This list excludes main characters, main law enforcement, the Black Organization, and mystery people related to the arc (e.g. Eisuke or Araide).
Kojima Family

Genji Kojima (32) is Genta's father, a true "Edokko" (child of Tokyo). For most of the series he was an unseen character, only mentioned by Genta from time to time. However, he finally made his debut in the Kojima Contest Case.

Genji Kojima is first met by Conan and the other Detective Boys during a "Super Kojima" contest, which is actually a front for the show's sponsor, an eccentric industrialist named Gonsaku Kojima, to find the thief of a highly-priced painting who had also murdered his beloved dog. However, the plan turns into a homicide case when the sponsor is murdered- and Genta's father, as one of the three finalists, becomes one of the suspects in the case. Conan, however, manages to prove Genji's innocence and reveal the identity of the real culprit, who promptly denies the confession he has just made. However, Genji trips him up and confronts him so aggressively that the delinquent meekly admits his guilt and is subsequently arrested.

Genji's residence is also a liquor store by the name of "Kojima Liquors".

Genji Kojima prides himself of being a true edokko ("child of Tokyo"): He has a strong sense of justice, is confrontational, loves sushi and speaks with a distinct, old-fashioned dialect. He can be harsh and demanding, but he is actually very kind and caring. Though he appears strongwilled, he - like his son - may actually live under the thumb of his rather formidable wife.

First appears in Volume 63 and is the keyhole character for that volume. He is voiced by Akio Nojima.
Midori Megure
Megure Family

Midori Megure (37-38) is Inspector Megure's wife. When Midori was about 18 years old, a serial hit-and-runner was stalking the streets, randomly targeting high school girls wearing long skirts, due to the harassment by a girl gang he had suffered under (the girls had been wearing long skirts as well, as a part of their rebellious looks). Midori was also a member of a girl gang, and her best friend ended up the first fatality, so since the culprit had not been caught after a while she decided to help apprehend the killer and volunteered to act as a decoy. There was an apparent shortage of police able to help her, and Midori was extremely stubborn and insisted to be alone; under orders of Commisioner Matsumoto, she was teamed up with Juzo Megure, then still a junior police officer.

Unfortunately, the car runner surprised and hit them both. Megure tried to pull Midori out of danger, but they were still harmed; fortunately, Megure was able to remember the car's license number, and the perpetrator was soon arrested. Midori was gravely injured in the accident, but recovered with only a scar on her forehead to show for her ordeal, and some time afterwards she married Megure out of gratitude. In a strange switch of role, she is perhaps the only person who has managed to temper his impulsive surges, a role her husband feels a bit bashful about.

Midori has also appeared, in an unseen role, as a witness to a crime and had to be taken to the station for questioning, as well as making a cameo appearance during the White Day Murder Case.

In her youth, Midori was quite headstrong and vindictive, even wild in behavior. Megure's memories about the case where they met have her calling the police useless for not catching her friend's murderer, then cockily saying she's a good decoy, and then only admitting she chewed on more than she could swallow after being almost killed by the same culprit. It's hinted but not directly stated that Midori was a sukeban or girl delinquent in these times, hence why she was so determined to catch the man who killed her friend and other girls of the same subculture.

Since her near-death accident and her marriage to Megure, Midori has mellowed considerably and has evolved into a loving wife - perhaps this is the main reason why Megure keeps his head and the scar he shares with Midori always covered up, so no one will learn about her past. However, she still retains a younger girl's personality, as evidenced when she was upset enough to get drunk when she thought Megure didn't get her anything for White Day and how happy she was when she found her present.

She is the keyhole character for Volume 29. She is voiced by Ai Orikasa.

Jinpei Matsuda was originally a member of the Tokyo Police bomb squadron. His partner Hagiwara was killed four years previously by a serial bomber who had sworn revenge on the police for the accidental death of his partner. When the killer resurfaced three years ago, Matsuda's superiors, fearing that he would become reckless due to personal interest, transferred him to Inspector Megure's department, where he was promptly partnered with Miwako Sato, then a stll-fledging detective.

Sato was at first put off by his direct manner, but then the bomber appeared in their district less than a week later, depositing an explosive charge in a Ferris wheel at an amusement park. When Matsuda attempted to disarm the bomb, the killer trapped him inside and revealed the existence of yet another bomb hidden in the city. As the countdown of the Ferris wheel bomb would wind down, the name of the second bomb's location would be gradually displayed, claiming a policeman's life for the life of innocents, as the bomber had intended. Matsuda sent the bomb location to Sato via SMS just as the final seconds ran out, his last thoughts being regret that he would not be able to drink to his partner's memory following the apprehension of the culprit.

Matsuda's death haunted Sato for years to come, as she had fallen in love with him, and she kept his final message on her cell phone as a reminder of him. When the bomb killer was finally caught by her and Takagi, she managed to put behind the haunt of her past, though she promised herself never to forget about Matsuda.

Upon his transfer to the Tokyo Metropolian Police, Sato found Matsuda rather blunt and aloof, since he spoke out his mind no matter what anybody would think. However, despite his personal interest in the case which eventually claimed his life, Matsuda remained cool and professional, placing the safety of Sato (for whom he had come to care as well) and innocents over his own life - qualities which had won Sato's heart.
He was moved from Tokyo to Tottori in order to investigate a large crime syndicate there. Chosuke first appeared in MPD Case 6, in which the other Tokyo police thought Wataru Takagi was being sent to Tottori. Chosuke investigated a crime with Miwako Sato and Wataru Takagi that involved a friend of Chiba's. After the case was solved, Takagi found out that it was Chosuke being sent to Tottori and not him. Chosuke was shown to be very aggressive at times in an investigation. Once he grabbed Chiba by the collar and slammed him against the wall just to ask him for confirmation to a question. He is also very efficient at investigating, taking notice of minor details and connecting the dots rather quickly. He suspected Chiba of lying to protect his friend in the first case he appeared in, because he believed that as a police detective he had to suspect everyone no matter how good they are.
Hikaru Yasumoto
Hikaru Yasumoto (22) once suffered from overwork, which nearly ruptured her appendix, and had to spend some time in the hospital. There she met Tomoaki Araide, then a medical student in his practical period, who looked after her. After her recovery, she was hired by Tomoaki's stepmother, Yoko Araide, as a housemaid and aid to her eldery mother-in-law, Mitsu Araide.

Eventually, Hikaru became an unwitting pawn in Yoko's scheme to murder her womanizing husband for driving her dear friend, Tomoaki's mother, to suicide. When Yoko Araide was exposed as the murderer, Conan - through his use of the "Sleeping Kogoro" - suggested that Hikaru's unknowing involvement in Dr. Araide's murder be kept secret, lest it would cause her a serious shock if she found out that she had helped killing her employer. This secret fact eventually proved vital in exposing Vermouth.

When Vermouth decided to infiltrate the Beika area disguised as Dr. Araide, she attempted to have Tomoaki and his family eliminated. However, FBI agent Jodie Starling, who had been observing Vermouth undercover, was able to thwart the plan, rescuing the Araides and Hikaru and bringing them to America for safekeeping. After Vermouth's cover was finally blown, Hikaru returned to Beika along with her employers and has continued to serve them ever since.

Hikaru appears to be a very friendly and caring, if rather shy and emotional, person. During her stint with Araide senior, she was prone to minor household accidents. These accidents may have occurred due to the possibility that she has a crush on her employer's son and therefore was anxious about having to leave him, or him getting involved with someone else.
Kyosuke Haga (32) is a skilled musician and was shown to be quite capable of playing a Stradivarius. He also had perfect pitch. He is the nephew of Choichiro (head of the Shitara family).

Kyosuke murdered 2 people in a murder case relating to a Stradivarius. Conan, after some investigation, used "Sleeping Kogoro" to expose him as the culprit. Kyosuke attempted to commit suicide by jumping out a window, but his plan was foiled by Conan, who had predicted what he would try to do.

When Kyosuke was being taken away by the police, Conan asked him if he knew any songs that began with "B A G A" (or "H A G A"). ===Yoshiaki Hara===

Yoshiaki Hara (32) known as Zachary Hara in the FUNimation dub is a minor Black Organization member who appears only in the fifth movie, Countdown to Heaven. He was a game programmer and hacker who was shot and killed by Gin.

Hara is the main game programmer for the Tokiwa Corporation in Twin Tower Buildings. He invented and programmed many games for the company, some of which the Detective Boys enjoyed greatly. One of his many inventions include a machine that creates a picture of what you would look like ten years later. He was recruited by the Black Organization for his hacking skills, but when he was caught hacking into the Organizations's main computers and retracting the data, Gin met him in his house and shot him at point blank range. Gin and Vodka later erased all the data from his home computer and blew up the Twin Tower's main computer room to avoid any information being leaked.

Unlike most Black Organization members, Hara is a friendly man who isn't very violent in any way. He was recruited without much choice, and he never really got the dark Black Organization blood flowing through him. He was, in fact, planning on finding out what the Organization's true intentions were and betray them, but was killed in the process. As described by Tokiwa Mio, Hara can be very "childish". Hara was caught eating chocolate, and even gave a few pieces to the Detective Boys. He even let the Detective Boys help work on a new game he was programming. Unfortunately, Hara was shot by Gin before that could happen.

He is voiced by Koichi Hashimoto in the Japanese version and Jakie Cabe in the FUNimation dub.
Irish
Irish is a Black Organization member who appears as the main antagonist and eponymous Raven Chaser in Movie 13. He was killed by Chianti.

Not much is known about Irish, except that he had a lot of respect for Pisco. It is stated that Pisco was like a father to Irish. Pisco was an elderly member of the Black Organization who was killed by Gin. Ever since, Irish has had a strong grudge against Gin. It is not known if Irish ever killed anyone, but it is assumed that he had in the past.

Irish wasn't a very high ranking member, though he was quite smart. It is very apparent that Irish lacked a high rank in the organization when Gin cold-heartedly ordered Chianti to shoot him. Irish had managed to find out Conan was actually Shinichi relatively quickly. Ran arrived at Tokyo Tower and found Irish (still disguised as Matsumoto) brutally beating Conan. He shot a bullet at her, but she dodged it and gush out a gun from his hand. Then the fight began, Irish rashly attacked Ran assigning a hard kick on her face and when he was to complete, Ran mow him down and tried to concentrate. This time, Irish's next hard attacks were successfully stoped by Ran and she used karate, but a kick to his face teared off part of his mask, thus surprised her. Irish used this to his advantage and overpowered Ran. As it is seen during the duel with Ran, Irish was a very harsh person and wasn't afraid to hit a girl. In fight, Irish was very reliable of his own strength, he didn't prefered any techniques and never took defense position. His strong body he used and tall size gave him additional advantage. Like Gin and Vermouth, Irish had a high pain tolerance. When Ran kicked him, part of his mask was torn off. He became furious and reciprocated more powerful kick to her. Beside that Ran's kick allowed him to enjoy the fight even more. For anoher example: when Chianti shot him, he was seroiuly injured by the bullet and was barely alive. Conan tried to drag him to safety but Gin noticed him and tried to shoot him. Irish protected him and died. It is very possible that Pisco's death may have caused Irish's cold-blooded and harsh personality. He didn't hesitated when he shot a bullet at Ran and he hit Conan so hard that he flew a few meters away and collapsed on the floor. Even after that Irish just continued beating him. Throughout the series it seems that Makoto and Irish are the only who can defeat Ran in fight.

Irish was also a master of disguise. He disguised as Kiyonaga Matsumoto as he investigated the true identity of Conan.

Irish looks up to and admires Pisco. He is therefore devastated when Pisco is cold-hearted killed by Gin. The four other Organization members (Gin, Vodka, Chianti, and Korn) seem to look down on Irish. Gin doesn't hesitate when he orders Chianti to shoot him. Chianti doesn't question Gin's assassination command and Korn, who usually remains silent, says that he wanted to shoot him, hinting that he wouldn't think twice about killing Irish.

Beside Vermouth, Irish is the only member of the Black Organization who showed respect for Conan. When Chianti shot Irish, Conan tried to drag him to safety while he was still alive but Chianti shot again and Irish protected him and died. His final words to Conan were, "Kudo Shinichi...Keep...coming after us...".
Generic, is a Black Organization member that was exclusively in the Special Manga of Detective Conan, the series that is not written by Gosho Aoyama.

Generic was abandoned by his parents while he was a young child and the Black Organization, seeing his incredible intelligence, adopted him at the age of 13. While in the Black Organization, he was often picked on due to his cowardly personality but Sherry (while still in the Black Organization) saved him a couple of times. After this he always come and help Sherry with her experiments.

However, he was given orders to leave Sherry alone and to make a new drug that controls memories. The organization planned to use this drug on all important people of the world, ergo having complete control of the world.

After Sherry ran away, he followed suit and began tracking her down. He stole APTX-4869 before Sherry's lab was destroyed and took it, therefore turning into a six year old child. He then searched all elementary schools and found out where she was in hopes they can live together in a new life by altering the memories of a couple who had lost their child in a accident.

While in the Black Organization he was often picked on by the other members due to his cowardly personality. However, Sherry protected him a few times, and he soon began to look at her as more of an older sister than a coworker. It is also possible that he has developed romantic feelings for her when he states that he wants to run away live together with her and even goes as far as trying to erase her memory to do so.

Natsuki Koshimizu (20) was a High School Detective from Fukuoka, the capital of the Fukuoka Prefecture on Kyūshū, the southernmost island of the Japanese mainland. It is not known for how long exactly she has been engaged in investigative work; according to her own statement, however, she was a relative newcomer, with only 100 solved cases on her credit.

One year ago, a year after Natsuki had finished high school, a wealthy socialite was found hanged inside her manor house. The police and Natsuki concluded at first that she must have committed suicide (as she really had), but some time later Junya Tokitsu, another high school detective, appeared on the scene and declared that her death was actually a murder. This was a serious misconception, as Junya had fallen for a trick prepared by a burglar after the murder, but it was enough for the police to open a murder investigation. The only suspect in the case was the lady's young housemaid, Natsuki's best friend. She was repeatedly and harshly questioned by the police, and even though no conclusive evidence could be brought up against her, the girl cracked under the strain and eventually committed suicide.

Because Junya later realized that his deduction had been false, he asked to remain anonymous, and so Natsuki had only few scant clues to work with as she set out to avenge her friend's death. She finally decided to arrange a fake detectives' reality TV competition (Detective Koshien), with the most reputable High School Detectives attending; next to Junya and herself, this included Heiji Hattori and Shinichi Kudo (who could attend only as Conan Edogawa), and Saguru Hakuba, who had been asked to fill in for Shinichi. She arranged for her trap to be sprung on a remote island, cutting off all connections to the mainland while she sought to find the culprit.

Natsuki finally worked out that Junya was the person responsible and killed him by bashing his head with a hammer when he demonstrated his callousness and self-interest about the past case with no feelings of remorse whatsoever. She also trapped herself and her entourage on the island to die of starvation, since two of them - the burglar who had unintentionally backed up Junya's claims, by using the trick he discovered, to try stealing from the manor; and the manor's butler who had refused to clear the case out of misguided affection for the lady, since he didn't want people to know she was mentally ill due to the huge prejudices against mental illnesses in Japan - were also (if more indirectly) responsible for her friend's death. Conan and Heiji managed to expose her as the culprit, and she quietly allowed herself to be given to the authorities, but not before expressing her deepest respect for the two and the hope of working with them some time in the future.

Natsuki is apparently a capable investigator; however, as the Detective Koshien Case has proven, she tends to be extremely stubborn and single-minded if a case touches her personally, and she pursues the culprit(s) relentlessly until they are brought to justice. Though she is by no means a thoroughly evil person, but actually a gentle and considerate character, her persistance does tend to cloud her judgement at times. On her plus side, she is a careful planner and strategist, as well as being a natural actress.

Natsuki has also apparently developed a closer personal interest in Heiji Hattori for his impulsive, but ultimately dedicated demeanor.

She is the keyhole character for Volume 54. She is voiced by Risa Hayamizu.
Junya Tokitsu
Junya Tokitsu (18) was the High School Detective representing the North in the Detective Koshien that Conan Edogawa, Heiji Hattori, Saguru Hakuba and Natsuki Koshimizu attended. Though he was born in Tokyo, he grew up in Hokkaido. He had handled approximately 300 cases, where more than 250 people were arrested and prosecuted while got away and committed suicide. He was invited to participate in the Detective Koshien by a fake Nichiuri director.

After excusing himself to prepare his deductions for the first round case, he was later found dead in his room. It was locked room murder case. The suspects were Koshimizu, Kouya and Tsuchio. Later, Conan found out the murderer. Koshimizu Natsuki killed Tokitsu Junya and used the same locked room trick that was used in the Lavender Murder Case.

Tokitsu Junya was the detective involved during that case who unfortunately made wrong deductions saying that it was murder case even though it was actually a suicide. He realized that his deduction was wrong but didn't correct himself; that caused Natsuki's friend to be suspected and later commit suicide. When Natsuki confronted him on it, Junya showed little to no remorse, which sent her over the edge and caused her to beat him to death with a hammer.

Tokitsu has rather odd speech patterns, referring to himself as shousei (小生). This is a rather archaic, self-deprecating form of "I" used by males with equals and subordinates; nowadays it's rare, but still used sometimes in letters and such. This is actually quite important to the plot, since Natsuki's friend noticed how unusual it was and told Natsuki that "a highschool detective with an odd accent" was the one who mistakenly got her accused for the Lavender Murder Case. Not knowing the name of said "highschool detective", which wasn't released to the press due to being a minor, Natsuki gathered a group of sleuths fitting the description: Tokitsu, Hakuba (whose Japanese was odd-sounding due to living abroad), and Heiji (who has a strong Osaka accent).

He is voiced by Miki Shinichirou.
Minerva Glass Appearances

Minerva Glass (22) is an excellent tennis player from London, England.
When she was younger she lived in Japan. She placed first in Wimbledon for five consecutive years. She was ranked Number 1 and earned the name 'Grass Court Queen'.

Her father was German and her mother was English. Her father and little sister died an a traffic accident eight years prior to the current storyline. She has a younger brother named Apollo. She was coached by Ares Ashley, who was coached by her father. Ares quit coaching Minerva (although he liked her) because he blamed himself for her dad's death, since the he had died in the traffic accident when he'd been on his way to watch Ares's match. This saddened Minerva greatly.

After four consecutive years of domination at Wimbledon, Minerva was once again involved in it, vying for the top spot. A murderer named Hades put a bomb in Wimbledon in order to get revenge on Minerva's mother, whom he blamed for losing all his possessions after he lost a bet that Minerva would win a certain tennis match, which led to his mother being unavle to have surgery, which resulted in her death (Minerva lost the match because her mother wasn't there to encourage her).

Minerva met Ran and later Kogoro. During the match, Minerva received a note from Hades telling her he was targeting her mother. She began placing her serves in certain order and places, leaving a message in braille which Conan deciphered. Using his help, the culprit was caught and Minerva won the match for the fifth consecutive year.

Minerva later met Ran and Kogoro at the airport before they left to go back to Japan so she can thank Ran for her e-mail. She was very happy, thanks to the e-mail as well as the fact that Ares planned to become a tennis player again and had received a reply to an e-mail she had sent him.

Minerva is very friendly and cheerful. She took the trouble of going to the airport before Ran and Kogoro left for Japan in order to thank Ran for an e-mail she had sent her. She is an excellent tennis player, being able to calculate the placements of her serves in order to make a code which she hoped someone would figure out and come rescue her.

Her name is a reference to the Roman goddess Minerva (or Athena in Greek) as she has Apollo for her brother, her mother named Juno (Hera in Greek) and a coach named Ares. She is the keyhole character for Volume 71.

While watching a tennis match, Apollo received a note from a mysterious person who would turn out to be Hades. While looking for Sherlock Holmes, he met Conan, who said he was "Holmes's Apprentice", who took the note to investigate it. Later on Apollo went to his older sister to tell her about "Holmes's Apprentice". Eventually Apollo accompanied Ran and Kogoro as they investigated in London.
Hidemi Hondou, also known by her alias Rena Mizunashi, and by her Black Organization codename Kir, is a character in the manga and anime franchise Detective Conan.

Background
Hidemi Hondou is an undercover CIA agent who has managed to infiltrate the Black Organization under the codename Kir. She has a younger brother named Eisuke. She was forced to kill her father, Ethan Hondou, who was also in the CIA, after a mistake nearly caused her to lose her cover in the organization.

Conan first encountered Hidemi as a newscaster under the alias Rena Mizunashi when she asked Kogoro Mouri to solve a trivial stalking case. Due to an accident, Conan later discovered she was a codenamed Black Organization agent and a leading participant in an assassination plot. While foiling the plot with the aid of Jodie Starling and the FBI, Hidemi suffered an accident and fell into a coma, whereupon she was secretly interred in a hospital secretly. The Black Organization and her younger brother Eisuke began looking for her. Later, the FBI and Conan discovered her true allegiance to the CIA and tricked the Organization into recapturing her so she could continue her infiltration mission.

Personality
Despite having to maintain her cover within the Black Organization, Hidemi remains a compassionate person and attempts to preserve as many lives as she can. Having seen him in action, she has come to trust Conan and his judgment implicitly. Among the members of the Organization though, she appears to be cold and obedient to her superiors, but she acts a bit more merciful than the others, causing Gin to get suspicious of her at times.

Plot overview
Black Impact (Manga: 499-504, Anime: 425)
Hidemi first met Conan in her newscaster identity. For some time Rena had been stalked at her own housedoor, with sleeping pills left regularly on her doorstep. Rena's friend Yoko decided to call in Kogoro, who came of course in Ran's and Conan's company. In order to track down the culprit, Conan pasted a bug next to her door.<br>Eventually, the stalker turned out to be a young boy. The reason for his leaving pills was that his late mother ostensibly resembled Hidemi, and in order to see her more regularly on TV, he had deposited the pills so she could have more restful sleeps. Facing these facts, Rena gently encouraged the boy to get over his mother's death and start his own life now. Shortly after Conan and the others left, Rena also departed, but in the process Conan's bug fell off and accidentally got stuck to the sole of her shoe. Right afterwards, to Conan's immense shock, Rena made a call to no other than Gin, who directed her to the attempted assassination of a popular politician; under the guise of a TV interview, Rena was to guide him to a place where he could be easily dispatched.

Conan of course decided to intervene, and he, Professor Agasa and Ai took up the pursuit, during which they also met Jodie Starling who tagged along as well. They just barely managed to thwart the assassination, but the Organization decided to execute a backup plan, with Rena pursuing their target on a motorbike. When the FBI attempted to apprehend her, an accident ensued in which Rena was critically injured and fell into a coma. She was delivered into the Haido Central Hospital and kept under constant guard of the FBI.

Eisuke's arrival
Shortly after Rena was hospitalized, a clumsy young man named Eisuke Hondou moved into the neighborhood and decided to tag along with Kogoro. His suspicious behavior and his astonishing physical similarity to Rena lead Conan to believe that he was somehow in cahoots with her.

Clash of Red and Black (Manga: 595-609, Anime: 495-504)
In time it turned out that Eisuke was in fact Rena's/Hidemi's younger brother, who had been looking for her after she had inexplicably disappeared. She was in fact an agent of the CIA who had taken her father's place as a mole in the Organization following a blunder on her part, which had forced her father to sacrifice himself to save his daughter and maintain her cover.

Akai's death at Raiha Pass (Manga: 605-609, Anime: 501-504)
Gin is suspicious of how ineffective the FBI's plan was and that Akai didn't make a strong move. Gin thinks Akai is still hiding something and that doubt is relayed to the boss who plans a test of Kir's loyalty. Meanwhile, Andre Camel becomes a suspect in a coincidental murder case. The Black Organization hears about it, and taking advantage of the FBI's distraction, Gin orders Kir to call Akai out to meet with her and kill him to regain the boss' trust. Kir meets with Akai at Raiha Pass and apparently kills him, although there is the possibility that Akai and Kir conspired to fake Akai's death.

Bourbon
After having regained her standing in the Organization, she continues to feed information to both the FBI and the CIA, including that an agent named Bourbon had been sent to track down a renegade member. However, ever since her recovery, Gin has been keeping a sharp eye on her, especially when Akai appeared to have resurfaced unexpectedly. However, so far Hidemi has - with a good portion of luck, fast-talking and circumstances - avoided giving herself away.

Plot Exposition
Hints that Hidemi was the biological older sister of Eisuke Hondou
*They look alike. Both have unique matching eye designs.
*Mizunashi Rena mentioned having a little brother just after the Ding-Dong Dash case. After hearing that the child's mother died, which mirrors her own family situation, she became emotional to the point of crying. Conan noted a similar reaction of Eisuke's later likely meant he wasn't acting.
*Eisuke has a mark on his chest where a needle was inserted to monitor his leukemia. A nurse later revealed that he has leukemia and was given an bone marrow transplant. Bone marrow transplants change the blood type of the receiver to that of the marrow donor, so Eisuke's blood type changed from type O to type AB. Later his sister was able to donate AB blood to him because of this.
*Hidemi and Eisuke both use the same classical lie detection technique - feeling for the pulse while watching the pupils - which is taught by some American law enforcement agencies.

Hints that Hidemi was a member of the CIA and not loyal to the Black Organization
*Hidemi asked for help on a case from Kogoro. Haibara points out that this is strange behavior for a Black Org agent. It is later revealed that she asked Kogoro for help because she was going to ask him to protect Eisuke because Hidemi knew that she couldn't keep Eisuke away from her.
*In her introductory case, Hidemi uses several stock CIA expressions, such as a Japanese transliteration of a quote from John F. Kennedy's speech at CIA headquarters, "Your successes are unheralded--your failures are trumpeted."
*Conan discovered that Ethan Hondou, Eisuke Hondou's father, was a member of "The Company" - a nickname for the CIA. If Eisuke is Hidemi's sister, as Conan discovered because of Eisuke's surgery, that means Hidemi's father was in the CIA, and thus it is possible she followed in her father's footsteps.
*Kir hesitates right before she directs Domon to the bench where he will be assassinated, showing that she has second thoughts about what she is doing.
*Despite hearing Jodie's silenced gunshots that damage the sprinklers, Kir does not report this interference to Gin.
*She uses a classical lie detection technique - feeling for the pulse while watching the pupils - which is taught by some American law enforcement agencies.
*Conan is caught by Kir when he rushes up to take the tracker off of her shoe, and she uses the aforementioned lie detection technique to ask Conan "Did you follow me here?" Conan denies it, but assuming Kir is competent, she would have spotted the lie. She then tells Conan, "Thank you... for picking my shoe up... I owe you one. Really..." Such a level of thanks and relief is more than necessary. Combining her knowledge of the sprinkler related interference and Conan's lie she guessed he was there to interfere with the assassination and was grateful that he helped stop her from having to help the Organization assassinate Domon.

Name origin
According to Shuichi Akai, her alias Rena Mizunashi is actually a mnemonic for 007, the service number of fictional secret agent James Bond. "Mizunashi", meaning "no water", is a subtle reference to zero. "Rena" is a contraction of the numbers zero (rei) and seven (nana). Hondou from Hidemi Hondou comes from Bondo (ボンド), the Japanese pronounciation of (James) Bond.

Trivia
*Kir is a cocktail made of crème de cassis and white wine. It breaks the Black Organization codename pattern for women because it is a wine-based cocktail rather than a straight variety of wine.
*Kir is seen driving two different types of cars. The first is a silver Citroen Hathback during episode 425, and also a dark coloured NC Mazda MX-5 with the power-retractable hardtop during episode 504.
Kogoro Mouri is one of the main characters of the manga and anime. He is a private detective and the father of Ran Mouri.

Background
Kogoro is a private investigator, but he prefers to laze around all day. Kogoro attended Teitan High School, the same high school as Ran Mouri and Shinichi Kudo, along with Eri Kisaki, Yukiko Fujimine, and the actress Ruri Ujo. He then graduated from Beika University, where he was the ace of the Judo team, though he was highly vulnerable to stage fright.

Some time after graduating, Kogoro became a police officer. He worked in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Division One under Inspector Megure, but he did poorly at his job. He also worked for some time under Inspector Yuminaga in the arson division as well. While Movie 2 strongly suggests that Kogoro left the police force because of the incident where he shot at Eri Kisaki who was held as a hostage, his reasons for leaving the force have not been confirmed in the manga. Kogoro is an excellent marksman.

Kogoro's daughter, Ran Mouri, is also the daughter of Eri Kisaki, who is now living separately after an argument ten years prior. Despite constantly feigning disinterest in her, Kogoro still has feelings for his wife—he has even asked her to move back in with him, but she pretends not to hear him because she is not "ready" yet, though she still has feelings for him as well. These are expressed mainly through jealousy when Kogoro's attention is caught by other attractive women in the vicinity.

After Shinichi had been shrunk by an accidental effect of a mysterious poison and was forced to adopt the identity of Conan Edogawa, Hiroshi Agasa concluded that Shinichi couldn't openly continue any investigation without attracting undue attention by the Black Organization. To maintain his cover, he suggested Shinichi to move in with Kogoro and use him as a front. When Kogoro's conclusions during one of their first investigations became so dilettantish that the cause became hopeless, Conan used his soccer skills to kick an ashtray to knock him out. Kogoro unconsciously (and conveniently) adopted a reclining pose, and Conan used his Voice Changer, imitating Kogoro's voice, to present his conclusions and the identity of the true murderer; this earned Kogoro the title "Sleeping Kogoro" and the reputation as a master detective. (Later, Conan would employ his Stun-Gun Wristwatch to knock out Kogoro instead.) In the few instances where Kogoro remains awake for some reason, Conan still does the main detective work and uses Kogoro as his official mouth-piece by drawing the latter's attentions to important clues he has uncovered.
clearleft
Personality
Kogoro can easily become infatuated with beautiful women. His dream woman is pop idol Yoko Okino, and he never misses (or tries not to miss) her television shows. Because of his behavior around attractive women, he often embarrasses his daughter Ran Mouri, and while it is not the reason why his wife left him, it is the reason why she hasn't come back.

While he is never outright called an alcoholic, Kogoro has a tendency to get intoxicated at social events, and Shinichi/Conan makes sarcastic remarks about him spending money on alcohol. In the anime, his office is littered with empty beer cans, and he keeps a well-stocked liquor shelf. Kogoro is also a heavy smoker, and is usually seen with a cigarette in his mouth. His hobbies include mahjong and gambling on horse racing and keirin.

In the Japanese version, due to his name Kogoro Mouri he is often mistaken for the famous astronaut Mamoru Mohri when he introduces himself, because they both are in the news frequently, of Japanese decent, and have the same last name. In the English version when Kogoro introduces himself he is often mistaken for "oh, that famous astronaut," as well. In the English version it is possible he is also confused with Patrick Moore.

In the US version, Kogoro Mouri says that he is forty-three, in opposed to being thirty-seven in the Japanese version. It is unknown if Eri's age remains the same since they had attended school together, and if not, if it will affect the Princess Pageant storyline that occurred twenty years ago, making her in her twenties when she participated instead of a teenager.

Kogoro suffers from a mild acrophobia (fear of heights) and is quite uncomfortable in high settings, such as skyscrapers, when he has the chance to see how high up he is. It has also been made clear that Kogoro is an expert with a handgun, being able to hit targets at great distance with an impressive level of accuracy. He is also known for his Judo throw, which he often uses to incapacitate escaping suspects. As for leisure activities, unless he drinks to excess or goes hunting for any recordings of his favorite idol star, Yoko Okino, he enjoys betting on horse races, mahjong and baseball (he even plays in his neighborhood's team).

Detective Skills
Throughout most of the series, Kogoro is depicted as a pretty incompetent detective, often missing obvious clues and jumping to the wrong conclusions, though several of these conclusions were shared by other people on the scene. However, Kogoro does follow the proper police procedures, asks questions, and (with a little help from Conan) follows leads quite well. Despite his ineptness, he had been a prominent police officer under Inspector Juzo Megure ten years prior to the start of the series He is shown to have left the police force after events addressed in the second movie, The Fourteenth Target.

Thanks to Conan's undercover help in solving numerous cases, Kogoro's reputation as a detective grows quickly. He hardly remembers the solutions of any cases because Conan knocks him out with tranquillizer darts so that he can announce the solution to the case while hidden, using a device that allows him to imitate Kogoro's voice as a proxy. However, Kogoro never seems to wonder about this fact and often boasts about his merits. Because of this, he has become nicknamed the Sleeping Kogoro. Jugo Yokomizo often mistakenly calls him Smoking Kogoro because of his heavy smoking habits. Because of his (or rather, Conan's) tendency to coincidentally come across a crime scene, Inspector Megure is often referred to Kogoro as a shinigami (death god).

In later stories, there are times when Kogoro is actually able to solve crime cases without (or little) help from Conan, especially when people he knows or cares about are involved; it appears that, while he can connect the dots just fine, he can't actually find them as quickly as Conan does. The first of these events takes place during a trip to a hot spring, where one of his old college friends is murdered. Kogoro is actually so disturbed and determined to find the killer on his own that Conan cannot bring himself to drug him, limiting himself to surreptitiously drawing attention to the necessary clues.

Despite his frequent moronic analyses, Kogoro is actually pretty smart when he applies himself. He is even able to completely solve a crime on his own in the ninth movie, Strategy Above the Depths, due to the fact that the culprit Minako resembles Eri, and Conan applauds him mentally for his success. (For a more detailed list of the cases he has - more or less - solved on his own, see List of cases solved by Kogoro Mouri).
The name "Kogoro Mouri" came from two mystery-related sources. "Kogoro" came from "Kogoro Akechi", the detective created by Edogawa Rampo, while Mouri came from Maurice Leblanc. Coincidentally, his drama actor, Takanori Jinnai, has played Kogoro Akechi in many TV movies.

The kanji for "Mouri" (毛利) comes from daimyo Mouri Motonari.
Ran Mouri, also known as Rachel Moore in the Funimation dub, is the 2nd protagonist in the manga and anime series, Detective Conan.

Background
Ran is a childhood friend of Shinichi Kudo. She is the daughter of Kogoro Mouri, a private detective, and Eri Kisaki, a lawyer. Her parents separated when she was seven, and one of her biggest goals is to get them back together. Her best friend next to Shinichi is her classmate Sonoko, who constantly teases her about her relationship with Shinichi.

One year before the series' start, Ran and Shinichi had gone to the United States to visit Shinichi's parents in New York. They met his mother and her actress friend, Sharon Vineyard (also known as Vermouth, a member of the Black Organization). Later that evening, Vermouth disguised as a serial killer to do BO work, and was saved by Ran and Shinichi who encountered her on their way back from a show turned murder case. Vermouth had slipped and would have fallen to her death, but Ran caught her arm and Shinichi helped her pull her to safety. Due to this, Sharon gave Ran the nickname "Angel", and Shinichi the nickname "Cool Guy". Vermouth later showed hesitance to kill Ran and later Conan as well, but whether or not it was because of any emotional attachment is unclear.

After Shinichi's disappearance, Ran met Conan Edogawa, who was introduced by Professor Agasa as a "distant relative" and asked Ran if she wouldn't mind taking care of him at her house. She and her father practically adopted him; Ran immediately came to think of him as a surrogate little brother. Little did (and still does) Ran know that "Conan" is actually Shinichi.

Personality
Ran's greatest personality trait is that she genuinely cares for those she loves. She also constantly tries to reunite her father and mother again - though with little success, thanks to the mutual stubbornness of both parents.

Ran is the captain of the karate team of Teitan High School and therefore is very powerful as demonstrated when she won her Regional Championship. She can be very brave and resourceful when she wants to be, and rescues Conan from trouble with her karate skills on occasion. However, she has an irrational fear of the supernatural and is thus - unlike her friend Sonoko - absolutely no fan of anything related to the horror genre. Men also tend to pay her a lot of undue romantic attention, a fact that makes Sonoko somewhat jealous (and of which Ran herself is completely unaware).

Ran can play the piano well. In addition, she appreciates fine art, is very good at cooking and household chores (unlike her mother), and quite capable of looking after both Conan and her father. Besides that, she is also very lucky in gambling.

Ran is noted by both Shinichi and Akai Shuuichi to cry a lot. This claim has been attributed to the manga file called "Ran's Tears".

Abilities
Ran is a master in karate and has won many karate tournaments; she holds the title of Regional Champion for her age group. In fact, she is very strong to the extent that she can break a stone with ease. In the ninth movie, Strategy Above the Depths, Conan states that Ran has an unusual amount of stamina.
Though sometimes, for example in the second movie, Ran may not be able to use her karate, whether it's because she is too scared or just because she is just too weakened. In the fourth movie (Captured in Her Eyes), Ran also was unable to use karate due to suffering of amnesia at the time, but as soon as she recovered her memories she also got the use of her abilities back and incapacitated the culprit who was about to kill her and Conan. She also have an astonishing amount of luck, having never lost card games and lotteries.

Doubts about Conan's identity
In time, Ran comes to suspect that Conan is actually Shinichi despite what her common sense would say, but he always manages to trick her and "prove" her wrong. There are however occasions where she appears to be so sure that Shinichi and Conan are one and the same, such incidents include once when Ran finds Conan asleep on the sofa, she takes off his glasses while he's asleep and notices the huge reseamblance he has to Shinichi as a child, later she confronts him and feels so certain that Conan is Shinichi as it explained his splitting reseamblance to Shinichi when he was younger, possessing Shinichi's great powers of deduction, and even Shinichi's lack of any musical knowledge. However Shinichi's mother unexpectatly shows up and covers for him by explaining that Conan's resembalance to Shinichi when he was younger, because that they're distant relatives and Conan possesing Shinichi's deductive ability is a result of Shinichi teaching Conan.
At another time she is also certain her reasoning was correct, as Conan had been critically injured and required a blood donation, Ran donated her blood but somehow knew his blood type without being told revealing that she knew that Conan was actually Shinichi. So with the help of Ai Haibara he manages to fool Ran by allowing Shinichi to appear before her while Conan was present (who was really Ai Haibara in disguise).

Ran's Suspicion
Conan once forgets his cell phone on the couch and Ran, in the room at the time, remembers to send an email to Shinichi to let him know that she's going with her father on a case and that his presence would be most welcome as Kogoro could use the help. Right after sending the message, Conan's phone starts vibrating. Ran, quite perplexed by the perfect timing, checks his phone only to discover a new email (she hasn't seen the content yet). At that moment, Conan enters the room, and seeing his phone in Ran's hands, rushes towards it while shouting and grabs it back asking: "Did you look?". He quickly understands that Ran's email may have risen doubts about his identity.
The first time Ran suspected Conan was episode 7. After seeing the similarity between Conan and Shinichi's occupation deduction just simply by touching someone's hand, she started being very suspicious and kept an eye on Conan the whole case. However, Professor Agasa called Ran with the voice changing bowtie at the end and Conan was free of suspicion for a while.

Following this event, Ran first believes that Shinichi often contacts Conan without her knowing, which would in some way explain how he always seems to help out on cases. Later on, after seeing Conan give an important clue to the investigation team without making use of his cell phone (to eventually contact Shinichi like she was suspecting), she starts to believe that Conan is actually Shinichi thinking that past occurrences of both being present at the same time was just a trick he used to fool her.

At the end of the day, Ran is able to retrieve Conan's phone. Late at night, after waiting for everybody to go to bed, she tries to get past the phone's PIN code to check whether her email is there or not. This, to her, would be undeniable proof that Conan is indeed Shinichi. After finally guessing the number equivalent of "Sherlock" to be the PIN code, she's surprised not to see her email there. She instantly tries a few times to resend another email but nothing comes up on Conan's phone. That's when Shinichi calls her complaining about the numerous emails she's been sending. Conan, then knocks at the door and claims back his phone saying that he didn't want people looking inside because of messages he received from a girl he likes. It is later showed that Conan actually exchanged his phone with Agasa's (which are both of the same model) and used his phone upstairs to call Ran, while she was experimenting with the Professor's phone, to create this whole alibi. Shinichi then tells Ran that she now knows his phone number. And Ran, pleased with the situation, clears her mind out of all suspicions she had about Conan's identity - at least, consciously.

During "The Whereabouts of the Embarrassing Charm" case we can see that Ran's suspicions are arising again. This is thanks to Heiji, openly revealed the fingerprint matching during the "Murder, Shinichi Kudo" case. Kazuha gave a likely, but not to Conan or Heiji, explanation on how Shinichi's fingerprints got onto the handcuff's piece of chain. However, for some reason Ran talked directly to Conan, which he pointed out that she is talking to the wrong person. Unconsciously she thinks she is talking to Shinichi.
Relationship analysis
Family & Friends
Shinichi Kudo
Shinichi Kudo and Ran Mouri
Shinichi Kudo and Ran Mouri have been friends ever since childhood. When the two first met, they were at kindergarten age, and later they were playmates. Eri Kisaki, Ran's mom, and Yukiko Kudo, Shinichi's mom, would often set playdates for the two to play together. Shinichi and Ran have stayed close all the way through the present age, which has led to both of them feeling romantic feelings for each other. Ran recalls that she truly felt her feelings for Shinichi were true love when he rescued her from the serial killer in New York. When Shinichi is turned into Conan, thanks to the Black Organization, Ran becomes especially worried for Shinichi, especially about where he is, and often hopes that he isn't in danger.

Shinichi, as Conan, often calls Ran, and using his bowtie, talks to Ran in his normal teenager voice, mostly to calm her when she is feeling fear about if he is hurt, or when he wants to make her feel better because she feels lonely without him. As Conan, Shinichi has grown closer to Ran. Ran is shown throughout to be dedicated to Shinichi, and will always love him no matter where he is. Shinichi himself also has feelings for Ran, and loves her as well. He is very protective of her when there are other guys with her, and he keeps her away from any other man. He has even confessed his feelings for her, though he was Conan when this occurred.

Ran and Shinichi have shared many precious romantic moments, such as when Shinichi bought Ran a pair of red gloves for Christmas, or when he pretended that as Shinichi, he ate her Valentine's Day chocolate that she had made for him, while she was asleep. Shinichi is deeply saddened knowing that Ran is waiting for him to return, and that he himself cannot do anything about it. Although various characters, including Heiji Hattori, have told him to just admit everything to her, for the sake of her heart, he realizes he cannot tell her, because he does not want to put her in danger from the Black Organization, as he considers her life more important than his. People also look at them as a couple by how they act and how they talk about each other. When asked to Ran though, she does say that Shinichi is her boyfriend (this causes him/conan to blush slightly but never really says anything about it), though Shinichi finally confessed to her in London. After that, Sonoko teased her because she did not say anything in return. Sonoko said that maybe Shinichi will transfer to another girl because Ran did not reply. Conan/Shinichi heard their conversation and said in his mind, "Like I'd ever do that." He finally confesses somehow to Ran during the Holmes Revelation arc.

Shinichi and Ran appear to share a close empathic link due to their strong feelings for each other, making each of them almost impossibly aware of when the other is in extreme danger, and often able to sense the other's worried thoughts.

Kogoro Mouri and Eri Kisaki
Mouri Family
Ran remains close to both Kogoro and Eri even though they have been separated for ten years. Her constant hope is that they finally get together again, and on occasion she even plays (re-)matchmaker by arranging not-so-accidental meetings between them, though a reunion, while possible, is so far constantly hampered by mutual stubbornness and the occasional criminal incident taking place in the immediate vicinity.

The Detective Boys
Ai Haibara
There are instances where Haibara will caution Conan from actions that involve Ran, though it's assumed this is due merely to the fact that she wants to keep her identity hidden. At one point, she was very cold and distant towards Ran, just like she was to most other people. Ran believed that it was because that Haibara had hated her. However, later that day, Haibara finally properly introduced herself to Ran, and they slowly became friends.

Haibara considers Ran a spitting image her older sister, Akemi Miyano, so she takes special interest in protecting her. These feelings began after Ran jumped through a slew of bullets from Calvados (and later Vermouth), to save Haibara and hold her down to the ground to shield her from the gunfire. Haibara immediately thinks of her own sister, and begins to treat and look at Ran as a spitting image of her. When at a later point she had learned that Korn, Chianti, and the rest of the Black Organization were lurking about, Haibara begs for Ran to stay at Agasa's house, immediately thinking of her own sister's death, and wanting to keep Ran safe.

The Black Organization
Vermouth
Ran was a fan of the actress Sharon Vineyard and is currently unaware about Sharon's double-life as Chris Vineyard and Vermouth. Vermouth has a great deal of respect for Ran and protects her from the Organization's activities because Ran unknowingly saved a disguised Vermouth from falling to her death during the Golden Apple case. Vermouth's codename for Ran is "Angel".

Others
Eisuke Hondou
In The Blind Spot in the Karaoke Box, Eisuke has shown some interest in Ran. He had admitted to Conan that he loved Ran and claimed that he would take Ran to America and live happily ever after there, and thinks if he could ask for Shinichi's permission. But Conan, without hesitating, said no in a very serious expression, which the look on Conan's face revealed his true identity to Eisuke.
Scar Akai is a mysterious person of unknown allegiance who appeared some time after Kir apparently killed Shuichi Akai. It isn't clear if he is in fact the real Akai or someone else, possibly Bourbon, disguising as him. Scar Akai appears silently in front of the FBI and vanishes just as quickly.
Teito Bank Heist (Manga: 677-679, Anime: 563-564)
In his debut appearance, Jodie Starling encountered a man on the street in the Beika district who looks exactly like Shuichi Akai, but with a huge burn scar on the side of his face. She chased after him while calling out to him, but he turned down an alley without responding. James Black, not aware of the mysterious man's appearance, stopped Jodie from following after scar Akai. Jodie assumes she saw a lookalike and, still upset, visits Teito bank. The bank is then hijacked by robbers who round up everyone. Jodie discovers that scar Akai is sitting next to her. She tries to talk to him, saying his name, but he doesn't acknowledge that he even heard her. She assumes he has amnesia and cannot speak. The robbers then order everyone's eyes and hands to be taped up.

As the bank heist progresses, Jodie is knocked out and Conan and the Detective Boys design and execute a ploy to trick the bank robbers and rescue the hostages they plan on blowing up. In the confusion, Conan is grabbed and about to be killed by one of the vengeful robbers. Scar Akai rescues Conan by shooting the robber in the shoulder. Scar Akai vanishes after the case, Conan never being aware of his presence, although it is later discovered that scar Akai caught on tape by reporters. Jodie, reluctant to believe that this man was Shuichi, doesn't tell James Black or Camel about the meeting.
Beika Department Store bomb threat case (Manga: 700-704, Anime: 578-581)
Conan learns about the existence of Scar Akai from the Detective Boys who had recognized him from the Teito Bank heist. Conan is shocked by the news. In the meanwhile, Jodie has tracked down the maker of the hat Scar Akai has worn to the Beika Department Store and she questions the sales clerks if someone matching scar Akai's description had bought a hat recently. While Andre Camel is in the bathroom, he sees Scar Akai pass behind him. Camel rushes from the bathroom, but Scar Akai is nowhere to be seen.

Scar Akai, along with Subaru Okiya and Conan, is then trapped on one of the department store floors by a bomber demanding to find the sender of thirteen red shirts. Meanwhile the Black Organization has heard that someone who looks like Akai appeared at the department store. Gin and Vodka park outside the department store with the snipers Chianti and Korn to wait for scar Akai. Gin holds a gun to Kir's head explaining that if Akai is alive, he will kill her.

Back on the bombed floor, Subaru Okiya sees Scar Akai in the crowd and ducks away before scar Akai could spot him. Jodie finds out scar Akai is trapped on the floor from someone's video phone. Conan tranquilizes Kogoro Mouri to begin his deduction show just as Kogoro receives a text message containing a mostly complete solution to the case. Wanting to know who else deduced the solution, Conan and Ran trace the text to a man who reveals scar Akai had "found his phone" and must have sent it. Conan is astonished and anxiously attempts to catch up to scar Akai, but Conan is stopped by Jodie and Camel who tell him they also saw scar Akai. Andre reveals the Black Organization are waiting outside with a sniper. Jodie rushes after scar Akai to stop him from being killed, but is prevented from reaching him by Okiya who knocks her over.

Scar Akai leaves the store and walks into Chianti's scope. She informs Gin who also sees Scar Akai. Before Gin can order Chianti to shoot, Vermouth appears and speaks with Gin about a plan that she received the boss's authorization for. Scar Akai spots Chianti and smirks at her. She loses her aim and Scar Akai disappears into the rushing crowd which Conan had stirred up. Gin lowers his gun from Kir's head and decides to drop the assassination, commenting how Bourbon always likes to do what he pleases.

Identity
It is unclear at this point if scar Akai is the real Akai Shuuichi or an imposter. So far, the commentary in the manga sidebars assumes scar Akai is the real Akai Shuuichi; however, the commentary has been purposefully misleading in past arcs. FBI agent Jodie Starling thinks he is the real Akai who managed to escape from death somehow, but has amnesia and cannot speak. Agent Camel is confused and wonders if scar Akai is a trap from the Org. Although Conan has yet to come into direct contact with scar Akai, Conan seemed thunderstruck after hearing about his existence and worriedly chased after him.

Known facts about scar Akai
*Scar Akai seems to be right handed given how he shot the handgun. Shuichi Akai is known to be a left-handed.
*Scar Akai somehow knows Kogoro Mouri's cell phone number.
*So far, both of Scar Akai's appearances have been in Beika city very close to one another. Teito Bank and the Beika department store are almost adjacent.
*Scar Akai is good at deduction. His red shirts case solution wasn't as complete as Okiya's and Conan's deductions, but he may not have had access to the internet and therefore info on the snowy mountains case with his "borrowed" phone.
*He is cautious enough to use a handkerchief to avoid leaving fingerprints while handing back the random man's cell phone which Scar Akai used to text Kogoro.
*Scar Akai is most likely male.
When Scar Akai handed back a cell phone to its owner, he spoke to that man. If he can't imitate voice in the first place, he must use his real voice which would alert the owner if he has a woman voice but an appearance of man. However, this alone can't rule out the possiblity of (s)he being female because there is a situation that Ran and Sonoko mistook Sera's gender from her appearance even they spoke with her for several minutes.

Shuichi Akai
Scar Akai looks like Shuichi Akai. He seems to recognize the FBI and the Black Organization agents. He also rescued Conan from the bank robber.

Bourbon
Scar Akai is Bourbon Theory
Scar Akai could be Bourbon who, with Vermouth's help, has disguised as Akai and is appearing before the FBI agents in order to gauge whether the real Akai is alive or not based on their reactions. Bourbon, who hates Akai and refuses to believe that anyone else could kill him, believes Akai's death was faked with help of Kir and the FBI.

Arguments for scar Akai being Bourbon note his inconsistent behavior; so far, scar Akai has only been appeared in front of FBI agents rather than around Tokyo generally. Scar Akai seems to recognize the FBI agents which suggests he doesn't have amnesia, but he puts Kir in danger by wandering around in the open. If he recognized the FBI enough to leave Jodie a message, it is strange that he would not speak to the FBI agents since Scar Akai is capable of speaking. Also, Scar Akai is right handed based on how he fired a handgun, not left handed like Akai.

The FBI agents scar Akai has appeared in front of so far, Jodie and Camel, were known to be close to Akai and thus would be considered likely compatriots if Akai needed help faking his death. Given the circumstances of Akai's death, Bourbon must also suspect Kir is a spy and was in on the plan. In light of this, it makes sense that scar Akai would know Kogoro's cellphone number; Kogoro texted Kir after the Ding Dong Dash case, and Bourbon got Kogoro's number from Kir's cellphone which was left in Gin's Porsche when the FBI mistakenly intercepted her.

Gin lowering his gun from Kir's head shows that he doesn't think Scar Akai is the real Akai. Since Gin called Kir in the "Thirteen Red Shirts" case, he has held a gun to her head the entire time. After Gin observes scar Akai, he gives the order for Chianti to leave, and he removes the gun from Kir's head. He wouldn't have done so if he thought she was a traitor.

Name Origin
"Scar Akai" is a popular fan created nickname used to distinguish this character from Shuichi Akai in discussion.

Trivia
*In the the anime version of the Teito bank heist case scar Akai's scar and the skin where the duct tape which had covered his eyes are visible. In the manga, it is much more ambiguous; the gun and the shadow of the hat scar Akai is wearing hide the scar and the part of his face where the tape had been removed from his eyes.
Conan, Ran, and Sonoko are visiting a sick friend in the hospital. There they meet Eisuke who tells them he is searching for his long lost sister who looks identical to Rena Mizunashi. Eisuke explains that his sister intended to become a nurse so he is searching the local hospitals for her. Conan, however, suspects Eisuke knows Rena has been hospitalized due to her accident. The three decide to visit Kōshi Anno, a big fan of Rena, to confirm whether Rena is actually Eisuke's sister. Unable to contact Kōshi, they visit his mother and learn Kōshi recently called asking for money in order to pay off a rival company in a business meeting later that day. Listening to her story, Conan reveals the inconsistencies with Kōshi's story and reveals that a man is impersonating Kōshi in order to scam Kōshi's mother for money. As evidence, Conan explains that the fraud claimed to have canceled his planned vacation due to a cold but had business plans on the same day as his vacation; a person who had to suddenly cancel his vacation due to an illness would not have business plans on the same day. The fraud is later arrested outside of Kōshi's apartment. Later that day, Kōshi returns home and is confronted by Conan who asks him whether Eisuke's picture of his sister is actually Rena.
Kōshi confirms that the picture is indeed Rena and shows them a news recording depicting Rena with the same hairstyle as Eisuke's sister's in the photograph. In the video, they learn that Rena's blood type is AB. Eisuke denies that Rena is his sister since his sister's blood was once used for his blood transfusion; Eisuke has blood type O, meaning he can only receive Type O blood. Conan suspects there is a hidden component to Eisuke's story and believes Eisuke is searching for Rena with an ulterior motive. The next day, Eisuke invites Ran and Sonoko to accompany him to the mansion he used to live in to collect his mother's belongings which were recently found. Kogoro, coincidentally, was also hired to investigate a murder at the mansion that occurred a year ago. Once there, Eisuke finds his birth certificate, confirming that he has blood type O. Meanwhile, Kogoro is with the owner of the mansion, Kakuzō Okudaira, discussing the murder of his son, Tango Okudaira. Kakuzō tells Kogoro he suspects the murderer is one of three people in the mansion.
Kakuzō shows Kogoro a photograph of Tango's body in a pool and points to a white glove Tango is wearing. He reveals that the glove was the same glove their previous butler wore before a car accident killed him, and that Tango's murder occurred on the anniversary of the butler's death. Kakuzō tells Kogoro that, three days after Tango's death, he received a white glove and now presumes the murderer plans to kill him next. After the discussion, Kogoro and Conan investigate the house searching for clues. When a blackout occurs and the sound of a vase is heard from Kakuzō's room, they arrive to find him hanged. Conan investigates and realizes three suspicious points: glue was used to keep the knot of the rope together, the broken vase with sweat near the top, and a book titled "Killer of Hades" (in kanji) with blood on it. The police declare that if the book is a dying message, the murderer must be one of the three suspects.
Conan's investigation leads him to realize how Kakuzō and Tango's murder was accomplished. Conan tranquilizes Kogoro and impersonates him with the voice changing bow tie to reveal that Kikuyo Tabata, the maid, is the murderer. He reveals Kikuyo served Kakuzō coffee laced with sleeping pills, thus causing Kakuzō to fall asleep. She then set up the scene by placing Kakuzō on top of a trolley and placing a glued noose around his neck. After setting up a line of books leading from the door to the trolley Kikuyo placed a vase in Kakuzō's hand, warning him that if the vase dropped and broke, it would cause people to investigate the noise. When that happened, they would open the door to Kakuzō's room and subsequently move the line of books which would cause the trolley to roll out from beneath him and result in his death. Conan explains that Tango was murdered in a similar fashion: he was tied up and thrown in a pool and was forced to stand on the tip of his toes to breath. Eventually Tango's fatigue caused him to drown. By delaying the time of death in both cases, Kikuyo was able to establish an alibi. As for the dying message, Conan reveals that blood covered the kanji for the English word "Hades" which means "Meido" in Japanese and is a reference to the English word maid. As evidence, Conan tells the police Kikuyo should have a handkerchief with coffee stains tainted with sleeping pills. Kikuyo confesses to the murder revealing that Tango, with the help of his father, murdered her husband, the previous butler.
Conan learns from Ran that she had been unable to contact Eisuke since the winter break. She tells him Eisuke last told her that he had found someone from his father's company at Haido Central Hospital, the same hospital in which Rena is currently hospitalized. Conan contacts Jodie Starling to inform her Eisuke may be searching for Rena and learns from her that Eisuke's father, Ethan Hondō, was a spy for the CIA who were investigating the Black Organization. She reveals that Rena and the Black Organization murdered him four years ago. Conan phones Ran asking her how Eisuke recognized the colleague. She replies that Eisuke recognized the person through the phones keypad tone which played the song "Nanatsu no Ko", the phone number of the Black Organization's leader. Conan realizes that a Black Organization member is in Haido Central Hospital. Fearing that the criminal syndicate may be close to finding Rena, Conan and the FBI investigate the hospital. After asking a nurse about a suspicious person, the FBI narrows the suspects list to hospitalized patients between December 18 and December 21 and begin their search for the Black Organization member.
The nurse tells Conan that she just remembered Eisuke had surgery for leukemia when he was young, raising the possibility Rena may in fact be his sister. Meanwhile, the FBI manages to narrow the list of suspects down to three patients: An old man with a broken leg, a man with a neck sprain, and a man with dorsalgia. Conan volunteers to secretly investigate them. After recording the three patients on a secret camera, Conan reports back to the FBI. In his meeting with the man with dorsalgia, Conan proved the man was not faking his symptom as he had difficulty bending down to pick up an object and was frantically fighting against a sneeze to prevent sending a shock wave to his back. The other two patients are revealed to be faking their symptoms. Conan reveals that he noticed the old man had a scar and swelling near his heart suggesting he has an artificial pacemaker. Since the pacemaker's function would be interrupted by cell phone waves, it rules the old man out leaving Rikumichi Kusuda, the man faking the neck sprain, as their culprit.
Kusuda reveals that under his cervical collar are explosives which he will detonate if they attempt to arrest him. He flees from the hospital in a car but is pursued by Conan and Akai. Kusudu kills himself with his own gun before being caught. While the FBI attempt to figure out how to keep the Black Organization away from Rena, Akai decides they must keep the hospital employees uninvolved and that he shall think of plan to ambush them. Elsewhere, the Black Organization cause food poisoning throughout restaurants in the city, release poisonous gas in public areas, and start a fire in a local theatre. These incidents cause a large amount of people needing medical attention to flow into the hospital. While Conan and Akai attempt to deduce the Black Organization plans, they notice a ticking sound from Jame's flower pot and realize there is a bomb in it. Agent Andre Camel and Jodie are given the task to detonate the bomb in an isolated location. They realize it was part of the Black Organization's plan as the explosives the agents were collecting contained transmitters; Gin, who watches the transmitters gather in a single location, tells his colleagues of Rena's location in the hospital. The FBI initiate their plan to transport Rena to another location. Camel is given the task of transporting Rena while the other FBI agents become decoys in the other two vans. Jodie suspects Camel is part of the organization and attempts to pursue Camel to give her the task of driving the van with Rena. Camel incapacitates her and hides her body. The three vans drive off with Chianti, Korn, and Vodka stalking them. Using thermal vision devices, they are able to see through the vans and upload the images to Gin who attempts to deduce which truck contains Rena. Vermouth follows Akai who is secretly tailing the second van, causing them to believe the truck Korn is stalking contains Rena. Rena wakes up and knocks Camel unconscious, causing the car to crash. Once freed, she reunites with the other members of the Black Organization. Chianti prepares to kill Camel, but the vehicle explodes, attracting the attention of the public and forcing the Black Organization members to flee. Camel, having survived the blast, reports to Akai and tells him the mission was a success. Akai reveals to the FBI he purposely let the Black Organization capture Rena again so they may use her to gain information from the inside. He then explains the conversation he and Conan had with Rena the night before. After Eisuke is stopped by Rena, Conan, who was hiding behind the curtains, reveals that Rena is indeed Eisuke's sister. He explains that due to Eisuke's leukemia and radiation treatment, they transferred Rena's bone marrow to Eisuke and essentially making his blood type AB. Conan reveals that he knows Rena is part of the CIA and was given the task of investigating the Black Organization from the inside. She reveals that on the day she and her father were supposed to reveal the Black Organization's identity to the public, she had a transmitter planted on her which resulted in them being caught. To protect his daughter, Ethan created a scenario in which Rena killed him after realizing his identity as a CIA agent. After having Rena shoot him, the Black Organization was fooled and Rena continued her duty to spy on the Organization. After the conversation, Akai tells Rena he plans to return her to the Black Organization.
Back in the present time, Rena asks Gin to spare the hospital and its employees, causing Gin to suspect her of being disloyal to the organization. Elsewhere, Professor Agasa takes the Detective Boys to a hotel restaurant. They run into Officer Takagi who tells them the president of a foreign talent agency was murdered only a few minutes ago. Takagi tells them that the suspect is an unknown foreigner who had an appointment with the president. Conan tells him that the suspect must be in the hotel still since the president's office is on the top floor and—with so little time—the suspect would not have had enough time to rid himself of the smell of gunpowder and escape the building. The police gather up three foreign suspects, one of which includes FBI Agent Camel. Camel is the prime suspect because of his physical features and refusal to answer the questions relating to his profession since the FBI's investigation in Japan must remain a secret. Conan calls Jodie to come and help prove Camel's innocence.
Jodie arrives and tells the police that Camel is an FBI agent and that they are a couple vacationing in Japan. The police continue the investigation and notice that a memo with the words "Bring my Tux" was ripped out by an unknown culprit. Jodie asks Camel why he was in Japan two years ago. He replies that he was on a mission with Akai to investigate the Black Organization. He tells her that in the past, he made a mistake and exposed Akai's identity as an FBI agent to the syndicate and impeded Akai's mission as a spy. This indirectly resulted in the Organization murdering Akai's love, Akemi Miyano. Elsewhere, Gin orders Rena to set up a meeting with Akai or be branded as a traitor and subsequently killed. He tells her that he will plant a bug on her during the meeting and that it is her duty to kill Akai. Akai receives a call from Rena and agrees to meet with her, knowing that it is an ambush set up to take his life.
He then tells them to Shiran Puri (知らん振り?, lit. Feign Ignorance) and all but Tobey Keynes sit down in their chairs. Jodie reveals that foreigners would recognize "Shiran Puri" as "Sit Down Please" and since Keynes did not sit down, reveals he is actually Japanese. Jodie then explains that after Keynes murdered the president, he noticed the memo and took it believing it was the President's dying message indicating Keynes to be the murderer. As evidence, they find the missing memo inside Keynes' pocket. Keynes confesses to the murder and explains that his American girlfriend was tricked into signing a contract by the president. His girlfriend did not understand the contract since she was not fluent in Japanese; the contract forced his girlfriend to work long hours which in the end resulted in her death. As part of the contract, his girlfriend's younger brother would be held responsible if she is unable to continue working. Keynes wanted to save his girlfriend's brother and thus murdered the president of the company.
Rena shoots Akai in the head and places his body in his car with an timed explosive and leaves the scene. Once the bomb detonates, it catches the attention of the authorities and later the media who reports that a body burned beyond recognition was found. The FBI realize that the unidentified body belongs to Akai. Jodie heads to the police station to confirm Akai's death. She gives them Conan's cellphone which contains Akai's fingerprint so they could compare it to the body. The police confirm that a fingerprint found on the phone matched the body and Conan's cellphone is confiscated as evidence. Jodie gives Conan a phone of the same model as a replacement without informing him. Conan, having realized the change in the serial number, realizes Akai had died.
Grateful Invitation
Yamato and Euhara takes Kogoro, Ran, and Conan to a mansion. Euhara reveals that the mansion was owned by a rich man in the past; The man one day decided to search for five talented people and gave the five a room in the mansion until they have reached their dreams. Euhara reveals that six people, Shūsaku Akashi, Aoi Kobashi, Naoki Midorikawa, Shōji Yamabuki, Takuto Momose, and Shirō Naiko, referred to each others as colors that sound alike to their names. They were called Aka (赤?, Red), Ao (青?, Blue), Midori (緑?, Green), Yamabuki (山吹?, Golden Yellow), Momoiro (桃色?, Pink), and Shiro (白?, White) respectively. Yamato reveals that the doors in the mansion swung outward and that someone used a pile of boxes filled with books to trap Akashi inside a room. They examine the room to find one wall of the room painted red and in the center of the room a white and black chair placed back to back and nailed into the ground with the white chair facing the red wall. Yamato's rival, Takaaki Morofushi whose name can be read in Chinese as Koumei, arrives and reveals he was the first to find the body as he was delivering flowers to the late Aoi who died from a heart attack in the storage room of the house. Conan reveals that the culprit knew the door would open outwards in the house and the location of the boxes of books which means the culprit is one of the three people who use to live in the mansion.

Item in Hand
Yamato tells Koumei to take Ran and Conan with him to investigate the four suspects. They learn that Akashi and Aoi were avid chess fan and that Aoi was adored by all her friends. After investigating the four, they believe Naiko is involved in the murder in some way and travel to his apartment to arrest him. Upon arrival, they find that Naiko has been strangled and that the culprit had spray painted the wall in front of Naiko red. Koumei then heads off to investigate the case on his own.

The Late Koumei
Koumei investigates the crime scene at the mansion and realizes who the culprit is. Before he could text his answer to Yamato, he is knocked unconscious by the culprit. The building is set ablaze and Koumei is saved by Uehara. At the hospital, Conan and Yamato deduced from Koumei's incomplete text "The late Koumei" was a saying which was alluded from the Battle of Wuzhang Plains; the moral of the story is that one can have great influence even after death. They believe that the culprit murdered Akashi to avenge Aoi's death. Conan and Yamato then realize what Akashi's dying message means.

Empty Fort Strategy
Koumei regains consciousness, together they conclude that they lack the evidence to capture the culprit and thus decide to empty the Empty Fort Strategy to lure the culprit out. Using the strategy, they created the sense that no officers are guarding Naiko's apartment and successfully lure Naoki Midorikawa. Yamato reveals that Akashi had katakana spray painted on his wall indicating Naoki to be the murderer. Naiko, who was meeting his old friends to ask for money, finds Akashi and having misread the message began to spray it over with red paint cans. He realized that the message was indicating Naoki, takes a picture of the message, and uses it to extort money from Midorikawa. Conan reveals that Akashi had prepared the room to indicate the murderer to be Midorikawa even if the message was painted over. Conan reveals that the white chair was facing the red wall while the black chair was facing the white wall. This corresponds to chess piece colors where white makes the first move. Conan explains that the message tells a person to look at the red wall then look at the white wall; Doing so causes one to see a green complementary color afterimage which indicates Midorikawa. Midorikawa confesses and explains that he blamed Akashi was Aoi's death since she got a heart attack from frantically searching for a portrait of herself. He reveals that Akashi had painted over the portrait since he lacked the money to buy more painting supplies and had Akashi told her, she would not have died. Koumei reveals that Akashi was working on a new portrait for her in secret and had intended to surprise her on her birthday. Midorikawa having realize his mistake breaks down in tears.
Subaru Okiya is an engineering student who currently resides in Shinichi Kudo's house next to Professor Agasa. It is strongly hinted that he is the Black Organization member Bourbon although another popular theory is that Okiya is Akai Shuuichi disguised after faking his death with Hondou Hidemi's help.

Background
Okiya is a graduate student attending Tokyo University to earn a doctorate degree in engineering. He originally lived at a boarding house, where the landlord's son nicknamed him "Red Man," after a firetruck, because he frequently saw him watering the plants. After the boarding house burned down in the Red, White, and Yellow Arson Case, Conan suggested he move into Shinichi's house, explaining to Agasa and Haibara that someone living in the house would help to hide his (Shinichi's) disappearance. When Haibara protested, Conan cheerfully responded that someone who loves Sherlock Holmes cannot be a bad person - much to Haibara's consternation. Nevertheless, Conan decided to keep from Subaru which persons - specifically Ran - were closely connected to Shinichi.

Okiya is left-handed and greatly admires the deductive power of Sherlock Holmes. He is also an excellent detective as he was able to solve several mysteries including the paper airplane case, the Ikkaku Rock case , and the 13 red shirts mystery. He is also shown to be calm in crisis situations and quite skilled at hand to hand combat, capable of knocking a knife out of someone's hand and easily KOing a kidnapper without so much as ruffling his clothing. Okiya also knows how to enable the tracking function of Conan's glasses and that they track the detective boy's badges despite the fact Conan has never used the glasses in front of Okiya.
clear

Personality
Okiya is generally shown to be quiet and reserved, often seeming unfazed by normally stressful situations, such as when Ran attacked him while he was brushing his teeth, believing he had broken into Shinichi's house. or when a murderer grabbed Ayumi as a hostage. He often tends to behave in a friendly and modest manner, smiling and rubbing the back of his head whenever someone compliments him or says anything about him. He enjoys cooking and seems ready and willing to help with various tasks. He doesn't mind interacting with the Detective Boys, is always polite to them, and listens to their theories during cases.

Okiya becomes more serious while working on cases and enjoys revealing the truth to others similar to Conan. Sometimes he speaks mysteriously, leaving the meaning and intentions of what he said open to interpretation. Okiya has a more menacing side seen whenever he takes to the offensive or is intently focusing on something. In this frame of mind, Okiya triggers Haibara's Black Organization sense.

Attributes
Intelligence
Okiya is an intelligent character with observation and case solving abilities comparable to Conan's. On his first meeting with Sonoko and Ran, he correctly deduces they had been to the restaurant "Wonder Burger" and what they had to eat while they were there. He tends to hold back to allow Conan or others to present their conclusions rather than take center stage himself.

Black Organization aura
Okiya emits what Haibara describes as the aura of the Black Organization when he is intently focused on another person or is acting as an aggressor. Haibara only gets the feeling from him transiently.

Hand to hand combat
Okiya demonstrates he is skilled in hand to hand combat when he knocks away the knife a culprit had been using to hold Ayumi hostage with one hand and rescues her from the culprit's grasp in the same quick movement. He also easily KOs a kidnapper without so much as ruffling his clothing although he later comes up with the excuse that he found the kidnapper passed out near the stairs most likely from losing his footing.

Ran kicked Okiya in the face during episode 511 and she thought the kick didn't connect well.clear
Red, white, and yellow arson case (Manga: 622-624, Anime: 509-510)
After school, Conan receives a phone call from Jodie who tells him that the Black Organization has activated a new member codenamed Bourbon. Meanwhile, the Detective Boys receive a request from their classmate, Kaito Suigiura, to investigate the actions of a strange man at his father's apartment building which is close to Shinichi and Agasa's house The next day the Detective Boys find that the apartment has been burned down. Okiya Subaru first appeared as one of the suspects in this arson case. When Inspector Yuminaga introduces the detective boys to the suspects, Okiya gives Ai Haibara the chills which she only gets from those who have been in the Black Organization, although she isn't sure who is responsible at the time and the feeling of pressure unexpectedly disappears.

The revelation that Kaito Suigiura's diary describes a suspicious "yellow" tenant who had argued with the landlord the night the apartment was burnt down leads to the police to question the three suspects about their alibis at the time of the arson as well as their favorite color. Okiya Subaru's alibi was that he was driving alone that night long the verdant Teimuzu river to clear his head after submitting a paper to his professor. Although he likes the greenery of plants, Okiya declared that his favorite is black, "because it covers things inside me that I don't want known", although he hates the color for the same reason.

Conan and Okiya Subaru seem to hit it off when Okiya recognizes Conan quote a line from Sir AC Doyle's "The Adventure of the Copper Beeches". After Conan solves the case, Okiya asks to meet Professor Agasa. After introducing himself, Okiya asks Professor Agasa if he could stay for at his house until he finds another place to live, offering to help Agasa with his research in the spare time. Agasa consents, as long as Haibara also agrees, but Haibara strongly refuses. Conan chimes in offering Shinichi's house, saying that Shinichi has gone missing all of a sudden and Conan will tell Shinichi later that Okiya moved in. Conan overrules Haibara's concerns that the Org may find out through Okiya that Shinichi is still alive by simply saying that "A Holmes fan can't be a bad person!". Conan gives Okiya the key along with the request to "take care of the place while he [Shinichi] is gone" and Okiya agrees.

Conan and Agasa are quick to view Okiya as a resource, seen in the Rolls Royce explosion case where Agasa suggests calling Okiya to bring gasoline when his beetle runs out in a remote location, and later in the same case where Conan secretly asks for his help to set up a trap to trick the culprit into confessing.

Paper airplane case (Manga: 638-640, Anime: 510-511)
Ran and Sonoko visit Shinichi's house to clean up unaware that Okiya is living there, and they confront him thinking he is a thief. Okiya fails to explain fast enough and winds up on the receiving end of Ran's karate kick. Conan calls Ran to explain that Okiya has been living in the house after the fire and warns her not to talk about Shinichi in front of him. After the two girls apologize, Okiya correctly deduces they had been to "Welcome Burger" earlier. Okiya makes a strong impression on Sonoko, while Ran thinks "he looks like someone" and she had met him before.

Sonoko then concocts a deduction battle between Okiya and Shinichi to see who can solve the mystery of the paper airplane first. Shinichi and Subaru prove to be equally skilled although neither know they are competing against one another. During the detective showdown, Okiya overhears Sonoko talking about Shinichi's deductions and asks this Shinichi is also the landlord of the house. Ran, thinking of Conan's warning not to talk about Shinichi to Okiya, interrupts Sonoko to say they are consulting one "Kinichi" and that the landlord Shinichi has no special deduction ability. Okiya easily sees through the lie and reveals he had looked around the house but found no personally identifying items. Sonoko and Ran leave to find another paper airplane and Okiya is left to ponder over the landlord.

The deduction battle continues with Okiya and Conan matching each others' deductions perfectly. With the case solved, Okiya suggests that he will leave calling the police up to Ran and Sonoko because they have police acquaintances, revealing he knows something of the backgrounds of the girls and their connections. When the pair leaves, Okiya celebrates the successful resolution of the case with a Sherlock Holmes story and a glass of bourbon.

Ikkaku rock (Manga: 664-666, Anime: 542-543)
Okiya's next appearance occurs when he comes at the request of Professor Agasa to pick up the detective boys who had gone fishing. Haibara is again suspicious of him, but Conan brushes her feeling aside. Okiya stops Haibara from slipping and offers to cook the Detective boy's fish. When the detective boys stop at an island called Ikkaku Rock, Okiya Subaru takes a group photo. The gang stumble into onto a dead woman who appeared to have gotten lost and died on accident, but Okiya and Conan quickly recognize that she was deliberately abandoned to die. When Detective Juugo Yokomizo tried to prevent the Detective Boys from questioning the suspects, Okiya stepped in, pointing out that sometimes a child's perspective can be the hint that unlocks the truth and, "Weren't there a number of cases that were solved as a result of some hint from these children?" revealing he knows about the Detective Boys' many prior successes. Indeed, with such a hint from Mitsuhiko and Haibara, Conan and Okiya simultaneously realize who the culprit is. After they took turns explaining the case, the culprit pulled out a knife and grabbed Yoshida Ayumi as a hostage. Conan didn't have any gadgets to help him. At that moment, Haibara felt a menacing aura from Okiya, and he slowly approached the criminal, saying he couldn't escape and even if he did, could he bear the pressure and loneliness of hiding in fear of someone uncovering his identity? The provoked criminal removed the knife from Ayumi's neck and lunged at Okiya. In one effortless movement, Okiya knocked the criminal's knife away and took Ayumi from his grasp. Despite his rescue, the malicious pressure Okiya emitted and his words left a strong impression on Haibara who is certain he is one of the Organization members.

A Dangerous Couple (Manga: 680, Anime: 557)
Later, Haibara, who had gone with Professor Agasa on a trip because she did not want to be alone while Okiya was around, demanded that Conan find some excuse to kick Okiya out of Shinichi's house. She explained to Conan that she thinks Conan is keeping him around and using her as bait in order to spy on him. Conan replies that he thinks Okiya is a good man and as for using Haibara as bait, "I-Idiot, you think I would do that!?"
Haunted Warehouse (Manga: 691, Anime: 571)
Conan calls Agasa and finds out he invited Subaru Okiya over to cook because Haibara was out. Agasa says Okiya is a pretty good cook.

Thirteen Red Shirts Case (Manga: 700-704, Anime: 578-581)
Jodie Starling visits the Beika Department Store, the origin of scar Akai's cap, to look for clues about him. Okiya follows her there. Okiya Subaru, along with scar Akai and Conan, is then trapped on one of the department store floors by a bomber demanding to find the sender of thirteen red shirts. Meanwhile the Black Organization has heard that someone who looks like Akai appeared at the department store. Gin and Vodka park outside the department store with the snipers Chianti and Korn to wait for scar Akai.

Back on the bombed floor, Okiya Subaru takes an interest in the red shirts case. He solves the flag semaphore message and deduces it has to do with an incident in the mountains. Okiya then sees scar Akai in the crowd and ducks away before scar Akai could spot him. Okiya goes to the windows out front and spies Gin's Porsche and Chianti who has set up in a hotel across the street.

Conan tranquilizes Mouri Kogoro to begin his deduction show just as Kogoro receives an anonymous text message containing a mostly complete solution to the case from scar Akai. After the case is over, Andre Camel reveals to Jodie the Black Organization are waiting outside with a sniper. Jodie rushes after scar Akai to stop him from being killed, but is prevented from reaching him by Okiya who knocks her over.

To prevent scar Akai from being shot, Conan stirs the crowd up by lying that the store is giving out 10,000 yen gift cards. Okiya confronts Conan, who is surprised to see him, and introduces himself to Mouri Kogoro. He reveals that he was trapped on the bombed floor and tells Conan he was in the area because he visited the Teito bank and followed Conan when he saw Conan enter the Beika Dept store. He leaves Conan with the mysterious quote:

Communications Code (Manga: 755)
Okiya comes to rescue Conan and the detective boys who had been trapped by kidnappers in a building. Okiya thought they had encountered trouble when he noticed that no lights came on at Agasa's house after dark, and when he went over to inspect, the front door was unlocked, nobody was there, and two suspicious phone calls arrived. Okiya uses a spare pair of Conan's tracking glasses in order to find the detective boys, proving he knows about the function of Conan's tracking glasses and that they lock onto the detective badges. Conan has never used the tracking glasses in front of Okiya before. Okiya KO's one of the kidnappers, but tells the detective boys that the robber fell down the stairs. When Haibara questions why he had been paying so much attention to Agasa's house, Okiya tells her he wanted to give them some extra curry he had made for lunch.

Ayumi Kidnapping Case (Manga: 775-777)
Masumi Sera stops Genta and Mitsuhiko outside of Agasa's house to ask them if they are acquaintances of Professor Agasa's. The topic of Shinichi comes up when she talks to the two detective boys about the prior hostage case. Sera asks who is living in the Kudo house now because she saw the curtains shift slightly. The detective boys tell her that Subaru Okiya has been staying there since his apartment burnt down. Sera cryptically comments with a smirk on her face, "And here I thought that someone had just settled in without permission...But it seems I was just getting worked up over nothing..." while looking up at where Okiya Subaru is hiding and secretly observing the conversation.

Later, after Genta ruins Agasa's curry, Okiya secretly follows the detective boys on an errand to buy new ingredients. He tails the detective boys rather closely; Haibara, who is wearing a hat, seems determined not to acknowledge his presence. He stops and looks over his shoulder to watch a car that parked on a side street. The car pulls out of sight and Okiya turns away and continues on, but soon enough car reverses back into its former position. Okiya is later seen in the grocery store, and he worriedly watches Conan and Haibara dash out of the grocery store after hearing that Sera saw Haibara's reflection in Agasa's glasses in an online video. Okiya follows the detective boys back and listens into Conan's conversation at Agasa's via an earpiece while watching on the professor's house from one of the Kudo household's upper story windows.

Relationships analysis
Subaru has met Conan, Haibara, Mitsuhiko, Ayumi, Genta, Inspector Yuminaga, Agasa, Ran, Sonoko, Juugo Yokomizo, Kogoro, Jodie Starling, and Scar Akai.

* Conan Edogawa
Conan trusts Okiya for the most part, and they maintain an amicable relationship. Conan easily lends Okiya the keys to his house. Conan also trusts Okiya to help in cases that put him in close contact with both Ai Haibara and him, like switching out the gasoline in a container for water to solve a case, or calling him to pick up everyone when Agasa’s car broke down. Okiya respects Conan and his intelligence and they both can solve cases at about the same level.

* Hiroshi Agasa
Okiya and Agasa maintain a good relationship with one another. The professor often asks him for favors, like picking the detective boys up from a fishing trip. Agasa also lets Okiya come over and cook from time to time and he will make Agasa food to return the favor, like stir-fried onions and curry. Agasa also seems well informed about when Okiya has free time and is available for favors or when he is on the road.

* Ai Haibara
Ai Haibara doesn't trust Okiya because he gives her the chills which she only gets from those who have been in the Black Organization. She hides from him behind Conan when they meet in person and avoids being alone in Agasa's house when he is around. On his part, Okiya is kind to Haibara and seems to look out for her.

Identity
Okiya's allegiances, goals, and true identity -if he has one- have not been officially revealed.

Bourbon
As mentioned above, it is frequently hinted that he may be Black Organization member Bourbon. Okiya is intelligent and observant, much like Hidemi Hondou describes Bourbon. In both the Paper Airplane Case and the Department Store Bomber case he is shown to be exactly on par with Conan. Okiya is also shown to be drinking Maker's Mark brand bourbon after the Paper Plane Case.

During the Department Store Bomber Case, Okiya notices Scar Akai, but when Scar Akai turns to look in his direction, he has suddenly moved out of sight to the back of the crowd, hiding his face and smiling. He also smiles when he sees Chianti in the building across the street, aiming at the store entrance.

Ai has told Conan that Okiya definitely gives her the dreaded feeling she gets from the Black Organization, and she became certain he was with them during the Ikkaku Rock Case, where he gave a speech to the culprit about how impossible it is to ever truly escape anything, a speech she felt was intended for her When Ai asks why Conan would allow someone as suspicious as him live in the Kudo house, he jokingly answers "No one who likes Holmes can be bad", but Haibara thinks Conan's real reason is to observe Okiya for suspicious activity.

Ran also feels uneasy around him and thinks he looks familiar. At Shinichi's request, Ran goes out of her way to refrain from talking to Okiya about him during the Paper Airplane Case, although Okiya seems to realize anyway who the mystery loving classmate Ran is talking about is Shinichi.

Shuichi Akai
Okiya is Akai Theory

Besides Bourbon, another popular theory is that Okiya is Shuichi Akai who had faked his death with Mizunashi Rena's help. Except for the hair and the glasses, Okiya and Akai look very similar and have similar builds. The glasses Okiya is wearing may be an incorrect prescription, forcing him to squint on purpose similar to what happened with Genta’s dad. Okiya is also left-handed like Akai Shuichi.

Conan appears to instantly trust Okiya Subaru, uncharacteristically ignoring Haibara's bad reaction to him. He also doesn't mind that Okiya is around Haibara, letting him stay at Shinichi's house next door and even suggesting to her to call him when Agasa's beetle broke down. The reason "A Holmes fan can't be a bad person!" Conan gives Haibara as to why he trusts Okiya makes no sense, since the Holmes Freak Murder case involved only Sherlock fans and the password to the APTX data was Sherringford, an indication someone in the Black Organization may be also be a Holmes fan.

Conan also seemed to know about Okiya’s address before ever meeting him. Ran also feels she recognizes Okiya from somewhere. Ran has met Akai three times prior to meeting Okiya.. Finally, Okiya Subaru is a pun on "Char Aznable", which is also the source of "Akai Shuichi" and his alias "Moroboshi Dai" as well.

The theory that Okiya is Akai requires that the Akai with the scar is a different character in disguise, possibly Bourbon, because both Subaru and scar Akai both appear in the same crowd at the same time.

Third Party
Some amount of fans have also been making third party theories; theories in which Subaru is neither Akai nor Bourbon, but someone else entirely. These theories include, but are not limited to Okiya being part of Interpol, CIA, or one of Akai's unknown connections.

Name origin
Okiya's name comes from Casval (sounds like Kyasubaru in Japanese) Rem Deikun, the real name of Mobile Suit Gundam character Char Aznable, whom Shuichi Akai is also named after.
