes Ran of onto the rails.

Conan barely manages to save her life. The doctor mentions that Ran may be scared to further regain her memory.

Conan later investigates the people related to Jinno, and finally realizes the culprit.

Ran is later taken to Tropical Land to help regain her memory. Ran has a flashback of Shinichi pressing the cola against her cheek. Takagi later goes to the bathroom, and a mascot character of Tropical Land suddenly walks towards Ran. At the moment, Detective Boys chase the person and take him down. Kogoro removed the mascot head and it is Makoto Tomonari. Kogoro also found the knife from his chest pocket. Tomonari was about to tell that he's not the murderer but it's too late. Takagi arrested him. The Detective Boys were celebrating for victory. Kogoro told Ran that he's going to the police station for questioning and also told her to stay at the Tropical Land until she regains her memory. Kogoro thanks the Detective Boys for saving his daughter, and they felt great about it.

At the police station, the police are questioning Tomonari. He reveals that he wasn't approaching to Ran. He wanted to talk to Kogoro for his help. He is innocent and the reason why he had the knife in his chest pocket is for his protection. That means the culprit is still out there. Kogoro is now worried about Ran.

In Tropical Land, the culprit later attacks Ran but Agasa protected Ran and got shot.

When the culprit later pins them down to a volcano, Conan reveals his deduction, and also reveals the culprit was the psychiatrist, '''Kyosuke Kazato''', who killed Jinno as revenge for having injured his hands to ruin his promising career, then kept killing to cover his leads -- which is why he wants Ran dead, as she managed to witness his last murder AND see his face clearly despite his efforts.

Conan and Ran then later escape down an escape hole. They run to a lava lake, where Ran asks Conan why is he protecting her. Conan replies that he loves Ran, more than anything in the world...

Conan later takes Ran to the fountain, the same place where Shinichi took Ran a long time ago, and Kazato finds them and starts shooting at Conan. Ran then finally breaks free of her amnesia upon seeing Conan in danger and recalling how Sato was shot to protect her; she loudly remarks on all of this and easily disables Kazato, turning him to the police. News later comes that Sato survived the surgery, and will be making a full recovery. Odagiri asks Conan who he is and Conan replies he is just a little kid.

Dr. Kazato had a great and promising life as a surgeon until Dr. Jinno purposely cut his left wrist during an operation. Dr. Kazato being left handed quit being a surgeon because of his pride and switched to being a psychiatrist. He then attempted to be a right handed person. He then met up with Jinno some time later and was invited inside his house. Dr. Kazato got drunk and asked if the incident was an accident. Dr. Jinno then smugly confessed. Dr. Kazato took advantage of the recent law suit against Dr. Jinno and killed him knowing it would be ruled as a suicide. Years later the case was reopened and Dr. Kazato killed all the people on the case. However Ran witnessed one of the murders and saw him. She had then gotten amnesia as an effect of blaming herself for the murder. Dr. Kazato then was assigned to take care of Ran. He began to target her. Conan realized this and saved her from getting run over by a train.

Ran tells Conan the line her dad told her mom he said to tell her that he loved her, leaving Conan (Shinichi) saying that he can't believe he used the same pick-up line as that stupid old man (Kogoro).

Shuichi Akai is an American of Japanese descent and member of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation, on special assignment in Japan to capture [[Vermouth]]. His superior is [[James Black]] and his partner is [[Jodie Starling]].<ref>Manga Chapter 434: Rotten Apple 5</ref> He had infiltrated the Black Organization under the name Dai Moroboshi - and the codename "Rye" - as a mole<ref>Manga Chapter 599: Akai's Past</ref> and dated [[Akemi Miyano]], one of their low-ranking members, to feed information to the FBI. == Personality ==
Akai is a tenacious but stoic agent. Even in personal matters, he remains cool, even detached, from anyone, but his redeeming value is a great sense of loyalty to anyone he knows. He is a skilled and relentless pursuer and detective, qualities which have labeled him the number one enemy of the [[Black Organization]] and earned him the nickname "[[Silver Bullet]]". He looks forward to opportunities to hunt the Black Organization down and get revenge for [[Akemi]]. While usually professional, he often acts independently of the FBI, and even his boss [[James Black]] has trouble getting ahold of him. Shuichi gets along well with Conan, who share many personality traits.

James Black says Akai is an introverted person who doesn't easily get close to people and he has become even more closed off since Akemi's death.<ref name=502p13>Manga Volume 49, File 2, page 13: "New Order"</ref> He doesn't often say what he is thinking. Shuichi has an unhealthy tendency to prioritize his missions above the emotional wellbeing of his friends, coworkers, family, and love interests.<ref>Shuichi's fake death, while preserving Kir and allowing her to pass info to the FBI, has caused significant dysfunction within the FBI who believe him to be truly dead. While Shuichi has been technically fulfilling the promise he made to look after Haibara's welfare as Okiya, he has executed it in such a way that Haibara was terrified of his presence and refused to be alone at the Agasa house when he was around.</ref> Conflict between his missions and the interests of those he cares about has lead to significant sorrow for him<ref>Shuichi didn't inform Akemi he was an FBI agent despite being in love because it might jeopardize his mission (and his relationship). Thus, the infiltration mission was the root cause of their secretkeeping which prevented them from coming up with an exit strategy for Akemi in case the mission failed. Even though he means well, Shuichi is notably clumsy at trying to comfort and connect with others. Despite his social awkwardness, Shuichi is not unempathetic; he gives Jodie some hope by leaving her a message in his own handwriting, and leaves her a very roundabout hint about his identity after knocking her down even though he cannot reveal the truth to her yet.

== Appearance ==
Akai is a tall man of Japanese descent with short wavy hair. His trademark features, by which people close to him have identified him are his eyes which have permanent bags underneath them that make him appear sleep deprived. Other characters often describe him as evil eyed or having a sharp gaze. His eyes are blue in the manga (like every other character) and green in the anime. He and [[Masumi Sera]] presumably more closely resemble their mother then their father.
The second trademark feature is his knit cap, which he is always shown wearing. When he was younger he had a grey fedora which Masumi now wears herself. Up to one year ago, he had very long waist length hair, which he cut after the death of Akemi Miyano "to freshen up." Akai is left-handed. He is a heavy smoker and his favorite drink is bourbon.

His outfit is a grey jacket on top of a collared black shirt, black pants, shoes, and his trademark black knit cap.

==== Akemi Miyano ====
Shuichi Akai and Akemi Miyano were lovers while he was infiltrating the [[Black Organization]]. Akai's original mission was to date Akemi Miyano in order to meet Shiho Miyano. Akai used Shiho's influence to gain rank in the Organization, intending to become trusted enough to meet with high level agents so the FBI could capture one for questioning. As [[James Black]] later recalls, although Akai's relationship with Akemi was merely a stepping stone, Akai actually fell in love with Akemi, and considered her his real girlfriend. Because of this he broke up with [[Jodie Starling]].

Sometime later, Akemi develops the suspicion that Akai really wasn't who he claimed to be. After Akai's expulsion, he confirms that he is an FBI agent to her. To Akai's surprise, Akemi doesn't seemed surprised by this, so Akai asks her why she never said anything about her suspicions that she was being used by him before, and Akemi hints it is because she loves him. Initially, the Organization couldn't do anything about Akemi because they needed the loyalty of her sister, but two years later they decided that the risk of her contact with Akai was too much. They decided to create a situation where they could eliminate her by having her do a bank heist she was supposed to fail. Sometime near the day of the heist, Akemi sent Akai a long text message, asking him if he wants to be her real boyfriend when she is finally free from the Organization. After the heist, Akemi is killed by [[Gin]], and it is unknown how Akai responded if at all. Akai treasures her final text message, and keeps it in his phone many months after Akemi's death. The message also contains a P.S. which has not been revealed yet.

How Akemi and Akai met in the manga is unknown, but in the anime, Shuichi Akai originally met Akemi by an intentional accident. She accidentally hit him with her car when he deliberately walked into the street in front of her in order to be hit by her.<ref>Episode 497</ref> Akemi was concerned, and helped take him to the hospital, watching over him until he was better. When he woke up, he felt no anger over what she did, and even asked for her name, to which a very flustered Akemi replied, while he told her his fake name: Dai Moroboshi. After this they began dating.

While Jodie and Akai's relationship had been viewed as mere colleagues, it is revealed later on in the series that Jodie and Akai had dated before about 5 years prior. However, after Akai infiltrated the Black Organization under the alias of Dai Moroboshi, he started dating Akemi Miyano in hopes of using her to attain information about the Black Organization. [[Andre Camel]] worked with [[Shuichi Akai]] before when he was an agent in the [[Black Organization]]. Camel was involved in the plan to capture Gin two years ago, but he gave away the plan of the FBI when he saw a member of the organization disguised as an old man. Because of this, Akai's identity became known to the Organization. However, Akai does not seem to bear a grudge against Camel but worked together well.

When Haibara first met Akai, she thought he was a member of the Black Organization. Akai seems to know of Haibara's identity. While at a camping trip, The Detective Boys are surprisingly greeted by Masumi Sera. While the Professor sets up camp and Conan chats with Sera, Ayumi, Genta, Haibara, and Mitsuhiko venture into the woods and come across a man burying a body.

The culprit is '''Chouzou Usagi'''. The woman was Chouzou's girlfriend and a kindergarden teacher. The dying message was her fingers in the shape of a rabbit ([兎]usagi) shadow puppet. He killed her because she stuck him in a small dark cabin with her despite his claustrophobia. She was trying to cure him of it when Chouzou had a panic attack and killed her. He then states he trapped the Detective Boys in the cabin and set it on fire. Haibara uses an antidote she prepared to become Shiho Miyano and save the others. Mitsuhiko later sends a picture of Shiho Miyano "Sherry" to Kogorou to find her and say thanks and also shows the picture to Sera. Amuro and Subaru Okiya hack Kogorou's computer to find the image, with Sherry wearing a Mystery Train ring. The events that follow occur later in the Mystery Train case where the Black Organization returns to kill Sherry.
