They revealed that the culprit is Sakuraba. With the help of string with a loop and a bit of cellotape, the culprit can create a locked room murder. When Sakuraba hit Kikuhito, he broke some glass off the window behind the body. The window has also a small hole. First, he fastened the loop to the window's lock, put the broken piece back, and pull the string through it. Then, he went to the balcony with the window unlocked and pulled the string gently so the lock slides to the left slightly and locking the window. Then, he pulled the string harder so the string is undone from the tape. The string is pulled outside and the room, because the door at the entrance was also locked, is assumed to be a locked room. Sakuraba hit Kikuhito so that he would hit the window and break the glass so the evidence would disappear. Heiji told them that Sakuraba ran away using the balcony. He get down to the next floor using it. It is impossible for Mikio to do that because he has a hurt leg. Kaede and Yurie wear unsuitable clothes so it would be impossible for them either. As for Kikuhito, he has a terrible fear of heights. Only one person remains and that is Sakuraba. He can also climb a tree with ease so it would be easy for him to ran away using the balcony. Heiji then points out that Sakuraba and Kaede were secretly lovers. He also reveals that Sakuraba couldn't forgive Shigematsu for arranging the marriage between Kaede and Kikuhito so he killed him. As for evidence, Heiji found a shirt covered in blood to which Sakuraba belongs to. Sakuraba is soon arrested. However, the murder weapon is still missing.<br /> -------<br /> The real culprit is revealed to be '''Kikuhito Morizono'''. Heiji and Conan fake him out by stating Sakuraba is the criminal, and have Kikuhito recover the bundle of murder discovered by Heiji and Conan eairlier. The trick explained earlier was not really used. The proof is the presence of bloodstains on the lock but absence of it in the balcony. Actually, there were no tricks used, since, in reality, Kikuhito was there in the room all the time. Conan joins the deduction show and points out that Kikuhito were hiding behind the left curtain in the room next to the one where the body was found. That's why the shutters was closed, so that no one could see from the outside that he were hiding behind the curtains. He also switched the lights off and dragged the body from one room to another, leaving a bloody trail. This way, after forcing the door open, they would logically follow the trail to the next room and their attention was focused on the corpse. After that, Kikuhito came out from behind the curtains and joined the people who had gathered at the scene while pretending to be innocent. He put the cat in the room so as to make Sakuraba's alibi fragile. He knew his father would ask Sakuraba to find the cat if it was missing. The blood-splattered shirt was one he had stolen from Sakuraba. He rolled the shirt around the murder weapon and the gloves together and throwed them through the window. He broke the window with the chair to get their attention and have them found the body. The tools he threw ended up stuck in the tree so the police can't find it. Since his afraid of heights and he needs to get rid of the murder weapon, he didn't have a choice so he threw it.<br /> <br /> === Motive ===<br /> Kikuhito admitted the crime. He said that Shigematsu was blackmailing him to cancel the wedding. If he didn't cancel the wedding, Shigematsu will tell his father about his company's bad payments. That's why he killed his butler, so his secret will not be found out and to prevent future blackmailing. He wanted to put the blame on Sakuraba, who stole his fiancee. However, the truth is Sakuraba didn't steal her. Kaede always came there to see him. Shigematsu, thought she was there for Kikuhito, arranged the marriage. He was wrong, just as Kikuhito's father was long ago. He never mentioned it because he didn't dare, thinking of the shock it would cause him. Furthermore, he was the one who united them. Shigematsu didn't want to blackmail him. He only wanted him to renounce the wedding so Kaede and Sakuraba could be together, so that couple wouldn't have to endure the same circumstance as he had long ago.<br /> <br /> === Afterward ===<br /> Afterward at the train station, Ran pulls in Kazuha wearing a striped blouse that matches with Heiji's striped jacket. The alumni tell Rumi that they are planning to dig up a time capsule buried before their graduation to liven up the reunion party. Shou Murata mentions they are waiting for Akemi Miyano since she was the one who buried the capsule. They are worried if she doesn't come, which Sumiko then shows a clue for the location, and the three are startled. Conan's group goes to the principal office since the code starts with &quot;Monet, can be shown&quot; and the principal used to have a monet replica in his office. While searching, Conan asks Murata what kind of person was Akemi. Murata replies she was bright, kind, thoughtful, and popular. Haibara is happy after hearing that. Meanwhile, Mitsuhiko's group is searching in the infirmary. Mitsuhiko searches the hand-washing sink. He says to Ichihashi that the second line, &quot;Doctor, don't tell a lie&quot; is &quot;Tell a lie&quot; in English. (In Japanese, &quot;Tell a lie&quot; is pronounced as &quot;Te arai&quot;, meaning hand-washing.) Ichihashi comments that Mitsuhiko is smart. He wanted to keep people from finding the time capsule since he thought Akemi had hidden a confession about what Gaku and his two friends had done in elementary school. They were the ones who had caused the fire in the music room 14 years ago by accident and Akemi witnessed them. On the day of graduation, Akemi told Gaku to ''Be brave'', which he misinterpreted as her wanting him to turn in. Years later, a few days before the class reunion, Yanagimachi went to Akemi's apartment so he could ask her to not tell anybody about it, but found that the apartment seemed to have not been occupied for a long time, although he didn't know she died. Thus, he sent invitation letters to the two others so he could use them as a cover to dig up the time capsule by himself and take out the possible incriminating evidence of his past crime. <br /> <br /> It turns out that the time capsule was not in the equipment room, but in the breeding hut. The evidence is the fact that her name on the cipher was written vertically, and not horizontally, like the rest of the cipher, and since she used to be a member of the library committee, Conan deduced that her name represented her, and the cipher represented the computer keyboard of the library. All they had to do was input the four lines of cipher in hiragana on the keyboard to get the letters formed by each sentence on the keyboard. The letters formed were しいくごや (Shiikugoya), which meant the breeding hut (飼育小屋). After Yanagimachi confesses, Murata reveals he had copied a painting from Akemi and that his's got hung in the principal's office instead, and thought that Akemi might be angry about it and write about it inside her time capsule. Ichihashi also says she had cheated on Akemi because she looked at her copy in a Japanese examination. She immediately declares the crime to be a murder, giving her reasoning. She then reveals her name, Sera, that she is a detective, and knows Conan is a detective as well. She also revealed before she knew Conan's name despite it not being mentioned in front of her, revealing that Masumi has been investigating Conan for awhile now.<br /> <br /> [[Juzo Megure|Inspector Megure]] is not pleased to have another high school detective underfoot but lets Masumi and Conan investigate regardless. After listening to the suspect testimony, police observations, and examining the crime scene, Masumi announces that she has solved the case.<br /> <br /> However, Masumi's deduction leaves out a critical detail; Conan is therefore forced to use Shinichi's phone to call his own, give Inspector Megure Conan's phone, and speak through Shinichi's as Shinichi using the voice-changer bow tie. Shinichi figures out the detail that had Masumi stumped, although a look she gives Conan as he runs off suggests her omission was possibly intentional, and once during the phone conversation she tries to trick Shinichi into admitting that he is physically present at the crime scene instead of being explained the details by Conan and Megure.<br /> <br /> The following day, Masumi transfers to Teitan High School, surprising both Ran and Sonoko. The quick thinking Masumi sidles up to Ran and tells her to go for the man's gun after she takes his legs out. Sera's leg sweep sends the man to the floor, and Ran removes the gun from the man's hand with a kick; however, Masumi leaps back when the man reveals he has bombs strapped around his chest and will detonate them if they try to stop him.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile at Agasa's, Haibara is angry that Conan used Shinichi's voice to solve a case around the suspicious Masumi. Conan's response is that Masumi is familiar somehow, like they have met before or she looks like someone, and Conan feels she isn't an enemy. Genta and Mitsuhiko told Conan they saw a high school student walking home with Ran, so the jealous Conan calls Ran's cellphone to hear about it from her.<br /> <br /> The hostage taker man orders Ran to answer her phone, but Masumi snatches the phone away and says hello to Conan (who is shocked that Masumi is with Ran). While Masumi is still surprised that Shinichi was on the other end of the line instead of Conan, she had initially hoped that Shinichi would somehow be able to talk down the would-be-murderer. She suspects that Shinichi has already figured which one of the suspects is the murderer in the ryokan case, but Shinichi is unable to reveal the truth because the hostage taker would then kill the named culprit and then himself. Sera's plan changed when she noticed the lights from the police snipers on the building across from Mouri Detective Agency. She explains to Ran in detail the names and functions of the various police divisions responsible for hostage situations, and tells Ran in a roundabout fashion that this situation will end with the hostage taker being killed by the police. <br /> <br /> Masumi launches a plan to bring the hostage taker into the snipers' range by telling him he should charge Ran's phone battery. Ran foils Sera's intentions by shutting the curtains, blocking the snipers' shot. To Masumi's utter astonishment, Ran tells her that she doesn't want to see anyone die in front of her and declares that &quot;Shinichi won't allow anyone to die. He absolutely wouldn't!&quot;&lt;ref&gt;Volume 73, File 11, page 13, &quot;Possible Sniping.&quot; Shinichi then begins to present his deductions over the phone and Masumi wonders how he will manage to resolve this situation without bloodshed.&lt;/ref&gt;<br /> <br /> ==== The book with unturned pages (774) ====<br /> Masumi and Ran take the opportunity to disable the hostage taker when he loses his composure and grip on the detonator after Shinichi tricks him into believing his sister committed suicide. Masumi yells for the waiting bomb squad to secure the area. With the hostage taker arrested, Shinichi then reveals the true culprit. Masumi realizes the mistake in her deduction and explains the correct timeline of events before the murder. Sometime soon after the conclusion of the case, Masumi, walking with Ran and Sonoko speculates aloud that there must be some reason Shinichi left Agasa's before Ran could meet him there. She then exclaims that &quot;due to what just happened, she really gets it&quot;, that Conan and Shinichi are on very good terms with one another, and that Ran &quot;is tougher than Masumi thought&quot;. After asking about Haibara, Masumi mentions that she saw Haibara in one of the professor's online videos. Next, Masumi asks who is currently living in the Kudo house because she saw the curtains shift slightly. The Detective Boys tell her that [[Subaru Okiya]] has been staying there since his apartment burnt down. Masumi cryptically comments with a smirk on her face, &quot;And here I thought that someone had just settled in without permission...But it seems I was just getting worked up over nothing...&quot; while looking up at where Subaru is hiding.<br /> <br /> At the end of the case, Masumi is in her hotel room deleting various files. One of her deleted files was a still image from Agasa's video blown up to show Haibara reflected in Agasa's glasses. After Heiji is introduced to Masumi, Kazuha then calls Heiji and tells him that she is stuck at a restaurant because someone died and a foreigner [[Andre Camel]] is keeping everyone from leaving. Masumi proposes Heiji and Shinichi (via Conan's cellphone) have a deduction match. At the crime scene, Masumi becomes curious about the foreigner, Camel who secured the area. The police and Conan reveal Camel is an [[Federal Bureau of Investigation|FBI]] agent and Masumi takes interest. Meanwhile, Camel finds that Masumi looks familiar, but can't quite place why. He takes a picture of her and mails it to [[Jodie Starling|Jodie]] and [[James Black]] who are waiting outside. Jodie and James think Masumi resembles someone too, but only James Black correctly identified Masumi as female.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile Masumi is busy helping with the case, asking questions and making comments about various deductions. Heiji nearly slips up with Conan's identity in front of her earning a pointed question from Masumi, but Heiji rescues himself by saying he thinks of Conan as Kudo when Conan gets smug have hearing Shinichi's deductions over the phone. Masumi doesn't seemed to be fooled though, her thoughts show that she seems to know Conan, not Shinichi, is the one solving the case while watching Conan come to his final conclusion.<br /> <br /> === EYE (Manga: [[Volume 74#Eye for an Eye|781]], Anime: [[The Design of Poison and Mirage|652]]) ===<br /> Conan, Heiji, Masumi, and the rest of the group return to the Mouri Detective Agency after the poisoning case at Danny's restaurant. Heiji reveals the case that brought him to Tokyo; he received a mysterious letter signed in the name of a person who was murdered in Karuizawa requesting an investigation. Masumi takes an immediate interest in the case and wants to tag along, but Heiji refuses saying that the people he is visiting are only expected five people. Masumi is peeved at being left behind.<br /> <br /> === Kogoro-san is a Good Man (Manga: [[Volume 75|787]], Anime: [[Kogoro-san is a Good Man|661]]) ===<br /> Masumi is walking with Conan, Ran and Sonoko. When an old lady named Takae Kiritani comes, she claims that Kogoro has been helping her. Masumi asks what he does for her to which she replies that its small things like helping around the house. Amuro takes interest in Masumi. Later, Kogoro and friends go over to a suspect's apartment. Masumi calls Ran after hearing about the murder on the news because she is worried about her and Conan. The call has an usual amount of static which alerts Amuro that there are listening devices present. Amuro abruptly hangs up Ran's phone on Masumi. Meanwhile, Conan intentionally gets himself kidnapped by the primary suspect. After Ran enables calling again, Masumi calls back immediately and is very upset because she was worried something had happened to Ran. Ran tells her that Conan has been kidnapped, and details to Masumi the murder at Kogoro's agency. In order to figure out where the kidnapper is headed, Kogoro and Amuro search the apartment and decide to go to the address of one of the other suspects. <br /> <br /> Masumi arrives at suspect's home on [[Cars|her motorcycle]], but just misses Kogoro and the gang leaving. She hears the elevator descending and rushes back downstairs in time to follow Amuro's [[Cars|car]]. Meanwhile, the culprit has been driving around with Conan while Haibara has been directing Okiya's car towards them using the criminal tracking glasses. Okiya catches up to the kidnapper and relays what the car looks like to Kogoro. Amuro sees the suspect's car heading in the opposite direction so he quickly wheels around after it. Masumi, who has been following Amuro's car this whole time, u-turns after Amuro and continues chasing. Amuro gets in front of the suspect's car and stops it. The suspect gets out of the car holding Conan at gunpoint, but Masumi drives up onto the roof of the car. She swings her motorcycle around so that the rear wheel slams into the woman's face knocking her unconscious. With tears of relief, Masumi hugs Conan, happy he is safe. Both Subaru and Masumi had got more suspicious of Conan and the identity of Shinichi Kudo. She stops and angrily asks him who he is. Scar Akai simply replies that she hasn't changed, reveals his face to her, and refers to her by her first name, &quot;Masumi&quot;. In her shock Masumi calls him &quot;Shu-nii&quot;, signifying that Shuichi is Masumi's older brother. She questions Scar Akai about what happened, saying that she heard he had died. Scar Akai then tasers her unconscious, stating that he was hoping for that response. After the group arrives at the room where the turtle is being held in a large aquarium, [[Ginzo Nakamori|Inspector Nakamori]] pulls Masumi's face to see if it is a mask worn by Kid. Annoyed by Nakamori's mistaken gender assumption and having her face pinched, Masumi knees him in the privates ostensibly to prove he isn't Kid. Masumi then runs off to the bathroom. Later, when Kid makes his move, Masumi is one of many caught in his trap: the rug on the floor is pulled up by strings so that it pins everyone standing on it to the front of aquarium. As soon as the rug drops, everyone sees the tank is empty except for a card left by Kid. This leaves Conan and Masumi quite dumbfounded as to how Kaitou Kid could have removed the turtle. Later, Conan reveals that Masumi is really Kaitou Kid, and he had made a critical error in his acting by assuming Masumi was a male. Kaitou Kid had locked the real Masumi bound and gagged in the men's bathroom after knocking her out with a stun gun. Upon gaining consciousness, Masumi escapes her bonds, rushes out of the bathroom, and gives a still disguised Kid a fierce kick to the face. The case takes a dark turn when one of the classmates is found murdered in a bathtub of tomatoes. With the help of the Nagano police, Conan and Masumi manage to solve the case. Later, Masumi asks Conan to find her cellphone in the kitchen by calling it with his. He does so and Conan notices the call background screen is a [[Mary|child who looks like Masumi]] with eye bags similar to those of the [[Akai family]] members. A murder interrupts the meeting. While Conan is investigating, he notices the middle-school aged [[Mary|child]] from Masumi's cellphone picture in the gathered crowd. However, Subaru ended up interrupting Sera's investigation, which irritated Sera and tried to kick him. Subaru easily dodged the kick and told Sera that the divison of fault is &quot;50:50&quot;; saying that he might be at fault for irritating her, but she is also at fault for trying to kick him, which surprised Sera.<br /> After the case, Sera asks her mother about her &quot;50:50&quot; catchphrase, Mary revealed that it is a line that her husband used to say and her son Shuichi inherited from him. Sera started to remember her mother's shrinking, which occured at the same time of [[Holmes' Revelation]]'s arc in London. Sera and Mary witnessed Conan calling himself Holmes' apprentice during Minerva's match on TV, and remembered the same proclamation of Shinichi 10 years ago on the beach. The two realised that Conan is Shinichi, and has a way to return as Shinichi to board a plane to London. Since then, Mary ordered Sera to get closer to him in order to obtain the antidote. He knew that Hanasaki would be irritated by the bended strawberry to want another slice, but due to a recent scandal, he didn't want to make a scene and switched the slice secretly with Kushiyama's.<br /> <br /> Mary's shrinking happened around the time of [[Holmes' Revelation]] arc. Mary and Sera witnessed Conan proclaiming himself as Holmes' apprentice during Minerva's match on TV, and remembered the same proclamation of Shinichi ten years ago at the beach. The two realized that Conan was Shinichi, and that despite being shrunk, he had the ways of returning as Shinichi to board a plane to London. Amuro picks up a shogi piece lying on the ground. <br /> They come across Umisuke Hatoyama, the younger brother of Gisuke Hatoyama, the owner of the farm, who shows them Ayumi stuffed in his bag and threatens her life with a knife. He locks them in a basement, where apparently Kazami is being held captive as well. Conan figures out that it was death by suicide, and that the victim was researching something considering the highlighter marks on his hands. Kazami informs about his presence in the farm. They contact the other group, Haibara, Genta and Rumi via the detective badge and make them aware of their situation. Having no means to call the police, they end up entering the farm by breaking the window glass. Genta points out to Rumi that her back pocket has a hole, and wonders about Amuro picking up some wooden piece. Ayumi gains consciousness and recounts what she saw. Conan pieces two and two, and arrives at the truth.<br /> <br /> === File 1053 - Light ===<br /> It turns out that the three men are searching for a meteorite. The film that Mitsuhiko saw on Kanou's phone was a report of a falling meteorite. In the farm office Wakasa, Haibara and Genta find papers proving that the late owner was researching meteorites. They find traces of ink from a broken yellow highlighter and traces of a hiking boot stepped on it. Conan remembers that the three men were all wearing hiking boots. They also find a pallasite meteorite that is broken in half due to having been throwing onto the floor. Haibara suspects that the farm owner, Gisuke, may have attempted to fake a meteorite due to his financial situation, but Genta notices a stack of magnets on the table and wonders why have them, if the owner knew that they wouldn't stick to the pallasite meteorite. Kazami guesses that Gisuke entrusted the real meteorite to someone he thought could appraise it, but when the appraiser returned the stone with a negative result, they had a fight which ended with the yellow highlighter being dropped to the floor and stamped upon. Later Gisuke figures out that the appraiser had taken the real meteorite for himself and given back a pallasite. In despair over having been scammed, he killed himself. Conan and Amuro agrees to Kazami's theory and figures out that Umisuke locked them down, not to kill them, but to keep them out of his way so he could avenge his brother's death by killing the scammer.<br /> <br /> Conan comes up with a plan to single out the scammer who drove Gisuke to suicide.<br /> <br /> === File 1054 - The Strong One is... ===<br /> &lt;spoiler&gt;The culprit who drove Gisuke to suicide is '''Takashi Nanbu'''. <br /> Conan explains the truth of the case. He makes Haibara prepare a pseudo backlight to tell apart the high lighter marks on the papers that were stepped upon. They reach the place where Umisuke had gathered the three suspects. Conan asks him to make them kneel down and point the backlight at their at their boots, to tell apart those which had stepped on the highlighter in the room. Rumi manages to disarm Umisuke’s mobile phone, which was to be used to set off the bombs. By the time, the rest of them arrived, except Nukiyasu Baba. They searched for him, but he was nowhere to be seen. But a picture of a laid out playing cards, was sent to Fuugo Baba’s smartphone. Later the police broke in through the attic window, and found Nukiyasu cold dead, with a cross-bow bolt lodged in his back.<br /> <br /> Wakita overhears the case from outside, and shows interest in the case.<br /> <br /> === File 1056 - A Locked-Room Murder in the Attic ===<br /> Yoko shows them the group photo of the four who were present with her that day. She mentions about the past the brothers shared about playing card games in the attic, hiding from their strict parents. She shows a photo of Hejima’s sister, wearing long sleeves dress and sunglasses, who also went missing two years ago. Okiya replies it has to do indeed with the 17-year-old case in which his father had been involved. Okiya says his father wasn't from the FBI, but refuses to tell Conan more about it...unless the latter tells him about his true identity. Conan says he'll tell him when the case is solved and closed - even though Conan believes it's useless as Akai probably already knows the entire truth.<br /> <br /> Kazunori Senba tells the police he wants to go back home as they don't need him anymore. But the police insists on him staying a little longer for some more questioning, and Chiba tells Okiya and Agasa Senba is the one who found out Hiyama's corpse, he injured his foot stepping by accident on shattered glass in the crime's room. Okiya asks Senba if his right leg still hurts him, and Senba replies he actually injured his left foot, though he had an accident last month during which his right leg was badly injured, and still hurts actually. Takagi tells Senba Okiya is just Agasa's assistant, the one who invented the fancy scissors Hiyama had in hand when dying. Senba refuses to tell Okiya about the events as he's not from the police, but Conan tells Senba Okiya just wants to check if the scissors' special function actually worked, because the mechanism could have been activated if the culprit has done something weird around Hiyama's body.<br /> <br /> Senba then accepts to recount what happened : he came in Hiyama's house and was searched by the bodyguards who checked if he had metallic objects on him. Senba then went to the central lodge and opened the door, then he waited in the corridor a minute or two, but Hiyama never came. Senba called out for him but still nothing. Afterwards, he wandered around the lodge, checking the rooms one after the other, until the bathroom, only to find Hiyama's corpse there, and the room as it is now. Senba says as soon as he saw Hiyama's head was bleeding he rushed to rescue him. Okiya says then it's strange he went straight ahead without noticing the clearly visible shattered glass on the floor. Senba says he didn't notice it as he had barely cracked the door open to check the room rapidly. It wasn't directly in his field of vision, then he stepped on it by chance. But Conan says it's still weird as since the glass was shattered near the entrance, probably slung to the murderer's face by Hiyama, then if Senba had cracked the door open and immediately opened it wide afterwards to rush to Hiyama, the glass would have been swept aside by the door movement, implying Senba had really faint chances of stepping on a bit. Senba says he actually made a mistake : he now remembers the door to be open when he came, explaining why he directly saw Hiyama and ran to help him without noticing the glass.<br /> <br /> Senba notes Conan's undeceived gaze at him and tells him he's not the murderer despite his insinuations. He says if he had killed Hiyama he would be covered in blood, his clothes would be dripping bloody. Senba shows Conan his clothes in evidence but Conan notices Senba's shirt buttons are ill-fastened, as if done in a rush. Agasa and Okiya also note Senba's shirt isn't properly tucked into his trousers in the back, and his tie is too loose, just as his clothes are globally ill-kept. Senba takes fright and assures he's not the murderer as he didn't didn't bring any blunt weapons with him. Fed up with that questioning, Senba leaves followed by Takagi who tries to hold him back. Okiya asks the forensic agents picking up the shards of glass if Senba stepped on the glass barefooted, to which the forensics answer he was actually wearing slippers. Conan and Okiya observe the exhibit slipper whose heel is pierced by a shard of glass and red with blood, just as the inner part of the slipper is, and they deduce the ploy used by the culprit.<br /> <br /> Megure tells Okiya the broken glass is exactly the same as the other one on the sink, a Fusae-brand toothbrush glass, reminding Agasa of her first love Fusae Campbell, who became a world-famous businesswoman managing accessory-manufacturing firms. As the forensics ask people in front of the door to move aside as they're transporting Hiyama, Conan and Okiya smell a sweet fragrance coming from the corpse. Megure explains when they examined Hiyama's head injury, they found over it some peculiar substance looking like honey. As Megure is tired still not having an answer to the question he keeps asking Okiya, Agasa and Conan, which is what the link with the scissors actually is, he asks them when they intend to go home... Agasa comments on the case being so off-putting : honey on the victim's head, clenched scissors in his hand, a water tap which kept running even after the murder, etc. He wonders how Senba did manage to pass a weapon on to Hiyama's house even after being searched, if he is indeed the murderer. What's more, all windows are barred in the whole house. Okiya and Conan tell him Senba is really the culprit and they've found out his ploy, except for the weapon he used in the crime.<br /> <br /> Conan asks the two bodyguards what they found in Senba's pockets when they searched him. He actually had toys in plastic packets, along with little paper leaflets with pictures of other toys and dolls featured on them. He said these were presents for some children he knew, even though he had already shut up his dagashi shop (where toys and candy are usually sold). He also had a wallet and a key, along with a peculiar big yellowish toy ball, just like dagashi shops sell. They gave it to the police, but actually as they had found it on the ground and knew there is a big park next to the house, they thought it wasn't Senba's but rather a toy which was probably flung in the air and lost by a child playing in the park, though none went to retrieve it. Conan asks them to show him where they found it, which is actually just next to the lodge. A bodyguard went there and found it after hearing a strange muffled sound coming from the lodge's roof. Just next to the place the ball was found, Conan spots a small non-barred bottom window which is actually the washroom's one, in order to get more fresh air inside as all the other windows are barred, and actually even a child couldn't slip through it, which is why bars are useless here. The washroom isn't very far away from the bathroom where the murder took place, and from the cloakroom. The guard remembers the noise on the roof to be quite loud, like a double hit or so.<br /> <br /> As Conan and Okiya think about it and realise what the weapon might be, Agasa shouts in fear and tells them he was just startled by hundreds of ants walking a straight line towards the house. Conan doesn't get it why he shouted as Agasa' bookshelf is filled with books about bugs. Agasa answers bugs are cute on pictures but not so much in real life. Conan and Okiya suddenly understand something and follow the ant line up to the house under which landing they glance at something really interesting : the mysterious murder weapon being overrun by dozens of ants.<br /> <br /> === File 950 - The Clipped Letters ===<br /> Agasa tells Megure Conan and Okiya have figured out who the murderer is and how he managed not to be suspected at all.<br /> &lt;spoiler&gt;<br /> The culprit is indeed '''Kazunori Senba'''. Conan and Okiya say he brought the murder weapon with him inside the house : the plastic ball used to contain the toy and leaflet the guards found in his pockets during the search, the crime's weapon could have been put inside the ball and considered above suspicion. But Senba tells Conan he actually discarded it before coming to Hiyama's as he considered it useless. But Conan reveals it to be a lie, as Takagi comes along with the things Conan had asked him to buy in order to show him how the murderer actually used all of them to create his trick. First Conan opens the plastic ball and removes the toy and leaflet, then he tapes the ball's air openings to prevent honey from leaking, puts a big marble inside and covers it entirely with honey, and closes the ball again, and probably tapes it over just to make sure it won't open up later. Then Conan asks Takagi to throw the ball on the roof, along with another ball, a bouncing ball, actually very similar to the one the guard found earlier in the garden. Takagi complies and flings the balls over the roof. Both impacts are heard but only the bouncing ball directly falls from the roof to land on the ground near Takagi. Conan asks him to wait a moment for the other one to appear, while they all come in the lodge.<br /> <br /> Okiya reveals Hiyama did come to greet Senba at the entrance, and this latter asked him to use his washroom in order to recover the murder weapon. They go to the washroom which faces the bathroom where Hiyama was killed, and Okiya shows them the bottom window. He opens it and slips his arm through it, grabbing an item outside, below the window, which is actually the plastic ball. It didn't fall from the roof, as the marble and honey inside slowed it down dramatically, and it rolled down to the gutter, resumed its course up to the gutter's vertical hole, where rainwater is usually being collected, then fell inside the pipe, down to the bottom, eventually emerging on the ground and stopping just in front of the bottom window. Takagi confirms it to be true. Senba, the culprit, actually went in the park next to Hiyama's house and flung both balls at the same time on the lodge's roof, to make it believe that only one ball had been flung, not to arouse the guards' suspicion. The bodyguard only found one ball as indeed the other one was being slowed down and was still on the roof.<br /> <br /> Actually, if Conan put a marble inside the ball, Senba had used a big metal ball instead, and when he retrieved the heavy plastic ball, he put it inside his sock to create a blackjack-like weapon to bludgeon Hiyama with, which explains why Hiyama's head injury had honey on it : the plastic ball was chipped by the violent blows Senba gave to Hiyama, and honey leaked from it accordingly, through the sock. Senba still claims he would have blood all over his clothes if he was the killer, but Conan tells him he had undressed before murdering Hiyama, and then had dressed again after taking a shower in the washroom, which is why his clothes were fastened in a rush, due to him being tense after the crime and not wanting to attract the guards' attention because of his too long appointment with Hiyama. He also needed to have people believe he had quickly found Hiyama's corpse and alerted the guards, as it would have been suspicious otherwise. The washroom exactly faces the crime scene, thence taking a rapid shower is very easy, just as to dry yourself with toilet paper and flush it into the bowl afterwards. Okiya carries on and says Senba attracted Hiyama in the washroom claiming something like the water tap was out of service, and when he entered, Senba struck him with the weapon. Hiyama went to hide in the bathroom, followed by Senba, and slung a glass to this latter, to no avail. Senba cornered him in the bathroom and killed him. To get rid of the bloody sock and plastic ball, Senba couldn't actually just stand barefooted in his slippers, fearing the police may ask him why these latter were wet, and he would have had to confess to having taken a shower and to explain why. Therefore, he just removed the ball from the sock and put on his clothes again after the shower and drying, included the bloody sock, and put on his slippers again as well to deliberately step on a shard of glass, in order to have a reason to remove his sock and explain why it was bloodied. After dressing again, Senba quickly alerted the guards who rushed to Hiyama, while he discreetly got rid of the chipped plastic ball (with the metal ball in it) under the house's landing, hoping to have a chance to retrieve it later on. But leaking honey attracted hundreds of ants and the ball was eventually found and given to the forensics. Okiya and Conan got the trick when they saw blood in the inner part fo the slipper while there was supposed to be blood on the heel's part only, as it is where the shard pierced the slipper, which means the other blood must be the victim's, and is therefore on Senba's left sock.<br /> <br /> Other evidence are the blood which probably spurted on Senba's slippers while he was bludgeoning Hiyama, as he didn't want to leave footprints in the room and thence kept his slippers, and which also spurted on Senba's naked body. Though he washed it, luminol testing will find it all the same. Senba confesses to having spent much time washing the enormous amount of &quot;that demon's blood&quot; which had spurted on his body, more than he had expected. Senba killed Hiyama due to him swindling and stealing Senba's son's land for profit. Senba was at the hospital when his son got swindled by Hiyama, due to the latter paying henchmen in a car to collide with Senba. Senba ordered Hiyama to own up to it before dying, and Hiyama confessed to being responsible for it, swearing he would pay for Senba's hospital fees if he spared his life. When discharged from the hospital, Senba was shocked to see the demolisher's huge metal ball razing his dagashi shop to the ground, that shop which had been in his family for generations, which is why he decided to crush Hiyama's head with a metal ball as well. He says he can't lie any longer in front of a child, especially being himself a toys' store owner, used to making children smile.<br /> <br /> Okiya explains to Megure that the clenched scissors are Hiyama's dying message : he had hid in the bathroom to take a toothbrush glass and put it under the water, allowing for a chemical reaction that enabled him to quickly cut into the glass the letters corresponding to his murderer's name. They meet Kokuri Sanpei, Touto TV Director, who accompanies them to the hotel room of Hotta Gaito, only to find no one answering it. Sanpei checks the mail, and realizes that Hotta had send one an hour ago to him, saying his life is threatened. He calls the bellboy to open the door, and apparently gets a call from a wrong number. Upon opening the door, they hear a glassware shatter on the floor. Hotta is found lying on the bed, stabbed to death. Kogoro spots a blackish shadow vanishing in the veranda. Thinking that it must have entered the adjoining room, they go and knock on its door, only to see Masumi Sera staying there.<br /> <br /> === File 952 - In the Suspicious Next Room ===<br /> Kogoro tells Masumi that the culprit fled into her room, to which she denies and says there is no one inside besides herself, hiding the presence of the 'sister from outside the domain' (Mary Sera) . Masumi and Mary show hint of recognition at the name of Haneda Kouji, when Kogoro tells her the case details.<br /> <br /> When Sera allows them to enter, Conan rushes to the veranda, but finds no one. He observes that Sanpei's car is parked right underneath that veranda and is a posh car, having retractable roof. Conan takes a picture of it, as well as underneath the veranda, where Mary is hiding. After being called inside, he unknowingly drops his bow-tie which is later picked up by Mary.<br /> <br /> Megure thinks the glasses were shattered, because of the vibration of the repair works starting sharp at nine, when Kogoro entered the room. Takagi simulates the scene with smartphones by banging the table with his fist but is unsuccessful in dropping all of them. But he realizes that a salt like substance is spread on the table.<br /> <br /> Megure notices that the room is hot and also the heater is on. But the bedroom is cold because of the open window. Conan and Masumi check above the veranda door, and find the surface sticky. Sonoko also points out that the 'ka' in Asaka was replaced by 'ca'. Scotch's right hand was smeared in blood, but not the thumb and the palm. Thus Amuro concludes that Scotch committed suicide, but Akai made it look like he shot him dead. One end of the rope is knotted into rings, and the resulting big ring is placed in the arm-rest of the seat about 2 meters away from the stage. Next, the non-ring part is passed through so that it gets caught in the inner part of the arm-rest. Once again a ring is made of the remaining rope and is placed on a arm-rest of a seat about 4 meters away. Again the rope is made into a ring, this time it is placed on a seat 8 meters away in the opposite direction. Then a small ring among the knots along the length of the rope is pulled and the tied object on the stage is raised easily. This is the pulley principle in action. Enjou used this trick to raise Hado's hanging body, so as to make it look like an impossible crime.<br /> <br /> Akai recalls the day of Scotch's death. Scotch snatches Akai's gun to shoot himself, but Akai reassures him that he'll let him escape. But then, upon seeing that someone is about to come, Scotch shoots himself. Heiji and Conan run after him while the others go and fetch water to put out the fire. The two detectives find nothing at all, except the sign with huge bite marks on it.
