== Background ==

Not much is known about Chikage yet as her appearances in Magic Kaito have been limited to the first chapter of [[Magic Kaito Volume 1|Volume 1]] and the animated special [[Magic Kaito: Kid the Phantom Thief]]. == Plot overview ==
Chikage has to-date only appeared in a minor supporting role in Magic Kaito. In the manga, she lived with Kaito and seemed to be a stay-at-home mom. Though it has yet to be confirmed, she seems to be aware of her son and husband's alter-ego, as when Kaito first activates the mechanism that unlocks the room where Kid's suit is, she hears the sound and thinks to herself 'don't tell me...' - hinting that she recognizes the noise<ref>{{cite book |last=Aoyama |first=Gosho |title=Magic Kaito|volume=1 |publisher=Shogakukan |date= |isbn= |chapter=1: Return of the Mysterious Thief |language=Japanese |location=Tokyo |page= }}</ref>.

In the anime adaptation of the first chapter of Magic Kaito, however, Chikage is abroad. From a skype conversation with her son, it seems that she has been traveling extensively, as Kaito grouses "Geez, spending Dad's savings..." At the time of the episode, she was in Vegas with another unnamed woman, and claimed to have already seen three magic shows that day.

It has been suggested by Conan that whoever is the mother of Kaitou Kid is is also the thief known as "Phantom Lady" because of a remark Kid made at the Ryoma Gunbelt heist<ref>{{cite book |last=Aoyama |first=Gosho |title=Detective Conan |volume= |publisher=Shogakukan |date= |isbn= |chapter=733: The Cleaning |language=Japanese |location=Tokyo |page= }}</ref>. Kid is infamous for having a rather arrogant attitude, always preferring to create as big a bang as possible. He loves nothing more then leading the police in wild goose chases, letting them get within a hair of catching him before exiting one way or another. Seemingly having a soft-spot for his fans, there has been more then one occasion when Kid has refused to show when the police tried to bar the general public from witnessing his act. Kaitou Kid is also quite a charmer, seeming to always know just what to say to the ladies to leave them speechless. Kid hates to see others get hurt, and never hesitates in leaping to rescue someone, whether physically or mentally.

Shiho Miyano and her older sister, [[Akemi Miyano|Akemi]], were born into the secret crime syndicate "The Black Organization". She was born to an English mother, Elena Miyano, and a Japanese father, Atsushi Miyano. Both of whom were members of the organization, and deceased. A prodigy, she was sent to the United States for education at a very young age, then later came back to Japan to finish her parents' secret project for the organization. Her nickname in the Organization is "Sherry", after the alcohol.

Shiho was about 18 years old when she developed the experimental test compound for APTX 4869. She discovered that it could be used as a poison to kill without leaving any traces of itself in a body. In the manga, while researching its effects, Shiho noticed that a rare few of her lab mice had become younger after being given the drug instead of dying. Meanwhile, the Black Organization started using APTX 4869 to commit untraceable murders. Unaware of the drug's rare side effect, when they used it on Shinichi Kudo, the Organization orders a search for him because his body had not been found. Shiho searched Shinichi's house twice after he had been shrunk to confirm his death for the Black Organization. She began to suspect Shinichi's transformation after she searched his house for a second time and found that his clothes from primary school were missing. Shiho then confirmed him as deceased so the organization would not look into the matter further and kill him.

Her unhappiness over the Black Organization's usage of the APTX 4869 (for killing purposes), in addition to her open questioning over the murder of her sister, Akemi Miyano, resulted in her imprisonment and scheduled execution by the Black Organization. With no other way out, she took a pill of APTX 4869 to commit suicide.

Like Shinichi, she is one of the only two known rare cases who didn't die after taking the drug; but instead shrunk into a seven or eight year old girl. In her new smaller body, she escapes from the Black Organization and collapses in front of Shinichi's house, hoping he may be able to help her. She was then found and adopted by Hiroshi Agasa.

Shiho has a sang-froid, mistrustful, sarcastic and cold attitude and often reminds others about the darker side of reality and human nature. As Ai Haibara she acts older than she is supposed to be, which the Shounen Tantei refer to her as "cool". But despite her jaded demeanor, she has shown to be kind and caring at occasion. She's a bit quiet, though this may be due to her caution to keep herself hidden from the Black Organization. She is sometimes cold and very analytical, however, there are times where she softens her demeanor and reveals herself to be a true friend. Simply put, Heiji is 'that guy' - the one who seems to make it his personal goal to brighten everyone's days. Almost always seen with a cocky smirk on his face, he has a habit of over thinking things and then laughing at himself for it. Heiji's the sort of person who'd fall into the mud, and laugh about it along with everyone else while still covered in dirt. Even while solving a case he tends to be lighthearted and good humored, preferring to work through it with a grin on his face.

He's also known to be extremely protective of those he values as close friends, and tries hard to keep them out of harm. There's several instances where he'll tell Kazuha to stay out of cases, simply because he's afraid of her getting hurt. Furthermore, he's pretty much always watching Shinichi's back, and does whatever he can to not only keep the boy safe, but to keep his identity under cover.

Heiji's relationship with Kazuha Toyama is a very close one; they were childhood friends, and have stayed close even through the years. But of course this is not true since he has shown that he is protective of her when she is with other guys and says that he will never let her get hurt no matter what. Now Kazuha has the same feelings for him, as well as being protective and chasing of other women that might have a interest in him. Also they have the same situation as Ran and Shinichi as of being childhood friends that have romantic feelings for each other and has the same back round as them since Heiji is a teenage detective and she is a detective's daughter sort of like Ran is a detective's daughter and Shinichi is a teenage detective. They are called the 'Ran and Shinichi of Osaka' by fans since there so similar. Even Though they might have there fights they will still love each other no matter what. It is also showed in the 7th movie that he fell in love with her (without noticing it was Kazuha) which was his first love and is still his only love.

Heiji can be a little bit worried for Shinichi when he gets into trouble and in a life or death situation as so far as to tell him to stay out of trouble. They are as close as real live brothers, both being detective's and having feelings for their childhood friends. When they're caught solving a case together, it's not unusual for their minds to move in sync, and they'll often speak in pretty much perfect tandem.

He loves nothing more then leading the police in wild goose chases, letting them get within a hair of catching him before exiting one way or another. Seemingly having a soft-spot for his fans, there has been more then one occassion when Kid has refused to show when the police tried to bar the general public from witnessing his act. Kaito Kid is also quite a charmer, seeming to always know just what to say to the ladies to leave them speechless. Despite the fact the other is seen as a villian, Kid obviously hates to see other's get hurt, and never hesitates in leaping to rescue someone, wether physically or mentally.

As Conan, Shinichi helps Ran's father solve cases by putting him to sleep and simulating Kogoro's voice using the special bowtie gadget Dr. Agasa made for him. By solving cases one after the other, he helps build up Kogoro's reputation who will later on be referred to as "Sleeping Kogoro". He also spends a good amount of time with his Detective Boys fellows and solves many small cases with them and sometimes in the company of Dr. Agasa.

As the story progresses, Conan later befriends biochemist [[Ai Haibara]]. She is the creator of the APTX 4869 drug but took the drug in order to escape from the Black Organization. Conan has run into the Black Organization multiple times, but he fails in tracking them due to Gin's cleverness.

Throughout the series Conan has returned back to normal. First he temporary returns to normal after drinking alcohol while infected with a cold.<ref>[[Diplomat Murder Case|Episodes 48-49: Diplomat Murder Case]].</ref> He quickly turns back into Conan after solving the case. The next time was after taking the prototype antidote for APTX 4869.

APTX is a fictional toxin and a derivative of an experimental immortality formula developed by [[Shiho Miyano]], which is used by the Black Organization as an untraceable, lethal poison. APTX usually causes death but may, in very rare cases, decrease the victim's apparent age instead. Shinichi falls victim to the poison in the series' pilot. Later Shiho Miyano, who chooses to attempt suicide by using her own drug, was added to the two known people to have survived after taking the APTX-4869.

Throughout the series there are several instances in which the APTX was temporarily neutralized and Shinichi and Shiho were returned to their actual age forms. The main ingredient for this reversal is a component found in Chinese [[ginseng]] root [[schnaps]], which Ai has already incorporated in a prototype antidote for the APTX. It is to note that in the instances where Shinichi or Shiho changed back, the recipient was suffering from a common cold while the component was ingested, indicating that the immune system somehow has to be taxed for the antidote to work.
