The movie is set on a state-of-the art Aegis vessel "Hotaka" with the full cooperation of Japan's real-life Ministry of Defense and Maritime Self-Defense Force. The corpse of a Self-Defense Force member has been found — minus the left arm — and a spy has infiltrated the Aegis vessel. The heroine Ran is put in jeopardy, and Conan is forced to stand up against the dangerous Spy "X."

An unknown child of middle-school age who appears to be a girl with light hair was shown hiding in Masumi Sera's room. The child's eyes have a remarkable resemblance to those of Shuichi Akai and Masumi Sera.

Appearance
The child appears to be a female of middle school age (12-15) with light colored, curly, neck length hair. The child has eyes similar to those of Masumi Sera and Shuichi Akai. In her appearance in 877, she was shown wearing a high-neck pleated top, hoodie jacket, and hat.

Plot overview
A child who appears to be a young girl first appeared on the call screen of Masumi's cellphone in Chapter 875. Later, when Ran, Sonoko, and Conan visit Masumi's apartment she is shown opening Masumi's door as Conan, Sera, Sonoko, and Ran rush to investigate a crime. It is implied the child was hiding in Masumi's bedroom while the other three were in the dining area because Masumi asks Conan not to enter her bedroom. The child later goes downstairs to the scene of the crime where she is seen by Conan.

Identity
The child's relationship to Masumi Sera is unknown. Sera testifies that she has two older brothers: Shuichi Akai and an unknown middle brother living in Japan. She says her father is dead, and her mother lives overseas America. Masumi says she doesn't doesn't have any more relatives close enough to depend on. She is currently being financially supported by a friend of her father's. If Masumi has told the truth, that leaves relatively few options for the child's identity assuming the child is related by blood somehow to Masumi.

Fan speculation
Resolution
<spoiler>
The culprit is Jouhei Hagawa. Hikaru Hinohara was actually Hakuya's daughter due to the will and DNA report found in his room. The tunnel that he was escaping in was made for Hikaru. Hakuya bought clothes as gifts to Hikaru because he wants to find out her body size to see how wide to make the tunnel. He wanted Hikaru to do the serial murder plan that he made for her. All the tricks done was he was to tell her when she was at the foreign torture in the morning but Jouhei intercepted the message on her phone. Foreseeing that he'd get back together with Mina and he did the plan and try to get the money that way. Hakuya committed suicide to make the tricks work. Along with the plan there is his cellphone, the keys the freezer and the switch to blow up the tunnel. The motive was avenge Youko whose "accidental" death was actually plotted by Jouhei, Shimizu, Kamiyo and Asanobu. Since Hakuya was a doctor he must've drugged Shimizu with something to thin out her blood and drew it out from artery at her neck with a catheter. Jouhei snuck over to he hding space underneath the coffin and retreived the head using a secret passage.
Resolution
<spoiler>
The motive was avenge Youko whose accidental was actually plotted by Jouhei, Shimizu, Kamiyo and Asanobu. Since Hakuya was a doctor he must've drugged Shimizu with something to thin out her blood and drew it out from artery at her neck with a catheter. Jouhei snuck over to he hding space underneath the coffin and retreived the head using a secret passage.
