Before she began dating [[Makoto Kyogoku|Makoto]], Sonoko displayed the typical girl her age, acting very boy-crazy, and often mostly thinking about trying to snag the "perfect boy." She would often act sad because she couldn't get a boyfriend, using all necessary means to try and get one. Rena's friend [[Yoko Okino|Yoko]] decided to call in [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]], who came of course in [[Ran Mouri|Ran's]] and [[Conan Edogawa|Conan's]] company. In order to track down the culprit, Conan pasted a bug next to her door. Eventually, the stalker turned out to be a young boy. The reason for his leaving pills was that his late mother ostensibly resembled Hidemi, and in order to see her more regularly on TV, he had deposited the pills so she could have more restful sleeps. Facing these facts, Rena gently encouraged the boy to get over his mother's death and start his own life now. Shortly after Conan and the others left, Rena also departed, but in the process Conan's bug fell off and accidentally got stuck to the sole of her shoe. Right afterwards, to Conan's immense shock, Rena made a call to no other than [[Gin]], who directed her to the attempted assassination of a popular politician; under the guise of a TV interview, Rena was to guide him to a place where he could be easily dispatched.

Shortly after these events, a clumsy young man named [[Eisuke Hondou]] moved into the neighborhood and decided to tag along with Kogoro. His suspicious behavior and his astonishing physical similarity to Rena lead Conan to believe that he was somehow in cahoots with her. In time it turned out that he was in fact Rena's/Hidemi's younger brother, who had been looking for her after she had inexplicably disappeared. She was in fact an agent of the CIA who had taken [[Ethan Hondou|her father's place]] as a mole in the Organization following a blunder on her part, which had forced her father to sacrifice himself to save his daughter and maintain her cover.

Following this revelation, Hidemi rejoined the Black Organization with the help of Conan and [[Shuichi Akai|Shuichi]], but as a test to regain the [[Anokata]]'s trust, she had to kill Akai (it is strongly implied that Akai either managed to escape or his execution was set up). After having regained her standing in the Organization, she continues to feed information to both the FBI and the CIA, including that an agent named [[Bourbon]] had been sent to track down a renegade member. However, ever since her recovery, Gin has been keeping a sharp eye on her, especially when Akai appeared to have resurfaced unexpectedly.<ref>Manga Chapter 701: Hint of Red and 13</ref> However, so far Hidemi has - with a good portion of luck, fast-talking and circumstances - avoided giving herself away.

Shortly after these events, a clumsy young man named [[Eisuke Hondou]] moved into the neighborhood and decided to tag along with Kogoro. His suspicious behavior and his astonishing physical similarity to Rena lead Conan to believe that he was somehow in cahoots with her. In time it turned out that he was in fact Rena's/Hidemi's younger brother, who had been looking for her after she had inexplicably disappeared. She was in fact an agent of the CIA who had taken [[Ethan Hondou|her father's place]] as a mole in the Organization following a blunder on her part, which had forced her father to sacrifice himself to save his daughter and maintain her cover.

Following this revelation, Hidemi rejoined the Black Organization with the help of Conan and [[Shuichi Akai|Shuichi]], but as a test to regain the [[Anokata]]'s trust, she had to kill Akai (it is strongly implied that Akai either managed to escape or his execution was set up). After having regained her standing in the Organization, she continues to feed information to both the FBI and the CIA, including that an agent named [[Bourbon]] had been sent to track down a renegade member. There are however occasions where she appears to be so sure that Shinichi and Conan are one and the same, such incidents include once when Ran finds Conan asleep on the sofa, she takes off his glasses while he's asleep and notices the huge reseamblance he has to Shinichi as a child, later she confronts him and feels so certain that Conan is Shinichi as it explained his splitting reseamblance to Shinichi when he was younger, possessing Shinichi's great powers of deduction, and even Shinichi's lack of any musical knowledge. However Shinichi's mother unexpectatly shows up and covers for him by explaining that Conan's resembalance to Shinichi when he was younger, because that they're distant relatives and Conan possesing Shinichi's deductive ability is a result of Shinichi teaching Conan.
At another time she is also certain her reasoning was correct, as Conan had been critically injured and required a blood donation, Ran donated her blood but somehow knew his blood type without being told revealing that she knew that Conan was actually Shinichi. So with the help of [[Ai Haibara]] he manages to fool Ran by allowing Shinichi to appear before her while Conan was present (who was really Ai Haibara in disguise).

Right after sending the message, Conan's phone starts vibrating. Ran, quite perplexed by the perfect timing, checks his phone only to discover a new email (she hasn't seen the content yet). At that moment, Conan enters the room, and seeing his phone in Ran's hands, rushes towards it while shouting and grabs it back asking: "''Did you look?''". He quickly understands that Ran's email may have risen doubts about his identity.<ref name=episode398>[[The Weird Family's Commission|Episode 398-399: The Weird Family's Commission]]</ref>
Following this event, Ran first believes that Shinichi often contacts Conan without her knowing, which would in some way explain how he always seems to help out on cases. Later on, after seeing Conan give an important clue to the investigation team without making use of his cell phone (to eventually contact Shinichi like she was suspecting), she starts to believe that Conan is actually Shinichi thinking that past occurrences of both being present at the same time was just a trick he used to fool her.<ref name=episode398/>

At the end of the day, Ran is able to retrieve Conan's phone. Late at night, after waiting for everybody to go to bed, she tries to get past the phone's PIN code to check whether her email is there or not. This, to her, would be undeniable proof that Conan is indeed Shinichi. After finally guessing the number equivalent of "Sherlock" to be the PIN code, she's surprised not to see her email there. She instantly tries a few times to resend another email but nothing comes up on Conan's phone. That's when Shinichi calls her complaining about the numerous emails she's been sending. Conan, then knocks at the door and claims back his phone saying that he didn't want people looking inside because of messages he received from a girl he likes. It is later showed that Conan actually exchanged his phone with Agasa's (which are both of the same model) and used his phone upstairs to call Ran, while she was experimenting with the Professor's phone, to create this whole alibi. Shinichi then tells Ran that she now knows his phone number. And Ran, pleased with the situation, clears her mind out of all suspicions she had about Conan's identity<ref>[[Ran's Suspicions|Episode 400: Ran's Suspicions]]</ref> - at least, consciously.

Although various characters, including [[Heiji Hattori]], have told him to just admit everything to her, for the sake of her heart, he realizes he cannot tell her, because he does not want to put her in danger against the Black Organization, as he considers her life more important than his. People also look at them as a couple by how they act and how they talk about each other. When asked to Ran though, she does say that Shinichi is her boyfriend (this causes him/conan to blush slightly but never really says anything about it).

Ran remains close to both her parents even though they have been separated for ten years. Her constant hope is that they finally get together again, and on occasion she even plays (re-)matchmaker by arranging not-so-accidental meetings between them, though a reunion, while possible, is so far constantly hampered by mutual stubborness and the occasional criminal incident taking place in the immediate vicinity.

=== Ai Haibara ===

There are instances where Haibara will caution Conan from actions that involve Ran, though it's assumed this is due merely to the fact that she wants to keep her identity hidden. At one point, she was very cold and distant towards Ran, just like she was to most other people. Ran believed that it was because that Haibara had hated her.<ref name=Net>[[The Mystery in the Net|Episode 246-247: The Mystery in the Net]]</ref> However, later that day, Haibara finally properly introduced herself to Ran, and they slowly became friends. Haibara considers Ran a spitting image her older sister, Akemi Miyano, so she takes special interest in protecting her. In the Blind spot in the Karaoke Box, Eisuke has shown some interest in Ran. He had admitted to Conan that he loved Ran and claimed that he would take Ran to America and live happily ever after there, and thinks if he could ask for Shinichi's permission. But Conan, without hesitating, said no in a very serious expression, which the look on Conan's face revealed his true identity to Eisuke.

Ran is a master in karate and has won many karate tournaments; she holds the title of Regional Champion for her age group. In fact, she is very strong to the extent that she can break a stone with ease. In the ninth movie, ''[[Strategy Above the Depths]]'', Conan states that Ran has an unusual amount of stamina.<ref name=Depths>[[Strategy Above the Depths|Movie 9: Strategy Above the Depths]]</ref>

In time, Ran comes to suspect that Conan is actually Shinichi despite what her common sense would say, but he always manages to trick her and "prove" her wrong. There are however occasions where she appears to be so sure that Shinichi and Conan are one and the same, such incidents include once when Ran finds Conan asleep on the sofa, she takes off his glasses while he's asleep and notices the huge reseamblance he has to Shinichi as a child, later she confronts him and feels so certain that Conan is Shinichi as it explained his splitting reseamblance to Shinichi when he was younger, possessing Shinichi's great powers of deduction, and even Shinichi's lack of any musical knowledge. However Shinichi's mother unexpectatly shows up and covers for him by explaining that Conan's resembalance to Shinichi when he was younger, because that they're distant relatives and Conan possesing Shinichi's deductive ability is a result of Shinichi teaching Conan.
At another time she is also certain her reasoning was correct, as Conan had been critically injured and required a blood donation, Ran donated her blood but somehow knew his blood type without being told revealing that she knew that Conan was actually Shinichi. So with the help of [[Ai Haibara]] he manages to fool Ran by allowing Shinichi to appear before her while Conan was present (who was really Ai Haibara in disguise).

==== The cell phone incident ====

[[File:Ran_suspecting_Conan.jpg|thumb|left|200px|Ran suspecting Conan's identity]] Conan once forgets his cell phone on the couch and Ran, in the room at the time, remembers to send an email to Shinichi to let him know that she's going with her father on a case and that his presence would be most welcome as Kogoro could use the help. Right after sending the message, Conan's phone starts vibrating. Ran, quite perplexed by the perfect timing, checks his phone only to discover a new email (she hasn't seen the content yet). At that moment, Conan enters the room, and seeing his phone in Ran's hands, rushes towards it while shouting and grabs it back asking: "''Did you look?''". He quickly understands that Ran's email may have risen doubts about his identity.<ref name=episode398>[[The Weird Family's Commission|Episode 398-399: The Weird Family's Commission]]</ref>
Following this event, Ran first believes that Shinichi often contacts Conan without her knowing, which would in some way explain how he always seems to help out on cases. Later on, after seeing Conan give an important clue to the investigation team without making use of his cell phone (to eventually contact Shinichi like she was suspecting), she starts to believe that Conan is actually Shinichi thinking that past occurrences of both being present at the same time was just a trick he used to fool her.<ref name=episode398/>

At the end of the day, Ran is able to retrieve Conan's phone. Late at night, after waiting for everybody to go to bed, she tries to get past the phone's PIN code to check whether her email is there or not. This, to her, would be undeniable proof that Conan is indeed Shinichi. After finally guessing the number equivalent of "Sherlock" to be the PIN code, she's surprised not to see her email there. She instantly tries a few times to resend another email but nothing comes up on Conan's phone. That's when Shinichi calls her complaining about the numerous emails she's been sending. Conan, then knocks at the door and claims back his phone saying that he didn't want people looking inside because of messages he received from a girl he likes. It is later showed that Conan actually exchanged his phone with Agasa's (which are both of the same model) and used his phone upstairs to call Ran, while she was experimenting with the Professor's phone, to create this whole alibi. Shinichi then tells Ran that she now knows his phone number. And Ran, pleased with the situation, clears her mind out of all suspicions she had about Conan's identity<ref>[[Ran's Suspicions|Episode 400: Ran's Suspicions]]</ref> - at least, consciously.

=== Situation ===
Ran suspected that Conan and Shinichi are the same person. She took Conan's phone secretly and tries to find out if the message sent to Shinichi will recieved by Conan's phone. Somehow, she's having trouble to unlock the PIN number the whole night.
Ran turns on Conan's cellphone only to find out there is a four digit lock. She reminisces about the time Shinichi was forming words through the Hiragana and numbers found on the license plates. Shinichi witnesses a car with an illegal license plate as cars are not allowed to use the Hiragana "shi" or "he" and reports this to the police. The police capture the criminals before they robbed a bank. Back in the present time, Ran uses the word Sherlock which are the numbers 4869 and unlocks Conan's phone. Ran suspects Conan deleted her messages and resents the mail only to receive a phone call from an irritated Shinichi. Conan appears and asks for his phone and returns to his room where it is revealed that he used a prerecorded message to call Ran in the event of her getting close to finding his secret. Conan then gives Ran his phone number and accepts the dangers that would come by doing so.

When Ran has cracked the code on the phone of Conan, she was soon to find out if her mail has she send to [[Shinichi]]
also received by Conan and after that she finds out that the mail was missing or not found and when she try to send the email to Shinichi's number and suddenly, Ran's phone have rang and top of that she heard Shinichi's voice and Conan hurriedly came down to get his phone in order to cut Ran's Suspicions.

== Background ==
Eisuke Hondo first appeared soon after one of [[Conan Edogawa|Conan's]] confrontations with the [[Black Organization]], in which it was revealed that popular newscaster [[Hidemi Hondou|Rena Mizunashi]] was one of their members. He enlisted into Teitan High School and quickly made friends with [[Ran Mouri]] and [[Sonoko Suzuki]], who noticed the striking similarity to Mizunashi.

Some time later, Eisuke visited [[Kogoro Mouri|Ran's father]] in his office, where he also ran into Conan. After expressing a vivid interest in Mouri's work, he was invited by Ran to come by anytime, much to the displeasure of Conan, who had become suspicious of Eisuke. This suspicion was confirmed by the fact that in subsequent cases Eisuke made several blunders which would 'incidentally' contribute to the solution of the relevant case.

In time, Conan found out that Eisuke was indeed related to Rena Mizunashi. He had come to Tokyo looking for clues of his sister's whereabouts, sparked by him seeing her working as a newscaster by happenstance. He learned the truth from Conan, Hidemi and [[Shuichi Akai]] - that his sister, as well as [[Ethan Hondou|his late father]], were working for the CIA against the Black Organization. Following this revelation, he was offered a place in the Witness Protection Program, which he refused, though he decided to follow in his family's footsteps by joining the CIA one day. Alone with Conan, he also confessed that he had fallen in love with Ran and wished to take her with him to America. When Conan protested, Eisuke laughed out loud, stating that Conan's reaction was the final confirmation he had needed: that Conan was really [[Shinichi Kudo]], and that in fact he was responsible for the 'Sleeping Kogoro's' success. With this revelation, he asked Conan/Shinichi to take good care of Ran in his stead, thus promising to keep his secret.And He confessed some feelings to Ran to Conan but Conan didn't allowed that and in that way he finds out that Shinichi Kudo and [[Conan Edogawa]] is just the same person.

== Personality ==
Eisuke is a person with extremely bad luck. He's constantly bumping into or falling over something. However, his clumsiness belie a sharp intellect and keen talent for observation: With only few clues to work with, he was able to track down his vanished sister to the Haido Central Hospital, where the FBI was keeping her under guard, and even penetrate the facility to confront Rena Mizunashi - who really was his sister [[Hidemi Hondou|Hidemi]] - before he was discovered by Conan. He figured out that Shinichi and Conan were the same person before even meeting Conan and managed to force to the truth out of him later.

As a person, Eisuke is usually quite jovial and friendly, though very emotional at times; in stressful situations he often lets his feelings get the better of him.
