== Relationship analysis ==

[[Kazunobu Chiba]] and [[Naeko Miike]] were childhood friends and attended Teitan Elementary together where they both joined the school broadcasting committee (although Naeko only joined because Chiba did). When Naeko was to move away, Chiba wrote down his feelings in a love letter. Naeko wrote her response on the side of a VHS in the committee storage room, hoping Chiba's sweating habit would cause the message "I like you, too" to show up on his hands after grabbing the tape. Unfortunately, Chiba couldn't find the right tape and never got the message.

On the day of his elementary school reunion, Chiba returned to the school and searched for the tape again. With the help of Conan and the [[Detective Boys]], he finally finds the message and heads for the reunion. Unfortunately Naeko doesn't show, and he hears from a former classmate that she said she is "now with the one she loved". Depressed, Chiba immediately leaves and finds a lady traffic cop giving him a ticket. When the officer offers to forget about the ticket since he is a fellow officer, Chiba scolds her for offering to ignore his illegal parking. Chiba leaves with the ticket, but then wonders how the girl knew he was a detective. The officer turns out to be Naeko, who has just been transferred to the police headquarters in Tokyo (working under Yumi) and looks forward to working with the one she loves.

After some time, they met again during a case involving threats that were placed in cars. They forced to investigate the cases together by Detective Boys. Unfortunately, Chiba doesn't recognize who Naeko really is. Their relationship began to improve when Naeko tried to contact Chiba to rescue her when she gets kidnapped. Thanks to the Conan's help, Chiba managed to rescue Naeko and arrest the culprit. However, Naeko was injured while protecting Chiba, forcing Chiba to carry her to the hospital. On the way, Chiba worried about Naeko's bleeding, he tried to cross the red light, but Naeko managed to convince him from breaking the rules; using the same words that Chiba told her in the past. Chiba finally manages to recognize Naeko after hearing those words as his love interest. The two walk towards the hospital, while blushing at the same time.

* Naeko makes her second appearence during a case involving threats that were placed in cars along with Yumi. Ironically, one of the victims happens to be Chiba himself. Naeko hides behind Yumi and continues to blush in front of him.
* However, Chiba remains oblivious to the fact that she is his childhood first love. She is forced into investigating the car cases with Chiba as Ayumi's, Mitsuhiko's and Genta's plan to get them to confess their love to each other.
* Soon after, a crash occurs and they find a man on the floor with another threat in the person's car. While everybody is investigating the current act of vandalism, Naeko helps out by giving information on the other cases.
* Meanwhile, Ayumi, Mitsuhiko and Genta continue to get Chiba to realize who Naeko really is, but he gets distracted by Conan, who keeps finding more evidence and Yumi who won't allow Chiba to steal her latest friend from her. Chiba comes close to finding out when a gust of wind blows Naeko's hat off, but is interrupted. Naeko feels like he doesn't remember her at all and calls him a dummy.
* Naeko continues to help with the investigation and they are able to find the culprit. Soon after Naeko takes Chiba home when Chiba remembers that he's seen her before. Naeko, thinking that he realizes she's his first love, is about to say that Chiba is correct when he says that it was from the time where she gave him a parking ticket. Naeko becomes embarrassed that she assumed wrong, but Chiba reveals to himself that he has a feeling who Naeko really is.

Naeko's childhood best friend, [[Sakurako|Sakurako Yonehara]] found a corpse in the house she's working at as a housemaid. She calls Naeko who was on patrol with Yumi at that time and they came over while waiting for the Division 1 officers to come. While investigating the evidences of the case, Chiba recognizes Sakurako but still failed to realize Naeko's existence.

* Naeko is the one who sent the package containing reports about the consequences of obesity to Chiba, and she plans to send him a tape with steps to follow an 8-hour diet. She blushes and smiles as she thinks about it. Although unaware of who sent that package, he finds the package extremely helpful, as he is enjoying losing weight.
* When Naeko saw Kazunobu become a lot skinnier, she blushed and smiled without any policewoman noticing. However, when the policewomen start showing some interest in Chiba, Naeko feels relieved once his body size is back to normal again because they are not interested in him anymore.

* While looking for a suitable partner for his next stakeout, Yumi suggested Naeko for Chiba, however, the latter told her it would look like an inspector with a middle school girl, much to Naeko's embarrasment; even tough she is the same age as him.
*Naeko gets kidnapped by the culprit, Naeko tried to contact Chiba so he could come to rescue her, unfortunately , her phone was taken away by the culprit.
* Chiba managed to rescue Naeko and arrest the culprit, however, Naeko was injured in her right leg while protecting Chiba from a bowgun arrow, which forced Chiba to carry her to the hospital on his back.
* While going to the hospital, Chiba came across a red light with no one around. Worried about Naeko's bleeding, Chiba tried to cross the red light, but Naeko managed to convince him from breaking the rules; using the same words that Chiba told her in the past.
* Chiba finally manages to recognise Naeko after hearing those words as his love interest, Naeko responded simply by giving him a hug and telling him that he took too much time to remember her.

Naeko stated with annoyance how Chiba laughed and made fun of her when she put the cream stew on top of the rice. Chiba said that anyone normally doesn't put it on top of the rice because it is not curry, to which Naeko responded that there is no difference when it is in Chiba's stomach. Yumi, meanwhile, was annoyed by their love dovey act.

[[File:KISS.jpg|thumb|250px|Yumi and Shukichi kissed just before a shogi match]] Shukichi and Yumi met for the first time while she was still in college, on a train where he overslept and rested his head on Yumi's shoulder, waiting for the stop. But Yumi waited and missed her stop just to wake Shukichi up for his own as shown in chapter 900. After this encounter, they met again and began dating ever since. But in the end they broke up because he was immature and gave her a letter containing a marriage registration, telling Yumi not to open it until he won all seven shogi titles. Stressed because she couldn't open the letter until he won them, Yumi decided to break up with him.

After some time, they met again in Chateau Beika Condo, where Shukichi currently lives. Their relationship began to improve when Shukichi rescued Yumi from a kidnapper thanks to the Detective Boys's help, and when Yumi kissed Shukichi as a good luck charm for the "Meijin" match. But Yumi was unaware of Shukichi being a famous shogi player for a long time until she saw Shukichi on television and figured it out. After realizing that meijins can make 100,000,000 yen in salary, she desperately tries to reclaim an envelope he left for her. Eventually, Yumi manages to find the envelope, however, Shukichi lost the Osho match, making the envelope that contains the marriage registration nullified. Yumi rips the letter, but encourages Shukichi to keep following his original plan and to never lose to anyone, calling him "Bald headed Rat", making the latter blush.

While patrolling with Yumi, Naeko received a call from her friend [[Sakurako]] telling a dead body found in a house she's working at. They rushed to the scene to find out that the neighbor next door is Shukichi, Yumi's ex-boyfriend. He is considered one of the suspects because he knows the code to the mail box where a spare keys is kept. Shukichi overjoyed at seeing Yumi again, while Yumi is feeling awkward and keeps insisting on calling him ''ex''-boyfriend.

Yumi is kidnapped when Shukichi heads his way to his shogi match for the title of Meijin at Tokiwa Hot Springs. Shukichi left in the middle of his match and took a car ride to Tokyo in order to save Yumi.
After rescuing Yumi, Shukichi heads back to finish the match, but suddenly he noticed that Yumi's photo which he carries everywhere as his "good luck charm" is missing. Yumi gives Shukichi a kiss as the good luck charm, and says "it's more effective than a photo". He returns to Yamanashi in time to win his 7th shogi title.

A hostess was murdered in front of her house by an unknown assailant. The crime was discovered by Yumi and Naeko who saw the suspect spinning a hose ritualistically. Unfortunately, Shukichi had also been at the restaurant and left just before the three suspects arrived. Yumi confesses that she ran into him that night but didn't mention it because she didn't want him involved.

While searching for clues in a photo to help aid the investigation, Yumi gets a call from an unknown number which turns out to be Shukichi. He had been frantically and repeatedly calling every 10 minutes to express his concern for her safety due to the killer seemingly only targeting policewomen to the point Yumi blocked his number. She questioned whose phone he was using, to which Shukichi admits it belongs to his senior and he is at the shogi hall for an interview, showing he is more open about discussing his shogi career with her. Yumi urges him to go home quickly, and he tells her to do the same, while in the process revealing she'd spent the night at his place that night, hinting that their relationship may be on a sexual level. Later on, Shukichi sends a text message to his older brother, Akai, begging him to protect Yumi.

Yumi suspecting Shukichi of having an affair, she decided to tail him. Eventually, it is revealed that Shukichi was holding a Shogi practice session with younger Shogi players. Also, Shukichi wants to introduce Yumi to his mother, [[Mary]], but is unable to contact her. Yumi also mentions that she and Shukichi have been living together.
