== Relationship analysis ==
[[Heiji Hattori|Heiji]] and [[Kazuha Toyama|Kazuha]] grew up together and are easily each other's best friend. Neither of them have been shown to have other close friendships, though Heiji does have a rivalry with fellow kendo practitioner [[The_Osaka_Double_Mystery_-_The_Naniwa_Swordsman_and_Toyotomi%27s_Castle#People|Okita]]. They often spend time together, and Kazuha typically comes along when Heiji visits the Mouri's or vice versa, getting caught up with Heiji in the criminal investigation. Kazuha and Heiji both wear good-luck charms that Kazuha made with pieces of the handcuff chain that stuck them together temporarily as children.<ref name=StabbetWallet>Manga Volume 19: Files 185 (Stabbed Wallet Case)</ref> Kazuha and Heiji have both shown jealousy when the other appears interested in someone else, but they are not officially in a romantic relationship. Kazuha has demonstrated awareness of her affection for Heiji, but has been either too shy or otherwise interrupted any time she tries to tell him. Heiji, in contrast, is either emotionally oblivious or purposefully ignoring his feelings for Kazuha for most of the series. Heiji has yet to attempt any sort of confession to Kazuha, but he is very protective of her. In one of the most recent cases, Heiji thought that Kazuha was being taken away by a couple of strange men. Furious, Heiji pins the guy holding Kazuha and yells at him saying "Whatcha doin' to my Kazuha?!". Seemingly confessing that she's his girlfriend out loud. But because he's too embarrassed to admit his own confession, he says that she has no proof to say that he actually confessed to her.

After Ran watches Heiji and Kazuha interact, and Heiji explain that the "Kudo" he has been talking about is actually a guy, Ran asks if they are a couple. They both deny it, citing their fathers' connection, but Kazuha admits with a blush that she had been following Heiji and the Mouris for some time to make sure Heiji didn't "get carried away by some Tokyo girl."

*When Heiji leaves to investigate the murder, Kazuha calls after him to be sure he has his lucky charm for protection. Heiji confirms that he does and tells her to not worry.

*Kazuha reveals with a blush that she hid a piece of the handcuffs in the charm she gave to Heiji, though he may be unaware of it.

*At a temple for prayers, Heiji says Kazuha should ask for nice legs, causing Kazuha to blush.

*After the case concludes, Ran pushes Kazuha to wear the same sort of shirt as Heiji. When Heiji notices, Kazuha blushes and says she'll change. Heiji says he doesn't mind... because it makes them look like siblings. Kazuha looks nonplussed by the unromantic comparison.

When Yuzo Takeda states how after both Conan and Heiji learned that the place the girls were going was cursed and dashed out, Kazuha, blushes and smiles,then asks if he was worried. Blushing, Heiji denies that's not the case.
* Heiji gets a horrified expression when he sees Kazuha tangled in wires; he proceeds to repeatedly shout her name, asking her to wake up. And when Kazuha does wake up, Heiji has a content look on his face.
* When confronting the Liuji family on Kazuha being attacked by the murderer, Heiji mockingly states that after Kazuha wakes up, she'll reveal who attempted to kill her. The classic "red, angry" mark can be seen on his head, meaning how ''furious'' Heiji is of who tried to hurt Kazuha.
* Kazuha blushes and twitches her eyes when Heiji tells her to "take off her clothes" (it had to do with the case). He even tries to take off her shirt, himself. Earning him a well deserved slap in the face.

*After the murder occurs, Kazuha happily tells Ran that the criminal will be found soon because Heiji flipped his cap from back to front, signifying his becoming serious. She adds with a blush that Ran shouldn't praise him, because Heiji's weakness is that he's too confident, causing Ran to hug Kazuha and call her cute.

*After the second murder, Heiji tells Kazuha not to wander off, causing her to blush. She takes him at his word and follows as he investigates, as well as offering to protect him with her blessed arrow. Heiji doesn't think much of it, but Kazuha privately affirms that she means it seriously.

*In pursuit of a memorial stone, Heiji runs nearly off a cliff, saved only by Kazuha swinging him around to trade places. As a result, she falls, and Heiji dives after her, catching onto a tree in the cliff face with one hand and her with the other. Kazuha believes the branch Heiji is holding will break if he tries to pull her up, and stabs the hand holding her wrist with the mermaid arrow to transfer her "long life" to Heiji. To her surprise, Heiji still doesn't let go and gets them both to safety despite the injury.

*Heiji berates Kazuha for giving Kogoro, Ran, and Conan the exact same information and tour he did when they first came to Osaka, making Kazuha angry and embarrassed at Heiji's statement.

*When Kazuha loses her wallet, she refuses to give up looking for it because it had her good-luck charm (with the handcuff chain) and other charms to ward off a murder case inside.

*Kazuha called her father to help investigate because he knows additional information about the case; she initially tries to get Heiji to leave with her, but then leaves with just Ran because she wants to see his triumphant expression when he's solved the case. When he gets that expression, she blushes happily and assures the others that Heiji knows who the criminal is already.

Ran comments in the background that his statement is phrased oddly, as if that might not be what he originally intended to say.

* When Heiji drops the pin he was using to unlock the handcuffs, Kazuha becomes panicked and Heiji asks if she has some type of wire with her. She tells him that was the only thing she had.
* Kazuha asks Heiji if it would just be better for them to solve the code they gave them, since they said they would be released unharmed if they did.
* Heiji and Kazuha are threatened by the two kidnappers that if they didn't solve the code, then they would be as cold as the other guy they caught.
* Kazuha whispers Heiji's name softly in fear and Heiji comforts her by saying that they don't know "That Guy" (referencing Shinichi), causing Kazuha to become confused at his statement.
* Kazuha looks at Heiji with concern and worry as he is abused by the two kidnappers.
* Kazuha asks Heiji if he is alright and that he has to hang on.
* When Heiji is punched in the stomach by one of the kidnappers, Kazuha says his name with deep concern.
* After Heiji gets his hair pulled by one of the kidnappers to get his ear sliced off, Kazuha exclaims Heiji's name in fear for his safety.
* Kazuha yells at the Kidnapper with the knife to stop with tears in her eyes. Not wanting any harm to come to Heiji.
* Heiji leads Kazuha to the window where he exclaims in surprise that Shinichi (Conan) was leaving them. Kazuha tells him that he's probably thinking of a way to save them but Heiji doubts her claims.
* Heiji, frustrated at their situation, says that he has no other choice but to break the window. Causing Kazuha to freak out at his proclamation.
* Heiji turned around when Kazuha began to recount how her father knew Kusukawa-San was a gambler and scolded her for not telling him sooner.
* When Kazuha asks Heiji if he has the entire answer to the problem, Heiji smiles and says that he does saying that it is easy to remember if you gamble.
* Misari threatens Heiji that if he messed up on the top part of the problem than he would find himself covered in his Girlfriend's (Kazuha's) blood.
* Heiji and Kazuha are both horrified when they realize Misari's full plan.
* Misari asks Heiji if he has any last words to say before she kills him, After a while and a threat, Heiji says that his last words were directed to Kazuha right behind him.
* Kazuha's eyes widen when he says that his final words are for her.
* When Misari says that his Girlfriend (Kazuha) won't last much longer than him, he says that it's something that he's been wanting to tell her forever and asks for the gun to be put down until he is finished.
* When Misari starts to rush Heiji on his last words to Kazuha, he says that he wants to make sure that it is perfect so that she remembers it when she's up in Heaven. Causing Kazuha to blush at his statement.
* When Heiji's plan is foiled to get the gun away from Misari, he gets kicked down and Kazuha cries out his name in concern and fear.
* While Misari is counting down before she shoots Heiji, He tells Kazuha that he was telling the truth when he said that his final words were for her. Saying that he almost said it over and over and that every time he felt her tremble against his back he- and he stops right there before he embraces for the impact of the gun shot.
* Kazuha listens to this in a horrified gaze with tears filling up her eyes.
* After Heiji is released and is about to leave with Misari, Kazuha looks at him with scared eyes and asks if they survived this than he would tell her what he was about to say. Causing Heiji to smile and reply that he'll keep saying it until she gets tired of it.
* After Misari is arrested along with her accomplices, Heiji tells Shinichi (Conan) that the case was close in many ways. Thinking back to the point where he was almost shot in front of Kazuha when he was telling her his final words.
* Heiji started to blush hard when Kazuha asked him what his final words were and scratched his cheek as he started to say them over to her again, but he gets embarrassed and scared and told her that her pigtail was bothering him every single time she moved. Angering Kazuha and causing Shinichi to wince with sympathy, who was listening on the other side blushing as well for his situation.

* When Kazuha looks at Heiji confused about the Arsonist, Heiji takes the time to explain to her and the others what the arsonist is trying to accomplish.
* Kazuha wishes Heiji and the others luck on their detective business when she heads off with Ran. Heiji smiles at her and replies back "OK."
* When Kazuha comments that Heiji and Conan get along really well, Ran asks if she's jealous of Conan. Making Kazuha deny any such thing.

* Heiji agrees and says that they were on their way when a couple of firetrucks came by and made them worried. So they went back to discover the house was in flames. Causing Kazuha to become surprised with the news.
* Kazuha calls Heiji an Idiot since she thought she had found the perfect shirt that would fit him when she and Ran went out shopping together. Wanting to show him the shirt when they got home.
* Ran reassures Kazuha saying that Heiji and the others would be back home soon.
* Kazuha becomes severely frustrated with Heiji when it becomes late at night, saying to forget them and go to bed since they're going to Tropical Land in the morning. But Ran stops her before she went to bed by asking to put the teruterubozu over her Dad's window.
* When Heiji hears that Kazuha and Ran received a Red Horse key chain, he yells at Kogoro to tell him what block his apartment is on. With concern in his eyes for their safety.
* After Kazuha and Heiji see each other again at Ran's place, he asked her in a concerned voice what had happened.

* When Heiji finally figures out what the dying message means, he smiles and looks back at Kazuha. Apologizing that he has solved the message and that he's going to win the competition.

* Shinichi (Conan) Is dumbfounded when Heiji solves the case, since Heiji's main intention was to let Kazuha win the competition so that they would all go to Takarazuka instead of Koshien.
* Heiji is frightened when he realizes that he accidentally got too wrapped up in solving the case and turns to hear Kazuha congratulate him and says that she'll practice the Tiger's Fight song and turns to leave him.

Later she privately confides to Ran that she came to get the charm back without letting Heiji look inside, because she secretly keeps a small photo of his face inside it. Ran agrees to help, but teases Kazuha with the possibility of showing Heiji the photo.
*After the case is solved, the charm is released from police evidence to Heiji, which causes Kazuha to panic and run after him. When she tried to follow him, she encountered a [[Vermouth|serial killer]], who seemed inclined to kill her but then fell off the stairwell—and when she instinctively tried to save the man, Shinichi arrived to help her pull him up. Shinichi's answered the man's demand of why they saved him is when Ran realized that the earlier murder wasn't her fault... and when she finally wakes up out of the dreams, she remembers how that night was the night she realized her feelings for Shinichi and how important he is to her.
* When Kogoro asks about Ran's fever-mumblings about "logical mind" and "helping people" (from Shinichi's response to the killer), she blushes and tells Kogoro not to say her "important words" in Kogoro's husky voice. Conan quietly blushes himself.

Ran tries to not expect anything from Shinichi, but when even Sonoko receives a gift from Makoto, Ran can't help but be disappointed. Conan, seeing her crying, directs her attention to an envelope at the door—to her surprise, there are cough drops from Shinichi with a letter that she sounded a bit sick over the phone so he sent them for her to get better. Ran eats them, happy to have a sign that her feelings were received.

However, the bomb doesn't go off because Ran cut the blue wire instead—to her, red is her and Shinichi's lucky color, and cutting the red wire would have been like cutting the 'red thread of fate' that connects them together.

When he uses the bottle to give her air, Ran thinks she sees Shinichi at first before realizing that it's Conan. Conan tries to move the car, but gets trapped himself and runs out of air. Ran gives Conan a 'kiss' of mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and faints again when he revives from having sacrificed all of her air. However, Conan is able to quickly free himself and then use the [[Elasticity Suspenders]] to lever the car off and get them both back to the surface. Ran recovers and thanks Conan, causing him to blush.
* When the culprit is identified he grabs the still-unrecovered Ran as a hostage and orders Conan to bring him Inspector [[Ninzaburo Shiratori|Shiratori]]'s gun. Conan does so, but only to take aim and graze Ran in the leg to make her a useless hostage, and so save her. As he does, Ran sees an echo of Shinichi in Conan, and she believes that Shinichi would have done the same in that situation. Ran tells [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]] that she'd held the Ace of Spades card the culprit had intended to represent Shinichi while she was hostage, and she'd felt like Shinichi was protecting her. With no way to fool her, Conan recalls his earlier fortune that "A secret will be revealed", and resigns himself to telling the truth. He's saved only by the appearance of [[Kaitou Kid]] disguised as Shinichi, but Kid walks back out while Ran hurries to get him a dry shirt, and vanishes back into the rain just as she runs out after him. Ran angrily threatens to karate-chop Shinichi the next time she sees him for just walking away without saying goodbye, and Conan decides that for the time being he's better off not telling her that he's Shinichi.

* During Ran's bout of trauma-induced amnesia, Conan saves her from being run over by a train by jumping down onto the tracks where she'd been pushed and dragging her to safety in the nick of time.
* While running together from the culprit through Tropical Land, Ran asks Conan why he keeps protecting her. Conan smiles at her replies, "Because I love you. I love you more than anyone else in this world."
* A soda in Ran's backpack gets hit by a bullet and starts to fizz out, causing Conan to remember the events in the flashback above. He lures the culprit to the fountain just in time for another performance, and the sight of the gun poking through the wall of water triggers Ran's memory of the culprit shooting Detective [[Miwako Sato|Sato]] through a hole cut in a clear plastic umbrella. As her memory returns, the first two images are of Shinichi at Tropical Land the first time announcing the start of the fountain display, and then Conan, laughing.
* Conan disarms and seemingly knocks out the culprit with a kicked soda can. Ran says his name, and just from the way she speaks he realizes that her memory is back, taking him off guard. The culprit seizes the chance to grab Conan and is about to stab him with a knife, but Ran kicks the knife in half to protect Conan and proceeds to knock the culprit flat.

Her happiness and relief at seeing him reminds Shinichi of the other time she waited, and he smiles. When he knocks her out to prevent her from seeing him revert to Conan, he catches her in a hug.

Ran objects at his carefree confidence, and how he's never more than a voice when she needs him, and if he does appear he leaves again to leave her behind… which she hates because she really likes him (好き ''suki''). Before Conan can reply, they are interrupted by the chance to land the plane safely.
* After the landing, Kid checks on Ran in the disguise of a Medic, and compliments her on the landing. When Conan calls Ran's phone as Shinichi, she's convinced herself, to her relief, that the 'Shinichi' that helped guide her through the landing and seemed to be there on the plane with her (close enough that she heard Conan yell during turbulence) was Kid, and her secret is safe. Shinichi asks about the secret, but she tells him to deduce it, since he's a detective. Shinichi demands how he could, and she replies that he should arrest Kid and ask him, then. The movie ends with Shinichi protesting.

When no one could find her, Shinichi, who had originally refused to play, easily deduced where Ran had hid based on his observations of her. When he explained how he knew, Ran declared that he was always taking care of her, causing young Shinichi to blush, deny it, and run off. In the present, Ran blushes and smiles at the memory, then blushes more when Sonoko declares that Ran thinks only Shinichi can find her, and uses young Shinichi's denial that the blush is only the sunset.
* After Ran is trapped on the sinking cruiser, Conan has a feeling that he's in danger of losing something he can never get back. Alone, Ran asks Shinichi to find her, just like last time. Conan realizes she's under the deck, and rescues her with Kogoro. A helicopter comes to provide an airlift, but an antenna prow hits them as they rise and Conan drops back to the ship. On the last chance to be rescued, Conan jumps and misses Kogoro's hand, but Ran grabs him before he can fall, saving his life.

Conan promises to solve the case and begs for the release of the hostages, but the client's only reply is to mention how painful it is to lose a loved one, and Shinichi should do his best to prevent that outcome.
* Conan fractures his leg during the case, and Heiji teases him after the danger passes that the best medicine for Conan is to be carried piggyback by Ran. Conan blushes deeply and swipes at Heiji from where Ran is carrying him while Heiji laughs.

Conan immediately abandons everything to rush to the island's clinic, arriving out of breath to discover with relief that Ran remains unhurt.
* Treasure hunters kidnap Ran and Sonoko to help them reach some hidden treasure supposedly belonging to legendary pirates Anne Bonnie and Mary Read. Agasa doesn't even try to dissuade Shinichi from to rescue Ran, and Conan arrives with his inflatable soccer ball just in the nick of time to save them from being shot. When they try to escape the underwater cave, an earthquake causes it to start flooding. Conan gives Sonoko and Ran mini airtanks given by Agasa, and lies that he has a third in his pocket when Ran asks how he'll breathe. His face gives Ran a flashback to a memory of Shinichi, and when the ship bearing them to the surface floods, Ran uses her minitank to give Conan oxygen after he passes out from lack of air. After the police and Kogoro rescue them, Conan asks how Ran knew he didn't really have a tank. Ran explains that in middle school, Shinichi lent her an umbrella during a surprise rainstorm and promised he had a second in his schoolbag. He didn't, and ended up catching a cold, and Conan's expression reminded Ran of Shinichi's back then, which convinced her that Conan was lying.

Conan is surprised, and later plays the violin alone in his house's study, trying to figure out what the distinctive mannerism is.

* [[Irish]] has the upper hand in a fight with Conan when Ran dives in to the rescue, despite an injured Conan telling her to run. Irish threatens her with a gun, but to protect Conan, Ran remembers a lecture Shinichi gave on how someone could try to dodge a bullet, and has the confidence to try and succeed. Irish still nearly manages to beat her in hand to hand after she's shocked to see his disguise rip, until Conan calls encouragement in Shinichi's voice and distracts him.
* In the aftermath, Conan informs Ran that Shinichi already left, but that he finished the one dangerous case Conan earlier used as an excuse for her to not call him and that she 'could call him again'. At Ran's narrowed eyes, Conan quickly corrects himself to say Shinichi specifically asked her to call, and Ran smiles and says just hearing Shinichi's voice is enough for now, since there are other people who also can only meet once a year (the myth of Orihime and Hikoboshi).

* After Ran believes she is infected with the terrorists' deadly virus, she tries to keep Conan away from her to keep him safe until he happily explains that the 'virus' is a reaction to lacquer, and she's safe.

Kid implies that he'll do it for her, for a kiss, and she willingly goes along until Kid puts his hand on her butt – proving to her that Kid is ''not'' Shinichi. When Conan tries to figure out what Kid did, she only blushes and tells him that Kid did something Shinichi would never do, which Conan doesn't get.

Conan writes the souvenir options she gives him in the snow and circles his choice, but then forgets to erase it as he runs off to try to keep Genta, Ayumi and Mitsuhiko out of mischief. Ran discovers the list and wonders if Shinichi came to the lodge too, without telling her.
* Ran, Sonoko, Kogoro, [[Hiroshi Agasa|Agasa]], Takehiko Muto, Mizuki Tono, and two dam workers watch from a car as Conan succeeds in causing an avalanche to try to save the village from the approaching flood. As he tries to outrace the snow on his snowboard, Ran screams for him to "LOOK OUT!", which Conan, impossibly, hears. He sees her worried face in the distance and thinks her name just before the avalanche overtakes him. As the 15-minute mark that denotes a poor prognosis for an avalanche victim approaches, Ran calls Conan's cell and digs until her fingers bleed. Unsuccessful, she tries to call Shinichi's phone as a last desperate gamble, since she thought he was in the village area. The ring-tone pulls Conan back to consciousness, and he signals his location with the soccer ball belt. Ran digs him free and pulls him into a hug, crying for him to wake up, which he manages to do with a weak smile.
