==Plot==

[[Kaito Kuroba]], a normal teenage high school student, stumbles across the secret of his father's death: his father was not only a magician, but the famous phantom thief [[Kaitou Kid]], and was killed by an organization for reasons unknown. Taking up his father's mantle in an attempt to bait the killers, Kaito performs a number of thefts and eventually learns that his father died for interfering in the organization's quest to find the Pandora Gem. Pandora is said to glow in the light of the moon, and beneath the moon and a certain comet, will shed a tear granting immortality to whomever drinks it. Kaito then decides to search for Pandora as Kaitou Kid and destroy it, in order to prevent the organization from obtaining their goals.

Akako forsees Kid captured by Hakuba, so she disguises herself as him. akuba talks with Kaito alone and handcuffs Kaito to himself so he can "prove" to Hakuba that he isn't Kid.
When the time of the heist is here, there wasn’t any sign of Kaitou Kid. Hakuba thinking that he won this 'match' when suddenly Kaitou Kid appeared and took the sapphire and escaped. That Kaitou Kid took out a broom and flew away. Noticing how this Kid screamed like a girl, Kaito figures out that this Kid must be Akako and so he manages to escape Hakuba’s handcuffs and helped Akako out a bit.
Back outside, Akako is relieved that Kaito is drawn out of suspicion and is ready to fly back but is approached by Spider who used an illusion on her and used her to attempt to kill Kid but he failed. Hakuba then came out and reveals that Spider’s true identity is the illusionist Gunter Von Goldberg II. When the police came Spider escapes by dropping a smoke bomb and goes away with the words, “The night is always by your side”. The police came but fail to capture Kid but the jewel is saved.}}

== Background ==
Yumi is a traffic cop who mostly focuses on traffic accidents and hit-and-runs. She often runs into the [[Detective Boys]] and [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] when they are in the middle of solving a case, and has helped them numerous times in solving cases and catching criminals.

Yumi's best friend is [[Miwako Sato]], whom she often teased about her feelings for [[Wataru Takagi]]. She often went to the both of them and gave them both advice on how to tell each other how they felt, which was sometimes successful; but other times, the plans failed due to Takagi and Sato's shyness around each other. With Takagi and Sato finally having confessed their feelings to each other, and with their greatest competitor, [[Ninzaburo Shiratori|Shiratori]], having found [[Sumiko Kobayashi|his match]] as well, she is possibly now left at a loss at whom to tease.

== Personality ==
Yumi is a rather mischievous person and a compulsive match-maker who tries every trick in the trade to bring Sato and Takagi together, even going so far as dropping hints to others about their dates in order to prompt jealousy. She is considered an attractive member of the police force, but is still single. This allows her to take advantage of the men in the district, having them buy gifts for her to try and impress her. However, she is also jealous of Sato and others for having relationships while she remains single, and did everything she could to keep [[Detective Chiba|Chiba]] and [[Naeko Miike|Miike]] from spending too much time alone when she noticed how well they were getting along. Yumi had a boyfriend in her college years whom she had dumped. The boyfriend is said to have a childish personality and very immature, but good looking. Yumi dumped him due to his personality. But years later, they met again after Naeko's friend called Naeko that someone is dead in an apartment and Yumi and her ex-boyfriend met again and revealed that to the Detective Boys and Yumi looking at him with a not-him-again face.<ref>Volume 49, File 506, page 11: "The Secret Path to School"</ref>

Amuro's past within the [[Black Organization]] is unknown, but it seems he has been tied to them for a while. He knew [[Shiho Miyano]]'s parents who died when Shiho was young suggesting that he has some involvement since he was a teenager.<ref name=824p5>Manga Volume 78, File 7 (824), Page 5: "Mystery Train: Final Destination"</ref> He was the rival of [[Shuichi Akai]] (alias Dai Moroboshi) who was [[Akemi Miyano|Akemi]]'s lover at the time.<ref name=824p5/> He had suspected Dai Moroboshi was a spy for the FBI which turned out to be the case.<ref name=824p5/>

Soon after Shuichi Akai's death, [[Hidemi Hondou|Kir]] called [[Jodie Starling]] to report that a new member of the Black Organization called Bourbon had been dispatched. Amuro has a cheerful personality. He is also generous, bringing a plate of sandwiches for the detective agency bought with his money. In more serious situations, he seems to be patient, keeping calm even while others are abusing him. Although somewhat of a "cool type", he does not hide his emotions and is quite expressive. Like other detectives in ''[[Detective Conan]]'', he enjoys presenting his deductions about cases to others. He is also manipulative, tricking others into performing certain actions so he can gather information. Kogoro calls him "effeminate".

Gin has revealed that Bourbon is as secretive as Vermouth. Bourbon has shown a friendly relationship with Vermouth but not with other memebers so far. Bourbon even hid some details from Conan. It is possible that Bourbon, as well as Kir, is a member who doesn´t like the Organization. Date himself revealed that Bourbon was the best man at the police academy, and that Bourbon was a gentleman like Takagi, too. Besides, at the end of Takagi´s Kidnapping Case, Bourbo refers to Date as "my friend", which means he had no option but to cut all means of contact with him for his own safety.

He purposefully drops some cake on Banba's pants trying to make Banba too embarrassed to approach women later. Banba complains about Amuro's "mistake", but Kamon tells Amuro it's alright to protect him. Banba later gets drunk, and Amuro has to point out his phone is ringing. Sanji confirms Amuro has a matching voice by asking Amuro to repeat his order, a bourbon on the rocks.

Banba is furious at Amuro and begins to harass him; like shouldering him and knocking Amuro over in front of the other waiters. Later Kamon dies in a car fire that is ruled an arson, and Banba accuses Amuro of starting it because he is Kamon's lover. Amuro denies this and says that Banba may have been trying to disguise wounds he received while fighting with Kamon by tripping Amuro. Amuro then takes off his glasses and reveals himself to be a private detective hired by Kamon, not her lover.

After Amuro correctly gives his deduction that Sanji was a detective hired by Banba, Kogoro accuses Amuro of driving Kamon to suicide by telling her about her husband's shameless flirting, but Amuro denies contacting Kamon by phone. Amuro accuses Banba of being the murderer, which antagonizes Banba into to rushing him. Amuro dodges and trips Banba and asks Kogoro to hold Banba's legs. From the condition of the bottom of Banba's shoes and Amuro's detailed background investigation of Banba and Kamon, [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] is able to deduce that Kamon's death was really a suicide. Amuro continues to accuse Banba after more DNA evidence comes in, but Conan prevents his arrest by using [[Kogoro#Detective_Skills|Sleeping Kogoro]] to ask Banba a critical question that reveals he never stepped outside. Amuro challenges Kogoro's deduction, suggesting that maybe Banba used a [[Shuichi Akai|knit cap]] and [[Scar Akai|long windbreaker]] to disguise himself, but Sleeping Kogoro counters by pointing out the condition of Banba's shoes. Defeated, Amuro demands Kogoro explain the matching DNA, which he does, revealing that Kamon and Banba are identical twins, but Kamon had a chromosomal abnormality that resulted in her being phenotypically female. Humbled, Amuro explains the abnormality condition to those present which [[Juzo Megure|Inspector Megure]] confirms.

One day later, Amuro has started work as a waiter at [[Setting#Cafe_Poirot|Café Poirot]] below [[Setting#The_Mouri_Detective_Agency|Mouri Detective Agency]]. While Kogoro and the gang are watching a news report on a recent bank robbery, Amuro stops by with sandwiches from the Poirot after finishing his part time job for the day. After commenting on the robbery, Amuro reveals that he wants the scoop on Kogoro's newest case request after deducing from Kogoro's appearance and habits that Kogoro had a case. Kogoro gets a text from the client requesting that Kogoro switch the meeting location to the [[Setting#Cafe_Columbo|Café Columbo]], and Amuro goes with them after changing out of his work clothes. At the Columbo, Kogoro explains to Amuro the request was to find the locker a key belongs to. The client fails to show, so Amuro, Kogoro, Conan, and Ran go back to the Detective Agency to make sure the client didn't actually turn up there instead. When Amuro arrives at the agency, he and Conan notice someone had broken in and appeared to have intercepted the client while they were out. Stepping outside, Amuro explains his deductions to the rest of the gang and that the culprit is hiding in the restroom. [[File:Amuro796.jpg|thumb|left|220px|Amuro and Conan heard the gunshot]] Before Amuro can open the bathroom door, a gunshot rings out, and Conan rushes in to find a dead man who apparently committed suicide with a gun and a taped-up crying woman. The woman's story is that the now-dead guy was interrogating her about the key and locker and committed suicide when Kogoro returned early, but Amuro and Conan suspect she is lying and may have murdered the man.

Amuro questions the woman a little, and Megure comments to Kogoro about he has yet another detective hanging around him. Curious, Amuro asks about [[Masumi Sera|the other detective]] and hears she is a young girl. Amuro offers to drive the formerly tied up woman to her home after questioning was postponed until the next day. Conan, Ran and Kogoro come along for the ride. At the woman's house, Conan, Amuro, and Kogoro announce they need to use the restroom and go inside. Ran turns on her cellphone and immediately gets a call from Sera, who was worried after seeing the news of the murder. The call is full of static, and Amuro suddenly shuts Ran's phone and announces the place is bugged, which is interfering with the cellphone signal. Amuro gets out a bug detector and begins sweeping the house.
Ran, Amuro, and Kogoro find several bugs before coming across a large suitcase under a bed that is emitting a horrible smell. They opened the bugged suitcase and find a corpse inside.

Soon afterwards, it was revealed that the culprit was indeed the woman, who sent Kogoro a message claiming that she was having Conan in her hands. During the investigation, they have found out a video recording summary, which contains many news about the robbery, inside the TV. Amuro then quickly gave out the speculation that the apartment might actually belonged to one of the robbers instead. Ran didn't understand how a detective of such level of intelligence could willingly become her father's apprentice. However, Amuro modestly answered that Kogoro was just testing him, and that he still had got much to learn.

Later, they decided to check up the house's computer, which was protected with password. Amuro discovered that the password was hidden under the desk, but instead of revealing the fact directly, he chose to hint Kogoro and Ran about it. After having gained access to the computer,
they have all found out the identity of the third robber and her location, where Conan's kidnapper would most likely pay a visit. They followed the address and drive to that place, Sera approached them closely from behind. However, while still on the road, they suddenly learned that the third robber had been overwhelming both Conan and the killer, and they were in serious danger. Right after determining the exact car that those three were in, Amuro purposely crashed his own car into theirs in order to stop it. In the end, the robber was defeated by Sera, Conan was safe. Amuro, Sera, Okiya (who was driving Agasa and Haibara to the scene) were all shown to receive a mysterious call. Vermouth called Bourbon and commented that he had gained some trust<ref>It wasn't specified whose trust</ref> and that she expected him to keep his (unstated) promise to her.

Conan and the [[Detective Boys]] encounter Amuro who was coming from the police station due to the event of the [[Detectives' Nocturne|"Online Client"]] case. Because he had crashed his car into the car of the woman who kidnapped Conan, he was called to come there and finish some procedures so the police could determine whether his action had been overkill. He expresses his disappointment at not being able to meet [[Professor Agasa]] with them. He also states that he had another purpose for coming to the station, but when asked by Conan what it is, Amuro claims that it "has already disappeared".

Later, when [[Wataru Takagi|Takagi]] is still trapped, he reminisces of a time with his mentor [[Wataru Date]] and he said that Date was the top student at the police academy. However, Date rebutted this and told Takagi that he had always been number 2. He also said that neither his brains nor his brawn was anything compared to that guy who was like a gentleman. Later, it's revealed that the person whom Date was talking about is Amuro. He leaves a toothpick by Date's grave and watches Takagi and Sato pay their respects. Before leaving, he deletes a text message that Date sent him, while thinking "Rest in peace, my friend..."

Ran and Kogoro are being served by Amuro at the Poirot. Presumably in reponse to being asked about Conan's absence, Kogoro tells Amuro that Conan and the [[Detective Boys]] went camping in Gunma, and they will be sending pictures to Kogoro's computer later. When Sera calls Ran to ask about [[Vehicles_in_Detective_Conan#Volkswagen_Beetle|what sort of vehicle Agasa drives]], Amuro listens suspiciously. Late that night, Amuro furtively sneaks into the empty Mouri Detective Agency and logs onto Kogoro's website using the password Kogoro inadvertently told him [[Tooru_Amuro#Murder_at_Mouri_Detective_Agency_.28Manga:_796-800.29|in an earlier case]]. Instead of pictures from the Detective Boys' camping trip that he was expecting, he sees a video sent by someone (Mitsuhiko) that shows [[Shiho Miyano]] rescuing [[Ayumi]] from a cabin fire. He is shocked, and then he zooms in on her hand and notices she is wearing a pass ring for the Bell Tree Express mystery train. Amuro then notices that Kogoro's computer was being hacked [[Subaru Okiya|by someone]] and wonders who did it. Amuro passes over the information that Shiho appeared in Gunma and will be boarding the mystery train to Vermouth who will relay it to Gin.

===Mystery Train (Manga: [[Volume 78|820-824]])===

Amuro appears on the train where he runs into Ran and the others. When asked what he is doing there, Amuro claims he won his tickets in an online auction and that he coincidentally met Kogoro in the dining cart where he learned of the case. When Masumi Sera runs off to find Scar Akai (Vermouth), Amuro is seen with his phone out contacting Vermouth that she was heading her way. He then comes when Conan (through Kogoro) starts his deduction on the murder culprit and reveals that three mirror plates were stuffed in a painting which was used for the locked room murder trick.

However, after the culprit confesses, Vermouth activated smoke canisters throughout the train in order to lure Ai Haibara (who supposedly transformed back to Shiho Miyano) out. After that is successful, Amuro introduces himself to her by calling himself Bourbon. He goes on to ask Shiho if she knows who he is to which she claims that he was a rival to her sister's love Dai Moroboshi (Shuichi Akai). Amuro starts to gloat saying that he knew Akai was FBI and that he couldn't believe that he was killed. He then says he decided to disguise as Akai in front of those close to him, although he asked Vermouth to disguise as him on the train. From that, he could only conclude that Akai really died. Putting Shiho at gunpoint, he tells her to go into the eighth cart so he can detach it with C4 explosives and bring her back to the organization. However, Shiho reveals that there are more C4 explosives in the train, when Amuro realizes that Vermouth put them there and that she plans to have Sherry killed. However, before he can do anything else, the real Akai (whom Amuro mistook as Vermouth) comes behind him and throws a grenade to detach the eighth cart. Amuro dodges the explosive relatively unscathed and the eighth cart explodes, but Shiho (who was really Kaitou Kid in disguise) is able to escape. Amuro then regroups with Vermouth and asks her to give him the files on before and after Akai's death. He thinks to himself that he'll have to start from square one, while Okiya, who is revealed to be Shuichi Akai watches on silently.

After the events of the Bell Tree express, Amuro went on sick leave which Conan took as a sign that he wasn't planning to return. However, to Conan's horror, Amuro had asked Kogoro if he and Sonoko wanted tennis lessons. He meets them at a tennis court and reveals he will be coming back to work at the Poirot next week. When a tennis racket accidentally slips from a player's hand, Amuro tries to warn Conan that it will hit him, but Conan is unable to dodge it in time. Conan is knocked unconscious, and Amuro rushes over and does everything to make sure Conan is assisted medically before a real doctor arrives to check Conan's condition. When Conan awakens, he finds out he was moved to the house of the person who hit him with the racket. After an apology, the group asks if Amuro, Sonoko, and the Mouris would like to play doubles tennis with them. Conan goes off to take a nap, but a loud noise wakes him up, and he discovers one of the players has been murdered and the body is locked in the room with him. Worried about the noise, Amuro picks the room's lock and tries to open the door, but Conan yells at him to stop as there is a beaten body next to it. When the police come to investigate, Amuro helps in the investigation. As Conan prepares to tranquilize Kogoro, Amuro, starting to get suspicious, bends down to examine Conan aiming his watch, which prevents Conan from using it. Conan is instead forced to give out hints to lead Kogoro and the police to the right answer. After the case is over, Amuro and Vermouth have a phone conversation. The Detective Boys become trapped in a refrigerated delivery truck with a cat, a dead body, and two murderous workers. Unable to call for help and out of other options, Conan decides to try to get a message to Amuro using the cat and a doctored receipt. The receipt initially blew away, but after realizing it was from Conan, Amuro tracks it down using a specialized app on his phone that can simulate wind conditions between the buildings in Beika city. Amuro locates the delivery truck in his repaired [[Vehicles_in_Detective_Conan#Amuro.27s_Mazda_RX-7|Mazda RX-7]]. The Black Organization agent decides to pretend like he came by chance instead of decoding the message on the receipt, and asks the two delivery men to make way because the street is narrow. When the kids see him and cry for help, Amuro, playing dumb, asks why they are in that truck. One of the murderers then orders Amuro to get in the truck by threatening the safety of the children. Amuro immediately punches the man's chest so hard that he coughs up blood. The remaining kidnapper backs down and Amuro ties him up and tells Conan to call the police. The children then reveal that they are outside of Agasa's house, which Amuro takes interest in. Haibara manages to stay behind the other kids and goes unnoticed by Amuro, and Okiya watches the unfolding scene from Shinichi's house's window.

Amuro seems to respect [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]]'s intelligence and also seems to look out for Conan as well. Before knowing he was Bourbon, Conan was generically friendly towards Amuro. Amuro first meets [[Masumi Sera|Sera]] when Conan gets kidnapped. After both of them save Conan, he becomes very surprised to see her and wonders why is she here. Next day, he does not have any work. Amuro sees Sera again after the previous case, and notices that she looks similiar to Shuichi Akai. To confirm his theory, Amuro once again disguised himself as [[Scar Akai]] to gauge her reaction. Suddenly, Sera sees him in the crowd ahead and just like Jodie and Camel before her, Sera becomes just as shocked by his appearance. She runs after him, but he disappears before she can catch him. Ran wonders who Sera was chasing, but Sera replies she thought it was someone she knew. Sera silently appends in her mind that it would be impossible for the man she was chasing to be the person she thinks it was. While Amuro watches her from a little ahead, confirming his suspicion that Sera is related to Akai.

Subaru Okiya is a graduate student attending Tohto University to earn a doctorate degree in engineering. He originally lived at a boarding house, where the landlord's son nicknamed him "Red Man," after a firetruck, because he frequently saw him watering the plants. After the boarding house burned down in the [[Red, White, Yellow, and the Detective Boys|Red, White, and Yellow Arson Case]], [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] suggested he move into [[Shinichi Kudo|Shinichi]]'s house, explaining to Agasa and [[Ai Haibara|Haibara]] that someone living in the house would help to hide his (Shinichi's) disappearance. When Haibara protested, Conan cheerfully responded that someone who loves Sherlock Holmes cannot be a bad person - much to Haibara's consternation.<ref name=Neighbor>Manga [[Volume 60]] File 5: The New Neighbor</ref> Nevertheless, Conan decided to keep from Subaru which persons - specifically [[Ran Mouri|Ran]] - were closely connected to Shinichi.<ref>Manga [[Volume 60]] File 638 - Paper Airplane</ref>

Okiya is generally shown to be quiet and reserved, often seeming unfazed by normally stressful situations, such as when Ran attacked him while he was brushing his teeth, believing he had broken into Shinichi's house<ref>Manga [[Volume 61]] File 8: Paper Airplane</ref>, or when a murderer grabbed Ayumi as a hostage.<ref name=Speech>Manga [[Volume 64]] File 3: Thirst for Blood</ref> He often tends to behave in a friendly and modest manner, smiling and rubbing the back of his head whenever someone compliments him or says anything about him. He enjoys cooking and seems ready and willing to help with various tasks. He doesn't mind interacting with the [[Detective Boys]], is always polite to them, and listens to their theories during cases. He is often shown drinking bourbon whiskey.

Okiya becomes more serious while working on cases and enjoys revealing the truth to others similar to Conan. Sometimes he speaks mysteriously, leaving the meaning and intentions of what he said open to interpretation. Okiya has a more menacing side seen whenever he takes to the offensive or is intently focusing on something. In this frame of mind, Okiya triggers Haibara's Black Organization sense.

== Plot overview ==
===Red, white, and yellow arson case (Manga: [[Volume 60#Red, White, and Yellow Case|622-624]], Anime: [[Red, White, Yellow, and the Detective Boys|509]]-[[Conan vs. Double Code Mystery|510]])===

After school, [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] receives a phone call from [[Jodie Starling|Jodie]] who tells him that the Black Organization has activated a new member codenamed [[Tooru Amuro|Bourbon]]. Meanwhile, the [[Detective Boys]] receive a request from their classmate, Kaito Suigiura, to investigate the actions of a strange man at his father's apartment building which is close to [[Shinichi Kudo|Shinichi]] and [[Hiroshi Agasa|Agasa]]'s house.<ref>Based on the Japanese address system, the houses are very close. Okiya's previous apartment was at Beika city district 2 #23A. Agasa's address is Beika city district 2 #22. Shinichi's house address is Beika city district 2 21B. Basically, Okiya's apartment is going to be across in the adjacent block of houses across a little street. The Okiya's apt isn't marked on [http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/images/8/8d/Conandrillmap.jpg the map of Beika city], but it should be on the same chunk of buildings that Shinichi's and Agasa's house are (i.e. not separated by a major road as that would change the city district number i.e Mouri agency is city district 5).</ref> The next day the Detective Boys find that the apartment has been burned down. Subaru Okiya first appeared as one of the suspects in this arson case. When [[Inspector Yuminaga]] introduces the detective boys to the suspects, Okiya gives [[Ai Haibara]] the chills which she only gets from those who have been in the Black Organization, although she isn't sure who is responsible at the time and the feeling of pressure unexpectedly disappears.

The revelation that Kaito Suigiura's diary describes a suspicious "yellow" tenant who had argued with the landlord the night the apartment was burnt down leads to the police to question the three suspects about their alibis at the time of the arson as well as their favorite color. Subaru Okiya's alibi was that he was driving alone that night long the verdant Teimuzu river to clear his head after submitting a paper to his professor. Although he likes the greenery of plants, Okiya declared that his favorite is black, "because it covers things inside me that I don't want known", although he hates the color for the same reason.

Conan and Subaru Okiya seem to hit it off when Okiya recognizes Conan quote a line from Sir AC Doyle's "The Adventure of the Copper Beeches". After Conan solves the case, Okiya asks to meet Professor Agasa. After introducing himself, Okiya asks Professor Agasa if he could stay for at his house until he finds another place to live, offering to help Agasa with his research in the spare time. Agasa consents, as long as Haibara also agrees, but Haibara strongly refuses. Conan chimes in offering Shinichi's house, saying that Shinichi has gone missing all of a sudden and Conan will tell Shinichi later that Okiya moved in. Conan overrules Haibara's concerns that the Org may find out through Okiya that Shinichi is still alive by simply saying, "A Holmes fan can't be a bad person!" Conan gives Okiya the key along with the request to take care of the place while he (Shinichi) is gone and Okiya agrees.

===Sports Car Arson Case (Manga: [[Volume 61#Sports Car Arson Case|635-637]], Anime: [[The Blue Spark of Hate|524-525]])===
Conan and Agasa are quick to view Okiya as a resource, seen in the Rolls Royce explosion case where Agasa suggests calling Okiya to bring gasoline when his beetle runs out in a remote location, and later in the same case where Conan secretly asks for his help to set up a trap to trick the culprit into confessing. Okiya secretly watches Conan's plan to trick the culprit into confessing in action.

===Paper airplane case (Manga: [[Volume 61#Paper Airplane Case|638-640]], Anime: [[Conan vs. Double Code Mystery|510]]-[[Deduction Showdown! Shinichi vs. Subaru Okiya|511]])===

Ran and Sonoko visit Shinichi's house to clean up unaware that Okiya is living there, and they confront him thinking he is a thief. Okiya fails to explain fast enough and winds up on the receiving end of Ran's karate kick. Conan calls Ran to explain that Okiya has been living in the house after the fire and warns her not to talk about Shinichi in front of him. After the two girls apologize, Okiya correctly deduces they had been to "Welcome Burger" earlier. Okiya makes a strong impression on Sonoko, while Ran thinks "he looks like someone" and she had met him before.

Sonoko then concocts a deduction battle between Okiya and Shinichi to see who can solve the mystery of the paper airplane first. Shinichi and Subaru prove to be equally skilled although neither know they are competing against one another. During the detective showdown, Okiya overhears Sonoko talking about Shinichi's deductions and asks this Shinichi is also the landlord of the house. Ran, thinking of Conan's warning not to talk about Shinichi to Okiya, interrupts Sonoko to say they are consulting one "Kinichi" and that the landlord Shinichi has no special deduction ability. Okiya easily sees through the lie and reveals he had looked around the house but found no personally identifying items. Sonoko and Ran leave to find another paper airplane and Okiya is left to ponder over the landlord.

The deduction battle continues with Okiya and Conan matching each others' deductions perfectly. With the case solved, Okiya suggests that he will leave calling the police up to Ran and Sonoko because they have police acquaintances, revealing he knows something of the backgrounds of the girls and their connections. When the pair leaves, Okiya celebrates the successful resolution of the case with a Sherlock Holmes story and a glass of bourbon.

===Ikkaku rock (Manga: [[Volume 64#Ikkaku Rock Case|664-666]], Anime: [[Ikkaku Rock's Disappearing Fish|542-543]])===

Okiya's next appearance occurs when he comes at the request of Professor Agasa to pick up the Detective Boys who had gone fishing. Haibara is again suspicious of him, but Conan brushes her feelings aside. Okiya stops Haibara from slipping and offers to cook the Detective Boys' fish. When the Detective Boys stop at an island called Ikkaku Rock, Okiya Subaru takes a group photo. The gang stumble into a dead woman who appeared to have gotten lost and died on accident, but Okiya and Conan quickly recognize that she was deliberately abandoned to die. When Inspector [[Jugo Yokomizo]] tried to prevent the Detective Boys from questioning the suspects, Okiya stepped in, pointing out that sometimes a child's perspective can be the hint that unlocks the truth and, "Weren't there a number of cases that were solved as a result of some hint from these children?" revealing he knows about the Detective Boys' many prior successes.<ref name=665p13>Manga Volume 64, File 2, pg 13: "Mackerel, Carp, Sea Bream, Flounder"</ref> Indeed, with such a hint from Mitsuhiko and Haibara, Conan and Okiya simultaneously realize who the culprit is. After they took turns explaining the case, the culprit pulled out a knife and grabbed [[Ayumi Yoshida]] as a hostage. Conan didn't have any gadgets to help him. At that moment, Haibara felt a menacing aura from Okiya, and he slowly approached the criminal, saying he couldn't escape and even if he did, could he bear the pressure and loneliness of hiding in fear of someone uncovering his identity? The provoked criminal removed the knife from Ayumi's neck and lunged at Okiya. In one effortless movement, Okiya knocked the criminal's knife away and took Ayumi from his grasp. Despite his rescue, the malicious pressure Okiya emitted and his words left a strong impression on Haibara who is certain he is one of the Black Organization members.
Note: In the anime version, an extra scene has been added, in which Okiya is seen reading books under the moonlight while drinking a glass of bourbon and smiling. The scene ends with Haibara wathing the Kudo House from Agasa´s with a preoccupied expression.

===A Dangerous Couple (Manga: [[Volume 65#Dangerous Couple Case|680]], Anime: [[A Dangerous Party of Two|557]])===
Later, Haibara, who had gone with Professor Agasa on a trip because she did not want to be alone while Okiya was around, demanded that Conan find some excuse to kick Okiya out of Shinichi's house. She explained to Conan that she thinks Conan is keeping him around and using her as bait in order to spy on him. Conan replies that he thinks Okiya is a good man and as for using Haibara as bait, "I-Idiot, you think I would do that!?"<ref name=680p5>Manga Volume 65, File 6, pg 5: "A Dangerous Couple"</ref>

Conan calls Agasa and finds out he invited Subaru Okiya over to cook because Haibara was out. Agasa says Okiya is a pretty good cook.

===Thirteen Red Shirts Case (Manga: [[Volume 67#Department Store Bomber Case|700-704]], Anime: [[The Crisis Beckoned by the Red Omen|578]]-[[The Red Shaking Target|581]])===

[[Jodie Starling]] visits the [[Setting#Beika Department Store|Beika Department Store]], the origin of [[Scar Akai]]'s cap, to look for clues about him. Okiya follows her there. Subaru Okiya, along with Scar Akai and Conan, is then trapped on one of the department store floors by a bomber demanding to find the sender of thirteen red shirts. Meanwhile the [[Black Organization]] has heard that someone who looks like Akai appeared at the department store. [[Gin]] and [[Vodka]] park outside the department store with the snipers [[Chianti]] and [[Korn]] to wait for Scar Akai.

Back on the bombed floor, Subaru Okiya takes an interest in the red shirts case. He solves the flag semaphore message and deduces it has to do with an incident in the mountains. Okiya then sees Scar Akai in the crowd and ducks away before scar Akai could spot him, and smiles mysteriously. Okiya goes to the windows out front and spies [[Gin]]'s Porsche and [[Chianti]] who has set up in a hotel across the street.

Conan tranquilizes [[Kogoro Mouri]] to begin his deduction show just as Kogoro receives an anonymous text message containing a mostly complete solution to the case from Scar Akai. After the case is over, [[Andre Camel]] reveals to Jodie the Black Organization are waiting outside with a sniper. Jodie rushes after scar Akai to stop him from being killed, but is prevented from reaching him by Okiya who knocks her over.

To prevent Scar Akai from being shot, Conan stirs the crowd up by lying that the store is giving out 10,000 yen gift cards. Okiya confronts Conan, who is surprised to see him, and introduces himself to Kogoro Mouri. He reveals that he was trapped on the bombed floor and tells Conan he was in the area because he visited the [[Scar Akai#Teito Bank Heist|Teito bank]] and followed Conan when he saw Conan enter the Beika Dept store. He leaves Conan with the mysterious quote:

===Communications Code (Manga: [[Volume 72|755]], Anime: [[Emergency Situation 252|623]])===

Okiya comes to rescue Conan and the Detective Boys who had been trapped by kidnappers in a building. Okiya thought they had encountered trouble when he noticed that no lights came on at Agasa's house after dark, and when he went over to inspect, the front door was unlocked, nobody was there, and two suspicious phone calls arrived. Okiya uses a spare pair of Conan's tracking glasses in order to find the Detective Boys, proving he knows about the function of Conan's tracking glasses and that they lock onto the detective badges.<ref name=755p14>Chapter 755 page 14: Communications Code</ref> Conan has never used the tracking glasses in front of Okiya before. Okiya Knocks Out one of the kidnappers, but tells the Detective Boys that the robber fell down the stairs. When Haibara questions why he had been paying so much attention to Agasa's house, Okiya tells her he wanted to give them some extra curry he had made for lunch.

===Ayumi Kidnapping Case (Manga: [[Volume 74|775-776]], Anime: [[The Professor's Video Site|656-657]])===
[[Masumi Sera]] stops [[Genta]] and [[Mitsuhiko]] outside of Agasa's house to ask them if they are acquaintances of Professor Agasa's. The topic of [[Shinichi]] comes up when she talks to the two detective boys about the [[Masumi_Sera#Kogoro_Detective_Agency_Hostage_Crisis_.28Manga_771-774.29|prior hostage case]]. Sera asks who is living in the Kudo house now because she saw the curtains shift slightly. The detective boys tell her that Subaru Okiya has been staying there since his apartment burnt down.

Sera cryptically comments with a smirk on her face, "And here I thought that someone had just settled in without permission...But it seems I was just getting worked up over nothing..." while looking up at where Okiya Subaru is hiding and secretly observing the conversation.

Later, after Genta ruins Agasa's curry, Okiya secretly follows the detective boys on an errand to buy new ingredients. He tails the detective boys rather closely; Haibara, who is wearing a hat, seems determined not to acknowledge his presence. He stops and looks over his shoulder to watch a car that parked on a side street. The car pulls out of sight and Okiya turns away and continues on, but soon enough car reverses back into its former position. Okiya is later seen in the grocery store, and he worriedly watches Conan and Haibara dash out of the grocery store after hearing that Sera saw Haibara's reflection in Agasa's glasses in an online video. Okiya follows the detective boys back and listens into Conan's conversation at Agasa's via an earpiece while watching on the professor's house from one of the Kudo household's upper story windows.

=== Murder at Mouri Detective Agency (Manga: [[Volume 76|798-800]], Anime: [[Detectives' Nocturne|672-674]])===

Okiya appears at Haibara and Agasa's house and goes with them in [[Vehicles#Subaru 360|his car]] to save Conan who had been kidnapped. During the chase, Okiya uses the phrase "Don't make that kind of face", to reassure Haibara that he will definitely catch up to Conan. When he pulls up behind the suspect's car, he leans out the driver's side and puts his hand in his jacket, likely to pull out a handgun to shoot out the suspect's tires. Okiya aborts this plan when [[Tooru Amuro]] pulls up alongside him and they look at one another. Amuro and [[Sera]] successfully stop the kidnapper and Okiya drives away without lingering at the scene.

===Don't make that kind of face (Manga: [[Volume 76|802]], Anime: [[Won't Forgive One Millimeter|675]])===
In chapter 802, Haibara hears the same "Don't make that kind of face" phrase from Conan, causing her to remember both the statement that Okiya made in chapter 800, and Akai making the same statement while under the Dai Moroboshi persona about protecting her sister. After this Haibara begins referring to Okiya using his given name "Subaru".

===Ski trip delay (Manga: [[Volume 77|809-811]], Anime: [[Froth, Steam, and Smoke|684-685]])===
Haibara and Conan are late for a ski trip with professor Agasa and the detective boys because Haibara forgot something at Agasa's house. Unable to rouse the drunk sleeping Kogoro into getting a rental car, Haibara suggests calling Okiya for a ride. Conan is surprised at Haibara's change of heart regarding Okiya. On the way to the ski site, Okiya suggests he might join in because he feels he has been getting out of shape. Haibara directly questions Okiya about why he needs to stay in shape. Okiya comments, "Well, in a way... I ''do'' want to look good for the ladies." A murder case happens, interrupting the trip. After Conan runs off to question the suspects with Takagi, Subaru examines the body and gives his thoughts. Haibara suggests that he is rather knowledgeable about murders. Okiya gently corrects her, saying his interest is derived from his love of Holmes, and that he likes solving puzzles.

While the case suspects are being questioned by the Police, Haibara is waiting outside together with Okiya in front of the Police Headquarters. She mentions that this is "the first time" that she's alone with him. Okiya suggests that they should move to the parking lot and wait inside the car. However, Haibara doesn't seem to like the idea, and sarcastically answers that he can force her to come along with him if that's what he wants. Okiya doesn't do so, because of an unknown promise he made with ''"her"''.

The sky has turned dark. Okiya takes a nap inside his car. Haibara decides to take advantage of this moment and secretly tries to remove his scarf. However, Okiya has waken up and stops her from doing so. He explained: "Beyond here is my area... and not your territory... Adults get cold... They're not outdoor creatures, after all..."

===Yusaku Kudo's Cold Case (Manga: [[Volume 77|812-814]], Anime: [[Yusaku Kudo's Cold Case‎|690]]-[[Yusaku Kudo's Cold Case‎|691]] )===

Ran, Sonoko, and Sera go to Shinichi's house to find pictures of a ten year old crime scene similar to a case they just stumbled upon earlier. Sera enters the bathroom looking for Conan and encounters Subaru brushing his teeth with his neck uncovered. Sera becomes suspicious of him. She also wonders if he has invited a woman over when she finds a woman's hair tie. While the three girls are trying to solve the case, they decide to call Shinichi, and Conan is obligated to go to the bathroom and take the call. Subaru notices this and realizes he is going to play the Shinichi Kudo role. Rather than disturbing him, Subaru sends a message to Shinichi via Ran, telling him the name "Kumogakure Saizou", a clue to solve the case. After revealing the truth, Conan runs out from the bathroom, but he does not realize that Subaru had been watching him. Subaru points out Conan left his bowtie on his cellphone and then teases him by pretending to address Conan as Shinichi Kudo before suddenly switching topics.

===Cabin Trap (Manga: [[Volume 77|817]], Anime: TBD)===
When Amuro sneaks into the Mouri Detective Agency to illicitly view the material Kogoro's clients have sent him, which includes a video of [[Shiho Miyano]] sent by [[Mitsuhiko]], Amuro notices someone hacking Kogoro's computer. After Amuro notices this, there is a cut to Shinichi Kudo's house showing Okiya sitting by three monitors with a glass of bourbon and an ashtray full of cigarettes.

===Bell Tree Express Mystery (Manga: [[Volume 78|820-824]], Anime: TBD)===

It is revealed that Vermouth and Bourbon are on the train, and that they have located Sherry and notified Gin and Vodka about this. Subaru is seen in a room with a woman who looks like Vermouth, but the top part of her face is hidden by her hat. Haibara receives a text message from Vermouth asking, "Are you ready?" Haibara locks herself in her bathroom and prepares to take the drug, presumably to turn herself into Sherry to protect her alternate identity. However, before she can consume the drug, Subaru enters, states "Just as expected of sisters, I can read all your moves." He is holding up a cell phone as he speaks, "Now, can I have you step this way...into our area?" However Haibara quickly runs past him, trying to escape. Later, Subaru is shown setting an unconscious Sera on the sofa of the train, smiling as she unconsciously mutters the words "Shuu-nii". At the end of chapter 824, Subaru is seen putting on his glasses while observing Vermouth and Bourbon. His eyes are open and his eyes are identical to Shuichi Akai's.

===Delivery Service (Manga: [[Volume 80|843]], Anime: TBD)===
The Detective Boys become trapped in a refrigerated delivery truck with a cat, a dead body, and two murderous workers. Unable to call for help and out of other options, Conan decides to try to get a message to Amuro using the cat and a doctored receipt. The receipt blew away before he could see the message, delaying Amuro who had to search for it. A while later when it appears like the Black Organization agent won't be coming to rescue them, Conan checks the packages for electronics they could try to use and unexpectedly finds a cake intended for Professor Agasa. He changes the address to direct the parcel to Kudo's house knowing that Okiya will deduce the situation and provide help. Okiya then gives the unwitting murderers a package containing a phone to deliver. Amuro finally locates the truck and comes to the rescue, so Okiya's phone is only used to call the police. Okiya watches the rescue unfold from the Kudo house window.

==Relationships analysis==


===Conan Edogawa===
[[Conan]] trusts Okiya for the most part, and they maintain an amicable relationship. Conan easily lends Okiya the keys to his house.<ref name=Neighbor>Manga [[Volume 60]] File 5: The New Neighbor</ref> Conan also trusts Okiya to help in cases that put him in close contact with both [[Ai Haibara]] and him, like switching out the gasoline in a container for water to solve a case,<ref name=Crackle>Manga Volume 61 File 7: Crackle</ref> or calling him to pick up everyone when [[Hiroshi Agasa|Agasa]]’s car broke down.<ref name=Burn>Manga Volume 61 File 5: Burn</ref> Okiya respects Conan and his intelligence and they both can solve cases at about the same level. Conan tells Haibara he is trustworthy because he is a fellow [[Sherlock Holmes]] fan, much to her annoyance. Subaru is one of the few [[List of characters who know Conan's identity|characters who knows Conan is Shinichi]] after confirming [[Conan vs. Double Code Mystery|his earlier suspicions]] by [[Volume_77#Cold_Case|listening to Conan]] make a phone call as Shinichi.

===Hiroshi Agasa===
Okiya and [[Hiroshi Agasa|Agasa]] maintain a good relationship with one another. The professor often asks him for favors, like picking the detective boys up from a fishing trip. Agasa also lets Okiya come over and cook from time to time and he will make Agasa food to return the favor, like stir-fried onions and curry. Agasa also seems well informed about when Okiya has free time and is available for favors or when he is on the road.

===Ai Haibara===
[[Ai Haibara]] doesn't trust Okiya because he gives her the chills which she only gets from those who have been in the Black Organization. She hides from him behind Conan when they meet in person and avoids being alone in Agasa's house when he is around. On his part, Okiya is kind to Haibara and seems to look out for her.

Haibara's opinion changes, however, in File 800 after Okiya consoles her when Conan is being abducted by a culprit in a crime. It is revealed afterwards that this is because what he said was similar to what Shuichi Akai had once told her when he was the lover of Haibara's sister, [[Akemi Miyano]]. Because of this, Haibara gains trust in Okiya and starts calling him by his first name.<ref> Chapters 800-803:When Objects Collide </ref>

===Tooru Amuro===
They have not directly met, though Okiya has seen Tooru Amuro many times. In most instances, Okiya is the one to notice Amuro but avoids Amuro seeing him for some reason. During the thirteen red shirts case, both Okiya and Amuro (as [[Scar Akai]]) are present with the hostages. When Okiya is about to send his deductions about the bomber's identity to Kogoro's phone, He sees Amuro, and before Amuro can see him, disappears from the area. During the Conan Edogawa kidnapping case, Subaru leans out the door to shoot at the tires of the car Conan's in, but Amuro's car passes by him, prompting Okiya to close the door to avoid Amuro. At the end of the Bell Train Mystery arc, Okiya is shown observing Amuro and Vermouth from a distance with a smirk, opening one of his eyes which looks like Akai's and giving a strong hint that he is Akai. If it is true then based on what has been said about Akai and Amuro's relation, it's likely he sees Amuro as an enemy, though not to the extent that Amuro views him.

===Masumi Sera===
[[Masumi Sera]] is Shuichi Akai's younger sister. To avoid disclosing his identity, Okiya tried to avoid acting conspicuously in front of her.

Shuichi Akai could have heard about the glasses in several ways. The first source is when [[James Black]] was kidnapped while he had [[Ayumi Yoshida|Ayumi]]'s detective badge. The true identity and gender of the boss is still unknown, with only a few insignificant facts about them revealed in the manga's 19 year (and counting) run. The boss appears to be the highest authority in the Black Organization. == Personality ==
Little is known about boss's personality. The boss appears to be fairly ruthless, willing to dispatch senior agents who have been loyal to the Black Organization for many years for a single mistake. The boss is also described as overly cautious by Vermouth. Somehow, the boss can maintain loyalty and unity in Black Organization's codenamed ranks despite many agents disliking or even outright wishing to murder certain others. The boss is known to give permission to agents who wish to pursue certain missions, such as Bourbon and Vermouth's plan to make sure Akai was truly dead.

The boss appears to be especially close to Vermouth who is described as "that person's favorite", much to the chagrin of her enemies and those who mistrust her. The boss is also close to Gin, who often acts as an intermediary between the boss and other agents. Gin usually takes the lead planning role in assassinations that the boss has ordered.

While the boss is likely highly intelligent, the boss has had several clear failures so far. Shuichi Akai and Hidemi Hondou were both given a codename by the boss despite being spies, and Akai successfully fooled the boss into thinking he was killed. While most agents follow the boss's orders, some agents have acted contrary to the wishes of "that person". A plan that was intended to create an "acceptable reason" to eliminate [[Akemi Miyano]] backfired badly when Akemi's ability was underestimated. As a consequence, the lead researcher for the [[APTX 4869]] project, [[Shiho Miyano]], ultimately defected and escaped. The boss has also unintentionally allowed Vermouth to undermine the Organization by protecting someone she thinks is especially dangerous: [[Conan Edogawa]].

In [[Clash of Red and Black]], [[James Black]] explained to Conan that capturing a high ranking member of the Black Organization who could lead them to the boss was the goal of [[Shuichi Akai]]'s spy mission. After three years of infiltration, the boss gave the undercover FBI agent the codename "Rye" and ordered him to work under Gin. The FBI's plan to capture Gin fell apart when Akai's true allegiance was uncovered. In the two years since the mission failure, the boss came to regard Akai as a "[[Silver Bullet]]" - someone who is especially dangerous to the Black Organization.

Prior to this confrontation with the Black Organization, it was unclear who or what authority commanded the codenamed agents of the Black Organization seen so far. [[Gin]]'s discussion with [[Pisco]] about the planned murder of Shigehiko Nomiguchi revealed to Conan the existence of an authority figure referred to as "ano kata". Gin relayed ''that person's'' orders to Pisco: silence the politician Shigehiko Nomiguchi who was going to be arrested for bribery and use APTX 4869 if it was necessary. Pisco's act of murder was accidentally caught on camera, so the boss ordered Gin to kill Pisco.

Vermouth had secretly been executing a plan to kill Sherry without the Black Organization's knowledge. Someone discovered that Vermouth was up to something and Gin and Vodka were ordered to investigate an off-season Halloween party aboard a ship. Before Vodka was sent aboard the ship in disguise, Gin told him "not to hold back" even though Vermouth was "that person's favorite" and they had not been granted permission to kill her. At the party, a man that Vermouth blackmailed to murder a director began screaming someone called "Vermouth" was to blame.<ref>Manga Volume 42, File 9 (433), pg 4: "The truth behind the mask"</ref> Later, the boss sent a message to Vermouth's phone informing her that her freedom was now being restricted and she was to return.

When Vermouth replied back, Conan noticed the sound of the keypresses of the boss's phone number sounded familiar. Conan later uncovers that the keypresses of the boss's phone number sounds like the beginning of the children's song [[Nanatsu no ko]], and Conan deduces the boss's phone number is #969#6261. Haibara warns Conan of the danger of calling it, likening it to Pandora's box.

=== Assassination attempts on Yasuteru Domon and Kogoro Mouri (Manga: [[Volume 48|499]]-[[Volume 49|504]]; Anime: [[Episode 425|425]]) ===
The boss orders the assassination of Yasuteru Domon, who is a politician hard on crime. The FBI believed the boss was hoping to nip a potential obstacle in the bud because Domon may have a chance of becoming the next Prime Minister. When Gin discovers that the agent [[Rena Mizunashi]], aka [[Kir]], has been captured and a tracking device planted on her clothing, he asks the boss for permission to kill the last person to stay at her house: [[Kogoro Mouri]]. The boss grants Gin permission to leave Domon and target Kogoro. The assassination fails because of Akai's interference. Akai's attack made it appear that it was really the FBI who captured Kir and planted the tracking device. Domon coincidentally gives up running for office as well, making assassinating him unnecessary.

While the Black Organization searches for Kir who is in FBI custody, [[Chianti]] asks why Rena Mizunashi was promoted in the first place.<ref name="553p24">manga [[Volume 53]], File 10 (553), pgs 2-4: "The Mysterious Job"</ref> Gin reveals that it was because she had uncovered a spy and confronted him. The spy, [[Ethan Hondou]], overpowered and tortured her for information, but Rena remained silent. Although completely crippled, Rena bit Ethan's wrist to force him to drop his gun, and then killed him. The bite marks and Ethan's recording device coincided with her story, so the boss promoted her to the codename Kir in recognition of her loyalty and sheer savageness.

In truth, the boss had been fooled. Ethan Hondou was Kir's father and they both are CIA spies infiltrating the Black Organization. Rena had made a mistake and was about to be uncovered as a spy. Ethan, who had prepared appropriately ahead of time in case this happened, told Rena to tell the Organization she discovered he was a spy and tried to confront him. Ethan then committed suicide after maiming himself and his daughter to make it appear like the story Ethan had just explained.

After the Black Organization retrieved Kir from the FBI, Gin is suspicious of how ineffective the FBI's plan was and that Akai didn't make a strong move. Gin thinks Akai is still hiding something and that doubt is relayed to the boss who concurs. The boss and Gin plan a test of Kir's loyalty. Meanwhile, [[Andre Camel|an FBI agent]] becomes a suspect in a coincidental murder case. The Black Organization hears about it, and taking advantage of the FBI's distraction, Gin calls out Kir and tells her the boss's order. To regain the boss's trust, she is to call Akai out to meet with her and kill him. Kir meets with Akai at Raiha Pass and apparently kills him.

The number is #969#6261, which was purposefully made non-functional by Gosho Aoyama to prevent prank calls. *The Black Organization uses clever codenames, passwords, etc. based on mysteries and history. If the boss is behind the naming scheme then perhaps the boss has an interest in detectives and mysteries.
* The operatives dress in black, which [[Akemi Miyano]] says is supposed to resemble crows. This is probably an expression of the boss’s dress code preferences and may be symbolic. The boss may use the crow themed phone number Nanatsu no ko for the same reason.
*If the FBI's assessment of the boss is correct, the boss is a forward thinker. Masumi Sera is a high school detective and skilled at Jeet Kune Do, the martial art founded by Bruce Lee. She can fight in the same level as [[Ran Mouri|Ran]]. She transfers to Ran and [[Sonoko Suzuki|Sonoko]]'s class at Teitan High. Since three years ago, she'd been living in America with her parents, presumably due to Akai infiltrating the [[Black Organization]]. She claims she'd rather live in Japan where she was born and raised, so she came to Tokyo and is currently living in a hotel.

==Personality==
Sera has a cheery, sociable, boyish personality<ref>Manga Volume 73, File 9, Page 3, "Let's hear your brilliant deduction!"</ref> and is well liked by her classmates at Teitan High. On their first meeting, Sera fails to correct Sonoko's mistaken impression that she is a man and even makes it worse by declaring that Ran is "[her] type".<ref name=pronouns>The Japanese pronoun used is gender neutral and can refer to either males or females.</ref> Her rather boyish appearance - especially in relation with her flat chest - is a bit of a touchy subject to Sera, who claims that her mother's bust size is rather well developed and keeps expressing her hope that someday her own chest size will similarly change for her.

Sera is quite quick-minded, coming up with clever plans and adapting them to sudden changes rapidly. Sera seems to be prone to dramatics like most detectives are, but perhaps to a lesser degree than [[Shinichi]] or [[Heiji]] as she bluntly says who the criminal is without preamble. On the other hand, Sera is tough to the point that she is willing to risk all to achieve a successful conclusion of a case. In one instance, she purposefully lured a hostage-taker into a sniper's sight with a smile, hoping he would be shot without showing any apprehension about his possible demise.

Although she has crime scene experience<ref name=769p3>Manga Volume 73, File 7, pg 3: "A Detective Just Like You, Little Boy"</ref>, Sera seems to be less skilled as a detective than Conan, apparently missing a critical clue that was necessary to understand how the murderer's setup worked, although Conan opines that Sera purposely made an error in order to test him. In some degree, she seems to like rivalry or contests to see who is the winner.

Sera first met [[Sonoko]], [[Ran]], and [[Conan]] on a bus after she was mistaken for a [[Wikipedia:Chikan|groper]]. After Sonoko declared Sera was the groper, Sera and Ran got into a fight, with Sera's Jeet Kune Do holding even against Ran's karate. Conan and Sera cleared up the misunderstanding by pointing out the real groper. Sonoko then mistook Sera for a boy, an impression which wasn't helped by Sera declaring that Ran was "his type".<ref name=pronouns/> Sera and Ran both discovered they were heading to the same hotel, about which Conan is less than pleased.

Sera finds out the hotel she is staying at doesn't have a room available and complains at the front desk. A man then falls into the parking lot and dies. Conan runs to the source of screaming while Sera told the guard to watch the elevators before running to the roof. She immediately declares the crime to be a murder, giving her reasoning. She then reveals her name, Sera, that she is a detective, and knows Conan is a detective as well.

[[Inspector Megure]] is not pleased to have another high school detective underfoot but lets Sera and Conan investigate regardless. After listening to the suspect testimony, police observations, and examining the crime scene, Sera announces that she has solved the case.

However, Sera's deduction leaves out a critical detail; Conan is therefore forced to use Shinichi's phone to call his own, give Inspector Megure Conan's phone, and speak through Shinichi's as Shinichi using the voice-changer bow tie. Shinichi figures out the detail that had Sera stumped, although a look she gives Conan as he runs off suggests her omission was possibly intentional, and once during the phone conversation she tries to trick Shinichi into admitting that he is physically present at the crime scene instead of being explained the details by Conan and Megure.

The following day, Sera transfers to Teitan High School, surprising both Ran and Sonoko. She was rather popular at school surrounded by students asking her questions about herself.

According to Sonoko, Sera has become very popular at Teitan high for being "cheery, sociable, boyish, and cute...and on top of that, she is a jeet kun do-using female detective!"<ref>Manga Volume 73, File 9, Page 3, "Let's hear your brilliant deduction!"</ref> One classmate compares her to [[Shinichi Kudo]] who has been taking a break from school. Sera tells inquiring classmates that she has been staying in America with her parents since three years ago, but "rebelled" because she would rather live in her Japan where she was born and raised. She sneaks up behind Sonoko and Ran after school because she wanted to speak to Conan at the Mouri Detective Agency. At the agency, Sera is unhappy to hear that Conan and the rest of Detective Boys are staying at Agasa's house and will be camping the following day. She settles for asking Kogoro if Conan is always at his side when he solves cases, hinting that she suspects Conan is the real brains behind "Sleeping Kogoro".

Just as Sera is about to walk out the door, three female mystery writers and a man enter the agency. After a moment of confusion, the man suddenly fires a gun into the roof and takes the detective agency hostage. His demands are that Kogoro figure out which of the three writers killed his sister at a ryokan one month ago. The quick thinking Sera sidles up to Ran and tells her to go for the man's gun after she takes his legs out. Sera's leg sweep sends the man to the floor, and Ran removes the gun from the man's hand with a kick; however, Sera leaps back when the man reveals he has bombs strapped around his chest and will detonate them if they try to stop him.

Meanwhile at Agasa's, Haibara is angry that Conan used Shinichi's voice to solve a case around the suspicious Sera. Conan's response is that Sera is familiar somehow, like they have met before or she looks like someone, and Conan feels she isn't an enemy. Genta and Mitsuhiko told Conan they saw a high school student walking home with Ran, so the jealous Conan calls Ran's cellphone to hear about it from her.

The hostage taker man orders Ran to answer her phone, but Sera snatches the phone away and says hello to Conan (who is shocked that Sera is with Ran). Sera then tricks the hostage taker and keeps the line connected so Conan can listen in by closing Ran's [[Yaiba#Characters|Sea Cucumber Man]] cellphone strap in between the screen and keypad of the the flip phone.

====Nickname Rules (772)====
Sera asks a few insightful questions about the case; however the hostage taker man discovers Ran's phone is still connected. Under gunpoint, Sera steps in front of Ran and takes the blame, but Conan, using Shinichi's voice, says he ordered Ran to do it. Sera is mystified by why Shinichi is now on Conan's phone. Sera meanwhile spots a glint of light across from the detective agency and declares that the case will come to an end without Shinichi's help.

====Possible Sniping (773)====

Sera explains to Ran that she secretly kept the call to Conan connected so he could call the police and research into the case. While Sera is still surprised that Shinichi was on the other end of the line instead of Conan, she had initially hoped that Shinichi would somehow be able to talk down the would-be-murderer. She suspects that Shinichi has already figured which one of the suspects is the murderer in the ryokan case, but Shinichi is unable to reveal the truth because the hostage taker would then kill the named culprit and then himself. Sera's plan changed when she noticed the lights from the police snipers on the building across from Mouri Detective Agency. She explains to Ran in detail the names and functions of the various police divisions responsible for hostage situations, and tells Ran in a roundabout fashion that this situation will end with the hostage taker being killed by the police.

Sera launches a plan to bring the hostage taker into the snipers' range by telling him he should charge Ran's phone battery. Ran foils Sera's intentions by shutting the curtains, blocking the snipers' shot. To Sera's utter astonishment, Ran tells her that she doesn't want to see anyone die in front of her and declares that "Shinichi won't allow anyone to die. He absolutely wouldn't!"<ref>Volume 73, File 11, page 13, "Possible Sniping." Shinichi then begins to present his deductions over the phone and Sera wonders how he will manage to resolve this situation without bloodshed.</ref>

====The book with unturned pages (774)====
Sera and Ran take the opportunity to disable the hostage taker when he loses his composure and grip on the detonator after Shinichi tricks him into believing his sister committed suicide. Sera yells for the waiting bomb squad to secure the area. With the hostage taker arrested, Shinichi then reveals the true culprit. Sera realizes the mistake in her deduction and explains the correct timeline of events before the murder. Sometime soon after the conclusion of the case, Sera, walking with Ran and Sonoko speculates aloud that there must be some reason Shinichi left Agasa's before Ran could meet him there. She then exclaims that "due to what just happened, she really gets it", that Conan and Shinichi are on very good terms with one another, and that Ran "is tougher than Sera thought". Conan isn't sure what to make of these last comments.

Sera stops [[Genta]] and [[Mitsuhiko]] outside of [[Agasa]]'s house to ask them if they are acquaintances of Professor Agasa. The topic of [[Shinichi]] comes up when she talks to Mitsuhiko and Genta about the prior hostage case. Mitsuhiko mentions that [[Haibara]] told them to keep Shinichi's involvement secret. After asking about Haibara, Sera mentions that she saw Haibara in one of the professor's online videos. Next, Sera asks who is currently living in the Kudo house because she saw the curtains shift slightly. The Detective Boys tell her that [[Subaru Okiya]] has been staying there since his apartment burnt down. [[File:Ai image.png|thumb|right|Sera deletes Haibara's image]] Sera cryptically comments with a smirk on her face, "And here I thought that someone had just settled in without permission...But it seems I was just getting worked up over nothing..." while looking up at where Subaru Okiya is hiding.

At the end of the case, Sera is in her hotel room deleting various files. One of her deleted files was a still image from Agasa's video blown up to show Haibara reflected in Agasa's glasses. This indicates that she is not only keeping an eye on Conan but also on Haibara.
"Delete... Delete... For data, at least is an easy task to accomplish...", were her words while she was doing it.

===East vs. West Rematch (Manga: [[Volume_74#East_vs._West|778-780]], Anime: [[Conan vs. Heiji, Deduction Battle Between the Detectives of the East and West|651]])===

The case opens with Ran talking to Sera about [[Heiji Hattori]] who is stopping by for a visit. Sera is curious whether Heiji or Shinichi is the better detective. After Heiji is introduced to Sera, Kazuha then calls Heiji and tells her that she is stuck at a restaurant because someone died and a foreigner [[Andre Camel]] is keeping everyone from leaving. Sera proposes Heiji and Shinichi (via Conan's cellphone) have a deduction match. At the crime scene, Sera becomes curious about the foreigner, [[Andre Camel]] who secured the area. The police and Conan reveal Camel is an [[FBI]] agent and Sera takes interest. Meanwhile, Camel finds that Sera looks familiar, but can't quite place why. He takes a picture of her and mails it to [[Jodie]] and [[James Black]] who are waiting outside. Jodie and James Black think Sera resembles someone too, but only James Black correctly identified Sera as female.

Meanwhile Sera is busy helping with the case, asking questions and making comments about various deductions. Heiji nearly slips up with Conan's identity in front of her earning a pointed question from Sera, but Heiji rescues himself by saying he thinks of Conan as Kudo when Conan gets smug have hearing Shinichi's deductions over the phone. Sera doesn't seemed to be fooled though, her thoughts show that she seems to know Conan, not Shinichi, is the one solving the case while watching Conan come to his final conclusion.

===EYE (Manga: [[Volume_74#Eye_for_an_Eye|781]], Anime: [[The Design of Poison and Mirage|652]])===
Conan, Heiji, Sera, and the rest of the group return to the Mouri Detective Agency after the poisoning case at Danny's restaurant. Heiji reveals the case that brought him to Tokyo; he received a mysterious letter signed in the name of a person who was murdered in Karuizawa requesting an investigation. Sera takes an immediate interest in the case and wants to tag along, but Heiji refuses saying that the people he is visiting are only expected five people. Sera is peeved at being left behind.

Sera is walking with Conan, Ran and Sonoko. While they wonder why Kogoro has been coming home late, Sonoko thinks he's found himself a mistress. Sera thinks that he is just investigating a case. When an old lady named Takae Kiritani comes, she claims that Kogoro has been helping her. Sera asks what he does for her to which she replies that its small things like helping around the house. Sera isn't seen again for the rest of the case.

During a murder case at Mouri Detective Agency, after meeting Kogoro's new apprentice [[Tooru Amuro]], [[Megure]] comments that the number of detectives around Kogoro has increased again, referring to Sera. Amuro takes interest in Sera. Later, Kogoro and friends go over to a suspect's apartment. Sera calls Ran after hearing about the murder on the news because she is worried about her and Conan. The call has an usual amount of static which alerts Amuro that there are listening devices present. Amuro abruptly hangs up Ran's phone on Sera. Meanwhile, Conan intentionally gets himself kidnapped by the primary suspect. After Ran enables calling again, Sera calls back immediately and is very upset because she was worried something had happened to Ran. Ran tells her that Conan has been kidnapped, and details to Sera the murder at Kogoro's agency. In order to figure out where the kidnapper is headed, Kogoro and Amuro search the apartment and decide to go to the address of one of the other suspects.

Sera arrives at suspect's home on [[Cars|her motorcycle]], but just misses Kogoro and the gang leaving. She hears the elevator descending and rushes back downstairs in time to follow Amuro's [[Cars|car]]. Meanwhile, the culprit has been driving around with Conan while Haibara has been directing Okiya's car towards them using the criminal tracking glasses. Okiya catches up to the kidnapper and relays what the car looks like to Kogoro. Amuro sees the suspect's car heading in the opposite direction so he quickly wheels around after it. Sera, who has been following Amuro's car this whole time, u-turns after Amuro and continues chasing. Amuro gets in front of the suspect's car and stops it. The suspect gets out of the car holding Conan at gunpoint, but Sera drives up onto the roof of the car. She swings her motorcycle around so that the rear wheel slams into the woman's face knocking her unconscious. With tears of relief, Sera hugs Conan, happy he is safe. Amuro, Okiya, and [[Vermouth]] look on.

===Meeting with Scar Akai (Manga: [[Volume 76|801]], Anime: [[Won't Forgive One Millimeter|675]])===

Sera is walking with Sonoko and Ran, and Ran is talking by phone with Conan. Sera hears Haibara's voice in the background and becomes curious. She asks the two others what Haibara is like, and Sonoko says Haibara is like a woman in a child's body.

When Ran hangs up her cellphone, the topic switches over to Amuro. Sera says to Ran she wants to meet Amuro because she never got a really good look at him from the last case, but Sonoko thinks she wants to meet Conan. instead. Ran says Shinichi and Conan are big fans of Sherlock Holmes. Sera thinks about that she has known that for a long time.

Suddenly, Sera sees [[Scar Akai]] in the crowd ahead. She runs after him, but she can't catch him. Ran wonders who Sera was chasing, but Sera replies she thought it was someone she knew, and silently appends in her mind that it would be impossible for the man she was chasing to be the person she thinks it was.

===Yusaku Kudo's Cold Case (Manga: [[Volume 77|812-814]])===
Sera meets [[Subaru Okiya]] at Shinichi's house and she finds him suspicious. She began to think there is a woman at Kudo's house because there are a hair elastic, lipstick in a glass and a long hair in the sink trap. After that, all of them solved a case together that is similar to a case that Shinichi Kudo's father dropped out 10 years ago. It was revealed to be a theft case. Both Subaru and Sera had got more suspicious of Conan and the identity of Shinichi Kudo. At the end, when the criminals were knocked, she saw Ran and Conan and she thought she was a 'bad kid', after all.

===Cabin Trap (Manga: [[Volume 77|815-817]])===
She went camping when she meets Professor Agasa and Conan. The Detective Boys were lost. Sera and Conan found the two policemen finding the corpse. After she and Conan solved the case, she and Conan rushed towards the burning cabin. Conan and the Detective Boys were talking about how they got safe. Mitsuhiko pointed the way were their savior went. Sera then began to ask what kind of woman is their savior. She seemed to be surprised when she saw her on Mitsuhiko's cell phone.

Sera finally meets Haibara, and Haibara has a bad feeling about her (although it could have been due to Scar Akai spying on them from behind the door just then). Later when a murder occurs on the Bell Tree Express, she and Conan investigate. Sera takes a video recording of the suspects running so she can show it to the detective boys in order to ask them which one had the closest gait to the masked suspect from earlier, but she is intercepted first by Scar Akai in the hallway. She stops and angrily asks him who he is. Scar Akai simply replies that she hasn't changed, reveals his face to her, and refers to her by her first name, "Masumi". In her shock Sera calls him "Shuu-nii", signifying that Akai is Sera's older brother. She questions Scar Akai about what happened, saying that she heard he had died. Scar Akai then tasers her unconscious, stating that he was hoping for that response. Scar Akai later is revealed to be Vermouth in disguise, explaining why he attacked Sera.

Sera accompanies Conan, Ran, and Sonoko to the location of Kaitou Kid's next heist: a museum where the Blush Mermaid, a gem adhered to the shell of a turtle as a last ditch effort by a an Italian actress in an accident at sea to save her turtle by encouraging someone to rescue it. Before checking out the museum, Sera asks Ran if she saw a [[Scar Akai|strange man in black]] when she found the hat on the Belltree Express. After the group arrives at the room where the turtle is being held in a large aquarium, Inspector Nakamori pulls Sera's face to see if it is a mask worn by Kid. Annoyed by Nakamori's mistaken gender assumption and having her face pinched, Sera knees him in the privates ostensibly to prove he isn't Kid. Sera then runs off to the bathroom. Later, when Kid makes his move, Sera is one of many caught in his trap: the rug on the floor is pulled up by strings so that it pins everyone standing on it to the front of aquarium. As soon as the rug drops, everyone sees the tank is empty except for a card left by Kid. This leaves Conan and Sera quite dumbfounded as to how Kaitou Kid could have removed the turtle. Later, Conan reveals that Sera is really Kaitou Kid, and he had made a critical error in his acting by assuming Sera was a male. Kaitou Kid had locked the real Sera in the men's bathroom after knocking her out with a stun gun. Upon gaining consciousness, Sera escapes her bonds, rushes out of the bathroom, and gives a still disguised Kid a fierce kick to the face. After Kid escapes, Sera is relieved she recovered her hat, which she thinks is special because it somehow has the same feel as her brother Shuichi Akai's hat.

===Our Territory (Manga: 844-846)===
Conan, Ran, Sonoko, Kogoro and Sera go to a live cooking show. Conan wants to ask something important to Sera, but a murder gets in his way. While solving the case, Ran realises that Sera and her might have met each other before, since Ran thinks of waves in the beach each time Sera gets away. At the end of the case, Conan asks Sera if they had met each other before. Sera smiles and says she doesn´t know, but actually she thinks "Of course we have, but I can´t tell you until the time comes..."

Although, Scar Akai hid before she could find him, she told Ran that she had just seen "someone she knew". She then thinks there is no way it was possible, which would make sense if she thought Akai was dead. This implies she isn't Bourbon, since Bourbon believes he is the only one who can kill Akai and that Gin failed to do so, hence he wouldn't think that it was impossible to meet Akai again in the street.

Sera has an interest in Conan and Haibara. While her interest is suspicious, if Sera is Akai's sister, the interest may come from the pictures of Conan and Haibara that Akai took back during the Vermouth arc. It is standard procedure in the US to send the personal belongings of the dead back to their families. If Akai mixed these pictures in with his own things when he took them out of his truck before meeting with Kir, it's possible they were overlooked when the FBI sent Akai's things to his family. If Sera was interested in finding out how and why Akai died, she would begin by researching the people in those pictures and those connected with them in hopes of finding clues.

On their first meeting, Sera fails to correct Sonoko's mistaken impression that she is a man and even makes it worse by declaring that Ran is "[her] type".<ref name=pronouns>The Japanese pronoun used is gender neutral and can refer to either males or females.</ref> Her rather boyish appearance - especially in relation with her flat chest - is a bit of a touchy subject to Sera, who claims that her mother's bust size is rather well developed and keeps expressing her hope that someday her own chest size will similarly change for her.

Sera is quite quick-minded, coming up with clever plans and adapting them to sudden changes rapidly. Sera seems to be prone to dramatics like most detectives are, but perhaps to a lesser degree than [[Shinichi]] or [[Heiji]] as she bluntly says who the criminal is without preamble. On the other hand, Sera is tough to the point that she is willing to risk all to achieve a successful conclusion of a case. In one instance, she purposefully lured a hostage-taker into a sniper's sight with a smile, hoping he would be shot without showing any apprehension about his possible demise.

Sera first met [[Sonoko]], [[Ran]], and [[Conan]] on a bus after she was mistaken for a [[Wikipedia:Chikan|groper]]. After Sonoko declared Sera was the groper, Sera and Ran got into a fight, with Sera's Jeet Kune Do holding even against Ran's karate. Conan and Sera cleared up the misunderstanding by pointing out the real groper. Sonoko then mistook Sera for a boy, an impression which wasn't helped by Sera declaring that Ran was "his type".<ref name=pronouns/> Sera and Ran both discovered they were heading to the same hotel, about which Conan is less than pleased.

Sera finds out the hotel she is staying at doesn't have a room available and complains at the front desk. A man then falls into the parking lot and dies. Conan runs to the source of screaming while Sera told the guard to watch the elevators before running to the roof. She immediately declares the crime to be a murder, giving her reasoning. She then reveals her name, Sera, that she is a detective, and knows Conan is a detective as well.

[[Inspector Megure]] is not pleased to have another high school detective underfoot but lets Sera and Conan investigate regardless. After listening to the suspect testimony, police observations, and examining the crime scene, Sera announces that she has solved the case.

However, Sera's deduction leaves out a critical detail; Conan is therefore forced to use Shinichi's phone to call his own, give Inspector Megure Conan's phone, and speak through Shinichi's as Shinichi using the voice-changer bow tie. Shinichi figures out the detail that had Sera stumped, although a look she gives Conan as he runs off suggests her omission was possibly intentional, and once during the phone conversation she tries to trick Shinichi into admitting that he is physically present at the crime scene instead of being explained the details by Conan and Megure.

The following day, Sera transfers to Teitan High School, surprising both Ran and Sonoko. She was rather popular at school surrounded by students asking her questions about herself.

According to Sonoko, Sera has become very popular at Teitan high for being "cheery, sociable, boyish, and cute...and on top of that, she is a jeet kun do-using female detective!"<ref>Manga Volume 73, File 9, Page 3, "Let's hear your brilliant deduction!"</ref> One classmate compares her to [[Shinichi Kudo]] who has been taking a break from school. Sera tells inquiring classmates that she has been staying in America with her parents since three years ago, but "rebelled" because she would rather live in her Japan where she was born and raised. She sneaks up behind Sonoko and Ran after school because she wanted to speak to Conan at the Mouri Detective Agency. At the agency, Sera is unhappy to hear that Conan and the rest of Detective Boys are staying at Agasa's house and will be camping the following day. She settles for asking Kogoro if Conan is always at his side when he solves cases, hinting that she suspects Conan is the real brains behind "Sleeping Kogoro".

Just as Sera is about to walk out the door, three female mystery writers and a man enter the agency. After a moment of confusion, the man suddenly fires a gun into the roof and takes the detective agency hostage. His demands are that Kogoro figure out which of the three writers killed his sister at a ryokan one month ago. The quick thinking Sera sidles up to Ran and tells her to go for the man's gun after she takes his legs out. Sera's leg sweep sends the man to the floor, and Ran removes the gun from the man's hand with a kick; however, Sera leaps back when the man reveals he has bombs strapped around his chest and will detonate them if they try to stop him.

Meanwhile at Agasa's, Haibara is angry that Conan used Shinichi's voice to solve a case around the suspicious Sera. Conan's response is that Sera is familiar somehow, like they have met before or she looks like someone, and Conan feels she isn't an enemy. Genta and Mitsuhiko told Conan they saw a high school student walking home with Ran, so the jealous Conan calls Ran's cellphone to hear about it from her.

The hostage taker man orders Ran to answer her phone, but Sera snatches the phone away and says hello to Conan (who is shocked that Sera is with Ran). Sera then tricks the hostage taker and keeps the line connected so Conan can listen in by closing Ran's [[Yaiba#Characters|Sea Cucumber Man]] cellphone strap in between the screen and keypad of the the flip phone.

====Nickname Rules (772)====
Sera asks a few insightful questions about the case; however the hostage taker man discovers Ran's phone is still connected. Under gunpoint, Sera steps in front of Ran and takes the blame, but Conan, using Shinichi's voice, says he ordered Ran to do it. Sera is mystified by why Shinichi is now on Conan's phone. Sera meanwhile spots a glint of light across from the detective agency and declares that the case will come to an end without Shinichi's help.

====Possible Sniping (773)====

Sera explains to Ran that she secretly kept the call to Conan connected so he could call the police and research into the case. While Sera is still surprised that Shinichi was on the other end of the line instead of Conan, she had initially hoped that Shinichi would somehow be able to talk down the would-be-murderer. She suspects that Shinichi has already figured which one of the suspects is the murderer in the ryokan case, but Shinichi is unable to reveal the truth because the hostage taker would then kill the named culprit and then himself. Sera's plan changed when she noticed the lights from the police snipers on the building across from Mouri Detective Agency. She explains to Ran in detail the names and functions of the various police divisions responsible for hostage situations, and tells Ran in a roundabout fashion that this situation will end with the hostage taker being killed by the police.

Sera launches a plan to bring the hostage taker into the snipers' range by telling him he should charge Ran's phone battery. Ran foils Sera's intentions by shutting the curtains, blocking the snipers' shot. To Sera's utter astonishment, Ran tells her that she doesn't want to see anyone die in front of her and declares that "Shinichi won't allow anyone to die. He absolutely wouldn't!"<ref>Volume 73, File 11, page 13, "Possible Sniping." Shinichi then begins to present his deductions over the phone and Sera wonders how he will manage to resolve this situation without bloodshed.</ref>

====The book with unturned pages (774)====
Sera and Ran take the opportunity to disable the hostage taker when he loses his composure and grip on the detonator after Shinichi tricks him into believing his sister committed suicide. Sera yells for the waiting bomb squad to secure the area. With the hostage taker arrested, Shinichi then reveals the true culprit. Sera realizes the mistake in her deduction and explains the correct timeline of events before the murder. Sometime soon after the conclusion of the case, Sera, walking with Ran and Sonoko speculates aloud that there must be some reason Shinichi left Agasa's before Ran could meet him there. She then exclaims that "due to what just happened, she really gets it", that Conan and Shinichi are on very good terms with one another, and that Ran "is tougher than Sera thought". Conan isn't sure what to make of these last comments.

Sera stops [[Genta]] and [[Mitsuhiko]] outside of [[Agasa]]'s house to ask them if they are acquaintances of Professor Agasa. The topic of [[Shinichi]] comes up when she talks to Mitsuhiko and Genta about the prior hostage case. Mitsuhiko mentions that [[Haibara]] told them to keep Shinichi's involvement secret. After asking about Haibara, Sera mentions that she saw Haibara in one of the professor's online videos. Next, Sera asks who is currently living in the Kudo house because she saw the curtains shift slightly. The Detective Boys tell her that [[Subaru Okiya]] has been staying there since his apartment burnt down. [[File:Ai image.png|thumb|right|Sera deletes Haibara's image]] Sera cryptically comments with a smirk on her face, "And here I thought that someone had just settled in without permission...But it seems I was just getting worked up over nothing..." while looking up at where Subaru Okiya is hiding.

At the end of the case, Sera is in her hotel room deleting various files. One of her deleted files was a still image from Agasa's video blown up to show Haibara reflected in Agasa's glasses. This indicates that she is not only keeping an eye on Conan but also on Haibara.
"Delete... Delete... For data, at least is an easy task to accomplish...", were her words while she was doing it.

===East vs. West Rematch (Manga: [[Volume_74#East_vs._West|778-780]], Anime: [[Conan vs. Heiji, Deduction Battle Between the Detectives of the East and West|651]])===

The case opens with Ran talking to Sera about [[Heiji Hattori]] who is stopping by for a visit. Sera is curious whether Heiji or Shinichi is the better detective. After Heiji is introduced to Sera, Kazuha then calls Heiji and tells her that she is stuck at a restaurant because someone died and a foreigner [[Andre Camel]] is keeping everyone from leaving. Sera proposes Heiji and Shinichi (via Conan's cellphone) have a deduction match. At the crime scene, Sera becomes curious about the foreigner, [[Andre Camel]] who secured the area. The police and Conan reveal Camel is an [[FBI]] agent and Sera takes interest. Meanwhile, Camel finds that Sera looks familiar, but can't quite place why. He takes a picture of her and mails it to [[Jodie]] and [[James Black]] who are waiting outside. Jodie and James Black think Sera resembles someone too, but only James Black correctly identified Sera as female.

Meanwhile Sera is busy helping with the case, asking questions and making comments about various deductions. Heiji nearly slips up with Conan's identity in front of her earning a pointed question from Sera, but Heiji rescues himself by saying he thinks of Conan as Kudo when Conan gets smug have hearing Shinichi's deductions over the phone. Sera doesn't seemed to be fooled though, her thoughts show that she seems to know Conan, not Shinichi, is the one solving the case while watching Conan come to his final conclusion.

===EYE (Manga: [[Volume_74#Eye_for_an_Eye|781]], Anime: [[The Design of Poison and Mirage|652]])===
Conan, Heiji, Sera, and the rest of the group return to the Mouri Detective Agency after the poisoning case at Danny's restaurant. Heiji reveals the case that brought him to Tokyo; he received a mysterious letter signed in the name of a person who was murdered in Karuizawa requesting an investigation. Sera takes an immediate interest in the case and wants to tag along, but Heiji refuses saying that the people he is visiting are only expected five people. Sera is peeved at being left behind.

===Kogoro-san is a Good Man (Manga: [[Volume 75|787]], Anime: [[Kogoro-san is a Good Man|661]])===
Sera is walking with Conan, Ran and Sonoko. While they wonder why Kogoro has been coming home late, Sonoko thinks he's found himself a mistress. Sera thinks that he is just investigating a case. When an old lady named Takae Kiritani comes, she claims that Kogoro has been helping her. Sera asks what he does for her to which she replies that its small things like helping around the house. Sera isn't seen again for the rest of the case.

===Murder at Mouri Detective Agency (Manga: [[Volume 76|797-800]], Anime: [[Detectives' Nocturne|672-674]])===

During a murder case at Mouri Detective Agency, after meeting Kogoro's new apprentice [[Tooru Amuro]], [[Megure]] comments that the number of detectives around Kogoro has increased again, referring to Sera. Amuro takes interest in Sera. Later, Kogoro and friends go over to a suspect's apartment. Sera calls Ran after hearing about the murder on the news because she is worried about her and Conan. The call has an usual amount of static which alerts Amuro that there are listening devices present. Amuro abruptly hangs up Ran's phone on Sera. Meanwhile, Conan intentionally gets himself kidnapped by the primary suspect. After Ran enables calling again, Sera calls back immediately and is very upset because she was worried something had happened to Ran. Ran tells her that Conan has been kidnapped, and details to Sera the murder at Kogoro's agency. In order to figure out where the kidnapper is headed, Kogoro and Amuro search the apartment and decide to go to the address of one of the other suspects.

Sera arrives at suspect's home on [[Cars|her motorcycle]], but just misses Kogoro and the gang leaving. She hears the elevator descending and rushes back downstairs in time to follow Amuro's [[Cars|car]]. Meanwhile, the culprit has been driving around with Conan while Haibara has been directing Okiya's car towards them using the criminal tracking glasses. Okiya catches up to the kidnapper and relays what the car looks like to Kogoro. Amuro sees the suspect's car heading in the opposite direction so he quickly wheels around after it. Sera, who has been following Amuro's car this whole time, u-turns after Amuro and continues chasing. Amuro gets in front of the suspect's car and stops it. The suspect gets out of the car holding Conan at gunpoint, but Sera drives up onto the roof of the car. She swings her motorcycle around so that the rear wheel slams into the woman's face knocking her unconscious. With tears of relief, Sera hugs Conan, happy he is safe. Amuro, Okiya, and [[Vermouth]] look on.

===Meeting with Scar Akai (Manga: [[Volume 76|801]], Anime: [[Won't Forgive One Millimeter|675]])===

Sera is walking with Sonoko and Ran, and Ran is talking by phone with Conan. Sera hears Haibara's voice in the background and becomes curious. She asks the two others what Haibara is like, and Sonoko says Haibara is like a woman in a child's body.

When Ran hangs up her cellphone, the topic switches over to Amuro. Sera says to Ran she wants to meet Amuro because she never got a really good look at him from the last case, but Sonoko thinks she wants to meet Conan. instead. Ran says Shinichi and Conan are big fans of Sherlock Holmes. Sera thinks about that she has known that for a long time.

Suddenly, Sera sees [[Scar Akai]] in the crowd ahead. She runs after him, but she can't catch him. Ran wonders who Sera was chasing, but Sera replies she thought it was someone she knew, and silently appends in her mind that it would be impossible for the man she was chasing to be the person she thinks it was.

===Yusaku Kudo's Cold Case (Manga: [[Volume 77|812-814]])===
Sera meets [[Subaru Okiya]] at Shinichi's house and she finds him suspicious. She began to think there is a woman at Kudo's house because there are a hair elastic, lipstick in a glass and a long hair in the sink trap. After that, all of them solved a case together that is similar to a case that Shinichi Kudo's father dropped out 10 years ago. It was revealed to be a theft case. Both Subaru and Sera had got more suspicious of Conan and the identity of Shinichi Kudo. At the end, when the criminals were knocked, she saw Ran and Conan and she thought she was a 'bad kid', after all.

===Cabin Trap (Manga: [[Volume 77|815-817]])===
She went camping when she meets Professor Agasa and Conan. The Detective Boys were lost. Sera and Conan found the two policemen finding the corpse. After she and Conan solved the case, she and Conan rushed towards the burning cabin. Conan and the Detective Boys were talking about how they got safe. Mitsuhiko pointed the way were their savior went. Sera then began to ask what kind of woman is their savior. She seemed to be surprised when she saw her on Mitsuhiko's cell phone.

===Mystery Train (Manga: [[Volume 78|818-824]])===

Sera finally meets Haibara, and Haibara has a bad feeling about her (although it could have been due to Scar Akai spying on them from behind the door just then). Later when a murder occurs on the Bell Tree Express, she and Conan investigate. Sera takes a video recording of the suspects running so she can show it to the detective boys in order to ask them which one had the closest gait to the masked suspect from earlier, but she is intercepted first by Scar Akai in the hallway. She stops and angrily asks him who he is. Scar Akai simply replies that she hasn't changed, reveals his face to her, and refers to her by her first name, "Masumi". In her shock Sera calls him "Shuu-nii", signifying that Akai is Sera's older brother. She questions Scar Akai about what happened, saying that she heard he had died. Scar Akai then tasers her unconscious, stating that he was hoping for that response. Scar Akai later is revealed to be Vermouth in disguise, explaining why he attacked Sera.

===The Blush Mermaid (Manga: [[Volume 78|828]]-[[Volume 79|830]])===

Sera accompanies Conan, Ran, and Sonoko to the location of Kaitou Kid's next heist: a museum where the Blush Mermaid, a gem adhered to the shell of a turtle as a last ditch effort by a an Italian actress in an accident at sea to save her turtle by encouraging someone to rescue it. Before checking out the museum, Sera asks Ran if she saw a [[Scar Akai|strange man in black]] when she found the hat on the Belltree Express. After the group arrives at the room where the turtle is being held in a large aquarium, Inspector Nakamori pulls Sera's face to see if it is a mask worn by Kid. Annoyed by Nakamori's mistaken gender assumption and having her face pinched, Sera knees him in the privates ostensibly to prove he isn't Kid. Sera then runs off to the bathroom. Later, when Kid makes his move, Sera is one of many caught in his trap: the rug on the floor is pulled up by strings so that it pins everyone standing on it to the front of aquarium. As soon as the rug drops, everyone sees the tank is empty except for a card left by Kid. This leaves Conan and Sera quite dumbfounded as to how Kaitou Kid could have removed the turtle. Later, Conan reveals that Sera is really Kaitou Kid, and he had made a critical error in his acting by assuming Sera was a male. Kaitou Kid had locked the real Sera in the men's bathroom after knocking her out with a stun gun. Upon gaining consciousness, Sera escapes her bonds, rushes out of the bathroom, and gives a still disguised Kid a fierce kick to the face. After Kid escapes, Sera is relieved she recovered her hat, which she thinks is special because it somehow has the same feel as her brother Shuichi Akai's hat.

===Our Territory (Manga: 844-846)===
Conan, Ran, Sonoko, Kogoro and Sera go to a live cooking show. Conan wants to ask something important to Sera, but a murder gets in his way. While solving the case, Ran realises that Sera and her might have met each other before, since Ran thinks of waves in the beach each time Sera gets away. At the end of the case, Conan asks Sera if they had met each other before. Sera smiles and says she doesn´t know, but actually she thinks "Of course we have, but I can´t tell you until the time comes..."

Although she claimed to know Ran from Karate tournaments, she additionally recognized Conan as a detective. This may indicate Sera has done research or follows stories about Conan's achievements or that she has had direct or indirect contact with Conan and Ran. However, Ran and Conan didn't recognize Sera. In Chapter 771, it is revealed that she also knows Professor Agasa, although she calls him "Professor what's his name". Furthermore, Sera seems to decipher Conan's identity from Chapter 779, Abe-chan, where she can predict that Conan would be able to solve this case, successfully.

Sera is the younger sister of [[Shuichi Akai]], as confirmed at the end of chapter 821.<ref>Manga Chapter 821</ref> In Chapter 801, Sera chased after [[Scar Akai]] who appeared while she was walking with Ran in front of the Mouri Detective Agency. Although, Scar Akai hid before she could find him, she told Ran that she had just seen "someone she knew". She then thinks there is no way it was possible, which would make sense if she thought Akai was dead. This implies she isn't Bourbon, since Bourbon believes he is the only one who can kill Akai and that Gin failed to do so, hence he wouldn't think that it was impossible to meet Akai again in the street.

Sera has an interest in Conan and Haibara. While her interest is suspicious, if Sera is Akai's sister, the interest may come from the pictures of Conan and Haibara that Akai took back during the Vermouth arc. It is standard procedure in the US to send the personal belongings of the dead back to their families. If Akai mixed these pictures in with his own things when he took them out of his truck before meeting with Kir, it's possible they were overlooked when the FBI sent Akai's things to his family. If Sera was interested in finding out how and why Akai died, she would begin by researching the people in those pictures and those connected with them in hopes of finding clues.
